Hotel Colon Barcelona - برشلونة

The hotel and staff are wonderful and we will definitely stay there on our next visit to Barcelona! The room was very clean and neat and the daily maid service was exceptional. The front desk staff was very professional and courteous. Wi-Fi in the room was excellent. Walking out of the hotel and looking up at the Cathederal every morning was surreal. Beautiful hotel and wonderful location!

Very happy over all as evidenced above. Air conditioner was not working so the room was warm. Also it is located on a public square and the Spanish tend to stay up late and chat in loud tones until early in the am, but we were quite happy otherwise.

I'll start with the positives: location, location, location! It was perfectly situated near La Rambla, taxis and buses. We felt safe walking around at night and the cathedral square was a fun place to be, not to mention beautiful. The hotel furnishings, both the lobby and the rooms were dated. Bed was ok, but old and not very comfortable. Chairs in the room were extremely small, not made for a man. This is why I rated the comfort and maintenance a 3. Also, we were unable to get the heater or the a/c to work. A maintenance man was sent up immediately, but nothing was ever done. They do keep the rooms and baths clean, though. The front desk staff, as some others have said, were nice, but a bit abrupt at times. They did speak very good English and were helpful in many ways, especially in setting up our evening at a Flamenco show. However, they were not even interested in the fact that I could receive emails, but not send them and could not access any web pages through IE or Mozilla. Very strange, since the computer was working just fine before I left on the trip. I do hope that they will remodel someday soon, as I would go back for the location and the rates.

The hotel's location was perfect--in the square directly across the Barcelona Cathedral. A great location to begin exploring the Gothic Quarter as well as the other districts in Barcelona. Hotel staff was great. Room was fine--not 5 star for sure, but more than adequate for my 2 night stay. I had a room in the back of the hotel, so no view, but spent very little time in the room anyway. Too many great things to see in Barcelona. Good breakfast buffet, which I found reasonably priced for large European cities. I would stay there again without hesitation.

Hotel was in a great location, The desk was friendly but not helpful. The room was very hot during the night, if we opened the window it was too noisey. Our bed was two twin beds pushed together. All of that said, I would still stay there again.

Lovely location and traditonal hotel. Staff very helpful. Only thing missing was a kettle. Otherwise perfect.

Hotel Colon is well situated for touring the city, close to transportation, La Rambla and many sites. Barcelona is a good walking city and Hotel Colon is centrally located. Rooms and hotel were clean, staff extremely accomodating. Service had a personal touch. A good value as well.

The beat location possible. Next to the cathedral. Nice room, the only problem is there was no A/C, and the room was hot. Had to open the window, and was a bit noisy.

Great location! Couldnt ask for anything better! The entrance to the hotel is superb! You enter and think this is going to be great! Only to get to your room and feel completely disappaointed. Room is small, but thats normal in Barcelona center. However carpet had major stains on it and the decor was awful. In the end the location outweighs the room cleanliness & comfort, so I would recommend from that perspective. Las Ramblas is less than a 3 minute walk!

Can't beat the location! The Hotel is nice and clean and you can do an easy walk through the gothic area and down to las Ramblas.. Great time

Excellent location in the centre of Barcelona opposite the cathedral and in the heart of the shopping district. Quite at night. However rooms need updating and not really quite four star standard.

Hotel decor was very dated, carpet needed replaced--it was visibly worn in many areas--and the bed was very low to the ground. We staid at Grand Hotel Central, also in the Gothic area, and were much happier with our experience there. Granted, Hotel Colon was less expensive.

I really enjoyed my stay at this Hotel. I had an early arrival and was allowed to check in. The Airport Bus stops about a 15 Minute walk from the Hotel and I used the Bus to get back to the Airport. The Bus leaves every 5 Min. in the morning. The Hop on Hop off Bus stops less than a 5 Min. walk away. My room was quiet. The Staff speaks English. The in room safe doesn't hold a regular Computer but there is an additional Safe in the Lobby that will handel the Computer. The free internet worked fine. The only thing I wish my room had was a more comfortable chair and the shower could be a little bigger and some more space to lay down the toiletries. I had one issue with the safe but it was quickly taken care of. I would recomment the Hotel and would stay there again.

