We always gravitate towards north beach, so this location was just perfect. Tonga room right across the street was a plus w/o the fairmont hotel price tag. Absolutely loved the bed, pillows, and sheets. Bathroom was perfect for us- no complaints. We actually had booked for 2 nights & added a third minutes before check out!

Wonderful hotel on nearlly all levels, just a little isolated for walking convieniance. Totally dependant on taxi or cable car.

Great location, traditional grand hotel, excellent service. Very comfortable room, lovely views of the city, premium touches. Probably about time for some paint here and there, she is showing a bit of wear, but would still recommend. Drinks at the Top of the Mark a must for any visitor.

Prime, central location on both cablecar routes

Excellent overall but it is silly for the restaurant at the top of the restaurant not to serve drinks until after 2:30pm The people at this hotel, from the doormen to the cleaning staff are the most polite people I have met in a long time.

Beautiful view! Tough walk though to get to Union Square.

This hotel is close to the cab cable stop, buses, and within walking distance to Chinatown. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The restaurant is very expensive, so you may want to plan your meals elsewhere.

What a nice hotel, loved every minute, softest beds ever. Lovely lovely lovely

Absolutely fantastic stay. Beautiful hotel and wonderful staff. This is certainly one of my favorite hotels in the world! Will stay again! Perfect location. I can't say enough about how spectacular this hotel is!

Close to union square. Very nice place to stay. Will be back.

We had 3 main complaints about this hotel, which was otherwise fine: 1. Internet access costs $12.95 per 24 hour period, and that information is NOT made clear on the website. Also, that fee does not get you the fastest internet service, it's only an acceptable speed. 2. The toilets are SUPER loud! You can hear them flushing from rooms and floors away, which is not a good thing when you're trying to sleep. 3. This location is really a pain in the legs if you're planning to walk. There are no buses that come up to the top of Nob Hill; only the trolley comes up that way, and it costs $6 per person per ride. Prepare yourself for either some really sore calves or lots of money spent getting up and down the hill. Though the room was nice and the staff generally pretty helpful (though they wouldn't budge on the internet fees), we will likely not stay there again because of these 3 reasons.

Absolutely loved this hotel. Beautiful, excellent food, and service. Lovely view out our room windows. Very friendly staff. Best hotel in San Francicso! Will definitely stay at this hotel in the future.

Great hotel, great service and the feel of old San Francisco. Only problem is parking ($51), although most hotels have high parking fees in this city.

On the top of Nob Hill and just a short cable car ride to Fisherman's Wharf, our room had an unbeatable view of the city at 16 floors up. They rooms couldn't have been nicer and same with the hotel staff. It was a luxurious oasis in the city.

Excellent hotel. Great service. Highly recommended.

Nice hotel, but a little over priced for what it is. Great neighborhood, but the views outside our hotel room were not very good and this was with an upgrade.

Really liked staying here. The California Line cable car goes right in front of the hotel - straight down to the Ferry Building. The Bus line to the wharf or north beach is only about a block away (Catch it on Stockton.) Felt very elegant and upscale staying here....

The last time my husband stayed at the Mark Hopkins, he was a toddler. His mother won the desert portion of a national cooking competition and the prize was a weekend in San Francisco. Our experience this time was just as magical as my husband remembered it. The view was amazing. The room beautiful. I would love to do this for the holidays every year if I could. Thank you Mark Hopkins.

The hotel was perfect as always. The service staff was fantastic and we throrughly enjoyed our stay!

Great room and Rate for value. Huge rate for parking ($53.00), soo park at lot 1/2 block north on california street for much less $$

My room was as wonderful on the day I turned 50 as it was 17 years prior when my former spouse surprised me on my birthday with my first stay at the Mark. The view was fantastic and when the staff at Top of the Mark found out it was my birthday, they sang happy birthday and brought me tea cakes. The elegance of the hotel and courtesy of the staff is an experience in excellence.

We loved the location...walking distance to Union Square, China Town and North Beach. Also, Powell Cable Car at the corner. The staff was wonderful! Top of Mark breakfast was great! Only recommendation; beds were uncomfortable, need replacing & add extra pillows. Lovely hotel!

I love the Mark Hopkins. Have been going there for years for parties, meals, and music and dancing on top of San Francisco. On New Years Eve I decided to actually stay at the hotel for the first time. Honesty I was a bit disappointed. The rooms were quite small and very plain with few modern upgrades. Just your basic small hotel room with tub shower. Not much different from many other. Definitely not a 5 star hotel room. Next time I would save my money (or go somewhere where you get something for it) and just go to the hotel for the restaurant at the Top of the Mark, and forgo the high expense of the room.

This Hotel is as well run as when I first visited 45 years ago. It is not an "over the top" luxury hotel, but rather a throw back to the traditional, elegant hotels of previous generations. As you may guess, I am turned off by "over the top", conspicuous displays of unnecessary luxury. The baths are small, but the general ambience of the hotel is pure tradftional elegance. I love it, and I would recommned it as an awesome introduction to San Francisco for a family. It was for me 45 years ago with my father and remains special today to me. The Cable Car is right outside the door! If you like simpe elegance in a quiet ambience in the best location in San Francisco, this is for you!

We requested and were granted a room with a good view for New Year's fireworks. very nice. Otherwise all staff were very accommodating and responsive.
