This is a great hotel. The location is a tiny bit out of the way (north of the loop by 3 subway stops) but it's a quiet and safe location. We had a very comfortable stay, the room was exceptionally clean. The service was professional and helpful. I am not so sure that the room would have been quiet if there were occupants in the next room, but luckily there weren't. Overall, a comfortable and lovely hotel. We will stay there again, I am sure.

Every employee was very helpful and courteous. Hotel is in a great location! The one disappointment was NO hot water mid-morning....slept in and had a "lukewarm" shower to start our day.

We were very satisfied with the hotel,staff. cleanliness and the amenities. We also enjoyed the hotel.com rate! The renovations at the hotel are absolutely beautiful. Loved the bar atmosphere. I also think the morning children's room is a great idea for young visiting families. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. We were entirely pleased with our stay.

Beautiful hotel, Pump Room was cool, food was good, rooms are way too small for even 2 people. I would not stay here again after staying in places like the James, the Dana, etc.

Best re-do of an old hotel I've seen! Cool decor, all the electrical sockets you'd need, good wi-fi. I really liked the room service with the pre-packaged meals, super-fast (if not the best quality) and reasonably priced. I also had two breakfasts in the Pump Room -- truly great cuisine, great service, very satisfactory. Decent coffee (room service and restaurant), lots of hot water (and a decent-sized tub), a large closet, feather pillows, cotton-covered comforter. Nothing much to complain about, other than the price, which is still cheaper than anything else I could find in Chicago near there.

When I first heard that the old Ambassador East had been sold and would be renovated, I was sad to see a Chicago landmark end its days. However, the newly reinvented PUBLIC Hotel has surpassed my expectations. Outstanding job!

I was in Chicago to attend the AHR Expo and I wasn't sure about staying at the Public Chicago, until a friend of mine told me how great it was. Well, I was very impressed with the entire hotel, from the hospitable service to the modern settings of my room. I know that I'll book at the Public again, the next time I travel to Chicago!!

Put protein into the offerings at The Library for breakfast and fix the taxi problem- it's real and serious. The doorman didn't offer the"house car" until the next doorman came on. Got soaked walking in the rain up to Division st where there were o cabs either. this is the second visit that the taxi issue surfaced. Next time will be three strikes............

I have stayed at the Public twice, once when it was still called the Ambassador East, and now under it's new name and fresh face lift. Very clean hotel, excellent service, friendly staff, and great location. Love Chicago, and go there on business often. Always stay at the Public!

I liked the hotel and the staff. They were excellent. I had to be in Chicago by myself and found the restaurant and bar crowd very stiff and in general, snobby. I was there over the weekend so I think I saw the weekend local crowd?

Great place...and location!

I really enjoyed my time here. The Library, Business Center, and Fitness Center were great and hardly used at all on weekday days/ nights. The desk is metal and therefore cold to the touch while working in the room which I found an odd choice. The decor is quite sterile/neutral so if you enjoy that it's a great fit, I personally prefer some warm colors here and there. But pickiness aside. A great, clean, efficient, friendly, casually upscale boutique hotel that delivers on what it promises. The red line is a couple of blocks away and there is plenty of casual dining options, a grocery store, and drug stores nearby if you are in town for a longer visit.

Stayed there for NYE and fell in love with place. All the workers were very friendly and accommodating. The room we had was very clean and the decor was very nice. It's also close to all the hot spots and would definitely recommend to everyone!

I went as a single person to enjoy the city for a couple of nights. It's got a great location, good vibe, and nice people working there.A four star choice.

Only complaint was that bed is on floor which made it a bit difficult to stand up for people that are older or have some kind of disability. Other than that the renovation is beautiful. Very classy . We loved watching the young beautiful people for which this hotel will attract. A far cry from the outdated Ambassadors East hotel which 40 years ago was probably considered elegant in its day. But hooray they saved the Pump Room movie star photos although they have been tucked away in the corner.

I heard about PUBLIC in mid-august and wanted to stay there, but I had not opened yet. So my girlfriend and I stayed in a few hotels near Michigan Ave. Nothing against them, but no thank you to being so close to so many people. PUBLIC is located just north of downtown and is extremely accessible to all surrounding neighborhoods. As for the stay. AMAZING! Everything is minimal and clean. Nothing is stuffy, which makes for a great stay. I lived in Chicago my whole life and have recently moved and I must say, PUBLIC is my favorite. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed the lobby, the pumproom, the neighborhood, and the service. That said, the building is old which leads to loud radiators and low pressure showers. For the price, its a great deal - but it would be nice to get those details fixed...

I live in Chicago on the north side but my husband and I got a room downtown to celebrate our anniversary away from our 14 month old baby. We couldn't have been more pleased. The hotel is GORGEOUS and has a very hip bar scene on both sides of the lobby. We ordered room service and the food was great. Absolutely loved our stay down to our allowed late check out on a Sunday at 2pm. Staff was great, over-all a wonderful experience. The only complaint and it's not even a big one is that the elevators are rather slow and always packed.

Excellent Hotel Service and Room

It is like going home when I think about my next time stay at the Public.

I enjoyed my stay the the Public. The customer service was excellent and the room was incredibly clean. My only complaint is that I didn't have a comfortable chair to sit in the room, but it was minor issue. I would stay there again.

