This hotel is not clean. It was the last one with vacancies on this particular weekend, and when we got there, we could see why. I recommend this hotel if you are desperate, but other than a situation such as desperation, avoid it.

the hotel is nice and clean the only complant is their was not enough parking for the amount of guests and there was no refridger in the room

The worst place ever!! Not worth $20! Please do not waste your money! You will be very disappointed.

So this hotel only had two stars but it was a perfect fit for our stay since we were looking last minute on New Years Eve! Something inexpensive and close to the Boardwalk. There was a small mistake on our booking and we were upgraded to a larger room which we appreciated. Not as clean as it should have been and in need of some maintenance however we kind of expected that with a two star rating. We were just looking for a quick place to crash and it worked.

The innkeepers were rude. The carpet was dusty on the sides by the wall as if they did not use the extensions on the vaccuum cleaner.

front desk man not very friendly, up all night due to noice from people next door. walls very thin

This hotel was awful! The only good things were the indoor pool/spa and its proximity to the boardwalk. But it advertised free breakfast- NOT EXISTANT! Not even a continental breakfast. The beds were not only uncomfortable, but when we woke up in the morning we noticed the bed had bed bugs! SO GROSS! Also the room was very stuffy but the hotel has no A/C and the front window didn't open only the bathroom window did. We requested a fan and they gave us the equivelant of one of those hand held plastic fans from the dollar store. Not worth it no matter how much it cost!

It was too noisy for me, upstairs, the room to my right and my left, in front of the door, everything. Did not like it at all. However, I did have a place to stay for the night. For that it was fine.

Run down room with very old furniture, thick dust on curtains, dirty carpet and walls everywhere and peeling paint the bathroom. Sheets were clean but after about an hour sitting on the bed noticed a bed bug nymph crawling across the night stand. I know "my" bed bugs as I was introduced to them during my 5 year stay in Africa. We were out of there in a second!

The room was clean but missing a shower curtain and the pillows were flat and bed mattress uneven. You get what you pay for.

Grounds less than appealing. Clerk impossible to understand. Curtains and bedding-homemade TEDDY BEAR flannel!! Neighborhood iffy. Room was not unclean just in need of an update for about the last 10 years. Loved the huge spiderwebs between the screen and security bars.

Yes, the motel is old but works for the surrounding neighborhood. It was easy to get to and walking distance to Pacific Ave and the Catalyst Club. I was quite surprised when I walked into my room and it didn't have that "motel smell" like most older motels do. And equally surprised to find a second room in there with a double bed. I went by myself to meet friends for a show. But I would book a room there so me and my boys could hang at the boardwalk for a weekend. Go with low expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Convient location. Easy to get to main hightways and within walking distance to the Board Walk. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room was clean and service was good. No iron, refrigerator or micro in room. Skimpy on towels. Large clean indoor swiming pool. If you can't walk upstairs, ask for a first floor room, because there isn't an elevator. The neighborhood could be nosiy at times, i.e., barking dog. Pets are not allowed, but the neighborhood is near homes with pets. The price was very reasonable and overall we were satisfied with our room. We would stay at this hotel again.

deserves a 3.5 overall no internet service all though the promised it not as courtious as you would expect

Location was great but hotel room was dirty, windows didn't lock and heater didn't work. I also found out that I paid considerably more for the same room than the guest that reserved on site.

Very friendly, hospitable motel. Our stay was comfortable. The staff made sure to see to it that we enjoyed our stay.

Santa Cruz does a good job of keeping their city "old style California" with few chain restaurants and homoginized hotels. This Travelodge, though, is a little too old school for me. Loud, single pane windows, no AC, patched wallpaper, and carpet stains of dubious origin combine to make this a "meh" hotel, but with a pretty high price tag. It's really close to the Boardwalk and beach, though, so if you're okay with okay, this is probably the place for you.

This property is decent , the area has a few real bad properties within view.

