The Horton Grand Hotel - سان دييجو

The hotel is well located and has a real historic ambience. The staff is helpful and friendly. Our only negative is the lack of reasonably-priced parking. The per night charge seems high when added to the cost of the room.

Nice atmosphere, friendly helpful staff. Great location at a decent price.

We got the suite which had a fireplace and refrige and microwave==which we didn't use. Fireplace in bedroom,ok but not in room with crummy old TV. And on a street next to a night club that has screaming kids until the wee hours. Wish we had stayed with others at the convention near the water.

Beautiful Victorian Hotel with 1970's customer service!! This hotel is haunted but I was more afraid of the hotel clerk who was so negative and just rude, then I was afraid of the spirits that haunt Horton Grand Hotel!

Interesting old hotel with character. Gas fireplace in room a nice touch. Thermostat in room is not intuitive, difficult to use, and mounted sideways so hard to read. Room fan squealed such that it wasn't usable at night. Street noise at night during weekend is pretty significant. Little sound insulation between rooms. Decent location.

I was attanding a conference in San Diego and the recommended hotel was v expensive. I stayed at the Horton a a fraction of the cost. It was undergoing renovation but definitely acceptable. Rooms were spacious, clean and convenient. It was centrally located and good value for oney. The construction did not interfere with the enjoyment in all.

We liked that the hotel is an historic place that had famous guest stay their in the past. We enjoyed the Cheese shop cafe for breakfast. It is centrally located to lots of places you can walk to.

Nice old hotel in the Gaslamp district with convenient walk to the Convention Center. Staff was very friendly. The room was nice and clean.

I so loved this Hotel. It reminds me of the French Quarters in new Orleans. I will definately be back! And so close to everything and far enough away that its very quiet. The bed was so comfortable 12 noon check out was too early.

Stayed there for New Years Eve . Location was great. Price was right. Everything was perfect. Happy New Year 2012!

The room was great and very comfortable. The style reminded me of New Orleans, French Quarter style. I loved having the fireplace in my room and the balcony was great just to get some fresh air. The staff was very nice and helpful. They helped me plan out one of my days by giving me directions to a few places and the best route to get there based on the daily traffic. i checked out most of the locations they suggested and had a wonderful time at them all. My only problem was that parking is a little expensive, but I might take the train or fly their next time because it is so close to everything that driving around out there was unnecessary. My truck stayed in the garage from the time i checked in until the time I checked out 3 days later.

My friends and I went to San Diego for my birthday. We were not aware that this hotel as well as many others charges you for parking that they end up parking blocks away on public lots. The one time we asked to get our car because we wanted to go shopping outside of the Gaslamp district the valet man told us that if we did our parking spot was not guaranteed. I asked him what the point was of paying the 20 something dollars a day and he responded with "well you haven't been charged yet." I thought that was rude and unprofessional. We were stuck at Gaslamp all weekend because we didn't want to risk not being able to find parking when we got back. Also the day we were leaving the same man brought us our car and called us cheap! I have no idea why! I was in the midst of tipping him when he said that! This hotel lacks professionalism and respect for their guests. The toilet kept leaking, and the elevator broke down.

We stayed at this hotel for New Years and found out that they don't have enough parking to accomodate all of the hotel guests. We had to pay $30 at a parking structure several blocks away. No communication from hotel to arrive early in hopes of finding parking. And our "gaslamp" view... was of an alley. Hotel is historic and pretty, but no parking and a lousy view was so disappointing. I won't stay here again.

When compared to local hotels, this one for the price is just fine. Price was fair and the accomidations were acceptable. It's an OK place to stay and it's near shopping and restaurants.

We love the Horton Grand Hotel, location is close to Gaslamp and Seaport Village. Room and Hotel are of the old style hotels, clean spacious and comfortable. The room we had was modestly sized but comfortable with a fireplace and a balcony overlooking the courtyard. We didn't hear street noises, harbor or the transit lines (rail) once we were in our room. A taste of old San Diego.

Overall our stay was pleasant but if you have a room as we did facing the Fluxx nightclub you will not get much sleep . They did move us at 12:30 am after several rooms complained.

The hotel is great, but our balcony was directly above a bus stop ... a PARTY bus stop. Buses were dropping off and picking up nightclub patrons all night, every night, and they were laughing, talking, hollering and screaming well past 2am. I'll go back, and use this hotel again, but (a) I'll want an inside room and (b) I'll ask for different pillows (they weren't great - everything else was fine.)

I was on my way to San Diego to stay at the Horton Grand, but my purse was stolen a few hours before I was due to arrive, with all my ID, passport (I'm Canadian), money and credit cards. I called the Horton Grand to cancel my reservation, but they refused to budge on their cancellation policy. I understand their policy, but am very disappointed that they had no flexibility or compassion for the stressful circumstances. I will not be stying at the Horton Grand on future trips to San Diego.

I was bit by a spider 7 times... I called to advise the hotel and pretty much got blown off, so I left a message with the hotel manager and she still has yet to call me back...

The hotel was clean and the person who helped me was very nice. However, there were not many people staying there and it was pretty isolated and a little creepy. It has older furnishings although everything functioned fine.

