Generally it was a very good stay. Great location and very helpful staff. Unfortunately they charge for internet service and when my husband signed up, it worked for 15 minutes and then coded out. When he tried to get back on, they wanted another charge. After he complained they removed it from the bill, and he used the free access at a nearby Starbucks. They should just include free internet with the room.

The staff was very friendly and responsive. The location was great and everyone was very helpful.

With one exception, the hotel was spectacular. The road noise on the 32 floor was almost like I was sitting on Michigan avenue. Perhaps the most bothersome was the sirens. I had a hard time sleeping because each time I nearly fell asleep, I was jolted back awake but the sound of a siren on a fire truck as well as it blowing its horn.

Great location, right on Michigan. However, hotel managers I experienced (two) for two different hotel issues, we're very unaccommodating and rude. One issue was over Internet access which I was entitled but they couldn't verify because the person in charge of that was out for the evening. I was told that manager would reach out to me the. Ext day, which did not happen-- I had to reach out to the hotel, at which time I was told she was out again. They did finlly provide me the service that I should have had two days prior. Second incident was regarding the pool hours -- told on phone by hotel from desk around 8pm that pool access was 24 hours, but would need a special access key after 9:45 pm. At 11 or so pm, went down, got key to fitness center (at an extra charge), went to pool and it was padlocked. Went back to front desk and had a somewhat combative manager who demanded to know whom I spoke with On the phone (of course I didn't know) and then he demanded to know if it was a man or woman (I couldn't remember). He was rude, arrogant and completely unapologetic. Bear in mind my stay was for business and then pleasure -- 7 nights total, all of which I had paid for an upgrade upon my arrival. The only consistent element of my stay was how rude and off putting the managers were, with one exemption- one front desk staffer who was extremely polite and courteous at all times. I'm still in disbelief over the quality of service as an executive staying for business and as a customer extending my stay at premium pricing for pleasure. I will not stay at this hotel again.

We really liked this hotel. The location is perfect for anything you want to do in Chicago and the people were very friendly and nice. Great indoor pool. We would definitely stay here again.

Minutes from Navy Pier, Museum, Aquarium, Lake Shore. Hotel is on the Magnificient Mile so shopping is simply footsteps away. Valet parking can be expensive. Book hotel room with breakfast and enjoy their amazing breakfast in Continental. Swimming Pool is a jaw dropping pool on the 7th floor. Must see! Also must see their grand ballrooms in the historic tower. If you have a choice, stay in the historic tower for the ancient look and feel. The new tower is connected to the historic tower and offers same amenities.

We enjoyed out stay but realized the hotel was a bit old and lacked some of the amenities of newer hotels. We chose this hotel partially because it had a pool. The pool was an interesting artifact of days gone by and quite beautiful, but very utilitarian - more set up for swimming laps than for youngsters. We were also disappointed that there was no hot tub in the recently renovated pool area. The rooms were small but clean, There was a cabinet for a mini-fridge, but in our two rooms both of the refrigerators were removed. The staff was friendly. We had the breakfast buffet one day: two adults, two kids with tip cost nearly $100. Overpriced and not worth it.

The only issue is the parking. $57 + tip. Rooms are a little small, but typical of Chgo downtown hotels. The location can't be beat though. The coffeemaker didn't work, but wasn't worth the trouble to have them replace it.

This was our first time staying at this hotel. We loved the location and our room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. The only drawback is that they charge $14.95 for an internet connection. So, I connected my computer through the bluetooth on my smartphone to avoid paying this charge. Also, the bottled water in the room is $7. FYI, there are plenty of convenience stores nearby. Other than that, it is a very nice hotel.

No pool avail, solution to cross Michigan avenue to use hotel across the street was not acceptable with two little ones. Kids were ver disappointed.

Be careful staying here if you have a car. Overnight charge for cars is $50+ per night!!

I was not informed upon arrival about a $57 a night fee for parking. We had problems with the toilet in our room. A service person had to be called up twice. The second time was after we had gone to bed and were woken up by the toilet running. The pool was not working, and we were not informed by the hotel that we could have used the Marriott's pool across the street. The people were very nice, but the accommodations left something to be desired.

Pros: *Close to all the good shopping *Decent price for the quality *When valet parking, you Can come and go as many times as you want with no extra charge *Clean, high quality rooms COns: *When leaving the hotel, you have to go down to the parking garage to get your car. A bit ridiculous cconsidering it costs more than fifty bucks to 'valet' park. *Someone on our floor was smoking. After calling the front desk twice they were still smoking and our room stunk and so did our things. Not pleasant for a non smoker :) *the ice bucket was nowhere to be found. We called the front desk. It was inthe dresser drawer. Weird.

Centrally located hotel with a very cozy, inviting room. Service was efficient and the rates were far more reasonable than other hotels in its category. I'd definitely go back.

We always stay at this hotel whenever we are in Chicago. Close to everything and the staff is wonderful and very attentive. The breakfast buffet is very nice and such a great selection is offered.

I was a little nervous about staying here. There was some bad reviews posted about the quality and attitude of the staff. Yes the pool is out of order but the staff was fabulous! I had a great massage, and anything i asked for was taken care of right away. Great location and the valet parking was convenient. I will be staying there again:-)

All was well except a bathroom sink that would not drain. Very annoying.

