We enjoyed it - staff were extremely good & helpful --- the location ideal the hotel a little tired- but the price was good. The breakfast was a bonus. We would stay there again

My girlfriend and I went to San Fran for our 3 year anniversary to see Jim Gaffigan perform stand up. The hotel is GREAT. FAST customer service, clean rooms, great location, and fair price. I would definetly recommend to my friends.

Great deal for the price. Staff is very friendly. Location is only a few blocks from Union Square. It will cost you about $30 per day for parking, although you have in an out privileges. It can also be a bit noisy at night. Consider it a discounted type bed and breakfast.

Our room was small, but clean and comfortable. The Beresford is located just between swanky the Knob Hill neighborhood and the not-so-swanky Tenderloin (friends - and some online maps- call it the Tendernob) and in easy walking distance to Union Square and several trolley lines. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's a great deal if all you really want is someplace clean and comfortable to stash your belongings during the day and get some rest at night.

The hotel has an old world charm. It has art from England and early San Fransisco. The first night my sheets smelled musty, but after room was serviced, the sheets smelled fine. You had to ask for a hair dryer, and go down yourself to get it. There was only internet access from the first floor. The front desk lady was very helpful. The bed was too soft for my taste. The tv was old (had a slot for a vcr tape). Overall, it was a good price for the location. It had lots of international tourists.

Very clean, comfortable beds, nice linens and towels. The location is excellent. Carpeting appeared newer and spotless. Staff friendly and helpful. Will stay there again. Did not hear any noise from adjoining rooms once during 6 night stay.

The location of the Beresford is excellent, just a few blocks from Union Square. I really like the White Horse Pub, part of the hotel, like an old English Pub. I don't think anyone could find a better quality hotel for the price. It has a lot of character that the more modern/new hotels lack. I wish they had better internet service which is not available in the rooms. One needs to go to the hotels lobby area for wifi.

Adequate in all respects and at the edge of the Union Square shopping, gallery and entertainment district. I've stayed before and will stay again. Be sure to ask for a room distant from trash pickup.

The room was clean. It was in the back of the hotel, right across the alley from a HVAC on top of another building which made constant noise. That didn't bother me but some people wouldn't like it. The surrounding neighborhood was fine. Minutes from Chinatown and Union Square.

1. No control over the heating system.... 2.Room we were put in faced several fire escapes from adjoining buildings and te noises from outside were so loud,you couldn't hear th other person talk. 3. No hair dryers in guest room, you needed to ask desk clerk for a dryer and return after using ridiculous. 4. Old TV, screen so small yu culd barely see it.. Would not recommend and would not go back

The hotel was nice, but showing it's age. The stairs kind of sag and creak a lot. It's pretty well kept, otherwise, and the outward appearance is very nice. It's in the same part of SF where I always stay--love the area. No wifi ended up being a big problem for us, though. Should have looked at that a little more closely before we booked.

The Beresford staff are extremely helpful and the location can't be beat. The rooms are small and dark, although clean. The breakfast is only muffins and fruit; but at this price and with so many restaurants in the neighborhood, it is worth it.

hotel was clean,staff was helpful,easy to get to.walking to embarcadero,chinatown,and other points of interest a piece of cake.no need for a vehicle or parking fee.the buses, trolley,cable car,and BART,all from outside the hotel to within two blocks,and they take you everywhere.love this city,and this hotel really made the experience even better.

My second stay there...it's a good, basic hotel. Interesting 100 year old building a short walk to Union Sq. shopping, the Powell St. Cable Car line and all kinds of public transit on Market Street. Also near theaters. . Sadly, the attached restaurant (which I loved before staying at hotel) is closed. But the bar is still open and fun. It feels more like a local pub than a tourist joint. And the Hotel Rex right across the street has a great little restaurant and a more up-scale feeling bar with neat 1930's style furniture.

This hotel is a great value for the money. The Hotel is older but it is half the price of many other hotels and the room was fine. Also, the location is solid. I would recommend this hotel.

We enjoyed 4 nights at the Beresford and thoroughly enjoyed the delights of San Francisco. The location is fantastic. It is just a few minutes walk to Union Square, the cable cars, department stores and a multitude of cafes. We found our room very comfortable and enjoyed the additional amenities of the hotel - the bar, lounge, wi-fi, and the computer facilities. We hope that we can return to San Francisco - it is definitely worth the trip from Australia. The Beresford Hotel would certainly be a good choice.

The hotel was old and the service was not good. It would be good for someone who goes to sleep very late. The streets were loud and cars were honking until 3am. There is no parking and unloading the car in front of the hotel was very dangerous. The hotel only has valet parking and they charge a lot. The staff was slow. The front desk staff spoke there native language the entire time. They only spoke English, when answering us. The rooms were clean, but very old! I would not recommend this hotel.

Free hotdogs in the bar at night... Apart from that. Staff look like they hate their job. Were close to aggressive at times. Rooms furniture breaking apart - mentioned it to staff and they laughed. Ok for a quick stay. Only good thing. The bar has a lovely lady working there. Go there if your room is too painful...

There is a plaque by the entrance that says that the building structure has not been reinforced and it will not withstand earthquakes!!!!! Why did the municipal government put that there?

Expensive for what they offer. I have stayed in many chain hotels which are far better for the same price!!!. It is an old hotel; the service is not that good, and the managers get annoyed and do not answer in a very pleasant way when you have questions. There is no internet service for your room which is incovenient. Some of the staff tried to be kind, but all and all I would not stay in this Hotel if I go back to SF. The only real good thing about this hotel is its location...just two blocks from Union Square, which connects you pretty easily to all major attractions.

