Best bang for your buck with this place. Only thing is Chiles Resturant can get loud in their parking lot.

For an older motel it was just slightly above average. The pluses where a friendly staff, nice large breakfast area with a good selection for breakfast and comfortable rooms. The negatives are it's old, noisy, and a little cramped. There is also not much around the hotel but then you are just a couple miles away from one of the nicest places on the west coast so it all evens out.

We booked through a third party website on the phone and we thought we were paying for two nights in a king room. When we walked into our room we had two full size beds. When we called down to the front desk, they said because of booking through a third party there is no guarantee of the room. So why would we pay for a certain room and get another! We won't be staying there again. It was close to a Starbucks which was a plus for me and had a decent free breakfast in the morning though

Condition of the hotel was adequate. Staff was nice enough when we checked in. Our problem however was on how small the rooms were. We were pretty much tripping over ourselves, over the bed, and over the furniture because everything was crammed into such a small room. Oh, and in case you were wondering, we are NOT large people. ;-) Overall, this hotel was adequate for a quick overnight stay through M.Bay. The breakfast was pretty good - but also really crowded with rude tourists.

We have stayed here the last few years for the annual Sea Otter Classic at Laguna Seca and also with our kids while driving through Monterey. Good location to get into Monterey or use the great bike/jog trail. This last visit we were disturbed multiple times by some guest that seemed out of control at odd hours, but in the past had better experiences. One elevator seems to add congestion when using the upper floors. The morning continental breakfast can be a bit crowded/chaotic but usually expected with that kind of offering. The rooms are clean, not all appear updated the same as one of our rooms had a nice flat screen tv the other had old school tv with not so good picture. But overall, its a Holiday Inn Express with a convenient location.

Really good value for money, stay at back of hotel so you dont hear the road...

It was by far one of the worst hotels we have stayed. They only have one elevator for the entire hotel, which is constantly used by the personnel to do their work, so you end up waiting 5 minutes in the cold wind every time you need to use it. It takes so long that they cannot even get the rooms ready or cleaned up on time, ours never got done on time, we had to ask them for new towels and emptying the trash can at least.The pool side doesn't have double pane windows so if there's people in the pool or hot tub you won't get any rest. There's lots of warnings about stolen things and car break ins, which doesn't inspire any peace of mind. We heard alarms going off in the middle of the night a couple of times. The hot water in the shower kept coming in bursts. The breakfast is good and employees are very nice though.

Well, the pictures paint a nicer picture than it is. The room was clean and reasonably furnished but no microwave or fridge. Overall, this hotel is lack luster. There is a sign in the reception that says it is independently owned, which means that they are no longer affiliated with the Holiday Inn chain. They have a maintenance problem and for the rates, I don't recommend this place unless you are just looking for a one night lay over on your way to Big Sur or somewhere else. It is located on the main thoroughfare into town and the hwy goes right by, so it is pretty noisy. The water did not work consistently on the 5th floor. I turned on the shower, and the water just stopped coming. After a few seconds, it came back on. I reported it to the hotel and spoke to the maintenance person myself, and I asked him if it was a water pump problem. He said it is a water company problem. In either case, that is just not right for a place needing to provide hotel service. The breakfast was fairly low quality and did not offer fresh fruit or lighter/healthier/fresh options. My key also was not working properly and it turns out there was something wrong with the reader. In other words, for $150 a night, this was not a good value. I only landed here because 2 condos or cottages had already been rented. For the same price, if I had planned better I could have had a nice garden, kitchen, living room and bedroom.

The location was great! Nice running trail across the street too.

Great location, reasonable price, decent breakfast. The view of the hotel from the back side of the hotel is much nicer than the front. Close to several nice towns. I recommend this hotel.

The hotel is okay if you are passing through. If you are staying more than one night, or if you'd like to be close to anything in the area like the beach, Monterey or Carmel stay elsewhere. The rooms are tiny with small beds. DO NOT stay here if you have 4 people.

The day was very nice,the hotel is excelent and breakfast was delicious

This is the second time we've stayed here. It's clean and affordable. In addition, there's free wifi and continental breakfast!

My husband, our 5 yr old daughter, and I visited for vacation to Monterrey and had a wonderful experience at the Holiday Inn Express. Close to the beach, the aquarium, Dennis the Menace park! The room was clean but the beds were a little small. I had to sleep with my daughter because two adults don't fit comfortably in one bed... But no big deal since it was a family vacation and not a honeymoon. The breakfast was good but gets really crowded. Overall, i would stay there again!

