Building was interesting. My room was kind of nasty, old, and dingy feeling, whic is unfortunate. I was really looking forward to staying in this historic building.

this is a great hotel for service, room comfort and amenities. Would recommend it to anyone

This is my 3rd stay at Camino Real Hotel, good service. A little disappointed at the up keep of the Hotel, I love historical buildings. And hope that there is an improvement on the entire hotel on my next visit. Please repair exercise equipment, my husband will return if satisfied with weight facility, all woodwork in rooms and interior of hotel needs polish and staff should not overlook such details, historical buildings should be carefully maintained.

Nice stay, the only thing I didn't like was the $150 deposit held during check in.

A reasonable rate but lacking a lot of needs for the business traveler. Most hotels today have flat screen t.v.'s, the El Camino still has old t.v.'s. The shower took forever to warm-up. In the business center, only 1 of the 2 computers worked. The hotel does not have wireless, as far as I can tell. An old hotel that looks impressive from the outside but simply lacks conveniences you'd want for a longer stay. I was only there 1 night. I'm not sure if I would stay there again, a tough call.

We have stayed here and this time it was clean and more comfortable. We were in town for a show that was across the street, and the hotel location was very convenient. We got to the hotel late in the afternoon and our room was not ready. The hotel clerk offered another room, but as we declined that offer, he was so gracious and apologetic. He found us a room as we had requested. It was clean and very comfortable. We will probably stay here again.

Very classy hotel. Our stay was very pleasant. The room was very clean and best of all, quiet. Other reviews commented on the outdated furniture. The furniture just added to the mystique of an historic hotel. As far as the bathroom being outdated, the showerhead had a small leak but the water was very hot and powerfull. The swiming pool is old but very clean. There is a top notch exercise room. If you go make sure to include the excellent breakfast buffett as it is well worth it. If I had one issue it was that even though you are staying at the hotel you are charged a daily parking fee. I have stayed at similar hotels for twice the money and was not near as satisfied. I will recomend this hotel to friends and will return.

The bad first: We had booked and paid for a Deluxe King and was given a regular Queen room. Don't know if they were trying to pawn it off on us hoping we didn't notice, but quickly exchanged rooms for what we paid for. For some reason, this hotel does NOT like to give out wash cloths. It was almost funny how you have to beg for and stash them so you have them. The good: Very clean, lovely architecture, great bar, good feel, great area, free parking below ground. Felt safe and secure. Friendly staff. All around awesome experience! Not your run of the mill chain hotel at all! Classy and affordable.

This hotel is very old and not updated at all. The location was ideal for us. The beds were old and soft. The housekeeping department was courteous and replaced an ancient blow dryer immediately. I would not give this hotel a three and a half star rating.

The hotel was clean and well lit. However, the area in downtown El Paso leaves something to be desired as it is run down and grungy. Did not feel comfortable walking around outside after dard. Probably would not stay there again due to the location. If downtown El Paso were renovated and well lit, it would be ok but the shops/stores all closed around 6 pm and they all had bars on the windows and many homeless people were wondering around the area.

I made a mistake when booking resulting that my actual reservation was made for the NEXT day (I arrived a little past midnight). The front desk was very accommodating at fixing it, the room was very nice, I liked the fact that you have underground parking, very secure! I would recommend this hotel. It looks nice and the price through Hotels.com was really affordable!

2nd time i have stayed at this place was very pleased with the room the staff,especilly the lady who cleaned my room was very helpful and verry polite.Hope to go back soon!!!

I booked this after reading all the reviews. They were all pretty much correct. I was looking for a place close to the Plazza and this is it. The bad things: linen cleaned but had a stain. Bathroom had hair in the bathtub and fixtures were old and need updating. I dont think the ac was working, but we just openned the windows so wouldnt recommend this place during the summer. Breakfast was pretty blah, hate scrambled eggs on a warmer. Fruit was good. Great location, right across the street from the Plaza. No problems parking. We went to the bar and they were featuring a very good live band. The dome is gorgeous! It rates pretty much what it is, so for the price it was ok. I wouldnt recommend it to my friends, but for a quick night like a show at the plazza it was fine.

it was a great hotel with nice staff. only real complaint was the bathroom was very dirty. the room and hotel as a whole was awesome. OH, AND BRING YOUR LAPTOP, TV SUCKS. :)

This was my 2 stay at this hotel. I love it. it is really quiet has clean rooms and friendly employee, also they have a live band every weekends.

I always look forward to staying in this historic hotel. The common areas downstairs are beautiful and its difficult to stay at Camino Real without mentioning the fabulous Dome Bar. My only complaints focus were in relation to the rooms. When I walked in I noticed that it didn't look like anyone had vacuumed the air vent in a while. Another problem with the rooms were the bathrooms, at least it was for my room. The pink tile has been scuffed and stained over the years enough that it made me feel like I was walking on a dirty floor. I know that it wasn't dirty but I found myself not wanting to walk on the floor barefoot.. The shower was not as hot nor did it have enough pressure for my tastes but overall my stay was very pleasant. I will stay there again.

Was treated with disrespect for booking online. When I booked there before directly with the hotel I received much better treatment. I was asked twice about the website I used to book the room.

The Camino Real is not updated, old and rusty fixtures and the front desk staff are not helpful. Could not even provide change when I paid in cash.

