AC Hotel Carlton Madrid by Marriott - مدريد

Great hotel. We used the airporter bus to go from the airport to the train station, then a short, easy 5-10 minute walk to the hotel. We arrived at the hotel around 10:30 AM and they let us into our room.Took a nap, then explored Madrid. The beds are a firmer mattress on an elevated platform, but not uncomfortable. Room was clean, quiet (6th floor) and the bath was huge. Watch out, however, where you aim the shower head as the shower door is only a "half door" of glass and you can easily soak the floor outside the shower.Toiletries were included along with a hair dryer that worked just fine for my long hair. There are 3 ATMs for various banks adjacent to the hotel (across a side street), and metro stations both at the train station and one even more convenient only a 2-block walk south of the hotel. There are also lots of small markets and bodegas to buy some snacks or bottled waters (very inexpensive at these markets). The breakfast buffet was excellent. Eggs and various types of ham/bacon, fruit, pastries, coffee, tea and fresh squeezed jiuces. Worth paying a little more for the breakfast included when you book your room ahead. Also, unlike some reviewers, we found the staff very pleasant, although there can be a long trying to check out if you are arriving around 10 AM (as we did) and the staff can be a little harried. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

The hotel was just as advertised for our needs. It was quick and easy walk from the Atocha train station, and walking distance of the central city park (Parque del Retiro) and into the central part of town -- we walked to Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol for dinner. The room was clean and modern, though travellers from the US may find it a little on the small side, though not overly so -- our bedroom was about 13x11 feet. We didn't try the breakfast, so we can't comment on that. However, there was a really great bakery/pastry shop about halfway up the street towards the station, on the left as you head from the station to the hotel. My only gripe, and a minor one at that, is that the (free!) WiFi in the lobby was really quite slow.

They got me with the Marriott name in the title - but not up to Marriott standards - very small and noisy rooms (the floors and ceiling must be make of very thin paper! I even heard the sound of a luggage zipper in the room next door!!); elevators made me extremely claustropohic; minimal amenities - no real gym, no real restaurant or bar in the lobby; they charge for Wifi in the rooms (free in the lobby); and the TV has only 1 English-speaking channel.

The hotel and facilities are great. Only downside is the loud road that has a stoplight with racing traffic all night long. I've stayed on the 4th floor and the 8th floor. The higher up you go, the better.

Good hotel. Just one block from the train station and the airport shuttle. Lots of local bars and restauratns around. Nice clean rooms, a little larger than average size (for Madrid). However, it is 2 metro stops from the historic downtown, or a 15 min walk.

I discovered the AC hotels on recent trip to Spain. Good quality overall but be warned, no internet access outside of lobby. Cost 18 euros to add to room, which is a major inconvenence when traveling. That said, room while small was well done, very inexpensive, very close to train station (2 blocks) and close to all attractions in madrid (easy walk to all major attractions). Unfortunately I also go room in back of hotel next to maid station and was noisy. Not sure if they give this to hotel.com guests or not. Would stay again given cost and location, but sure wish they would add wifi....

This hotel is in a perfect central location easily accessible via Metro. The rooms nicely decorated, quiet, modern, comfortable, stylish. Very helpful and efficient staff.Only drawback is the rather pricey in-room Wifi @ EUR 18 per day but there is free Wifi in the lobby and ground floor areas.Perfect for business and leisure traveler.

This hotel is conveniently located near the Atocha train station, the Prado and the Reina Sofia museums. The room was comfortable and clean. The beds were firm. Front desk staff was patient, friendly and helpful.

Very comfortable hotel with tidy and very clean rooms. Free soft drinks in mini bar which was a good touch. Good location if coming by train, only a 15-20mins walk to city centre

Great location - walking distance from El Prado, Puerta de Alcala, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor.

Overall good stay. Hotel is well located to major sights that were on our agenda. Hotel room was clean but while we stayed, they did not sweep the room nor changed the bedsheet once even though we stayed for 4 nights. Upon check in when we asked if our breakfast was included, the lady at the front desk answered yes. well the next day we had to pay 33 euro for 2 as it was not included. That we did not appreciate. Besides that, we recommend the hotel

the room was nice, servive very good, staff very helpful. It was very close to the Atocha train station which is a plus if you are taking a high speed train from there but the surrounding area was not the best. It was distant from some of the sites I wanted to see, but the metro was a few blocks away and very easy to use. The only complaint I really had is the expense, breakfast is tough to swallow for the cost when you can walk to the corner and get it for less, and the only wifi is in the reception area which also doubles as the bar.

