The Heathman was a GREAT hotel! The hospitality from all of the staff was beyond generous. Extremely helpful! The decor was fabulous with pop-inspired art work.

Very enjoyable.

A classic in downtown Portland, but with all the up to date amenities. The room was very nicely laid out and appointed, even though it was of modest size. We listened to jazz in the lounge, and enjoyed free wine tasting in the hotel's library of nearly 3000 books, each of which was written by a former guest and most of which were signed. There is a fully certified librarian who can tell you all the stories of the authors' stays at the hotel. Truly a delight. The only negatives had to do with how long it took to get served in the lounge and the restaurant, but I believe these were just momentary glitches. We will definitely return to the Heathman on our next trip to Portland.

Everything was great about our stay except in the morning. While we were sleeping housekeeping kept trying to come in (probably tried 3 times between 8am and 10am). We had to keep going to the door and letting them know we were sleeping even when our door was locked and sign up. Otherwise the hotel was beautifl, really convient, and staff was great.

I highly recommend the Heathman. Great staff, luxurious rooms with super comfortable beds. Don't miss the chocolatier/ espresso bar in the corner of the lobby! The sipping chocolate is out of this world and the coffee is top notch. I hear the restaurant in the hotel is really good, but we walked to Higgins up the street and were absolutely blown away there! The location of the Heathman is perfect. Only a short walk to fantastic shopping including the famous Powells Bookstore!

Our room was not spacious, but that is the only negative thing we could say about our stay at The Heathman. Every detail in the room, from the quality of the tea to the nightlight under the bathroom mirror was wonderful. It is located just 3 blocks from Nordstroms and 1/2 mile from the Pearl District. The staff was very attentive. We would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.

The Heathman was a wonderful experience. Centrally located, superb services. The room was a little tight but the bed was wonderful!

Tried this hotel for something new. As a frequent hotel guest (50-75 nights/year at hotels, mostly 4+ stars), I offer the following feedback: great beds, good downtown location and nice evening ambience in the lounge. Nicely renovated historic hotel. Drawbacks: no view (just buildings), no parking (expensive valet), no pool, and smallish rooms. We booked 2 nights at this hotel after reviewing its ratings. Apparently, this hotel had some mention in a popular novel, never a great way to pick a hotel.) Online booking stated it included parking but we were charged for 2 nights parking (plus a room upgrade). Took me an hour or more to access my email to prove to the disbelieving manager that the parking was included to get a credit on my bill. Would have expected to be believed (or that hotel would know their own offers), or that I would have received a credit for a room upgrade due to the hassle and time it took me to prove that our rate included parking. Got the credit for the parking, but unfortunately this soured the experience so service gets a lower rating. . Overall, a good hotel, probably best for couples, but traveling with kids, we will stay at the nearby Westin next time where we are Starwood members.

We met our friends who flew in from Las Vegas for a quick visit. The hotel is in great physical shape, and all staff people had such pride in their hotel. We booked Renaissance Suite rooms, which have two baths. The rooms were very comfy and well-appointed. The dining room was also excellent and took care in particular of one member who was a vegan with no problem. We also enjoyed delicious cups of hot chocolate from CACAO by the fire in the tea room area.

Good thing about this hotel is the location and it has a semi-important landmark situation (I don't understand why). Bad things are: rooms are not clean, some of them smell really bad, rooms are very small, everything looks old (maybe that's the charm) and the bed was super uncomfortable (others might like it but I couldn't sleep most of the night). I stayed in another hotel last year in the same neighborhood that is 30-40% cheaper with overall better quality and more comfortable rooms. I would be OK with this room if I paid 50% of what I paid, but for that price level I expect more.

Have staying before, but in what seemed like a much larger room. Sink in bathroom was almost too small to wash hands!!! BUT overall we were very pleased to stay in Heathman again. Restaurant and hotel might communicate better. We foolishly assumed that guests of hotel could be assured a spot for breakfast - no.

Most comfortable hotel in Portland, with a great location and superb service.

The best part of the stay was meeting the hotel librarian. She hosts a wine tasting for hotel guests. The library showcases books written only by authors who have stayed at the hotel. It was truly the highlight of the trip to meet her and learn more about this unusual feature of the hotel. Plus the books are available for loan to hotel guests.

The Heathman has long been my favourite in the Portland area. It’s lovely, well appointed, centrally located. In my many stays at the Heathman I have come to note that the rooms vary in size. Some are quite large while others can be small but the amenities are the same. The service is outstanding and the hotel staffs make every effort to make your stay pleasant.

Loved everything, the staff are top notch, the location is great, the restaurant is absolutely fabulous. The room we had was a bit small, but you can change that by upgrading your room, which is what my wife and I will do next time.

Stayed here many times,great location,excellent bar and restaurant.

Only problem is the gym needs a rethink. Too small with no free space or free weights. Staff was exceptional.

My sister and I ( two old ladies) enjoyed the restaurant which served excellent food, and were especially impressed with the friendly and helpful service. Our only gripe was a wish that the bathroom vanity lighting had been better. Great little hotel.

It was our first visit to Portland, and we wanted a centrally-located base from which to explore. This hotel was perfect: the staff were eager to answer our questions and we were within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to see and do. The restaurant and bar in The Heathman are top-notch. We stayed there for two of our suppers despite wanting to check out different eating places. The cost was a splurge for us, but we felt that we got good value.

We were comfortable every minute we were in the Heathman's care. Every hotel should aspire to this level of perfection.

IT WAS PLEASANT AND BEAUTIFUL.

A classic landmark, maintained and sustained by a wonderful staff of highly motivated individuals with a common goal: the finest customer service(s) for their guests. True, the legacy of literary giants who have stayed and left their autographed works is impressive, but this is a living work of art- a truly comfortable sanctuary, with impeccable ambience, delightful restaurant (including great live jazz on the weekend). We'll be back, gladly!

Perfect

Location was the reason this hotel was chosen with comfortable walking distances to the Pearl, waterfront , downtown or cultural. Cleanliness of room was very good with in room french press with Peet's coffee or tea with electric kettle, as well as a stocked bar, updated daily. Liked the convenience of 2 sinks, 1 outside the tub/toilet area. Lighting for makeup was not to my liking. Staff is amazing with knowledge of area whether for driving, restaurants or out of the way locations for something to do, as the Columbia Gorge was smokey due to recent oregon fires

Loved The Heathman! It's a great hotel in a great location. I travel for business and normally stay in the typical hotel chains (Marriott, Hilton, etc.), but I am so glad I selected this hotel for a leisure trip. It's very clean and luxurious and the staff is very polite, efficient and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. I personally liked the L'Occitane shampoo and soaps.
