Family of 4; grocery store close, pizza close. Awesome hotel!!!

spacious room , close to airport

It is a little bit of an oddball place to stay, but very nice and pretencious. It now has some nearby bars and restaurants, but car required for most other places.

it is a very nice hotel - but the whole city needs better signs. It was very hard to find and the directions on map quest were not correct. The only way we found it was by seeing a small sign off the side of the highway. As far as the hotel, it is lovely. You can tell that it is run by Hilton since your standards are usually very high. Safety was also a concern. It's too bad that the hotel is in a bad neighborhood and there aren't any places to walk to for entertainment. It was the best of the hotels in the city overall and the food was great.

The hotel was nice enough, but we were disappointed that the free continental breakfast promised was not delivered. Instead we had to spend over $60 on breakfast. Neither the restaurant staff or front desk staff would help with this problem. We were also told that there was free WiFi, but when we arrived we were told there is a fee.

This was a great hotel. We were very pleased at the amenities and the staff was very pleasant. My only complaint would be that it was difficult to sign on for the wireless network.

I stayed at the Double Tree Cariari for 1 night when I arrived in San Jose. Close to the airport in a great and quiet neighborhood. The staff was friendly and the hotel was great! A perfect start for my vacation. Very Relaxing! Highly Recommend!

First of all, you should know that I consider myself to be a very experienced traveler. I have stayed in many hotels in Latin America. This is a nice hotel. The most defining characteristic is its extensive lush landscaping. All of the room hallways in the hotel and the restaurant are open air and surrounded by vegetation. This gives the hotel a real tropical feel. My room was clean and very comfortable with tile floors. The hotel has an open air restaurant which adjoins a beautiful pool area. The food was good, but a little pricey. I recommend the French Onion soup - delicious. The hotel is fairly close to the airport (not real close). Its about a 15 minute ride with traffic. The hotel has an airport shuttle which leaves the hotel every hour. As far as I was able to determine, the shuttle does not pick up passengers at the airport. Rather it simply takes guests from the hotel to the airport. The only drawback I found was that the hotel was quite a distance away from downtown San Jose where all the nightlife is. A taxi cab costs 20 dollars each way and with traffic the commute can take some time. Also single guys should know that the hotel charges a 50 dollar fee for guests in the room which I thought was quite steep, Those concerns aside, this hotel is a excellent choice.

The food in the restraunt was poor quality. In addition, They state having free shuttle service to airport but that does not hold true if you have early flights out.

old hotel, smell mold in the room, got allergy the next day, restaurant stuff was really lazy had to almost get into the kitchen to make them serve me.

Hotel was very nice. Has an open breese way throughout all the halls. Nice shops and meeting accomedations. Very close to the airport. Seems to be a great business stay hotel, but still very helpful to the family traveler

This hotel is within 3 miles of San Jose CR airport, yet it sits next to a golf course. The rooms are large with very comfortable beds. The staff is very accomodating and the ammenities include a small casino, a breezy restaurant and a lovely pool that creates an oasis for travelors.

Excellent hotel if you need to stay close to the airport. Friendly and helpful. Pool area nice. Rooms very spacious. Construction in lobby , but our room was not effected by noise.

Nice clean lobby / friendly staff / clean and nicely appointed room. The only so-so item was the lack of COLD water in the shower, otherwise very nice hotel.

Close to airport which was a real plus. We stayed at 6 hotels in Costa Rica and this was the only one that charged for Wi-fi. The air conditioning could not be adjusted--not good

The hotel is nice enough, just a little tired. Rooms are updated, but the general feel is something from the 70's.

The hotel was spacious. A great value for the money . The staff was very attentive.

We stayed here for one night in August, 2011. Our final destination was on the coast in Guanacoste, but our flight arrived so late we wouldn't have made it without driving until 2 a.m., so we booked this place. The physical hotel is beautiful---a sprawling compound with lush foliage, a very nice pool and plenty of indoor and outdoor gathering spots. Our room was large and well-appointed, with nice furnishings and a very nice bathroom and flat-screen TV. I was a bit underwhelmed by the greeting on arrival. The front desk seemed courteous but surprisingly, just a bit snooty. I say that because we didn't experience this attitude in any other hotels in Costa Rica. They have a dedicated, fenced-in parking lot for safe parking of your car, along with 24-hour access. This was a nice feature which allowed us to sleep easier, knowing a guard was on duty. English language ability was weak, so it would be well to know a bit of Spanglish to be properly understood. I'd stay here again. The price was good for the accomodations.

