room had trace of smoky smell

I have read some of the previous posts before booking and I must say that the posters giving this place a negative review are the type of people that God Himself couldn't please... The apperance is fantastic, staff friendly, very very clean! Parking garage was clean well lit and not a far walk at all unless ur LAZY then you wouldn't like it. The base of the hotel had a drug store/smal food court and a pub and a restaurant which were all greatly presented and not overly priced. I have been to many places and this place sits amongst the tops.. The suites were spacious as well as clean they also had a modern touch with a flat screen and didn't look dated at all.. I stayeed in suite 1205 so not sure if all the suites were renovated but ours was pretty fresh... Other then Maybe trying the Fairmont (if they ever reduce the price) I would stay at the Minto suites without hesitation again!

We booked a night in Minto in August 2011. Judging by pictures we saw on their website, I was expecting 4 star hotel. Well, it was much worst than that. The carpet in our room was really dirty and stained by who know what. The place is pretty old. All furniture in the room was falling apart ... I will skip this place when I come to Montreal again.

Excellent stay every one very helpful and friendly. Particularly on the front desk nothing was too much trouble

Our family was impressed with this Hotel from the beginning. We arrived late at 0430am after our flight was delayed by three hours from the west coast. The night clerk felt for us and upgraded our room at no cost to us - it was a magnificent room which we came to appreciate after 7 days & by the end of the week. The centralized location made it perfect for walking to the various tourist attractions. We felt safe and the food court in the mall underneath was just what we wanted. I would recommend this Hotel this a heartbeat to anyone interested.

We arrived at the hotel and were sent to the room which had been reserved for us; the room stunk of cigarette smoke. We asked to move rooms...an hour later bell hop had still not arrived at room to deliver key to new room. We had to go to lobby to get our keys our self. New room was fine. Hallways were cluttered with garbage for hours after we checked in....beer and wine bottles, take out food containers. When we went to the pool there were no towels available. Not the best stay we've had at a four star hotel!

I was very impressed with the room and the hotel aside from getting there we realized we had only one bed in each room, when i booked through hotels.com they said it was a 2 bedroom suite with 2 bedrooms in EACH room!! Total of 4 double beds and a pull out couch..... Ended up there was 2 double beds and a pull out couch!!

We had thought we would be closer to the Byward Market. Dining options in the area were disappointing. Your guaranteed price match for accomodations was not well explained and very poorly handled by your front desk staff

We had a great stay at the Minto in Ottawa. Room was ready when we arrived shortly after noon, great after being on the road for 6 hours. The suite was very clean, had great views of the city, staff was excellent, and every amenity imagineable was available at the hotel. ( Even bikes to borrow at no charge ) The only fault we could find with the suite was the comfort of the bed. We are used to a plush mattress, and the bed in the suite was definately firm ( too firm for us ) however some people prefer that. Otherwise a great stay and the next time we are in town we will stay at the Minto again.

Gotta say this place has a great feel, great bed, great sized room and super clean to boot.

This hotel was highly recommended to us but we'll probably never go again. The interior was dated...things were peeling, chipping, and/or old. Great location but parking was a challenge. Our family was put on the same floor as guests from a festival so it was very loud, woke up our kids several times thru/out the night.

This is my third time staying at the Minto Suites hotel in Ottawa. The location can't be beat. It's walking distance from Sparks St., Parliament Hill, Byward Market and the National Gallery. We also liked the fact that these are suites so you have a sofa and chair, tables and a flat-screen TV, as well as a small kitchenette with a fridge, so we had a place to store extra bottles of water and could have brought in our own food if we'd so desired. I have in the past used the pool at the hotel, which I enjoyed a lot, although I didn't have a chance on this visit. I gave a slightly lower rating for comfort only because I slept on the pullout couch, letting my sister use the queen bed, and it definitely can't compare to the comfort of a full mattress. The only other quibble was that we noticed an odour when we first checked in, which we at first thought might be stale cigarette smoke, although it's a non-smoking hotel. We later decided the odour might come from the cleaning products used because it was back when we returned to the room Saturday evening after a day shopping and gallery-going. Our first evening, our floor was quiet as a tomb with several young families in the surrounding rooms. The second night, the families had appeared to check out and some rowdy kids had checked in. They were out in the hall making noise as my sister and I went to bed around 11 p.m. I always sleep with good earplugs in hotels and was so exhausted that I fell asleep right away, but my sister found it harder to do so. That's just the luck of the draw, though. Any hotel can have noisy guests. One last thing, we ordered a PPV movie the first night and the picture quality was awful. That's disappointing when you're paying $14.99 to rent a movie.

My daughter and I and my husband stayed at the minto hotel for our holidays. We were very happy with the service. They had upgraded us to another suite free of charge, as the first suite was not what we were expecting , then when I phoned the desk for an internet hook up ..they gave it to us for free. Parking was good but had to circle the parking lot a couple of times to find one or more spots and perferably one that doesn't have the big round pillars to park beside.. Either wise we had a fantastic stay at the minto hotel. I also had to get a perscription filled as soon as we arrived and there is a mini mall attached to the hotel. We were able to get it filled right away. Very impressed. Our stay was great , the customer service was excellant and the food tasty.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Minto Suite during our short stay. It's like our own home. We will definitely comeback whenever we get a chance next year!

