we stayed here on the way back to canada, because of the great experience we had here on the way to shelby nc with the front office stafft. what a difference one employee can make......this visit the employee at reception did not greet us and was sullen and sarcastic as well as slovenly dressed and ill kempt when we arrived at 2pm. she told us there were no rooms left on the first floor and booked us one on the second floor, which when we arrived at the room we found to be unmade fron that days checkout. we waited for service but no one acknowledged us. we found a housekeeper next door in room 219 who apologized profusely, and said that she had not been given that room to clean, but she immediately started on our room. she was very friendly and helpful and if not for her we would just have left after our bad experience at checkin. we will probably never stay at this hotel again because we do not expect to be treated as we were by this f/o staff in any situation nor do i think would any other travel party.

The room was large enough, and the bathroom design was very smart for the space. The common area/breakfast area was a little on the small side. It wasn't bad, but the breakfast selection was a little limited (however, there was no additional cost for it). While it wasn't the hotel's fault, we had knocking at our door along with the door being jostled at 2:15am by a neighbor. They obviously didn't remember the correct door, but it was a detractor to an overall good experience.

hotel was what we expected and quite comfortable. condition of rooms needs some updating. front desk/reception desk service was excellent for both shifts that we were there for and we felt very welcome. thank you to both ladies that we were helped by.we will definitely stay here again because of you!

Disinfectant spray in halls could not cover dirty rugs. Made my eyes water. Would not recommend

AC did not work.

Our stay was very short. We checked in a 11:30 pm and checked out 6:30 am. The room was clean and we did not need any service. We stayed on the 2nd FL. If someone could not climb the stairs you would have to request the 1st fl. No Elevators. All in All the stay served it's purpose. During check out we did have questions about directions and the front desk clerk was very helpful. Thank you, J.B.

Extremely satisfied with conditions of hotel and overall cleanliness.

The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The room and facilities were very comfortable, although during the night the room was a little too hot for my personal preferences. The outer part of the toilet could have been a little cleaner and the complimentary breakfast was not kept stocked with jam. On the whole a very satisfactory visit and I will be staying there when I visit again later in the year.

The room was not terrible but it was not clean. There were actual dust bunnies in the corners .No soap although the front desk was kind enough to give us one whole bar. lol. The TV was an old CRT. Haven't seen one of those for years. That being said there were no bed bugs and we got a nights sleep. We stayed at the Red Roof in Jacksonville the next night and it was twice as good for almost half the money. I won't go back to HoJos.

The floor was nasty and smelly and they buy a bottle of milk in the morning and bread and put it on a fridge. I guess that u pay less and you get less. Won't ever do it again:-(

When i got to my room which was around 11:30pm, the room that i had booked on the phone, was a king smoking, I got to the Hotel, the room was 2 double beds, and the room was awful it was full of urine smell, the beds was not made, I got another room, finally around midnight, the bathtub, was the worst part that room, it was full of long black hairs, the tv didn't work, i would never stay there again.

This hotel is underated when it comes to service. Clearly can stand next to the 4-star hotels. Phenomenal staff - professional & neatly groomed, clean rooms with white linen, well-maintained lobby, however, the continental breakfast could step up a knotch. Overall, OUTSTANDING!!!

Worst hotel we stayed in in the last 20 years. Two queen beds, of which one did not have linens changed. Floor had not been vacumed. Toilet bowl had not been cleaned. No and I repeat No hot water. Front desk not responsive to complaints. Indicated they had some issues. Breakfast was garbage compared to other hotels we stayed at. I would never book or recomend staying at a HJ . Because we were on the road for 13 hours we stayed rather than move on. We were told no other hotels had rooms available anyway.

Upon arrival, we were put into a smokiing room although my reservation confirmation through Hotels.Com clearly stated "non-smkoing". Hotel reservations clerk was hesitant to move us to another room and stated "she could get in trouble from the hotel manager for doing so". She finally agreed to put us in a non-smoking room and the first two did not appear to have been cleaned in months. Finally got into a reasonably clean room, but was far from satisfied with the total lack of cleanliness of the hotel overall and the unprofessionalism of the staff. I recommend that this hotel be avoided if at all possible.

There wasn't any hot water, the remote didn't shut off without physically getting up to do so, and no iron, though the board was there. Very disappointed.

Decent hotel for a one night stay. Close to a lot a places to eat. Staff were a little less than friendly and the lack of an elevator was a little bit of a pain.

Breakfast is same bagels, toast, two cereals. One morning ran out of milk, next oj was too froze. Pool will fit 10 people max and is advertised as small outdoor. Clean room, but outdated. no flatscreen. seriously should just be a late overnight stay or move on up. You are carrying every bit of luggage up peopel! Came a long way from home and was able to swim twice. Couldnt have known. but learned!

The "pool" is a joke. 4' x 10' x 4' deep is a big tub not a pool. The back door was propped open 24hrs a day for the whole stay. The remote didnt operate the power to the tv. Shower had almost no pressure.Parking lot is very small making it very difficult to maneuver. The wi-fi didnt work, got a better signal from hotel next door.

