My family and I spent a night at the Wales Hotel in the Upper East Side of Manhattan this weekend. We were headed to Central Park to participate in the Colon Cancer Challenge on Sunday and were pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a hotel. The staff was friendly, and accommodating. They cheered us on as we left for the race. For the price the room was large, with high ceilings and enough room for four to sleep comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and clean. I would recommend the Wales hotel to anyone needing a quick stay close to Central Park and away from the hectic life of Time Square.

Lovely small hotel with great museums within easy walking distance. Many lovely shops, nice dining spots again within short walks. Quiet neighborhood--upper east side makes for a pleasant stay for those who have already done the usual tourist spots.

Very nice and spacious room for a family of 4. Service was adequate although room service overpriced. Very nice people. Need to ask for a back or high room because we were on the 4th floor and street noice was VERY significant.

perfect little hotel.....great location. Room was small, but that is what we expected. Lovely neighborhood on the upper east side....close to amazing shopping on madison ave. Close to our favorite pubs. everyone was cordial. room was clean. we valet'd our car, but could have easily parked on the street. would definately stay there again.

The hotel was very quaint and ideal for my short business trip. It would however be beneficial to have all repairs completed before a guest stays in a room - the faucet in the bathroom was leaking.

Loved the hotel and location. The service of this hotel let it down. The room had not been cleaned properly and there were hairs in sink ( not ours) and on floor. No towells in room on first day had to ask three times to get some. On second day came back to hotel at 6 pm and again no towells had a dinner reservation 7pm had to ask 3 times again for towells was late for dinner very dissapointing.

The building is old but well maintained. Our room was small but if you are out most of the day like we are the staff more than make up for it. It is close to all the museums. Try the rooftop seating area! You can order from Sara Beth's and have it delivered there.

Great location, near the Park convenient to subway bed was uncomfortable room small bathroom was new and nice.

We spent one night at the Wales on a quick museum trip to New York. The hotel is a really fine small place. Staff were nice, the room was great, there was a peek of the Onassis Reservoir in Central Park from our room...all good. Only negatives were those no one could control (rain when we wanted to hang out on the beautiful rooftop deck) and those that maybe could be changed (room service ends way too early in the evening at 10 p.m.). But overall the Wales is hard to beat. It's pretty, quiet, well maintained, and charming.

Read reviews carefully. This wonderful location hotel had nice rooms but no central air so the a/c kept me awake compounded by rain pinging off the unit. The decor was very nice, but chairs were mushy, no plug near the desk, and the bed was way soft. On the plus side, I got up and went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art the next morning with no hassles...could even walk. So mixed bag...just know what to expect.

Room was snug but clean and comfortable. TV was off to the side of the bed, making it a little uncomfortable to watch from the bed. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was awesome, one block from Central Park. Nice lounge and rooftop terrace. Coffee in lounge was mediocre at best. Wonderful restaurants nearby. All in all, my wife and I would stay there again, and recommend it to others.

I will definitely stay again. I didn't get a chance to eat at SaraBeth's but I understood it to be very good with a well known reputation. Very quiet.

What a delightful surprise! After years of staying in the "usual" hotels, or ski condos for rent, the cosy, warm refurbished room was perfect for my needs. Close to my meeting destination and very quiet I've already recommended this hotel to my meeting hosts if they need a place for guests to their business. I really enjoyed the up-to-date shower and adorably folded washcloths as well as the choice of soaps, etc. The staff was helpful regarding keeping my luggage safe as well as recommending inner city travel. All told, cute and comfortable.

This is an older hotel and some of the rooms are quite small with windows that open only to light wells. Continental breakfast is no longer included or available and internet access is expensive. Complimentary coffee and cappuccino are available, although the cappuccino machine never worked during my stay. It is in a great location, though. Close to Central Park, museum mile and interesting shops. I have stayed there several times, and will do so again as it is very convenient for my work needs.

Very, very small accommodations and marginal maintenance. It is clean and people are VERY friendly, but heating, air conditioning and other maintenance is challenging. If you are there because of location and all you need is a bed - good to go!

