Very convenient location. Friendly staff. Well priced.You'll want to eat out for breakfast though but near lots of options.

This is an older motel, but it's been updated and is just fine with microwave, refrigerator and wi-fi.

It was just okay. The rooms could use a face lift along with the bathroom. The Continential Breakfast was pretty weak, watered down oj. No toaster for toast. The maid service was very nice and attentive. Location was very good.

I Stayed at this same hotel when it was the travelodge and the stay was overall okay. But this time around with the new ownership my stay was HORRIBLE! I booked two rooms. One of the rooms had hardwood floors and it was okay, the second room had carpeting and the smell coming from the carpet was rancid! We had to request another room, that's how bad the smell was. We had a few guests visiting and the front desk clerk called to inform me there are no visitors allowed on the premises. I later found out they charged me $10 per person. We also tried to extend the checkout by one hour, but to no surprise they wanted to charge an extra $10!! The front desk was just plain rude...horrible service. Needless to say I will NEVER book here again.

Good place to stay for the $$. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly, professional and came over right away to fix the shower handle. The room was nothing fancy but seemed clean and was very quiet. Had a microwave, blow dryer, fridge and coffee pot...that's a plus. Would stay here again.

The hotel rate was good as well as closeness to the center of town. However, the room only had a shower, noise was heard easily, and my room wasn't very clean. The continental breakfast was only a choice of 2 cereals, toast, juice and coffee right next to the reception desk with no place to eat!!

Good front desk staff and good room for the price.

We got what we paid for a clean simple room for a low price. It was perfect we will probably stay again

Good if your not hanging out at the hotel. The entire place smelled old and musky. Luckily just needed a cheap room to crash in for the night. Old and very outdated. Though they did have wi-fi and cable. Glad I wasnt wanting to hang out in the hotel and relax, because it was hot even with the a/c on.

This hotel was fine for the price. No frills but a close walk to downtown.

i recommend you dont stay on the bottom floor, was kept up all night by the upstairs people walking all night, walls arent very thick. also, the comforter had very many cigarette holes and theres no smoking in the rooms.

This was my first time in Santa Cruz and everyone I consulted had nothing but negative things to say about the hotels in the area so I was not expecting much. The location is fantastic, less than a mile from downtown and coast. The breakfast was simple and the staff pleasant enough. Times are hard so don't expect comforts such as trash-can liners or drawers with knobs. All-in-all, I really enjoyed my time and a great last-minute rate.

I dont understand why the owner would not invest in fixing up the property...I dont mind staying there, it's very safe and quiet place to sleep.

We got to the room early and the maid was washing the floors,removing the bedding and getting the bathroom ready. She had the room totally clean. The room is very large. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Hotel was excellent for the price!

The location is very close to beaches, downtown Santa Cruz and several good restaurants. The hotel staff were helpful and cheerful. The rates are excellent. Bed was comfortable. Bath linens were thin and somewhat worn.

I was woken at 2am by people talking loudly outside my room....and then was entertained my neighbors getting it on. In the morning, I walked out of my room at 10am to my neighbor pounding on his door to be let in with a beer in his hand.... The shower head was low (I am 5'8") - I had to bend over to wash my hair. Good price though. It was also nice the windows opened. I didn't go down for breakfast so no comments there.

Got there late at night, guy came out after a few minutes of a break which was fine, given the fact that he worked the next 16 hours by himself. He was nice, not very friendly but let us keep our room for two nights so I only booked the first night on accident, and when trying to book another days later said it was unavailable. Got to our room easy enough, easy access to ice and vending machines. Room was clean bed was nice, stocked bathroom and coffee machine which I always take advantage of. Walls are a bit thin, and I could hear someones TV through the walls for a while very clearly, and some people talking[this was around 1 am] which was OK since we stayed up a bit but disturbing if I needed to sleep immediately. Woke up to a small breakfast of cereal, OJ and coffee and went back to sleep. Did not spend much time there the next day except on the way back and slept well each time[though drunk both times so that helps]. Would recommend for a nice cheap hotel across the bridge from down town and a nice walk from the beach.