I wanted an inexpensive motel within walking distance to the Boardwalk and downtown Santa Cruz. This fit the bill quite nicely. The walk was level and short and the street had little traffic. I didn't drive for all 3 days I was there. Plenty of options and a 7/11 at the corner. While I didn't have any kids, the indoor pool was a kid-fest, but it seemed to be fun and tire the kids out. I'm sure they sleep quitely. I suprisingly didnt hear a peep from anyone when I went to bed. The rooms were nice, but not fancy and didn't have any odor. Paint and asphalt were nicely maintained. There are fancier, but not with the same value for your dollar. I will return and do recommend.

Everything was good, as expected until the last night. As I was closing the shower curtain when I was sitting in the tub, the entire curtain AND rail fell down off the wall and hit me on the head. I seen that the hotel didn't have the railing screwed in tightly. For the price I paid I think the company could at least afford a screwdriver.

The hotel is in a convient location is you don't own a vehicle and are in Santa Cruz. For the same price and 15-20 minutes of driving you can find hotels that have significantly nicer facilites and more spacious rooms. We have stayed in at least a dozen hotels in downtown Santa Cruz and this one is in the middle as far as quality goes. THe only good thing is the location.

Upon arrival, I noticed that the one room was converted from a 2-room suite. The "front parlor" had horrible table and chairs and a "floating" headboard where a bed used to be. The TV was located here. The "back room" had the bed and no tv, so if you wanted to watch TV from bed, you were out of luck- you'd have to bring in your pillows and lay on the floor in the "parlor". The bathroom had towels as soft as sand paper. Over priced. I would never stay here again.....

My friend and I were just staying overnight, we reserved two queen beds. What a surprise when the beds were in separate rooms! The rooms were clean,microwave and fridge were included. The rate was great,a perfect weekend get-away. Will definitely go back.

I was a little worried about this hotel after I had committed to it on the phone with hotels.com. However, if your expectations are for a budget hotel without a lot of frills, then you will not be disappointed. We asked for a non-smoking room with two queen beds and that was what we got. It was a nice size room and had a larger than normal bathroom with a big window and a shower/tub combo. There was also a small refrigerator and a microwave. Our room did not have the odor of smoke as another review had mentioned; there was a cigarette ash container outside the door though, so if someone had chosen to smoke out there, it may have entered the room. There was no a/c but with the windows open, and because of mild July weather, that was not an issue during our stay. The hotel staff was professional but not overly friendly. The continental breakfast consisted of some cereal, coffee, milk, and sliced muffins. Again, not deluxe but better than nothing. There was an indoor pool but I did not go to the building where it was located to be able to tell you its condition. I was not disappointed in my stay because I had set my expectations low due to other reviews. I would stay here again if I was looking for a budget hotel that was in a good location.

This hotel sounded so much better online. They only give you one roll of toilet paper and very few towels. By the time you need more, the front desk is already closed, and no one is available to provide you with necessities you need. The owners are nosy, and attempt to charge you for frivolous things. Spending a few extra bucks at a better quality hotel would be well worth it.

The carpet turned our socks black in minutes. Bathroom sink was clogged, beds were Flinstone quality. I wish I could say we got what we paid for, but that room was overpriced.

We had to switch rooms after the first night because the main room bed felt like 2 box springs without a mattress and the bathroom smelled like old urine...so bad in fact that our 12 year old daughter refused to take a shower in it. The management staff obliged in switching us into another room where the bed and bathroom was better. The second room was positioned between two all night parties that went on until about 3 am. During check out, the day manager not only acknowledged that they knew the people that they had rented the rooms to, but that there were SEVERAL complaints about the noise, and that they would not be renting rooms to them in the future. Had we not paid for the rooms in advance, we would have checked out after the first night and stayed someplace else.

This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever !experienced. The only redeeming quality of this place is it's proximity to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and wharf. The bed was like a boat..way to soft. The electrical outlets were missing covers and had exposed live wires. The decor was early 80's ugly. On the walk to the Boardwalk, we noticed several other hotels that were probably price comparable. Do yourself a favor and research other places!

