Beautiful old hotel, elegant lobby, well-run, large rooms, urban location with close walking distance to everything of interest, a few rough edges to the neighborhood but safe. Excellent concierge. A great hotel for a vacation in downtown Portland.

Very classy property; staff was great and concierge was incredible.

The staff was great and helpful. The concierges were very friendly and went out of their way to recommend excellent restaurants (Portland now has a great foody scene) and other sites of interest. The hotel is of a classic style, which someone looking for a modern business-type setting will not appreciate but we loved.

A neighbourhood gem of Portland with a magnificent lobby and amenities. Very dog-friendly and overall was a great stay. Only nuance was the older windows which permit street sounds to carry into the room, even when closed. On a Friday night especially there was quite a raucous but nothing out of the ordinary you wouldn't expect in a major city.

Got a decent rate from Hotels.com, it has a great central location, can be a little noisy from the street when bars are getting out. I don't think they have good enough curtains to keep the room dark, otherwise it was great.

Stayed during annual Rose Festival. Hotel provided private seating for the parade. Very nice touch!

Very classic, upscale hotel. Not as interesting and fun as some of Portland's boutique hotels.

It was a last minute stay, and we picked this hotel for location. We were pleasantly surprised with the professionalism and helpfulness of the staff. The hotel was clean and elegant. The room was a little small but very clean with all needed amenities. We were very pleased with our stay, and the fact that the hotel houses El Gaucho was an added bonus!

Great location, top notch service and a classic boutique style hotel. Champagne hour, good toiletries in a small but elegant setting in downtown Portland.

Under 40 staff unprofessional. Concierge very good, funny helpful guy. Typical? In SF and NYC you either do the job or get fired. Front Desk woke me up early when they couldn't figure out they were running my cc card incorrectly for incidentals. Got all pouty when I corrected her. Frowny and dismissive in the lobby after that. Wow. Immature. Good location, nice rooms, but aren't they all at that price? People OK but not great.

Overall we did enjoy the Benson, got a last minute deal through Hotel.com. It is an old hotel, but a classic one, reminds me of an old New York grandiose hotel. The location is excellent and the staff are super friendly. We had a room without a view, so noise was not a problem. The rooms are kind of small but we managed to fit our 2 bikes in the room and really how much time are you spending in the room. Only complaint would be the unclean toilet, I think someone forgot to do that. Other than that the room was clean.

Very disappointed Service slow Room tiny and old Needs to be refurbished Will never stay there again

Older hotel seems due for remodel, kept in clean good condition though. Bed was comfortable. 315am there was loud thumping that went on 5+ min in room above us.. sounded like broom handle hitting against floor iver and over.

We came to Portland for a marathon and couple of fun days. The Benson was amazing! The location was excellent and the rooms were beautiful. Thank you for providing exceptional service!

The staff was friendly and responsive. The food was good. I was walking distance to points of interest. All was well.

Wonderful service and accommodations. Restaurant was terrific! Enjoyed our stay. Within walking distance or the train station.

The Benson Hotel was a very clean and comfortable choice for our last minute stay in Portland. We found the hotel on hotels.com doing the search by highest to lowest star rating. Excellent value.

The only place where we got the service we expected was in the Lounge.

I have stayed at The Benson twice this year. It is a great hotel. The staff is extremely friendly!

Tub/Shower needed maintenance to fix a very slow drain. Booked two room and got assigned two rooms two floors apart without the staff asking if I wanted them close to each other, we found out after they handed us the keys.

Great breakfast cute piano bar very classy

The Benson is a lovely hotel, centrally located within walking distance of the Pearl District and Pioneer Square. The staff were extremely pleasant. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was for the very large rug stain in our room. Made the place go from classy to trashy. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom amenities were very nice. I'd stay there again and hope to get a room sans stain - especially for the price we paid.

The hotel itself is in a great location and the lobby is fantastic. The king deluxe room we stayed in was so so. Nothing fancy, very basic. The valet and door man never greeted us during our numerous in and outs. They were always on their phones texting or chatting amongst themselves. Not a big deal but just unprofessional. The check-in staff was quite pleasant. Overall a good experience but for the price i may check around since there are tons of hotels in the area.

great hotel

The Benson is my favorite hotel in Portland - It's right in the heart of the action, both for work and post-work play. The staff are friendly, and will suggest a variety of activity, if you haven't researched it prior to arrival. Very comfy rooms. A little "old-worldy," but charming. I really like sitting in the lobby with a beer, but then I've been called an "old soul," and I feel at home in architecture from an older era.

stay here

Nice hotel overall. Would stay there again. Front desk was friendly. Gave options for parking - doesn't have to be valet. Only thing that was odd was that we stayed 2 nights and the chamber maid forgot to clean our room after the first night. The front desk was very apologetic about it when I called after we arrived back at our room at the end of the day and found that our room had not been cleaned up. Enjoyed the hotel restaurant/bar - very friendly waiter and lots of local draft beers to try!

Friendly staff and the room is very clean! Swanky and close to all public transit!

The hotel was very nice with lots of beautiful wood in the Lobby and bar. The bed was very comfortable and I was very please to see a hotel in the downtown location that welcomed my dog as much as me.

It was a great stay and very close to all the sight's of the city. Parking rate is the most I have had to pay for any other city I have visited.

The room was comfortable and quiet -- and the hotel's location perfect for all of our local sightseeing.

I loved the beauty of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. I stayed there with my one-year-old daughter and we were both very comfortable. The staff, especially the breakfast wait staff, were very pleasant to my daughter and I. Our room was very clean, and the concierge and bellmen were prompt and efficient. I would most definitely stay here again as well as recommend the place to anyone looking for a well-situated, friendly, very classy, yet not at all pretentious hotel. It would make a nice romantic or family getaway. I was also satisfied with the valet service, although I will note that there are cheaper parking garages just a few doors down that I would probably consider using instead next time.