My biggest complaint is that I requested a smoke free room and by the smell of the room and floor guests had smoked in the room prior. The smell of old cigarette smoke was quite unpleasent.

Great value. Desk staff were freiendly and efficient.

This all suite hotel is central to downtown area and tourist attractions. The suites are equipped with a kitchenette with all amenities other than a stove which is quite convenient. Two bathrooms per suite a 4 and a 3 piece was wonderful. A/C was inadequate in the rooms but common and public areas were well cooled. Room service was overpriced and quality was not worth the money. I would stay here again, and avoid room service.

My daughter and I enjoyed our stay very much. We were within walking distance of the NAC where we say a wonderful show. We like the fact that there was a fridge in the room . Also, coffee shops in the immediate neighbourhood were great for breakfast.

Excellent location! We attended Bluesfest and only had a short walk back to the room. Our first room smelled like cig smoke, they changed our room and made sure we were comfortable. They let us check in early! Wonderful staff! Only problem, big truck small parking spaces.

Stayed in a two bedroom suite with five adults for the Canada Day weekend. Very spacious and comfortable. Two bathrooms. Good kitchen. Made our stay very pleasant and comfortable. Nice pool/sauna/hot tub.

We visited Ottawa with the intention of being tourists. Minto is close to the downtown and close to major museums, the Byward Market, the House of Commons and good dining. The staff is friendly and helpful and room service prompt. We only had breakfast in the hotel...nice buffet but we chose bacon and eggs...The "home fries" were a surprise...actually "tater gems"..we laughed and enjoyed!!! Hotel is older but has had a recent upgrade...our room was large and clean. We made good use of the in-room coffee pot and fridge....also has a small stove that we used once to boil water for tea. The pool looked inviting and the roof-top garden is wonderful...we spent a couple of hours sitting in the garden ...just relaxing... We give the Minto a good rating and suggest it is a good choice as a downtown hotel.

Excellent location, walking distance to Byward Market, Little Italy, Chinatown, Ottawa River, Rideau Canal and Parliment Buildings. We like to bike and the biking trails were very well maintained. We were also able to bike to Hull and Gatineau Park. The salt water pool was very refreshing after biking all day. The only complaint was the air conditioner wasn't able to cool the room around the corner where the bed was situated.

It was a wonderful experience

Nice suites, comfortable beds and a good price. Good gym (free). Free bike rental a bonus (lots of safe cycle routes in Ottawa). Location a little out from the best areas for bars & restaurants (which are around the Byward market area near Fairmont & Westin). Only bugbear was they charge 10CAD per day (plus taxes, of course) for internet access. This was free everywhere else we stayed in Canada.

Ottawa's a dull town and this dull hotel suits it. Nothing terrible about it...showing its age of course. Never pay the full rate...but if you get it cheap its not a bad deal. They soak you another 18 bucks for parking.

Great location, very clean and the staff were very helpful

Very nice entrance area when walking in the hotel, however the rooms are not a reflection of this. Rooms are run down. We were actually re-located to another room as the guests beside us were smoking on their balcony and the smell of smoke was quite strong in our room as a result. The Bed and pillows were extremely hard/old. If you booked a Queen bed, you will be sleeping on a double!! Overall cleanliness of the room was not up to standard. The front Reception people were extremely approacable, friendly and more than willing to answer any questions we had.

The hotel made me feel like home. people was great. sattellite radio. Telelvision, roomservice , the food court, it was great. it proven that it is realy a Four start Hotel. Thank you MInto. P.S Hotels.com Thank you for letting me experience such a great hotel.

Hotel staff were very pleasant. Room service was quite good from the Prime 360 restaurant. Pool and exercise facilities looked quite nice but didn’t have a chance to use them. Great location, close to all attractions. Studio room was ok. Spacious and the kitchenette with mini fridge, microwave, tea kettle and dishes, cutlery came in very handy. We had requested a room with a balcony, but there was some sort of miscommunication in our online reservations and we were informed upon arrival that studio rooms do not have balconies. We asked if we could upgrade, but the hotel could not adjust the reservation because it was made online through an outside website. We were told if we wanted to change our room reservation we would have to contact the website we booked through ourselves. I was rather disappointed. The pillows were also quite hard the first night, but housekeeping provided us with softer pillows upon our request. I was also expecting robes and a nicer bathroom, but I suppose those are only offered with the upgraded suites. I stayed at the Westin on my previous trip to Ottawa, so perhaps I am comparing too much. For the price we paid and the short time we stayed, the Minto was good value for money. If I stay there again however, I would definitely try to reserve a better room.

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at the Minto, a beautiful hotel that had all you could have possibly needed and more. My husband enjoyed the work out facility as well. It was right downtown and close to lots of shopping and restaurants. We would definately stay again given the oppourtunity.

This is my 2nd saty at the Minto and both times the service, location and comfort of the hotel has been great. The location in particular is of importance as my business in the Ottawa core. Thanks again. Tony

Minto Suits, Ottawa. Magic place to stay, everything was within easy walking distance form the hotel. You could use one of their free bikes to ride.
