first appearance of room was clean. then we look at the bathroom and see long black hairs every where. on the floor. on the walls. and on the ceiling. black mold growing in the bathroom. dust covered the blinds on the windows in the room and bathroom. dust covered the lamps and lamp shades. dirt in the window seals in room and bathroom. shower had hair left in it. I was not comfortable but we stayed only one night and got out.

We enjoyed staying at this historic hotel. We appreciate that it provides a training venue for students who attend Virginia Tech and they are doing a great job. We were there to attend a race at Martinsville Race Track, and we couldn't have spent a better night before the race.

We loved our brief stay in this beautiful historic hotel. Everything was clean and well designed. The staff were courteous and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel and hope I am in Roanoke again so I may stay another night.

Great old hotel, good location, and loved the restaurant. Like a step back in time.

Loved Roanoke and Hotel Roanoke

It is a great hotel with all of the amenities. I will be back in May!

Great location to downtown Roanoke....was able to walk to all night life locations. Never needed to call a cab and neighborhood is very safe.

Step back in time to ultimate elegance. This grand old hotel is a real gem. From the southern hospitality to the intricate details of design and color, this hotel is a multi sensory treat. They even change the carpets in the elevator every day to say have a pleasant _____day. Amazing. The breakfast is a must do. The waitstaff treat you like royalty. We loved it all and will be back again.

When I arrived, their self-parking lot was full, so the lady at the front desk said I could use the valet parking and would only be charged at the self-park rate. They charged me for valet parking anyway, contrary to what I was told. I called back to get this fixed and they said they couldn't fix it and there was no notation in the computer about our conversation. Is it really worth losing a repeat customer over a few bucks? Very disappointed.

They didn't inform me of pre-authorizing my bank account to pay for parking, which I feel should be included with the stay of the hotel. When I called to ask about the charge, the first two girls had no idea what I was talking about nor did they know how to help me. But the manager got that handled and it takes up to 10 days to go back into my account, so make sure you have that extra $25. Also, they didn't tell us the cookies they give at check in have nuts in them, nor did we see a warning on the package. Thank goodness however no one in my group had an allergy to nuts. Otherwise the hotel was very nice, comfortable and inviting. Everyone was very pleased with our stay!

The staff at Hotel Roanoke was extremely courteous and helpful! They could not have been more accomodating. I will absolutely recommend this place to others and stay again if I am in the area.

Tried a Pure ( hypoallergenic room) you could smell the ozone machine (odd but not bad smell). Overall it was a very comfortable room in great location w/ short walk to food etc. I would stay there again

Service was excellent, accommodations very nice, but it just wasn't worth the overall cost. I've stayed at comparably priced hotels where the "extras" were either included or not as outrageously expensive. Not likely to repeat or recommend.

Stay here! Leave your car with the valet, and WALK almost everywhere you want to go (1/4 mile). Great hotel, great service.

wonderful season to visit - loved all the Christmas trees

This is our 4th time to stay at The Hotel Roanoke over Christmas. The historical hotel is warm, and comfortable and really is spot on for the holidays. Decorated with taste and charm, and the staff is upbeat and friendly.

We were placed in a cheap room where the help would stay in times past which is rather insulting. TV remote not working and room keys malfunctioned. Adequate but could have been stellar with a little effort via staff.

The hotel was warm and inviting, our room was in excellent condition with comfortable/high quality linens, pillows, etc. Aside from the historic premises, we were most pleased with the staff- the valets, front desk, and servers in the Pine Lodge were top notch as befits the hotel's long tradition. They have the knack for making guests feel special.

Would have been a 5. Self parking should be complimentary for hotel guest.

We were in town for a wedding. The location of the hotel was wonderful for those hours waiting. The shopping and dining across the railway skyway was treat. Endless hours could be spent in the shops. We had the rehearsal reception at the Transportation Museum, which is close to the hotel. It was walking distance for the afternoon, but at night we opted to use the shuttle.

Overall a very nice hotel, friendly staff and conveniently located. One disappointment however: we were "upgraded" to a partial suite, having to sleep on a sofa sleeper. To make things worse, the other part of the suite was also occupied resulting in having to hear all from our "neighbors" as the suite is not really designed to utilize as two seperate rooms....No one at check in however, informed us about the situation.

The hotel was lovely. James in the sports bar was superb in his customer serive. The room however was smaller than i had expected---but the bed was heaven. There were candy wrappers and a bottle top behind the chair upon entering the room...Not very inviting.

We very much enjoyed our 1 night stay at this hotel. The rocking chairs on the front porch were "Rockin"- what a nice way to relax! Rooms were very comfortable, especially beds & linens. Bathroom was nice and big. This hotel had a lot of character - wish we had more time to explore.

We had a fantastic time. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Even with six weddings going on. Great location within walking distance of the downtown area.

Enjoyable stay. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Looking forward to my return trip.

I stayed here because I had to take the Virgina Bar Exam at the Civic Center, which is within walking distance from the hotel. Pros: The hotel was very nice looking. They gym had enough machines where there was never a wait. They have a pool. Cons: The bathroom in my room was disgusting - there was toothpaste on the knob on one of the drawers, there was mold/mildew all over the bottom of the shower curtain, and a rim had formed in the toilet bowl from not being cleaned. I made myself some coffee on my first morning there, then went off to take day 1 of the exam, and when I came back all of the coffee stuff was still sitting there. The only thing they did was make the beds. The door of the room I stayed in (340) did not close fully, so there's a gap where you can see into the room from the hall. In addition, due to this gap, you can hear EVERYTHING in the hallway. In fact, I was scared awake each morning by loud banging on other rooms and yells of "ROOM SERVICE." I would fall asleep only to be awoken by it again. Also, they charge $7/day for self-parking. None of my friends staying at other hotels in the area had to pay for parking. There was also always a long wait for the elevator, and when it finally came, it was always already full. I would not stay here again.
