Bed on this floor was very uncomfortable We have stayed at this hotel before and the beds on the higher floors are good

I make it a point of staying here whenever I travel to the city. This is a great hotel at an affordable price. The rooms were clean, service was outstanding and the convenience was great. I strongly recommend this hotel to travelers.

Very close to Union Square and across from the luxurious Westin St Francis Hotel. Great shopping area and handy to all kinds of transportation. The restaurant in the hotel, the Farfallon, is an upscale eatery with a very unique decor. Plus there is a theater in the building on the 2nd floor for live theater productions. We ate at the restaurant which was very good, but didn't make it to the theater, on our to do list next time. Close to too many things to mention, check it out!

My husband and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary and the Kensington Hotel helped make great memories for us. We loved the historic aspect and the comfortable feel of the hotel. When we visit SanFrancisco again, we will stay at the Kensington.

Had a great time at Kensington Park Hotel. Room was comfy, and especially loved the faux mink throws on the beds. Staff was friendly and helpful, and laceration was near trolley route.

The Kensington Park's excellent location and comfortable rooms should be attractive to SFO visitors on business or leisure travel. Room was fairly large, quiet and clean, but there are a few drawbacks--shower only--no tub; no refrigerator or mini-bar, though there is ice conveniently offered. Also, though CNN is supposed to be available, it's not, and staff could not seem to believe that the TV offerings are not at all as stated. Same with a brief wi-fi outage, as well as phone buttons for hotel services. Things that don't work remain...things that don't work, after lengthy, polite chats. There'a an entrance to the araine Hansberry Theatre through the hotel, as well as an Elks Lodge, Elks Squash Courts and Elks Spa. Not called a "Personality Hotel" without good reason.

Enjoyed the convenient location - easy access to all the great spots in downtown SF. There were some great busking musicians in Union Square in the evenings, and a fantastic trumpeter played us to sleep every night (weather was beautiful so we kept the window open). The 2am garbage trucks so many others have commented on were annoying, but that's how it works there - no blame to the hotel. We found it very quaint and historic - we got off the elevator at every floor to see the ballroom, Elks lodge facilities, theater, etc. When we got back to the room on our last night our key had been deactivated but the quick trip back to the front desk was not really a big bother. Enjoyed our stay!

We found the hotel to be in a great position right accross from Union Square, easy to pick up hop on hop off bus. The hotel has querky art deco feel, really nice decor. Joshua at front desk very helpful and remembered us by name which was a nice touch. We were in room 40 on the 8th Floor at the back of hotel which reduced the noise which was a good tip from previous trip adviser. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to our friends.

This hotel is in a great location. Easy walk to trolley, double decker bus located across st. Front desk always very helpful and most pleasant. Rooms clean and plenty of towels in bathroom. I,also, felt very safe in this location.

All staff was so friendly and accomodating, charming hotel centrually located. 3 blocks from Bart station and two blocks from bus to take you to Fishermans Wharf. Great little cafe two doors down. Westfield mall 2 blocks away. Would stay again.

Great location and nice size rooms for SF. Staff very helpful. Room location on back side of hotel very quiet and had nice view of the Mark Hopkins up the hill. Bed comfortable. Only downside was very limited selection of channels on TV and 2-3 channels they claimed to have were not working.

Perfect location, nice staff, but the hotel was very old and not kept up well. We had a little fridge thrown on the middle of the room, and it made my college dormroom fridge look nice. Also, the rust in the bathroom appliances (tub and sink) didn't make it feel like a nice boutique hotel. I would still recommend the hotel as the location can't be beat.

The hotel was in a perfect location, close to Union Square and many restaurants. We enjoyed the intimate and cozy ambience. Our only concern (our room being on the busy street side) was outside noise and lack of air conditioning. The bathroom sink/vanity was very low as well, but the bathroom itself was roomy and very clean. Service was excellent, with a personal touch. We would return.

I've stayed in several boutique hotels over the years. I enjoy their personality and charm ..... when they're preserved and/or remodeled with dignity. The Kensington Park Hotel is by far the nicest boutique hotel I've had the pleasure of staying in. Located steps from Union Square and the Powell Street cable car, it offers reasonably sized rooms, very comfortable beds, and updated larger sized bathrooms (by SF standards). I will definitely stay there on my future trips to San Francisco.

Had a great stay here. We were able to check in early, as well as moving to a higher floor with a view. We had not stayed near Union Square before, it is a great area.

Convenient location next to Union Square, in walking distamce from north beach (Italian restaurants), China town, financial district, and of course the large department stores, art galleries and small restaurants around the corner. The hotel is old. But rooms nice and clean, friendly staff, and valet parking comes in comparisom at an affordable price. Would go again. Great price value ration. In particular as neighbouring 4-5 star hotels can be rip offs.

This hotel was beautiful and my room was so comfortable and very tastefully decorated. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. One of the best hotels I have stayed at in the US.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Kensington Park Hotel. Great downtown location - close to the Trolley and BART - and Union Square. Staff were very accomodating - and directed us to several great downtown restaurants. Ice water in the lobby was a nice touch - and the computers in the business room were most helpful. For our next trip to SF, we will be staying at the Kensington!

We stayed at the Kensington Park Hotel in July, 2011. We found the staff eager to help, the room clean and comfortable, and the lobby charming and welcoming. The afternoon tea and sherry in the lobby was a lovely way to greet exhausted travelers. Staying on the sixth floor on the street side, we had no problem with street noise. The only minus was having a 30 minute wait for our car after notifying the valet. To their credit, they warned us this would be the wait to expect when we checked in. A little planning, though, can make this still work. We would definitely stay at the Kensington again!