We stayed only one night in Barcelona and found this hotel very pleasant, the rooms might be a bit dated but they were clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. above all the beds were good which is very important. the central location is perfect, only a couple of minutes walk from the Rablas and being on square you do not get as much traffic noise. the hop on hop off busses stop 50 meters away from the hotel, pure bliss

What a wonderful hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful and all spoke English. The hotel is in the middle of the best part of Barcelona -- walking distance to La Rambla, the port, Catalunya square, and more great tapas places than we could count. I definitely recommend it. One suggestion for light sleepers is to reserve a room on the non-Cathedral side of the hotel. While we had a beautiful view of the Cathedral from our room, the square on which the hotel and Cathedral are located can get pretty lively on weekend nights and we had people drinking and singing until 4 a.m. Definltey recommend this hotel.

A beautiful hotel situated on the Barcelona Cathedral Plaza just blocks from Las Ramblas. Wonderful sidewalk cafe to enjoy a great lunch and people watch. Lots of activity and fun on the plaza all day and evening. Well situated for all sightseeing.

The hotel was in a perfect location to Las Rambles and Gothic center. If staying for a few day you'll enjoy the safe atmosphere. The only concern was the shower...it does not have a shower curtain...nothing to prevent the water getting all over the bathroom... so you would have to bath sitting down and not splashing the water out of the shower...oh well, it was still a great stay.

Great location, convenient for all the sights (the Barceona tour bus stops just beside it). Single room was surprisingly big, nicely decorated, quiet and clean. Staff were friendly and attentive. Can't fault it.

This hotel is right across from the cathedral in Catalunya Square. A really lovely hotel and spot. We couldn't get the air to work too well but did not ask for help. Price was great for an upscale hotel in a great spot. Would go back again;.

First stayed here about 45 years ago. Still a nice property and an ideal location. Front desk just a bit "cool" and too quick to give short answers to questions. Perhaps they were over worked. Would go back again. Would recommend The Colon.

This hotel is in a good position.The staff are not very happy in their work.Room could have been cleaner .

We were so pleased with the staff that were so helpful and nice. They spoke great English. The hotel is in a great location which is in the gothic district which is close to La Rambla. There is a great little cafe just down from the cathedral that serves the best croissants and other baked goodies. The walls of the hotel are paper thin, but we still loved our stay!

This hotel was a good value (for an October weekend; it could be different in mid-summer) and at a fantastic location in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. The staff was also quite helpful, and the room was not bad - big bathroom with tub, new flooring. The hotel is looking a bit past its heyday and in need of an update, but still well worth the stay.

Great that hotel was situated in a square opposite a cathedral, without passing traffic. 5 min walk to The Ramblas, where life is a buzz! Can walk to Casa Batlo in half an hour. Service in hotel wonderful, very clean and efficient. Love the old world charm of rooms with french doors, shutters and our own balcony.

Hotel is OK......very clean, .....staff ....not very friendly. Really didn't bother us..but worth mentioning. If you can do without the luxuries of the big name hotels, you will like this hotel. One thing I liked very much....they had wi-fi in the room at no additional cost. Location is great!!! Right accros from the Cathedral....Walking distance to many of the key sites! With Barcelona being such great place to visit....the hotel really takes second priority. Would I stay there again? Yes!!! Would I recommend it to friends and family? Absolutely yes!!! October 2011

Location, location, location! Right across the square from the Gothic Cathedral with view from our window yet soundproof windows and lightproof shutters/blinds for sleeping. Near the subway, all bus stops, taxi stand, Gothic Square, tourist shops, and Starbucks. The staff was very warm and helpful. The floors are beautiful; decor is vintage; and the place smells great.

Very good hotel, friendly and helpful reception staff. I think it is the best location in Barcelona. Good varieties for breakfast. Decoration of the room is a bit tied, but it not much bother. Bathroom is big with supply of toiletries ( even toothbrush). All american movie are in Spanish. I would stay there again.

