Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge - بودابست

Stayed in Sofitel Budapest end of April 2012 with a group of 9 people. At first we had email conversation to ask them if they could change the dates we booked with hotels.com since Malev airlines went bankrupted.They were very understanding which was really polite of them since the rate we booked was non-refundable. When we finally arrived though the reception guy was rude.He said that our rooms were not ready (at 15:00!!!). When I asked why he told me that they have flexible check out time! And I ask you: Did you ever hear a hotel having flexible check out time at the time they are expecting arrivals??? I never did! At check out time they announce that you have to pay a little amount of 8 euro I think as city tax (which was no problem), which was another think I didn't hear before in all the countries I visited. (or maybe it was included in the price and didn't know it)-Anyhow, it would be good to know in the beginning. The location of the hotel is fantastic with the most perfect view of the Chain Bridge! The rooms were lovely but if you book a triple room, the third bed will be the unfolded sofa which is not comfortable. There is a 24 hour grocery shop behind the hotel if you need anything. In general we had a really nice time in Budapest and I would recommend Sofitel to other travellers especially for the location!

Pros: -Great location (our room had view of Chain Bridge) -Overall clean, but our shower had mold in it -Staff was responsive and friendly -Free wifi!! -Complimentary bottle of water was a nice addition Cons: -We checked in at 4:30pm but our room was not ready and had to wait another 30min. This was annoying since we had a long day and just wanted to get to our hotel and rest. -Mold in shower Would recommend overall; you can't beat the location!

This hotel was fabulous- great friendly and helpful staff and in the right location!

We had very nice stay in your Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge Hotel ! I was able to spend good time of the most comfortable very nice view. I want to stay at same room number 523 again at the next opportunity. Many thanks!

An excellent hotel , very cordial and friendly staff, superbly located at the heart of Budapest. My wife and I ( our very first visit to Budapest) were very much at home . All our needs were attended to in a timely manner by the reception staff. The facilities are very refreshing from the Spa/Swimming pool to the restaurants available at the hotel. The preparation and service were exemplary. I would recommend this Hotel in confidence to anyone. Cheers - keep up the good work.

I had a wonderful time staying at the Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge hotel. The staff was amazing - very helpful in navigating through my first visit to Budapest. The location of the hotel is terrific - very convenient to all the major sights. My room as also great - great view and great accommodations. The only minor issue was there was no bathroom electrical plug so no way to use hair tools like flat irons. But, this was minor in the scheme of things.

This is a very nice hotel in a great location. Booked a room with a view of the palace, Danube, and Chain Bridge and it did not dissapoint. The view was amazing. The bed and pillows were the most comfortable! Paris Budapest restaurant and patio was very good. Downsides though: front desk staff were very snobby with superioity complex. The room was suppose to be available for check at 2:00 p.m. and after a very long day of travelling they would not let us check in until almost 3:00 p.m., no explanation and no apology. Also, as others have said in their reviews even though all the taxes are prepaid inthe hotels.com booking they try to charge you extra taxes when you go to check out. I would not sign for these charges and showed them my receipt which indicated taxes were included. they did not care and did not want to return my credit card. It was a big hassle when you need to check out and grab a train. They don't care, agrue with you, treat you as second class because you did not book with them directly. I now will have to fight these charges with my credit card company; what a way to ruin what was otherwise s splendid hotel and a splendid vacation. Toronto, Canada

From the city map you cannot tell the PERFECT location of this hotel. The views from our room were incredible day and night: the Chain Bridge, the Danube and the castle on the Buda side. Everything you want to see is in walking distance. Would choose it again!

Our stay at the Sofitel Budapest was superb. The hotel is total modern 5 Star quality from the finishes to the location overlooking the Chain Bridge to the elegant appointments of the room. Superb comfortable bed and a view of the city at night. Excellent hotel.

Centrally located, the staff was excellant and always ready to assist. However, the breakfast brunch was nearly $40 for each person. - we ate out for breakfast.

What a great hotel. Fabulous location and wonderful service. We really enjoyed our stay. By the way in room internet (free wi-fi) is now included. Liked the fitness center too.

Wonderful hotel, staff and location. Spectacular view of the Danube and the Chain Bridge, especially at sunset. Very comfortable beds. Highly recommend. Would absolutely stay here again.

from the minute we checked in and were given a free upgrade to the penthouse with executive club privileges, we knew we were in for a special stay.... this is truly a five star hotel and we have been in hotels all over europe for many years..... the service was unparalleled, particularly from judith, troy and the concierges...the view from our room of the danube, the chain bridge and the castle should have been a tourist stop, as was the location, ...a perfect 5 night stay in one of the best!!!

The central location is perfect for all sightseeing. The staff took care of every need. We were very impressed and would stay there every time.

We had a beautiful room with a fantastic view of the Danube River and the Famous Chain Bridge. All of the services were excellent especially the consierge advice and booking.

I stay at Sofitel Chain Bridge a few times a year. Worth to elect for a luxury room with Danube view, just stunning views, and afternoon sun, eve sunsets. Excellent spa services, lovely pool, modern and effective gym, sauna, makes a nice leisure time. The staff are always friendly, the food wonderful, and the places to eat stylish, very contemporary. An elegant swish hotel to be on Business, but a wonderful relaxed and healthy space for some leisure time. Always consistent over the 4 yrs i have been.