Staff were very friendly, location was great for the train as we were travelling to Toledo early the next morning. Room was lovely and very comfortable and great value for money!!

This was a fabulous hotel and perfect for our needs. The cleanliness, polish, and the efficiency with which the rooms were set up is perfect. Most of the gentlemen working the front desk were fabulous, but one in particular seemed a little put out when we asked for advice around the city. Bartenders and servers were great!

Very comfortable hotel close to three different metro stops. 15 to 20 minute walk from the heart of the city. 10 minute walk from the famous Prado museum. Excellent location for anyone looking to be away from the crowds and noisy areas of the city. Located on a well lit street that feels safe at all hours of the day and night. Having the Atocha train station right down the street is also a bonus. The staff is very pleasant and had no problem holding our luggage when we arrived before check in time. They will also hold your bags if you have to check out and have a few hours before you have to catch your bus or train out of town.

Hotel is a short walk from the station with good access by metro or train to all areas of Madrid. Reception staff were helpful, and our room was large and clean, with a huge bathroom with a spa tub also! Mini bar drinks were free, but buffet breakfast not included, which suited us fine as we just grabbed breakfast at a nearby cafe. My only issue was with the room safe being very old and needing a key, which they charge you if lost, and for some reason the first day we had two half rolls of toilet paper instead of new ones...

Loved my stay here. Great location near reina Sophia an the atocha metro stop. The staff were very accommodating and sweet and the free mini bar was a big plus! I travelled alone and am a single woman and I found the area to be safe. Only con is the price of the wifi 17 euro a day is a bit ridiculous! But it is free in the lobby!

The AC Carlton Madrid Hotel was really a very nice place to stay. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful. The breakfast was outstanding. It was a short walk to the Metro but slightly longer walk to the Hop On / Hop Off Bus tour stop. One bonus was that the drinks in the mini-bar were complimentary. All in all, it was a good place to stay.

I arrived in Madrid at the train station and was able to walk a few blocks to the hotel very easily. Check in didn't go as smooth as I would have liked. The first room they gave me, 117, smelled like sewage. When requesting another room, I tried to be polite in front of other guests and asked if it was close to a smoking room. It seemed he knew the room had an odor when he practically finished my sentence by saying the room smelled. He then gave me room 514, which was much better, but the first key didn't work, so I had to get another. I was finally able to enjoy my free minibar (soda and water) and get out to see the sights. It was very convenient to walk to most places and to be able to take the metro back when exhausted (also at train station). The shower was a little strange. It had a glass door that only went halfway the length of the tub. It was a complete mess with every shower I took, no matter how hard I would try not to let the spray go everywhere- the floor was soaked. I would definitely stay here again, but would immediately ask for a high floor.

The staff was very nice and helpful. Our room was great and it was only minites from all of the must-see sights by the metro.

We only stayed for one night at this ideal location, having taken the bus from the airport to Atocha station and then on by train the next day. Hotel was comfortable and cool. Beware restaurant prices in surrounding areas as an obvious innocent tourist trap.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the AC Carlton. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful from the front desk staff to the housekeeper. The hotel is within walking distance of the Atoche Renfe train station and Reina Sofia. It is also within a quick walk of the metro which we used often. the room was clean and very spacious by european standards. The hotel was modern and chic and the room decor was wonderful. We stayed on the fifth floor. It was incredibly quiet even though we were on the street side. I highly recommend this hotel.

Within a short walk from the main museums, Reine Sofia, Prado and the central station the location of this hotel is perfect. Small hotel and friendly staff and faciltities that are good and OK but no luxury.

Stayed 3 nights here. Location of hotel is accessible to Atocha Renfe train station (about 10 mins walk), although we had some difficulty finding the place. It is also near to Burger King & other cafeterias. Hotel staff is courteous & check-in was smooth. We also appreciate the complementary minibar in the room. The downsides are : no free wifi in the room (although the lobby has free wifi); and the room is not soundproof at all (we got disturbed by phone ringing & voices from other rooms & opening/closing of doors throughout our stay). Probably not suitable for light sleepers.

Breakfast at hotel is good. Great to have Internet access at the hotel lobby

1. 1 bed that is made out of 2 beds. They can be separated with a push of a finger. 2. mini bar is not free 3. you have to pay for wifi in basic rooms if you are a tourist, you need a wifi. 4. if you are sensitive to noise. NOT A PLACE TO SLEEP. We were unsensitive to noise so it was alright. 5. There is a club next to hotel. Bunch of people hanging out until 6:00 AM in the morning. (we stayed during week days) 6. Location does not seem so safe. A lot of drunken people at late nights. 7. Close to the metro but thats it. 8. You can find somewhere better. Definitely for same price.

we came into Madrid on a train and elected to stay at the hotel overnight , we had a flight the next morning. The hotel was fine, the breakfast was good, It is next to Atocha train station so it was convienient. It seems like a more businessman's oriented hotel.

