Kingsgate Hotel Greymouth - جريموث

All staff were very helpful, friendly and professional. The hotel has been on that site for a very long time and has both new and old sections. We stayed in an older style room which was very dated but that wasn't a problem as the cost was low and a very good hot buffet breakfast was included. The hotel dining room dates from perhaps the 1920s, is in excellent condition with lovely period decor, and has attentive and professional staff and an excellent menu. For us the dining experience was the highlight. If visiting Greymouth again would definitely stay there again.

When we first saw our room which we had booked online we were disappointed. However after speaking to reception about upgrading we were warmly and politely told that it would be no trouble! Our next room was much better and we were very happy. The reception staff and room service staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definately recommend the Greymouth Kingsgate to others.

Room could have been cleaner--beer lids from previous guests on floor. bed linen and towels clean. bed too soft.

Great location and for the price it was great

This hotel looked and felt like it had never been maintained since construction in the early 1900's. When we arrived we checked the sheets and there was other people's hair all over them. Obviously just made from the previous guests rather than new sheets. There was no ventilation nor air moving device which made the room very stuffy, even when the tiny window and front door were left open. It was over priced backpackers accommodation. I also think you could get better accommodation for the same amount of money. If we had a tent we would of stayed in it. Do not waste your time nor money, this is not a 3star hotel.

we arrived late and headed out early the next morning so were looking for cheap accommodation that was comfortable...this hotel met our needs perfectly. the room was small but tidy and had all basic amenities

very good stay

We booked this hotel online then discovered the hotel had a number of very bad reviews. I tried to cancel but as we were unable to get refund we decided we would 'give it a go' and if smelly and grotty as previous reviews has indicated we would leave. This was not the case at all and our experience at the hotel was fantastic - not a five star hotel but then they never claimed to be this. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We were travelling with an infant and within 10min of arriving hotel staff set up a cot for our wee one so she could have a afternoon sleep. Staff also gave great advice on where to eat if not dining at the hotel. The room was of a good standard and clean. The bathroom had been recently upgraded with high quality fixtures - fully tiled, athena showers and fixtures. We both had a nice warm shower with good water pressure. We had to have the heater on high to get it to work properly but that was really out only gripe. Very handy location close to the rail station and just off the main street making everything within walking distance. We were in a superior room but it was at a standard room rate - this room was located in the main part of the hotel. We would definately stay again and let this be a warning that you can't always believe all negative reviews you read.

The hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. The staff was great, the Albert restaurant (attached) had the best food in New Zealand, and everything was in easy walking distance. We choose KingsGate because it was 3 short and safe blocks from TransAlpine train station (beautiful trip). Looking at previous comments, I was expecting a dive, but was very pleasantly surprised. The heater for the room took a few minutes to figure out (turn dial at the very bottom), but other than that, it was perfect. The restaurant was delicious, and the prices were in line with what you would expect a place with a great chef, a little high, but not bad.