For a Soffitel I was expecting a grand hotel, with 5 stars and on the banks of the Danube it should have offered so much more than a tastefully decorated lobby. I pushed the boat out for a deluxe room over looking the river, the room was deluxe, but in 1983. The furniture looked run down, the drapes were awfully bad taste, the mini bar range poor and expensive. The whole feel of the place led me to believe from the internet it was an enchanted forest, but once inside the forest had been left to fester. There are better hotels, don't let the website fool you on this one though!

Absolutely wonderful hotel. Very upscale, staff friendly, accommodating and attentive . Hotel location witin walking distance of Many attractions, restaurants (although I ate most of my meals at the hotel). The hotel's breakfast buffet was incredible and the food at the bar and restaurant was great. I was lucky to get a great promotional rate through Hotels.com

This is a really first classhotel in a great location. The staff are friendly and efficient. They arranged for the hotel taxi (Mercedes S Class) to collect me from my train. This is a good idea as a gaggle of unsavoury characters seem to control the taxi business at Keleti Station. As an A Club card holder I was upgraded to a corner suite on the top floor with stunning views of the Chain Bridge and the Danube. I also had acess to the Sofitel Club for breakfast and all day snacks. The staff here were very charming and helpful. You can check out in the lounge. I had two meals in the bar which were excellent with an extensive choice of French and Hungarian wines. Try the French 75 cocktail!

This hotel is in the heart of all the landamrks in Budapest, right on the Danube. this is probably the best area in the city. the room was excellent, as were the bed and the quality of the internet. definitely a great hotel for the price.

My wife, daughter & myself spent 3 days in the hotel over the New Year. Hotel was busy, but service & cleanlinless didn't suffer. very good common areas, room was large and high level of cleanliness. Hotel is extremely well positioned by the Chain Bridge and close to most of the shopping areas. Would certainly highly recommend it

Excellent location and nice hotel with stunning reception areas. Hotel bar and restaurant are very expensive. Overall the location of this hotel alone makes it worth visiting but don't forget there is city tax to pay on check out (it's only a couple of % but worth remembering)

Great Location & beautiful Lobby. We had a room with an amazing view of the river. The room, however, was dated and dingy. The carpet was old and stained, the walls had scuff marks all over & the towels were frayed. The shampoo, conditioner etc. was high quality but they did not give us any lotion. Breakfast was also extremely expensive. The rooms in the hotel need to be updated to make this a 4 star hotel.

When we checked out of the hotel, we were charged 5 days of city taxes even though we pre-paid everything to Hotel.ca and we showed them the email receipt indicating that all fees and taxes and payment paid in full, with nothing owing. The clerk insisted that the city taxes are different from the VAT (tax) and we had to pay before we could check out. We told him that if that is the case, we should have been told at booking. We travelled the world and stayed in many hotels and never had we encountered such nonsense. We had a flight to catch so we paid.

We were in Budapest to attend the wedding of friends and extended our stay to enjoy the city and do some sight seeing. The Sofitel Chain Bridge Hotel is in an excellent location for this. We reserved a luxury/superior room overlooking the river. Our room overlooked Budapest Castle and the Chain Bridge, and the view looked particularly well at night under the flood lights. The hotel is only a 5-10 min stroll from St Stephens Basillica. This area is pedestrianised and surrounded by a choice of restaurants. The decor in the hotel was very modern and our room was very comfortable, particularly the pillows! We were able to book a reduced rate for our room (3 nights for the price of 2) which we were very happy with. The only negative we found was dining in the hotel. The hotel has a fine dining french style restaurant, but the prices were prohibitive which meant we never dined there - particularly as there were so many nice restaurants in the area for a fraction of the price. Overall, a very comfortable hotel with excellent service in a great location for exploring the city.

I've stayed many times in 5 star hotels, and this for certain was not a 5 star hotel. Customer service was good, but the rooms were outdated and not nearly worth the price. All of the amenities were extremely overpriced and piecemeal. Whereas most 5 star hotels take care of their customers, this hotel expects an exorbitant fee for every service rendered (internet, breakfasts, premium television, etc.) so do not expect to relax without paying individually (and inconveniently) for each aspect of your stay. The hotel was centrally located, but there are other, cheaper and more up to date hotels closer to the main boulevards and tourist areas. Do not waste your money on this hotel, the extra dollars you pay above four star hotel will only buy you the opportunity to pay for additional services and comfort as they continually surprise you with each additional option.

Absolute dream stay we had here, the location, close to metre, tram and bus stations. The view from the room at night was picture perfect. The food was good, though pricey, but well worth paying, and efficiency in the different parts of the lounge and diningroom was good. The concierge was exceptional good, booked a lot of shows and excursions and all went well. One down side was the replacement of amenities in the rooms regarding coffee etc, and cups were not taken out or cleaned daily, notes of other rooms was left of work still to be cleaned in those rooms, smaal but annoying things.

Fantastic hotel with a perfect location. We had the room with a view over the Danube & the Chain Bridge- could not have asked for a better hotel. The city tax came as a surprise when we were checking out as we had not been told this at check out.

The hotel was in a perfect location, approximately a 3 minute walk to the Chain Bridge overlooking the Danube River and to the Old Town. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a small suite which was very spacious with a sitting room. The bathroom was very large with a separate tub and shower and appeared to be recently upgraded. The concierge was extremely helpful as were the staff at the front desk. Everyone spoke English which was very helpful to us. Would not hesitate to stay at this lovely hotel again.

Location-Location-Location! Close to everything in walking distance.