me and my boyfriend were spending a date night in santa cruz and we did not want to spend the majority of hour money on an expensive hotel...after reading the reviews, i was skeptical about the cleanliness of the room and especially the bed (bed bugs). but my boyfriend and i checked out the bed for any pests and there were none the room was clean..the bathroom looked okay...the toilet paper looked scrunched up but i think they did that on purpose for decoration...anyways, the room was clean, convenient, and cheap...the people who gave bad reviews either had bad luck or were not looking closely enough at the hotel they were choosing...i would recommend people to stay here for those short vacations

I had stayed here a few years back and figure it would be fine as the location is really good. Boy was I wrong...the pillows were so bad, the bed felt dirty and when I went to close the curtain I noticed that there was blood on them. Well I can't confirm it was blood but it just looked red and disgusting. Yes the price wasn't bad but I so didn't have a good night sleep.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and never had a serious problem, it is conveniently located and competatively priced. However, this last trip we found a significant infestation of bed bugs (we actually saw them - and looked them up on the internet - so they were real). The unfortunate thing was tha we only discovered them at 2:00 am on our second night stay, so there was a possibility that they had worked into our luggage. So besides having to go find somewhere else to stay at 2:00 AM, we had to have all of our clothes cleaned & dry cleaned when we got home, this also included drycleaing cost for some clothing gifts that I had bought during the visit. I would stay away from this place until they do a through de-bugging, and can demonstrate that the place is clean.

The curtains were shredded and the bedding was filthy! Yuck!

We coulda gone a bit cheaper, but we were sick of the inevitable grodiness of those motels. So we paid a bit more and were rewarded with a place that was a bit nicer. A decent clean room, nothing to complain about. Convenient location (walked to dinner and breakfast). You can hear neighbors outside, but that's the price of a motel, right? Would definitely stay there again.

This was a last minute trip to Santa Cruz, live in the Monterey Bay are so wasn't expecting much. Check in went great, great front desk staff. Once we got into the room, we noticed a large spider (looked poisonous) so we called the front desk clerk and he gladly moved us to a new room which upon inspection, looked fine for the night, no more spiders. Great location for dining, shopping, or shows.

The office staff were friendly and the room was fine, with a firm comfortable bed. The walls were thin enough, that the hall way noises, until the wee hours on a Saturday Night, were disturbing. I needed to extend my check out time until 2:45 pm, which they did for me for an additional fee.

Nice hotel, near downtown. Homeless population in SC is a disaster and they are not friendly. Looks like Mad Max down there. Hotel was nice though and it was what I needed.

Well located, decently maintained, however the shower was pretty sad

Musty smell. Beds comfortable and did have microwave and small fridge, but room was a little seedy.

We had an excellent stay at the Oceana Hotel. It was convenient, the service was excellent and the location was perfect for us. We were taking our grand-daughter to UC Santa Cruz.

I continental breakfast was not quite what I expected.

the tv was good with all the chanels ,the bed is great me and my girfriend stay for two nigts i just have a great time .

I read one of the other reviews that said this hotel only had one TV channel. That person doesn't know how to use satellite TV. There are plenty of channels. The bed was decent enough. The towels did have a yellow tinge to them. But the front desk people were super friendly and I felt safe having my convertible parked in the parking lot over night.

Basic. Staff not very helpful

Just perfect!!! Great service, amazing rooms! Good location.

It was clean, comfortable and quite adequate. It was close to beach and downtown. Breakfast was a little disappointing, but all in all, it was a good investment.

The boyfriend and I were in town for the World Disc Golf Championships and we returned to our new "usual" the Oceana for a few nights. This is not a luxury hotel but if you are looking for a place to sleep at night and shower at in the morning while you are out and about in Santa Cruz I highly recommend it. Nothing fancy, but the location is great with easy access to downtown, the Boardwalk, and the freeways. Staff is courteous, rooms are basic, parking lot is well lit and feels safe, and price is right for a cheap place to stay while enjoying "the Cruz". Cons- Don't expect much from the continental breakfast. Rooms are very basic, this is not a place for a luxury stay Pros- Location, price, convenience
