We stayed with our 2 children. Loved the location, convenient surface lot parking across the street was reasonably priced. We would stay here again. Next time we'll make reservations at the restaurant.

Great hotel, excellent service. Chicago is an overpriced hotel market and this is a 4 star hotel at about 1/2 to 2/3rd the price of chain hotels.

The Public was one of the best hotel experiences that I have had. A friend had planned a birthday trip for me and had originally booked another property. However, at the last minute, a great price on Public popped up and the switch was made. And what a fortuitous switch it was! To start, the lobby is amazing, both architecturally and owing to the hot vibe of most of the people in it (the energy on Saturday night was infectious). The room was even better. It was quiet, comfortable, incredibly roomy, and the epitome of sleek and modern artistry. The lighting could be set to be soft and romantic or highly functional. The bathroom was so big that you could almost get lost in it! The crisp "whiteness" of it was stunning. In truth, this place is too nice to be "public" and should be limited to being "private"! We had wanted to try it for years...we will definitely go back whenever we can!

Nice clean modern hotel. The cheaper room lack comfort. Restaurant and bar is crowded and very noisy, but the food is good. This hotel attracts the younger crowd and is not a quiet place, parties in the rooms go the entire night. I had to change my very nice room, because of this issue, but was given a beatiful and quiet suite. Even in the suite no robe, slippers or shower gel.

A new favourite

Cannot beat location if you want to feel as if you're in a real neighborhood!

As one would expect from an Ian Schrager hotel, the service was excellent and the attention to detail was superb (down to the way the continental breakfast was delivered in the morning and the availability of warm cookies and milk in the afternoon). While the lobby and restaurant bars are beautiful, the rooms lean toward minimalist. Clean and nicely appointed but minimal. A very hip looking and feeling hotel.

This hotel was designed for me - simple, yet so cool. Great service!

Stayed with my wife for business/leisure trip. Newly remodeled room is nice and cozy,,,a little small and kind of stark but cool. The bathroom lighting is a little dim for the ladies. I liked the dimmers however on the room fixtures and the TV gets a nice HD picture. Service is quick as was valet. I would stay again.

I think that this is a hotel for younger people. The beds are very low to the floor and difficult to get out of. The bathtub is difficult to get in to. It is very high. Unfortunatley we were there when there was a very obnoxiuos wedding party. Loud and took over the lobby. Not the hotels fault.

The room was very clean and the thermostat kept the temperature at whatever we set it at. Will definitely stay here again.

After re construction, the hotel looks brand new and the bar is great. Most importantly, the waitresses at the bar are super pretty and super hot.

Had a wonderful stay at Public - I've been in the hotel when it used to be The Ambassador and I am blown away by the amazing renovation and redesign of the lobby, Pump Room and guest rooms. We used to live around the corner, so it was perfect for our return stay in the city. Concierge was very accomodating and drinks at the Library bar can't be beat. Guests should remember the hotel is an older building so rooms are on the smaller side, as are the bathrooms. Definitely comfortable, worth the stay.

We have stayed at Ambassador East many times so it was quite shocking to see the complete renovation. Minimalist decor, ultra contemporary, very comfy beds and improved bathroom space. However, the lighting was so dim I could hardly see to put my makeup on. Appreciated the free wi-fi, mini bar and the coffee bar addition downstairs. Pump Room was pricey but delicious and very trendy, youthful. Fun weekend at the right price.

The Public Hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of Chicago for shopping, trips to the Museums, and great dinning! Dinning in the Pump Room is not to be missed. While the hotel gym is adequate, make sure you take advantage of the near by David Barton Gym. You have free admittance by simply showing your room key.

The lobby, bar and restaurant are very cool; and great, quiet, stately neighborhood; but our room and bathroom were tiny, very little drawer or storage space, plumbing didn't work well and the bolt on the door didn't work. Surprising for a building that was just renovated, Lots of flash, but not much on creature comforts. No coffee in room and steep charges for cofee in the lobby. Took 20 minutes to get a cab to the airport. On balance, we were quite disappointed.

The only issue I had was the loud heater in my room that sounded like a construction crew was was running maintenance in my room. It was cold outside so I was glad for the heat but the noise made it hard to sleep.

Stayed here for New Year's Eve and were willing to pay the high dollar ticket for this room. However, we did not know how small the room was going to be! We may stay again though, good service, beautiful interior design. The bar and food are also very pricey.

The hotel was conveniently located close to the John Hancock Center. The rate was reasonable for downtown Chicago, but beware that if you're driving a car, overnight parking is pretty expensive.

I frequent Chicago and am always happy when I stay here.

I'm a return customer and love this place! Every time I stay here, I fully enjoy the hotel, the food, the employees! 100% satisfied, AGAIN!

Great hotel, good service, nice rooms, cool bar, tea room and lobby. This hotel made my business trip feel luxurious.

Upon checking in, we were immediately upgraded to a corner suite (for free), and the desk staff was even nice enough to loan us an iPhone charger. The room was modern, clean and spacious, with a huge bathroom and walk-in closet. It's in a wonderful part of the city, close to shopping and the lake, and our room had a beautiful view of the loop. We had great drinks (and some of the best calamari I've ever had) at the Pump Room on the ground floor, and coffee in bed first thing in the morning...overall the service and accommodations were excellent, and the best I've ever experienced in their price range. I definitely know where I'm staying whenever I'm in Chicago!

I think that the bathrooms are too small. Stayed in loft room, which was spacious and then a tiny, cramped bathroom.

The room was very nice and comfortable but the bathroom was rather small. Temperature controls in each room. You are paying for the location of the hotel. Was very busy in the evenings, and the lounges were very crowded but there are a lot of nice watering holes and restaurants nearby. Within walking distance of Michigan Avenue in moderate weather. May want to cab it when it gets cold.

First time at this hotel, although we travel to Chicago often & typically stay in the Loop area. Loved the location - on the Gold Coast but close to CTA, a wide range of eateries (and prices), and both shopping and sightseeing sites. Best feature was the service, as they were extraordinarily helpful in accommodating our Hurricane Sandy extended stay.

LOVE IT!

I'd stay there again.

College dorm style rooms. Tiny bathrooms. The bathroom was so small I couldn't sit straight on the toilet. The shower was smaller than a broom closet. NO CABS!!! It took me 45 minutes to get a cab! Room service was decent, but expensive. I won't be back.

Really enjoyed the Pump Room bar just off the lobby!

great hotel- updates look amazing. only issue was that i had a room next to the elevator and heard the wires being moved up and down to each floor the following morning.