Wonderful, welcoming staff. Easy checkin. Greeted by doorman who helped with luggage. We were about an hour early for checkin but our balcony room was ready upon our return from lunch. On a previous trip we stayed at the other Colon property and it was very nice but this trip and stay at the Hotel Colon exceeded our expectations. We were there for 3 nights. Love the location and so many great places to eat nearby. We would absolutely stay there again!

Right across from the Cathedral and a couple of blocks from the Palau de la Musica, the Hotel Colon is perfectly located. It's excellent service and restaurant made up for my clean but inside room.

I was in Barcelona for a conference near Plaza Espanol and choose to stay at Hotel Barcelona Colon near Plaza Catalunya. The location was within 3 metro stops from my conference site. The metro station was 5 minutes walk from hotel. The site was great for site seeing after conference time. The hotel is just opposite of the Catedral and provides a nice ambiance if you want to enjoy the activity of local and tourists. The hotel is old and does not have superb maintenance; however, the room was clean and everyone were quite helpful. Overall I was very satisfied for the mid-budget range.

The Hotel Colon fronts a large and lively pedestrian plaza, across the way from the Cathedral and the old Roman fortress. It is very convenient to public transportation, and just a short walk to Las Rambles. It was a great place to stay!

This hotel was terrific-great location, very comfortable and a view of the cathedral. A bit old fashioned, but very comfortable and quiet. Parking was available nearby and so was the bus to the airport.

I loved how I walked out the door the cathedral is right in front of the hotel, easy accessible to restaurants, bars and shops

rooms are clean but have not been renovated since ~1970 (although they did install LCD TV's.) Beds are very small. Great location and reasonably priced.

Service was exceptional. Hotel was charming. Location was great.

After reading most of the reviews on here, I found most of them favorable so I booked the hotel. I was very pleasantly surprised by everything the hotel had to offer. The few negative reviews I found on the site, I don't agree with. The staff was friendly and spoke English very well. One of them was actually an American who moved to Spain. Although the area is known for pick pocketers, I didn't have an issue during my 2 day stay, and I exercised all the safety tips the hotel provided. If I had to complain about something, it's that both elevators were out of service one evening and 1 was working the next day. Other then that, everything was top notch!

THREE COUPLES STAYED AT HOTEL COLON. IT IS IN AN EXCELLENT LOCATION, HELPFUL PERSONNEL AND A CHARMING STAY. ALL OF US AGREE, WE COULD NOT RECOMMEND IT HIGH ENOUGH

This is a wonderful hotel in a great location. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you are staying in Barcelona you will be pleased with this wonderful place.

Barcelona was wonderful! But, the hotel made my visit even better because of the location-right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. What could be better than having a hotel in front of the Barcelona Cathedral, a few steps away from Barri Gothic, La Rambla, the Boqueria, and so many other must-see places in Barcelona. It's accessibility to public transportation is also a plus. I'm already planning on going back to the same hotel with the rest of my family!

We loved the surrounding area and although it was in a busy plaza, it did not have the throngs of people we saw in some other areas. The tour bus stop was a block away (very convienient) It is a traditional luxury hotel. Very satisfied!

Very nice hotel, conveniently located it the Gothic area. Directly across from the Cathedral and close to everything. Hotel staff was great, very helpful. Very nice large bathroom. A little pricey but very convenient.

Location was fantastic--we got to see traditional dancing with live music in the plaza late on Saturday afternoon plus the line up and start of the Corpus Christi parade on Sunday afternoon just because we were staying right on the Cathedral plaza. Our room was a bit worn, but charming, roomy and clean, The bed was very comfortable. Slept well, in spite of being right next to elevator. Staff at front desk was very helpful and responsive to any request. I don't remember if we had the option to get breakfast included. If you are offered that option, note that full breakfast bought in the hotel is 18 Euros. However, coffee alone (as much as you like) is only 2 Euros. Continental breakfast is probably somewhere between. After paying the full amount one day, we then went to plan B, buying coffee only, finding a breakfast sandwich at a nearby little hole-in-the wall and filling up on inexpensive fruit from the huge market on La Rambla, just a few minutes' walk away. We would certainly stay here again!
