We needed to catch an early flight and had booked a shuttle the day before. When we got to reception they told us that the shuttle driver had been delayed but they had a taxi ready and waiting for us. Excellent service!

Very comfortable and clean room; appeared to have been recently remodeled; great downtown location. We would stay there again.

We really liked the hotel, nice rooms, bathroom way too small. Short walk to many restaurants, but walk by many homeless on sidewalk.

Mad because my wife left her make up bag with jewelry in the hotel room and it was not found by the house keeper. Will never said there again

Nice place to stay if you plan on kicking it in SD for a couple days and dont want to spend too much on a room.

Room was not ready upon a 4pm checkin. Management made an excuse that that they were too busy to clean. no apologies. had to wait 2 hours for the room to be ready. it was poor planning on the management and bad service altogether. will not stay there again. not to mention the parking is another fee in their parking structure that does not fit anything bigger than a mini cooper!

Great Hotel near Gaslamp district, just a couple blocks walk. Staff is very friendly and helpful, including front desk and shuttle service. Room was very clean, nice flat screen TV and plenty of pillows too. I would recommend to anyone staying in the Downtown San Diego area.

i couldn't use internet. even complain to desk. Only two computer in lobby are usable. and wifi can be accesable only in the lobby. Hotel is not harmonize with the City, San Diego. Parking fee oops !

We stayed one night at this hotel. Everything was fine. The only negative thing was the traffic noise from the street, which was not too bad but a bit annoying.

The hotel was useful, safe and clean. It was a bit of an awkward climb to the gas-lamp district and one of their elevators was broken. However, it was functional and comfortable. The breakfast was fine.

This place only had one working elevator which took forever to use. The overall hotel felt a little scarey/dark

I booked a room with two beds, the hotel was over sold so they offered me a king suite. There was no matress in the pull out couch, the bathroom tile was pink and black from mold and the size was that of a shoe box. The fridge made a horrible noise all night, and the cafe they represent for dine in your room refused to tell me a menu and told me it was in a drawer in my room somewhere. I always pick HOLIDAY INN and have for 10 yrs....this one was the first to make me think twice.

The only thing is that they had only one elevator working for rooms, parking , lobby. So I was a long wait for you to get on the elevator

The hotel is located downtown and nearby to the Gaslamp district - excellent views of the skyline from the room and the outside patio! Great breakfast every morning and very friendly staff! Overall a very good choice!!!

Ok location, more than a few blocks from the harbour, but only a few blocks from downtown and gaslamp areas. Hotel is perfectly average and what you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express, nothing great and nothing bad. Offers free breakfast in morning which is tasty except the bad cheese omelettes.

My wife and I stayed for one night to catch a show at a local jazz club. The customer service at check-in was great! Our room was clean and comfortable and the free breakfast was an added bonus! Also a very convenient location, very close to stores, clubs, shopping; as well as beaches. Would stay again in the future!

Had to pay for hotel parking. Otherwise good. Handy for downtown and a nice pool. Lift being re-furbished. Slow.

My stay here was very satisfactory. Everything that I read about in the reviews was true. The pros- Close to Gas Lamp Quarter (approx. 1 mile away) took about 10 mins to walk there. Very convenient for my boyfriend and I. Close to Petco Park and Zoo. Free breakfast that was actually enjoyable and decent. Cons- The parking lot is very narrow. The elevators are insanely slow, but just take the stairs. There are only 3 floors. The bathroom is small, but clean. Overall it was a clean room with a great location for a very decent price. I would most definitely recommend staying here.

Two friends and I decided to do a last-minute overnight in San Diego. We found the hotel to be a great location being just a few blocks from the Gas Lamp quarter. The carpet was dirty, the TV was old (basic cable but no Vh1), the furniture was of low quality, the bathrooms were small, the towels were cheap, and the beds were lumpy. On the other hand, the hotel provided complimentary wi-fi and a so-so breakfast. It wasn't the Hyatt, but better than a Motel 6. Overall, the point was that we were in a location that was conveneint enough to paint the town red for one night.

My boyfriend and I went to San Diego to go to the Padres game. This location was perfect. We could walk nearly everywhere we wanted to go. Great for a one night stay.

Hotel staff was very nice. The warm cookies were appreciated. This is an older hotel with the age really showing. Hallway carpets are old with a generally musty smell. The bathrooms are extremely tiny with no counter space. There is a small ledge above toilet where toiletries could be placed if it were possible to close the lid to the toilet. The lid in my room was continuously open because it was lodged firmly under the ledge. This resulted in having to be very cautious not to place any items on the ledge because they could easily fall into toilet. For a female traveler, this was very inconvenient.