Wonderful hotel in a great location. HOWEVER, needs a better selection of TV channels. Some of us don't appreciate only receiving FOX. And how about AMC for Mad Men and Breaking Bad. Comedy Channel missing also. Outside of that, no complaints whatsoever. In this day and age, carry a full cable spectrum please.

Our recent stay at the Kensington Park Hotel was perfect for our 3-day stay in San Francisco. It was only 4 blocks to the Powell St. station, so we could take BART from the airport and use all modes of transportation (cable car, MUNI, streetcar) to get around the city. The hotel was clean, rooms nice and the staff helped us with advice on getting around the city.

Hotel and staff were friendly. Hotel is quite dated and my bathroom showed signs of wear over the years. Bathroom also had beard trimmings all over the sink and adjacent shelves. It appeared that the sink had not been cleaned. I reported the incident but all I got from the front desk clerk was that they would leave a note for houskeeping. I was not offered another room nor was my bathroom cleaned of the hair. My room had no air conditioning and was very stuffy. Valet/parking service was difficult - we ended up parking in a garage around the corner and schlepped our luggage to the hotel. I made this hotel recommendation to my customers and was extremely embarrassed. The value for the price paid was quite low in my opinion.

I took two 15 year old girls with me on this trip, and location and convience was everything. This hotel had it, although a small room for three it worked fine. There are affordable restrant's around the hotel just look, and a wonderful coffee house three doors down: best latte i have ever had and great breakfast. I can not say enough about this location not only is it in Union Square and convient to everything it is on the quiet side of the square. We will be staying again for sure. Oh yea really cute hotel with very comfy beds and staff is supper friendly and knowledgable. The price makes you fell satisfied.

Our stay at the Kensington Park Hotel was great! It was conveniently located for all of the activities we wanted to do. The staff was helpful, and extremely friendly. The hotel did seem rather empty, but that was all the better for us! The beds were comfortable, and the water pressure in the shower was awesome! My only wish would be for a small refridgerator to keep some bottles of water, or left-overs in.

All the staff that we met were very friendly and accommodating. We only had one night booked at the Kensington and wish we'd had more. On future trips to San Francisco, we will be sure to stay there.

For the location and price, we couldn't have been more satisfied. Nice older hotel with clean rooms and a pleasant staff and at least half the cost of the hotel across the street. The rooms are small, but we didn't go to SF to see the inside of a hotel room. Walking distance to BART and China Town. Cable car stop at the end of the block.

I moved right across the street to the Kensington after 2 nights at the Westin St. Francis and was pleasantly surprised with the place. It is a small boutique hotel right in the middle of Union Square, but you still get a sense of privacy when you walk in the door. Every staff member was extremely personable and a pleasure to be around, which for me is very important. I prefer personal interaction when I'm traveling versus the robotic nature of say...the Westin employees. The hotel was clean and cozy. Bathrooms are slightly outdated but function just fine. If you want to stay in Union Square area, this is a comfortable and affordable option. Highly recommended.

Decent restaurants nearby, though some expensive because of the location ... which was very 'safe'. Stop for valuable hop-on / hop-off tourist bus nearby, which is also useful as a cheap and simple way of getting around beond the initial oritentation exercise if you are a new visitor with a couple of days' ticket.

I recently spent 5 nights in San Francisco at the Kensington Park Hotel. It is an old hotel that has been tastefully renovated very close to Union Square. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful and unobtrusive. The only issue I had was that there was no restaurant or room service on site. However, there are cafes and restaurants within easy reach so this was not too big a problem.

This was a last minute trip to see our daughter for just a couple days and the regular hotel we stay at was all booked up. I found the Kensington on Hotels.com and it had good reviews so we decided to try it out since we were planning to eat all meals with our daughter it didn't matter that the room came with no breakfast. They serve coffee and have Tea in the lobby with sherry in the late afternoon if you're into that. I'd prefer wine myself but it was available. The rooms are regular size but the bed was very comfortable which is the most important to us. It's very close to everything in the square and appx. 3 blocks from the bart which was perfect for us to get to the airport. I would stay here again if our travel arrangements were the same. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The only negative for me is that they do not serve breakfast if I had to pick one.

Other than checking in did anyone at the front desk acknowledge us, such as coming in at 10 pm when there was no one else in the lobby. The rooms need updating and the furniture isn't even close to matching. My ranking is barely a 3.

Great Hotel! Service was fantastic. The rooms were well looked after and designed beautfully. The bed was very comfortable, and a great shower! Amidst the shopping district and walking distance to the finacial district where there are multiple restaurants. The only thing it was hard to find a proper pub!

Having worked in all front service department in Las Vegas for the past 10 years (manager including), I have to say that I couldn't be happier with my stay. One thing I've always told my past employees was that you can get a nice room no matter where you go, what makes the difference is the employees. The Kensington has those employees, everybody was polite and extremely accommodating.

Our family stayed at this hotel for a night at the tail end of our vacation. It is not a family oriented hotel. Far from the sights my kids were interested in, no place to leave the car (the valet told us when he brought the car up, it could only sit on the street less than 10 minutes), and older all the way through. The room was clean and comfortable, if small, but it is not in the right spot for a family. Theatre and shopping are close, parking is horribly expensive and inconvenient. Staff are polite and do their best.

Located in union square and walking distance to cable cars, shopping and restaurants (including the cheesecake factory on top of Macys union square)... the hotel room was clean and comfortable and the staff very helpful. We were happy with our stay and would recommend the hotel We were glad we stayed at union square and not fishermans wharf (which was very touristy).

Kensington Hotel was a great location, only 1/2 block to Union Square. Lots of restaurants and places to eat close by, as well as Chinatown. Room was reasonably clean, but bathrooms need to be updated a bit and could be a bit cleaner, as there was mold in the shower.