If your looking for a descent affordable hotel close to every thing with a nice heated pool then this is it....my twelve yr old and friend can walk safely to the boardwalk during the Day and its a 15 min walk out to the pier at night for great fishing i caught about 22 fish shinners, macriel , sardines, and a halibut.... i'll be back next year....

No complaints, a good value, less than a mile walk to beach and boardwalk.

And they just handed us a plunger and said we've been trying to get the maintenance guy here to fix it all week. Really??

Hotel was fine for the price. Would definielty stay again

This hotel is conveniently located, but was disappointing in that the bathroom floor and carpets were quite dirty, paint was peeling, bathroom paint was shabby, outside 2nd floor steel railings were poorly repaired with wire, the pillows were terribly flat, and the night person was not very friendly in the way that he told us there was no complimentary toothpaste (we'd forgotten ours).

From the start it was not a good experience. Hotels.com advertise and show a picture of a beautiful heated indoor pool, but at check-in was told it was closed for the unforseen future. The guy at check-in was not friendly. Other than location (and there were plenty of other options) this was the primary reason we chose this place, so my son and I could swim. The room smelled of cat urine! The pillows were as flat as pancakes and the bathroom sink had some kind of permanent glue gunk all over it. The bathtub and toilet were badly chipped. The only positives were it was a good size room and not too noisy outside...just the elephant feet thumping around upstairs.

Appreciate that this is a budget hotel but having stayed in numerous Travelodges here in Uk + motels in USA we were expecting a less grotty hotel. Facilities & location were what we expected for the money but there was an overall appearance and perception that this was a sadly neglected hotel which had the potential to offer more including at least a helpful "mine host"! Finally, be wary of the paper thin walls!

First they wanted an extra $1.50/day for a tax. Then they wanted to clean only every other day. Oh and the free wi-fi in public areas? It is 1 router on the front desk like you would buy for your home. There are no indoor seating areas so unless your room happens to be close enough to the office, you have to stand or sit outdoors - in a place where it rains every other other day. And once there are 3 or 4 people trying to use iut at once, it goes up and down like a yo-yo and becomes unusable. No frig or fan or a/c in room. Bathroom door wouldn't even latch, let alone lock. Pay a few extra bucks and stay somewhere else - I have been very satisfied with the Ocean Pacific Lodge at comparable prices.

The cleaning people did not service my room, which meant I ran out of paper cups before the end of my stay, and nearly ran out of shampoo. The internet connection was wildly unreliable. It would work fine for two or three minutes, then the base station would disassociate me and I wouldn't be able to reconnect to it for... well, as long as several hours. It made the worst trade show network connection I've seen seem reliable by comparison. The office doesn't open until 8, which means that breakfast doesn't begin until 8. That's bad if you have to be across town at 8:30. I ended up driving downtown and eating. Room 127 is not well sealed. I'm not sure where the cigarette smoke was coming in, but there were several periods where it was so pervasive that I had to leave. The first night, I didn't sleep most of the night because a bunch of drunk college kids were making so much noise. The second night, I dug up some earplugs. I don't blame them, though. Most of this was the hotel's fault because of poor construction. The doors make *very* loud noises when you shut them, the walls are paper thin, the ceiling doubly so, and my room was inside this closed-in concrete area that reflected every little sound. And the door is paper thin, too. The echo outside sounds like a gunshot when you flip the safety latch across and it hits the back of your door. The result is that it doesn't take much at all to disturb your neighbors. And the hotel rooms are impossible to darken suitably. There's a night light on one light switch that's bright enough to read by, and the curtains don't adequately seal off the light from the parking lot (which is so bright that when I woke up in the middle of the night, I thought it was morning, and continued to think that even after looking out through the peephole). Finally, when I checked in, they asked for a credit card "for imprint". Then, they proceeded to charge me an additional fee for checking in on top of the price I had already paid for the

I don't think they were bedbugs but my husband and I both got some kind of vivious bites from sleeping at this Travelodge. We're still itching a week after our stay -

We paid ahead on hotels.com yet never parked our car. The hotel and surrounding area are very ghetto.