After reviewing different options, we decided to do the Doubletree Cariari instead of cheaper options near the airport. We flew in about 9:30 am and had a whole day to waste in San Jose before our early flight the next morning, so I wanted to stay at a nicer but still cheap option for that day. We were very satisfied with everything. Pros: - nice hotel. Clean rooms, good service, nice pool area, restaurant on site (about $15-20/meal) - across the street from a grocery store and a couple additional restaurants (try the italian place above the grocery store, excellent pizza) - not too far from the airport (about $12 cab fare) Cons - there wasn't much surrounding the hotel. I didn't feel safe walking too far from the hotel but for a one day stay, we didn't feel like we had to as the hotel was nice to hang around Overall, it did the job for a one day stay. If were only going to do it for a night and not spend the day there, then we would maybe choose the cheap ones by the airport

This is a beautiful and very comfortable place to stay. If you do not speak spanish well most of the concierge and staff do speak English. Although the food was very good that we ordered, we were a bit disappointed by the "American-ized" menu in the restaurant and for Costa Rica this is a high end and more pricey place to eat. Also, playing in the casino is not like playing in the U.S. Everytime you cash out, even to move machines an attendant has to come, take your name and picture before THEY get the money out of the machine. After a couple of times of this and their annoyance, I just played until I lost all of my money in the machine so I could leave. Not much fun.,,

Very nice place to stay. Staff was great. The restaurant had excellent food but was very expensive.

The staff at the DoubleTree Hotel are wonderful. Everyone was very, very accomodating...from the Bell Boys to the Managers. The hotel is beautiful and service was great.

The hotel is very pleasing to the eye, very clean and the staff were extremely pleasant and capable. I would definitely stay again when I am in San Jose.

This hotel surpassed our expectations. It was beautiful, the restaurants were great, including one fancy steakhouse and one more casual delicious restaurant, too. The staff were excellent, room was fantastic! We wanted for nothing our whole stay. It was a little further drive to the SJO airport than I expected, but the cab was only $15 (we left too early for the 7am shuttle--the first of the day), so we didn't complain, Just be sure to leave yourself a good 15-20 mins to get there. If you need an overnight or if you are going to stay for a few nights, look no further.

Very nice decor and welcoming hotel. Not the usual business hilton i have visited in the past. Lots of plants and exotic trees, spacious rooms, swimming pool with palm trees around...a very location close to the airport. They have a shuttle but it is hard to get. Taxi is quick and easy. Highly recommend pit stop in San Jose.

This hotel is conveniently located about 15 minutes from the airport and within walking distance of a large mall, grocery stores and restaurants. The buffet breakfast at the hotel was very good. There is free WiFi in the lobby. Unfortunately, the pool was not heated. The service from the consierge was excellent as he helped us with a taxi driver who was demanding much more than originally agreed upon when we arrived back at the hotel.

The hotel is clean and comfortable. Shuttle bus to airport doesn't always work and you may need to go by taxi.

We had a great stay at the hotel. my son had a birthday and the stay had a cake sent to the room for him, he was elated. after 4 weeks of travelling through rain forests and sand beaches, we need some clean comfortable accomodations and we were not let down. thank you for being consistant to our expectations.

I chose this hotel because it was outside the city and easy to find--just off highway 1. We stayed our first and last night in Costa Rica. We were not disappointed. The accommodations were great and we enjoyed our dinners at the pool-side restaurant. It was easy to get to the beach from this hotel via the new toll highway 27 too. I am always satisfied with staying at any Doubletree hotel. Use directions from Doubletree website to get to hotel from the airport. And, a previous viewer listed directions to get to the new highway.

We got a good discount so stayed here one night before leaving for Arenal. Shuttle service to/from airport has to be reserved, but is cheaper than a taxi. Staff was very friendly and helpful. At full price it's probably overpriced, but with a discount it's a good choice - especially for staying near SJO airport.

Lovely hotel, people were very nice and helpful. Restaurant had good food and reasonable prices. Pool was great as was the jacuzzi.. Clean rooms, beautiful lobby. No complants at all. Will stay again and recommend to others

We showed up late and even though the restaurant was closing they made us dinner and were so polite. We enjoyed every part of this hotel!! One very nice part is that there is a guard that is there to watch the cars. In San Jose you have a great chance of someone breaking into your car if left overnight -so this was a big relief.

The resturant is very good with wide range of dishes-international and local cuisine. The staff service was perfect and extremely friendly. The pool, bar, casino, room outstanding. We will always book this hotel in San Jose.

The room bathroom walls were dirty, blocked bathtub and very low water pressure in the bathroom. I stayed overnight on my way to the airport.