Good breakfast included great assortment of fresh pastries, huge muffins and croissant's, fruit, cereal and coffee and oj. The room had character but no view. We would stay again.

I enjoyed this hotel. It had an old English vibe and the art on the walls was nice. The room was small as was the bathroom and the view was of the side of another building, but it was nice and clean and the staff was attentive, which is what I was looking to pay for. Luckily, I found on street parking near the hotel, so valet wasn't necessary. The adjacent pub had shuffle board and free popcorn and the downstairs bathroom was clean.

This is our second stay at this location both times with my husband and both times we have had a wonderful experience. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful, we particularly enjoyed the pub that was next door the bartender was very friendly. The cleanliness of the hotel was very well kept and the cleaning staff is wonderful. The location of this hotel is very much worth everything it's near most all major sites and the main trollies that can get you anywhere. I would pick this hotel over any based on its location alone the cleanliness and the friendly staff are just a very big plus. We will deffenetly be returning to the Beresford Hotel next time we are in town again.

This hotel was great and the price is better, I'm picky and usually stay in 5 star hotels but in SF that can be crazy expensive so I took the leap of faith and stayed at this charming hotel, it was clean, charming and comfortable, it was small but all rooms are small in SF, I have stayed here twice and love the prime location, u can walk to bus that will take u anywhere for 2 bux! And is very close to market street where there is great shopping and restaurants! And entertaining night spots!:) love this place and feels like SF all the way!

The hotel itself is clean and comfortable. The valet service is handy, but they take FOREVER... Call about 30 min before you need your vehicle if you are in a hurry! The White Horse next door ROCKS :)

I visited an event at the Marine Memorial Club Hotel next door to honor fallen soldiers and their families. This was a difficult event and the friendliness, helpfulness and going out of their way by the Beresford Hotel staff made my stay the peace and comfort I needed. I was allowed to check in early, given breakfast when I arrived and after a long day had a staff member spend 20 min. trying to flag a cab down so I could go to a late dinner. I traveled alone which even made their help more important. Traveling these days is very stressful! So...I checked out early to pay forward the hospitality. I've stayed there every year at this event and will continue to! It's a great place with a great staff!

Checking time is 3:00 not even at 2:30. There is no AC, no coffee or coffee maker, no hair dryer. Not a very friendly front desk staff. Small fitness room. Breakfast sucks, rooms are so little with no views, small and slow elevator, and it is very noise which makes it hard to sleep well at night. The only good thing about this hotel is its location which is within walking distance to Union Square, China time, etc. We will never stay at this place again.

Upon arrival we felt service to be terse...cold. In checking out we were pleased to see a warmth and genuine care. Like the faucets it takes some time to warm up. Beds are small...if you're a big guy try somewhere else.

I've been going to the Beresford Hotel on Sutter Street in San Francisco since 1971, and I think it's the most charming hotel in the city. It is affordable, and the rooms are cozy and sweet (I like a window on the street so I can hear the city, because I live in Santa Cruz). Staff are friendly. I walk everywhere - Chinatown, North Beach, Union Square, the Ferry Building (you might try the elderflower martini at the Slanted Door, or buy wine and cheese and take a picnic out to the boardwalk). The Beresford has a nice continental breakfast at the White Horse downstairs, where there's a fine selection of whiskey in the evenings. If you're a movie lover take the BART to the Castro Theater - or to Berkeley for the PFA. On my last stay at the Beresford I heard someone playing the violin on my way to my room, then drifted off to a great night's sleep.

This hotel has been around for a long time and the rooms and lobby will attest to that fact. Heat in the rooms has to be requested from the front desk, and even then I could not feel any heat. The room next to me was undergoing maintenance all during the day so there was constant banging and construction noise coming through the wall. Next time I will pay a bit more and get a better hotel.

OK, not great. Nice people at the desk . HVAC was LOUD! Convenient location. Would recommend with qualifications.

The White Horse Tavern and the location of this hotel are the reasons we stay here. It is convenient to an annual event at a close-by hotel but not as pricey. Since we spend a lot of time outside of our room, we tolerate its crampness and some of the older features that don't function well at times, like lights and room temperature. The pub is a great place to hang out.

The Beresford is only three blocks from Union Square, a central hub of downtown San Francisco. Two Macy's stores are there, and my favorite store in the world, Gumps, is only a couple blocks further. Chinatown is only a few blocks further, an easy walking distance. The Tenderloin District is a few blocks in the other direction, West, and is not a safe place to walk at night. The hotel is clean and comfortable, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

One valet!!! Lobby packed with people waiting for cars. One poor lady with her Daughter waited two hours. I took my keys and walk 8 blocks to get my own auto. We will never go back!!

Perfect for a quick stay. No luxury, clean enough, perfectly located near Union Square and Geary Theater.

I'd like to start off by saying that I checked in 1/10/12 and checked out 1/12/12. I would like to say that the customer service was excellent however, when i forgot my gold watch in the hotel and my food in the frig; The manager of the housekeeping dept said that she threw my food away, yet could not tell me what three items they threw away. I knew what they were, also my Gold watch I was told they did not find. At this point I have and will not refer this hotel to anyone. Someone there is not honest and had stolen my watch.Someone in this dept. needs to look into this. I will post periodically about this hotel unless something is done regarding my watch. This is bad business

We stayed there and were able to easily get from there to every place we wanted to visit while in town. The place is older, but it had character which helped add to the local vibe if you will. Also the pub inside was very cool, and the bartender made us feel like we were Norm from "Cheers".