This hotel has great service and is very Nice. I gave it a 4 because it is way to modern. The extreme moderness of the hotel lacks comfort in some areas. Mainly the bedding and the food. Beware the bed sit very low to the floor and is not thick or luxurous. And the food offered by the hotel, while upscale is lacking in variety... not every loves a good salad. But the overall service in the hotel is OUTSTANDING. Just depends on what your looking for.

Clean, well kept up. I miss the old "Pump Room", but the food was excellent anyway.

While I was in Chicago for business, I booked into the newly remodeled Public and was very impressed by what I found. Having once been the Ambassador East with the ambience of the Hollywood Stars, I was very impressed with what had been accomplished with the remodel. The rooms were decorated beautifully and the "mood" lightling in the room let me enjoy sleep yet awake without bumping my head into unfamilair surroundings. The Pump Room remains but has been totally redone adding a wonderful new venue to the City of Chicago. The Bar was crowded and you can feel the energy in the air. Just a short walk to the Rush Street Area leads this hotel to be a must stay in Chicago!

I've stayed here often, and it has just switched ownership and only got better! A great hip, no attitude, high end business or pleasure place to stay. it almost feels like an apartment.

This is my new favorite Chicago hotel!

I was really excited to stay in this new hotel, although the setting is very impressive the staff were really unhelpful. We wanted to have dinner or breakfast but the restaurant was full that evening. We then decided to have breakfast the next morning so left our room just after 11. We were then told the breakfast had finished when it stated it ran until 11.30 The people at reception were very unhelpful and knew no explanation of why they stopped it early. The satff seemed clueless.

Caught in Chicago for a extra night and saw that Public was a new Ian Schraeger hotel in town. Great service a bit of a mix up in checking in, but handled well, great bar, room was small but just what I needed and I would gladly suggest or have friends stay at Public as needed. Have to say it was very well done!

This is the Hottest and COOLEST Modern Hotel in the windy city! LOVED!!!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Definetly worth the $$ we spent. We arrived early to see if the staff could hold our bags at the hotel until checkin time and instead they gave us a room early. The room was well decorated. I loved the simplicity of it. My only complaint was the bed was a little hard for my taste. The staff was so exceptional and the lobby and coffee bar area was great in the AM. I would definitely reccommend this hotel and will stay in it again when i come back.

Good location--lunch in the restaurant was very good--(try the brisket french dip sndwich)---really appreciate the free wi-fi--I dont know why all hotels dont do this---makes all the sense in the world for good customer service versus the few dollars they may make on the upcharge. Only complaint is the bed---hard, on the floor, uncomfortable. The farther away I get from my college days--the farther away I want to get from sleeping on the floor. You can be trendy and stylish with a bed you dont have to fall into. Other than that---a perfect stay.

I loves my stay here and I have already referred someone who I booking a room here in 2 weeks. I have already booked my next stay at this hotel. Great environment and service. Overall a great experience.

Stayed here Oct 9-11 (got a great preview rate!) missed their grand opening party (lots of media attention) after checking out. The interior decor is an elegant classical look and feel. This was my first time in Chicago and this hotel made me feel like a I was a local. Less than a 7-10 min walk to Rush st. good eats and all the shopping you can handle. The room was a bit small but they managed to make it seem bigger with the modern decor, furnishings...all simply elegant. Free WiFi was a great plus. The fitness center was surprisingly nice with new equipment incl a barrage of cardio machines. The service was outstanding: the concierge managed to squeeze in my party of 3 in the booked up Pumproom for dinner. She also booked me a last minute airport transfer ensuring me a ride in time for my flight. Overall, this is in my top 5 hotel stays and #1 in the "boutique" category. I will always stay here when visiting Chicago! Tip: If you need a caffeine rush, try their drop coffee in the coffee bar/lounge. Grab your coffee, pop a squat in the comfy spacious lounge, and enjoy free refills while you read or surf to free WiFi.

I feel the hotel has lost some of its historic importance in a great city. The customer service was good and all employees were very helpful. The location was great for us due to the origin of our visit in Chicago. The big dissappointment was the comfort of the bed. I would compare it to sleeping on a board. The pillows were equally as bad. The whole feeling about the room was just not good. Too much white, odd pictures, most channels did not work on the TV, and no view. When I made the reservation I was told we were getting a king size bed but apparently that was not the case. Overall compared to what else is out there I do not feel I got my moneys worth. I will not recommend to others.

The hotel has tremendous energy. Would recommend this hotel for business & leisure. The food in the Pump Room was excellent. I cannot wait to return.

We were forced to upgrade our usual hotel to the Public due to the Chicago Marathon event. Couldn't have been happier with the Public. Such an elegant hotel, what a treat! The room was very comfortable and clean with a large walk-in closet. About a 10 minute walk to shopping on north Michigan Ave. Surrounded by residential homes that were beautiful to look at. If we'd walked several blocks farther north, could have seen the beautiful residence of the Cardinal. I highly recommend this hotel if you can afford it. Sadly, we'll be more price conscious next time!

This newly renovated hotel is beautiful! It's a dream for a minimalist like me. Not real crowded with decoration; very modern with clean lines. Beautiful lobby and the staff is MAGNIFICENT!! I asked about surrounding attractions; the information and directions were delivered to my room by the most courteous gentleman ever!! The Toad hole breakfast which included toast with a fried egg in the middle and smoked salmon was delicious! The only thing I would change is the mattress which was a little too firm for me. Overall, my stay was great and I would stay there again!!! Thank you PUBLIC Chicago for such a warm welcome and stay!!!