I had always wanted to stay at this hotel ever since friends had stayed here years ago. I was not disappointed. I was in New York for a weekend birthday party that was being held a bit further uptown. My room was lovely, quiet and had ample storage space. My only complaint was that I could not control the heat. The room was quite warm and I ended up opening the window in the bedroom and the window in the bathroom to let in some cold air. I checked out the roof terrace and it looked inviting, but I did not use it because I was there in January and the terrace was filled with snow. The mezzanine where breakfast is served is a lovely, large room with great views of the surrounding neighborhood. And what a neighborhood it is: one block off of Central Park, near numerous museums and surrounded by great small shops and restaurants. i will stay here again if the occasion arises.

Smaller rooms but considering the price quite adequate. Very nice people and wonderful location. Curious that they do not have courtesy wireless internet, other than in a very nice but small business center, however. Not quite contemporary in that offering I am afraid. Internet expensive as well. If connectivity is a requirement - be forewarned!

Excellent, room, stay and experience.

I have stayed at the Wales for many years. I recommended it to an Australian friend last week who initially loved the hotel, but found that she was not given the room she had requested. They promised her another room the next day. She left at 1am because a giant radiator beside her bed would not turn off and it turned out another room would NOT be available the next day. I stayed at the Wales a few days later. Charming hotel, charming room, but the temperature of the room was uncomfortably warm. In my case, the radiator was not even on. It was just heat coming from other sources. I solved the problem by running the air conditioner the entire time - when the temperature outside was 25 degrees fahrenheit. Still love the hotel, the people who run it and the neighborhood.

This was a great pick at a good rate for the city. The best part was the roof top garden. It was absolutely lovely and the few times we went there almost no one else was there. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and a snack in this most un-expected secret place!

the staff was kind and helpful; beautiful rooftop view; very nice breakfast with free cappucino, latte, tea, and coffee available around the clock.

This was a nice hotel in a nice neighborhood, away from a lot of the noise of downtown Manhattan. The room was very clean but small. The bathroom was clean and just updated. The bed linens were very nice, however, one complaint I have about this hotel was the mattress, and it was one of the worst I have ever slept on in a hotel. It appears the hotel is being renovated, so hopefully the mattresses are also being replaced.

I liked Hotel Wales well enough. It was a good location for my business on the upper east side. The rooftop terrace is quite lovely. I liked the continental breakfast and the fact that it was served at no additional charge. The neighborhood has several nice restaurants as well as other businesses and services that I patronized. My queen-sized room was very dark and small, though the bath was spacious. Please be warned, too, that the hotel is undergoing extensive renovations, which is noisy.

This hotel has the quaint feeling of Europe, but the only perk of New York City was the updated bathroom. The room size left something to be desired. Alas, it is a hotel, an upper mid-class hotel. Doable for a night or two.

Cozy, quiet (with with one reservation), and charming. Turn-of-the century charm. Small room, but it felt larger with high ceilings and ample storage space. Good mattress. Very nice roof terrace. Really liked this hotel, but have two complaints that were important to me: the window AC was very noisy even on the "low" setting, so much so that I had to resort to earplugs. Second, only wooden blinds cover the windows and, while they are attractive, they don't do a good enough job at closing out the light at night. Someone needed to test the room by actually trying to sleep in it, rather than just passing the interior decorating test.

Muy bien situado junto a Central Park y en zona de museos. Un hotel con personalidad, estilo europeo, acogedor.

Knøttsmå rom, men flislagt bad og generellt bra standard på rommet. Airconditionen bråkte så mye at vi ikke kunne ha den på om natta. Tv på rommet, ikke kjøleskap. Mulig man kan få det. WI-FI var også en ekstra kostnad. Ligger fint til like ved parken, og et lite stykke unna Subwayen, men taxi er så billig og enkelt i denne byen at å komme seg noen sted er det siste problemet. Husk masse småpenger til tips!

La struttura ed il mobilio sono abbastanza vecchi, noi abbiamo cambiato camera perchè il sofà era in cattive condizioni, la camera è molto spaziosa, le lenzuola molto pulite, tutto è vecchiotto ma molto ben sistemato, il personale è molto gentlie e risolve i problemi, ci hanno regalato dei buoni colazione per il disturbo di cambiare camera, la posizione è eccellente, a due passi da central park, e vicinissimo ai principali musei.

Tagsüber einfach zu Fuß die Museen besuchen, abends von der Dachterrasse den Blick auf den Central Park genießen - das Hotel Wales an der Upper East Side hat eine besondere Atmosphäre. Durch die Lage für Kulturinteressierte und Parkliebhaber besonders zu empfehlen.