This was a cute old hotel with great history. Rooms were smaller but plenty big, large bathrooms, fireplace, VERY clean, outdoor patio area downstairs and friendly, outgoing staff. Location was perfect. Gaslamp district 1 block away, convention center about 2 blocks, malls a mile away. Would deffinately stay here again.

clean and fairly comfortable. Bathroom TINY, and quite old fixtures. On premises restaurant never open during m 3 day stay. No free in room internet.

This historic hotel is located in the Gaslamp district and is within walking distance of many attractions. On the down side, the rooms are small and are not set up for the business traveller as there are extremely limited electrical outlets. This is not a hotel I would recommend to anyone travelling with any electrical conveniences.

A step back in time to a more elegant era. Though booked for a business stay, the history of the establishment, its amazing decor, and its convenient proximity to the Gaslight district with a pleasant walk to the waterfront attractions make this hotel irresistible - it was so much more than simply a generic place to sleep between meetings. Although San Diego is a good city to visit for many reasons, I find myself thinking of returning with another stay in this hotel being the main attraction!

The hotel is a great bargain for the price. The location is convenient to the convention center and shopping. Great staff. I would stay there again.

Washrooms in the rooms could use some spucing up. Also a little better maintance of the court yard and the tables and chairs.

The hotel has a great location located right in the heart of the Gaslamp District. Restaurants and bars all right around the corner. Parking was the only difficulty as waiting for someone to get or take your vehicle took as long as 45 minutes. The room itself had the feel of a very old fashioned apartment but with a quaint and charming flair to it. The rooms are small but cozy. It is a great change to the commercial hotels across the country.

A nice older hotel in the Gas Lamp District, but a little expensive for the area with less expensive Best Western and Comfort Inn's nearby that have the same or more ammenities.

Best you can say about this place is the location is great and the owners did a good job of restoration. Not all rooms have patios. Ours had a window that was so dirty you could not see out. Restaurant open only on weekends and only for breakfast [do not eat there]. Was not entirely disappointed for the price we paid and we did not spend much time in the hotel except to sleep. $25 per day for parking seemed a bit much.

I chose this option instead of the usual mega-resorts along the bay for two reasons. First, it's cheaper. Second, I wanted something less jet-set and relaxing. The Horton is a beautiful hotel from the outside. It is usually highlighted during the San Diego "bus" tours for it's ornate decorations (wrought-iron) and facade. At first, I thought this was authentic however when staying at the hotel, I learned that much of the facade and decorations were transplanted from a building that had in truth been torn down. Supposedly, a lot of this has been going on, i.e., not necessarily refurbishing an old place, but rather "transplanting" aspects to "newer" construction. That said, the place is unbelievably authentic. The transplanted interior/exterior brickwork and iron-works are amazing. I still believe this is a building that is over a century old. Staff was very friendly, though seemed a bit rushed between 10-noon. Off hours, very friendly and chatty. Coffee served in the lobby in the morning. No in-room coffee. Also, do call before arriving to see if the onsite restaurant is working. Cost-cutting has reduced their hours. Very comfortable room. Try for a room off the main street, or high up (4-5 floors) to get more quiet. Look for ghosts too.

I wanted to try a new hote I never stayed, so picked this one... the location is good, but everything else is just ok.. much prefer Indigo, which I could stay with a similar price. If not downtown, DoubleTree Mission Valley rocks!

The Horton Grand is not quite as nice or convenient as the Marriott but, it is very nice, less expensive and captures the real flavor of San Diego. It is located in the heart of the GasLamp district so, drink as much as you want! Parking was strictly valet and getting the car took awhile on a couple of occasions. Overall, outstanding value.

Seriously I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Gas lamp District in San Diego. Walking distance to Petco Park and it is surrounded by some AMAZING resturants. The staff was great and the room was charming. Just remember the parking will cost you. Ill be staying again!!!

People working front desk need to be nicer; & probably owners are the reason why.

We paid extra for the valet parking. Checked in and wanted to use the valet, but the valet said to just take a taxi to the wedding reception we were going to, that was 3 minutes away. Sounded like he didn't want to go get our car in a half hour to go to the wedding reception. We ended up taking two cabs and also paying for valet. That valet needs to be more helpful.

Location is unbeatable so close to all the bars and so much to do all with in walking distance. That is the highlight. The parking for $25 a day is a little outrageous. The maid service did a good job but the room was in need of updates. The tv was a zenith.. Do they even make zenith anymore? I think it was older than I am. It has a little charm with the antique almost spooky look but they would be able to modernize without sacrificing too much. The room was very basic no refrigerator no wireless Internet unless u paid but the bed was fairly comfortable. The restaurant inside is open for breakfast and as a bar at night, skip it all together the food was over priced and not good. Go to FIelds for breakfast and a good time in nightlife. It's in walking distance and the food and atmosphere are unbeatable. Overall if u need a place to keep your stuff while u are out on the town it would be ok. But if u want a good experience spend the extra 15 or 20 dollars a night and get a nicer hotel.

Perfect for gaslamp touring. Old style hotel in great condition at a great price. I recommend it to anyone.

This place is a bit weird. Very old fashion. Some say it is haunted, although I have not seen any ghost ;-). Good value for the price. Internet access cost extra, which always bugs me. The Starbucks nearby fixes that.