I was disappointed at spending so much for a hotel room that was not clean. There was visible spray tan on the outside of the bathtub and the base of the tub was visibly dirty. I woke to black ants crawling on me. When I turned on the heat on the wall unit, it set off the smoke detector at 11 PM and the room smelt of burnt dust for two hours. The stairs had remnants of spilled liquid that was sticky. I wish I could recommend it, but this had to be one of the worst stays I have had in a hotel.

The hotel itself was adequate for a quick stop-over. Nothing special, but very clean and comfortable. However, the hotel does NOT have an elevator. We were traveling with an infant and they insisted on putting us on the second floor. Also, there is no employee that mans the desk after hours. We checked out around 4am and I had to hunt somebody down to check out. Also, the front doors lock you out after hours and there is not an employee at the desk to let you back in. Overall, the hotel was inexpensive and comfortable, but definitely too much of a hassle to mess with again.

Lets see. Where to start. From the get go, there was no help at the front desk when I arrived. I had to go out front where they apparently were putting in plants. I had to ask for help to even check in. Got checked in ok. Not a very cheerful person to say the least. got up to my room and there is where the fun started. First, i pulled out the drawer to put some things in it. It fell on the floor. Ok. Lets try the next one. Oops, some thing happened to it. so now I have two dresser drawers on the floor, dare I try the third. Yep, it too decided to join the others. Ok, I guess I wont use the dresser. I put the drawers back and decided to watch some TV. The remote was no where to be found. I knew it was not in the drawers because i would have noticed as they all fell out on to the floor earlier. So I went old fashion on the tv. I turned it on manually. Great for me. Until there was no way to change the channels. So I went down to the front desk to let them know there was no remote. As I arrived at the front desk, by the way because there was no answer on the front desk phone, there of course was nothing going on there. Nobody. Nothing. Again I had to go outside and get a person to help me. She finally found a remote that would work and I headed back up to my room. It was on the second floor and this hotel conviently has no elevator. I get up to the room and turn on the tv. I had the volume up as high as it would go and you could not hear it over the sound of the AC unit in the room. So here I go again. I pack all my stuff up and head to the lobby. If i had not already paid for the room in advance I would have just kept going right out the front door and never looked back. So I finally get the girls attention one more time to come and address my issues. I get another room. great for me. I tread back up stairs, because they did not have a room on the first floor available even though I was one of about four cars in the entire lot. On my second room for the night and I

This hotel is old, dirty, and needs some extreme remodeling done. My husband and I stayed with our 3 children, ages 5, 3, and 18 months. We called ahead and asked for a crib to be in the room, and again at check-in. We never received a crib. My 18-month old slept with my husband and I. The hotel was so dirty, I told my girls not to take their socks off. I would stay elsewhere!!!

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel since we have two children under three we were traveling with that would be crawling around the room. The room was clean, smelled clean and we were able to get the extra pillows that we needed without a problem. The room was quiet and the breakfast was your average grab and go stuff. We would definately stay here again as we like to split up our long trips home with the kids.

When I booked this hotel, the price and the location was what sold me. But when I arrived, the room was not what I expected. It smelled heavily of a man's cologne, as if to mask some other smell. There was hair and dirt on the floor along the tub. The shower curtain holder was barely hanging on, resulting in the curtains not closing and the floor getting all wet. The location on the other hand was convenient in that it was close to restaurants and a pharmacy and grocery store. But the road was also busy with traffic since it was so close to the highway. Also, something that I found surprising was that the pool had to be the smallest pool I had ever seen at a hotel. I would not stay at this hotel again. I'd rather pay the extra money and have the peace of mind.

The HoJo at Beckley is disgusting. Its dirty, its loud and the service is terrible. I paid a bit more to stay at the howard johnsons, thinking it would be nice for my kids, but I was wrong. This place is the pits. It looks like the hotel survives on truckers staying there with call girls. This place is well past its prime and needs to close. There is a brand knew comfort inn next door, and the rates are about half of the howard johnsons.

When we first entered our room it was very very hot. We noticed someone had turned on the heat instead of the air conditioning. We tried to turn the air on but it didn't work. The knob was broken and we couldn't even turn the thing off. Called the front desk and was told to give it some time to recycle before the air would come on. 15 mins later it was still puting out hot air. Called the front desk again and they sent up a maintanance person. He walked in turned the knob a couple times and said it was broken....told them that on the phone. They gave us another room, but all they had was a somking room and with my allergies asthma it was not a good night.

Easy access right off I-77. Rooms were clean, but there was a lot of noise from others in the middle of the night. It was very nice having a Fridge and Microwave in the room. We had some items that had to be keep cold throughout the night.

The room was a good value for what we paid for it. The room was clean, but the bathtub in the bathroom was plugged for some reason. The staff was very friendly. I would stay there again.