I was surprised to open my milk container served at Holiday Inn Express San Diego Downtown breakfast and find mouldy growth. I talked to the manager and showed her the evidence, and she was appologetic about the 'inconvenience' . I kept throwing up all day after consuming part of that milk. I took a picture of it when I noticed mouldy growth in the milk container. Besides our room was stinky. The carpet was dirty and sticky beyond imagination. If we stepped in those sicky spots our slippers would stick. I hadn't imagined we would pay for this kind of experience:-(

Pretty typical holiday inn express. Great breakfast! Eggs, sausage or bacon, pancakes, yogurt, cereals, breads, etc. every day. Their cinnamon buns are to die for! Good location downtown, easy to walk to the trolley stop and other locations downtown. They have a shuttle that will take you to airport, balboa park or cruise ship terminal area, but unfortunately it wasn't reliable. Several times we were told to get a cab instead and while they reimbursed us and gave us a cab company to call, we had to wait about 40min for a cab to come get us after a long and tiring day. Was not fun. There are some homeless folks around, but we didn't have any problems. It is on a big hill, but only lasts about one block. Pool is only 3 feet deep. Free cookies every night and open bar M-Th for beer and wine were nice touches.

Old hotel, great location though. Too pricey for the condition of the rooms. Great customer service generally, just a dismal over effect due to age

Everything was old. The elevator goes up when you press "down". It was not very clean, the bed was incredibly old and uncomfortable. TINY room and TINY bathroom. Our room's only windows had windows into the hallway. For what we paid...completely ridiculous. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Friendly and helpful staff, room ok, bathroom very small, breakfast ok, narrow garage, walking distance to Gaslamp quarter and Seaport Village, pool and part of the rooms overlooking Downtown, very close to Airport

The Good: - free cookies, lemonade, breakfast - super friendly staff - clean room The Bad: - view from my room (#251) was literally a wall) - on a steep hill, so walking isn't fun for everyone - bathroom was VERY small Overall, I didn't spend a ton of time in my room, but from what I did, I can tell you that it was just a hotel room. There wasn't anything special about it. There wasn't anything too terrible about it. If you can get it at a good price versus other hotels, I'd recommend it.

Staff were very helpful and accomodating.Free Shuttle from hotel to major tourist sites was convenient. (Shuttle comes every 30 minutes). Shuttle drivers Steve and Javier were friendly and informative. Free Breakfast was delicious and filling (pancakes, banana, coffee, tea, muffins, juice, yougurt, cereal, eggs, hot sausage). Front desk staff wonderfull (quickly brought any items we needed such as toilet paper and towels). Good location: 10-15 minutes from aiprot.

Excellent location, near downtown. WIFI internet is free in the room. We had to pay the hotel to park our car, 16 dollars.

I found the staff very helpful and pleasant. On check-in the I was personally greeted with a handshake. I felt quite welcome. The carpet in my room was worn and had a couple holes in it, but it was clean. Over all, I would say the room was much cleaner than most motels I've stayed in. The elvators are really slow and the stairs were not accessible. There are a couple really great places to eat on the same block as the motel. Further, it's only a few blocks to the Gaslamp Quarter which is a truly amazing area. The only drawback, which the motel has no control over, is this area of town has a large homeless population. I didn't have any problems, but I was approached many times asking for handouts. The motel was certainly a haven and comfortable.

I stayed at this hotel for a convention. It was about 20 min walk to the convention center which was a little further than I wanted but not too bad. The main thing is that it's only 3 storeys from the ground floor in the middle of downtown. Now San Diego isn't manhattan, but it is noisy when you're low to the ground, and your window faces the street. This is the case with about half the rooms, so it may be quieter on the other side if you can get a room there. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Rooms were not as nice as they seemed in pictures, a little ratty for a 3 star.

OK as a place to crash for the night and get a good breakfast in the morning, but the room and bathroom are small and the beds are uncomfortable.

My husband and I found this hotel to be a much better experience than our last trip to San Diego. Our room was a King Suite and it was very nice. The bathroom was a bit small, but the space in the room made up for it. We had a nice view and the staff was very good. Everyone treated us courteously and the breakfast in the morning was great! All in all, well worth the price we paid!

Location is perfect for what ever you want to do in San Diego.

The Holiday Inn Express sits up on a hill so there is a nice breeze from the bay overlooking west of downtown and the bay. This was a good choice location north of downtown away from the bars, clubs and traffic. Walking distance to the Gaslamp three blocks. Breakfast was comparable to any buffet breakfast for the price. Parking was tight, if you drive a large vehicle this could be a problem manuvering around. It will definately be a choice for me next year for the KIFM 98.1 Jazz Festival in the Gaslamp.