Overall, we had a nice time at the AC Hotel in Madrid. Probably the biggest draw was the location. The Hotel was very close to the Atocha station making it easy to take day trips via the high speed rail and also to get to the airport. There is a yellow bus leaving the station about every 30 minutes going to the airport for 2 euro! We also enjoyed the yummy hotel breakfast.

The rooms were large compared to many European hotel rooms. Bathroom - outdated but not bad. Beds were very comfortable. Great location

The hotel has everything you need for a great stay in Madrid - close to transport, restaurants and within walking distance/public transport of everywhere you want to go. Staff were very friendly and helpful, suggesting places of interest and advice on local restaurants. There are a couple of local restaurants nearby and while the owners/staff don't speak English, the food is sensational. Would definitely stay here again!

The hotel was located near the train station which isn't the nicest areas in Madrid, however it was central and easy to get to most places in Madrid and Spain by metro or train. The room was average, beds not the most comfortable but it was clean and the minibar is free with soft drinks and water which was useful considering the room was very stuffy.(In November!) Our room was in the first floor and you could hear people shouting from the street on some nights, something that we were expecting from reading reviews about hotels in Madrid. Lobby was not inviting and was mainly full of buisness people sitting in silence with their laptops. We didn't have a bad experience but it could have been any low budget hotel. We travel a lot and didn't feel like it was a four stars hotle.

very nice business style hotel just a short walk from the train station and the museums in that area. although a business hotel it is also very nice for tourists as well. possibly the nicest, hotel i stayed in while in spain.

The only grouch I had was that they were short-staffed both at reception/concierge and as regards food services. The food itself was good, though. One of the waiters had no English, even about menu items!

Great location - 5 minutes walk from Atocha Rail Station (from the back AVE train part, not the front part). Can walk to Prado and nearby sites. Nice staff - great breakfast buffet. Rooms clean and spacious. Loved it. Highly recommend.

The hotel was fine - near the station and near all the galleries and Retiro Park, but if I was returning to Madrid as a tourist I would want to be more in the centre as the area around the hotel does not have much character and the centre of the city is about 25 minutes walk or a metro ride away. The hotel also sits on a very busy one-way street and roooms at the front can be very noisy.

Hotel is newly refurbished so the decor and cleanliness of the room was great. Free wi-fi is only available at the lobby. Close walk to the Atocha train station which is good if you arrive/depart Madrid by TGV train. But the surrounding neighbourhood is a bit questionable and you don't feel safe walking outside the main street back to the hotel. Breakfast was excellent though.

A nice, clean, comfortable large room and large bathroom, free full breakfast, free mini-bar (mine had beer, and Fanta Limon soda which rocked), whirlpool bath, rainfall shower, convenient location, and nice staff all at a reasonable rate - how could I NOT like the place? The only peculiarity is that wi-fi is free only in the lobby, not incondusive to me, but others may take note. Also, on a lesser note, it's supposedly a 'green' hotel; you are supplied with only a packet of a few tissues which didn't get replenished. If you tend to use a lot of them, you may want to bring your own. Finally, as someone previously stated, there is an express bus to the airport from Atocha station for only 2 euros. I took it and it worked out well (gets a little crowded but a taxi could cost you 30-40 euros and the metro route looked wayward and inconvenient.)

This was a great hotel for our first night in Spain. The staff were helpful and very obliging and even with limited language, we managed to get everything we needed. Hotel´s internet is slow nd quite painful to use, so suggest you look elsewhere for this service.

On a two week vacation around Europe this was by FAR the best I stayed in. HIGHLY recommended. It is close to the Atocha train station and metro stop- providing easy access to anywhere in Madrid. Do be aware that the internet in the lobby is free, but there is a charge for access in the rooms. The rooms are large, spacious, and modern. The bathroom is large and has a whirlpool tub. A top choice for anytime I stay in Madrid.

Very convenient for travelling both within the City but also Spain in general as Main line Sation[ Atocha ]and bus terminal all within walking distance Bus service to Airport by bus both good and cheap. Staff at hotel very helpful Room lighting could be improved. Toilet brush please to save customers and staff embarassment.