The hotel entry is still pristine & breath taking. It feels dark & gloomy, however, like an old haunted hotel. The rooms are obviously so old that they cannot get sparkling clean. My husband worked at the hotel as a teenager 20 years ago, & he recognized the furniture in the rooms!!! This hotel could be the pride of El Paso, if it didn't feel so desolate. So sad.

The service once in the room lacked from getting to speak to someone (could not place a call to any service in the hotel) to the quality of the movies (screen was dark) and room service(lack of personnel?)

I really enjoyed my stay. The room was comfortable and somewhat dated. The best bed I have ever slept in on the road. I will go back but I hope they do a better job cleaning the bathroom floor and do some updating.

This hotel was conveniently located to the Plaza Theatre where we went and saw Wicked. Additionally, it is very close to several great restaurants. Afterwards, we hung out in the Dome Bar, and it was very fun. They had a great live band, and the atmosphere was great. The room was very clean and comfortable...The tv is small, but we didn't watch it much. The bed was very comfortable and delivered a great night's rest after a busy day and evening...Nice and quiet considering its location downtown.

Hotels.com booked the worst, oldest, most outdated room in the building....would not recommend.

I have grown up in El Paso my whole life. Looked forward to renting a room at the Camino Real. I rented it the night of the Christmas Parade. Thinking it was be a treat for my family to see the parade then stay at a nice hotel. Wrong. It was not as nice as I imagined it would be. I have paid less at other hotels that were nicer and did not have great reputations. I was very disappointed. Looking at saying somewhere else next years parade.

I wish El Camino Real had not been so disappointing. I wanted to love this beautiful old place for my huge corner room and spectacular round lobby bar with its Tiffany ceiling, Unfortuately, it felt more like the vacant, unstaffed lodge from The Shining than a glorious old hotel. Calls to room service were completely unanswered. An attempt to contact the front desk left me listening to the line ring over 20 times before I hung up. The wonderful old bar is still standing but smells like stale beer and has a TV blaring the current football game with no one watching. Once I finally reached a real human and was served a very mediocre dinner in my enormous,underfurnished room, my dinner tray sat outside my room for almost a full day. I called roomservice to retrieve it. No one came. Housekeeping came and went yet the tray stayed. On the positive side,my room was clean as was the rest of the hotel. I had business downtown and walked to my appointment. However,downtown is mostly as sad and desolate as the hotel. Maybe some revitalization can turn things around. Until then, stay somewhere else.

I am originally from El Paso, TX. I lived in a downtown area as a kid and would always see this hotel (on the outside). I knew it was nice. We went to visit my family for Christmas and decided to stay here. To my surprise, it was a gorgeous, 4 star quality hotel! The inside is extremely clean and luxurious. They have a bar with a Tiffany's dome that is aclaimed to be one of the top 10 bars in the world. The room was very spacious and clean. The only complaints is that the shower head is old and the water pressure was very low. The tv also had very poor reception. We had cable but it looked like we were watching a tv with the old antenna ears. It is located right off the freeway and the main civic center. The downtown El Paso area at night is very quiet. All the business close at night so it's sort of a "ghost area". I would definitely stay at this hotel again! It must be good enough for stars too since I heard Shakira stayed at this hotel when she was on her tour!

The room was so hot, we could not sleep. The maintenance people were unable to do anything about it as it is a single pipe system and the hotel does not have AC once the heat is turned on. The windows are nailed shut (due to security reasons according to the maintenance people) and we could not open to allow some cool air into the room. I would never stay at this hotel again. The new Doubletree will be my next selection.

-Toilet was not clean on the inside, talked to front desk and got it cleaned. -Thermostat did not work properly, room was stuffy, windows did not open. -TV had a clitch cause it was not showing all the channels. -Hotel is nice but still needs some minor improvements.

On 12/29/01 My wife and I were married and had our reception and dance at this very hotel, it was knowen for its charm, elegance and butty, what 10 years does to a place, this hotel after further investigation from me did not host the players for the Sun Bowl game this year upkeep was the reason. Our room was very big with a TV that Im sure was over 15yrs old 24" furniture was scratched and worn and even with that we were ok. The problem comes when you go into the rest room , the floors were filthy and had some grit or sand all over it even on the towels themselves. The water when opened had to be run for several minutes the water was BROWN samething with the shower Horribale will not reccommend this hotel until the upkeep is done.

It was 12:00 am, all I wanted to do is get some sleep. The heater would not operate my room was an ice box. contacted front desk about problem, they sent maintenance man to repair at midnight. Took him over 45 minutes to find problem all this time he was in my room trying to repair and I couldn't get any sleep. I finally got feed up and called front desk for another room. After some explaining of why I needed another room , they gave to me. New room, again problem wit heater system too loud. I didn't get any sleep. I will not stay there again, hotel is too old needs major attention.

I had a smooth check in but wasn't reminded of the room deposit or the check out time. It would have been nice for the heater to be turned on however once we realized the AC was still on someone quickly came to fix it. Unfortunately the room didn't heat up at all. We were offered another room or a space heater but it was our personal choice to just stay in the room for the night. We had plenty of blankets. There was a nightclub or bar somewhere nearby because the people laughing and having fun could be heard in our room that was on the 5th floor. Considering the well kept lobby, bar and restaurant the rooms were very dated which was kind of a disappointment. Yes the main reason we stayed there was because it was an older hotel however the bedding and lack of a nice floor in the bathroom was a downer. Not the best place I have stayed at but hardly the worst. For the amount they charge for the rooms it would have been nice to see some renovated rooms with more modern day amenities. Pleasant staff and plenty of parking for a a small fee.