My family vacation stay was overall satisfying.

The hotel itself is in a great location, on the boarder of Seaside, and Monterey. However, the hotel itself was a bit lackluster. We asked for a room with a water view, with the pond directly behind the hotel. Well, we were given a room with a view however it was blocked by the staircase. We were also given a room with two twin beds and when we called to request to change rooms, the front desk clerk said there was no availability, however several of the rooms were open. The blinds were left open and several rooms were left vacant for both nights. They did not call us to offer us to switch rooms. Secondly, the rooms are decently decorated, however we found them to be very small, and the ceiling seemed to be encroaching upon our space. Lastly, the room had a particular smell. Possibly due to the poor ventilation system as the steam from the previous nights shower was noticeable on the front door frame the morning after. The next time we visit we will not be booking our stay here.

although i only stayed one night it wasn"t bad the carpet could have been cleaner, the staff was good

Great hotel for the price. Room was clean, great location, extremely friendly staff! We will definitely stay here again.

The stay was great. I would have preferred some actual weights in the gym and not just Treadmills.

The hotel was lovely; clean and modern. The view from the fifth floor was beautiful! The staff was very accomodating when we requested a room with a view of the ocean. An overall wonderful night - we will definitely stay there again when we return to the area!

Room is a bit small, but comfortable. However, no refrigerator in the room. Microwave can be find near the lobby. Nice view over the lagoon at the back of the hotel. Breakfast is good.

Great location and clean facility very friendly workers

I stayed here prior to a track day at Laguna Seca. It's about ten minutes from the track so it was really close. Like the title says older hotel with the entrance to the rooms on the outside rather than the inside of the building. This lends itself to being a little noisier than most, but the cleanliness, location, and price means I'd give it 4 stars with an asterisk.

Very convenient access to the freeway and Peninsula destinations; great breakfast; clean, comfortable, quiet, large, very nice rooms; walking distance to Chili's for dinner.

Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was only ok. I was surprised that the hallways were outside. It was cold and windy, we were on the 5th floor and there was only one elevator. In general a decent place at a decent price.

great place to stay for young families. the breakfast buffet was an amazing time saver. room was small on the small size but fresh and clean. staff friendly. loved the wetlands near by fear for their future. hopefully monterrey values their life giving properties.

Convenient, Great Value for your money

The room was comfortable enough, but their were multiple annoying issues with the door key system. We had to get our keys renewed three times despite keeping them away from cell phones as instructed. The breakfast room was very crowded with long lines and not enough tables, we left to find a restaurant all three days. But despite these issues, we would stay there again due to the location, rates, staff, and over-all cleanliness.

Decent Hotel, good location, excellent for a quick night in

Very nice hotel and the staff was wonderful.

The cleaning staff has thrown our belongings which was wrapped in a towel. They did not bother to see whats is inside. When we asked the front desk they said they did not find anything.

Not my worst stay at a hotel but quite close. Very noisy, thin walls. Bed was uncomfortable. Fragrance/scent from cleaning products or deodorizers extremely potent. Dirty carpets. Stained chairs... I'd rather drive 1.5 hrs back home before I stay here again.

Our 2 night stay was relatively comfortable. The rooms look to have been redone recently, however I wished they would have spent some money on a better mattress. Mine was very hard so I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked. The hotel is 2 blocks from the beach but you have to pass through a busy intersection. Don't recommend with small children unless you have a stroller. Otherwise everything was great.

Overall very pleased with this hotel. It is exceptionally clean, very comfortable and has several very nice perks including the reasonable rate, great complimentary breakfast bars, and central location. The staff were very attentive and helpful with information and directions.

Pretty much average in every aspect, close to the beach though.

We enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express at Monterey Bay but there were a couple of small things that kept me from giving it an all 5 rating. The hotel seemed very well maintained except for the elevator. There was some graffiti scratched into the wood walls and it was very slow. Everything else seemed modern and up to date but this elevator was a throwback. Needs updating. The service was good. We wanted to find a place to eat within walking distance and the guy at the reception desk was able to give several recommendations. The room was pretty nice but there was very little counter space for our toiletries in the bathroom. Could have used another sitting chair.

We all enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Able to get were we needed easily.

Nice rooms with good breakfast. Quiet rooms with little noise.