The location kicks butt, but the rooms are small with no personality and not very clean. They are in serious need of an update.

Thank goodness we got a good rate because I would have really been upset if we paid full price. The room was so tiny, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, there was a really bad whirring sound coming from where the heat is, but the heat and fans were all off. We were never told the pool was being renovated until we had already booked the room with no cancellation. So kids had no swimming. Front desk durning check-in, rude. So dissappointed.

The hotel location was great. The room and hotel were very clean. The lobby looked great and had good restaurants. The room looked dated and there was no refrigerator in the room. Otherwise we loved the location, the service, and the hotel

Quick and friendly service, safe, quiet and many pluses to hotel and room. However, not much desk space for working in the room.

My husband and I live in Chicago and decided to stay at the Intercontinental because it had a beautiful pool. I am six months pregnant with twins and all I wanted was to swim in January in a pool. We arrived (after we pre-paid online) to the hotel and we told the pool was closed for routine maintenance. I was very upset and explained that the ONLY reason we booked this hotel was because of the pool. The front desk manager was unapologetic and kept saying "routine maintenance" and then suggested we should have called to inquire about the pool before booking. We were not offered any sort of future compensation, which would have been nice considering I still have not gotten to swim.

hotel pool has been out of commission since October but that isn't indicated on website or hotels.com. We chose this hotel because of pool while visiting with kids. The city has changed requirements about pool water or filtration apparently. Hotel front desk wasn't very accommodating when we complained

This hotel was nice. Two double beds in the room worked well with the kids. Rooms a bit on the small size, but totally adequate considering we were out most of the time. Major problem was the closure of the pool. This was one of the reasons we chose it - for a morning swim with the kids. We were able to use the pool at the Marriott across the road - which we did - but this was loads of hassle getting 2 small kids ready to effectively 'go out', when all we wanted was a swim. Wish the pool closure had been advertised here as we would not have stayed here otherwise. Other than this, the hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and a nice big Starbucks just off the lobby.

Perfect location, doormen are helpful getting cabs. Only complaint is the cost of valet parking and how slow they were to pull the car up. We had included buffet breakfast which was excellent. Beautiful hotel in the heart of Michigan ave shopping!

We decided at the last minute to stay in Chicago for New Years Eve. When calling to see if there were any available rooms, the reservations representative was very helpful and we felt that based on the holiday and the 11th hour in booking that we paid a very fair price for the evening. Our room was clean, spacious and it came with the breakfast buffet, which was very good. All of the help, from the concierge to the bellhops to the parking attendants were friendly and helpful. I would go back again!

We have stayed at the hotel before as a downtown treat to ourselves. It is close to shopping, restaurants, and entertainments. For us the best thing was always the amazing and historical swimming pool. Unfortunately this pool and many others were temporarily shut down by the city to our disappointment. However, the hotel gave us an upgrade in our room and a pass to the pool at the hotel across the street which was nice. The hotel itself looked very nice and everything looked like it had been recently redecorated. WE could go downstairs and have coffee and a roll at Starbucks, dinner within walking distance walk to a movie and shopping. Very restful and very convenient at a good price.

Service was good. Comfortable accomendations. but loud hallways. Next door party all night, we never slept all night.

The room was great. But, the hotel charged for internet service. Internet service should be a part of the room package.

This hotel was awesome. The location was perfect, could not have been better. The room was good size and very comfortable and quiet. The staff was so friendly- I could go on and on. Our train arrived at 10:00 am and we figured here was no way we'd be able to check in so early. We got to the hotel around 11am and it was no problem to check in and go up to the room. On our last day the train didn't leave until the evening and they were able to store our luggage all day. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definietly stay here again. The price we paid was SO reasonable. I think it would have been a lot higher any other time of year besides January.

Amazing hotel, amazing location, and amazing service. My only complaint would be that many of the hotel "amenities" that most of us are used to (e.g. gym, pool, internet) all come with extra, steep fees (I think $12 for internet per day?). Also, the rooms are on the smaller side, but I didn't mind that at all. Other than that, absolutely beautiful.

I booked a stay at the Intercontinental Chicago to surprise my husband and celebrate the New Year as we had been apart for most of the Holidays due to hectic schedules. The main reason for selecting the Intercontinental as opposed to any other downtown hotel was their "world-famous" swimming pool. I wanted for us to relax and feel like we were on vacation for a few hours - we needed it. What a disappointment to be informed upon check-in that the swimming pool had been closed by the city of Chicago and would REMAIN CLOSED AT LEAST UNTIL MARCH 2012. I felt very stupid as the agent at the front desk swore that the information was posted on their website. Well, I felt more taken advantage of than stupid after double and triple-checking their website and seeing no mention of the pool closure whatsoever. Especially since the website entices you by displaying several images of the beautiful swimming pool in question... We still had a good time, but had I known that the pool was closed, I probably would have selected a different hotel, booked a spa package, or other. So instead of going for a swim and reading the paper by the pool in the morning, we walked to Starbucks bundled in our winter coats... BTW, we could have used the pool at the Marriott across the street, but then it seemed quite a hassle to bundle up, to go strip into our bathing suits, and then have to put our coats back on to come back dripping wet... Didn't seem like the mini-vacation we were wishing for...
