Perfect locations and the service was great. Very clean and nice.

I am Colombian but leave in UK with my husband and my 4 year old boy. Cartagena is such a lovely place. The weather was fantastic. Hotel Caribe is not a 5 star but 4 I'd say. The Hotel was just perfect as we do not like boring tall buildings.Only 10 min away by taxi from old city . Clean, and very comfy beds. Bathroom a bit dark and old cealing but the rest very good. Cheap laundry. Standard breakfast. Neighbourhood is fine. Recomend Carulla as supermarket if needed, just 5 min walk. There are indeed aggressive vendors in the beach, but just walk nearby Hilton and may find more peace. Or ask for Tierra bomba- Pta arena the island just in front of Hilton and 10 min way, with better beach. Must go to Rosario Islands and Castillo de San Felipe.

Great place, love the pool

Beautiful hotel. Friendly and honest staff. The breakfast was superb; like a wedding feast. The grounds were well maintained, which provided a relaxing atmosphere. This is the only hotel which such beautiful grounds---an oasis. Colombia is a great country to visit and our family felt very safe. The restaurants were great as well; there are a variety of dining options that will fit any budget. It felt great to walk down the streets and see the city. One thing that needs attention are the sidewalks.

Superior rooms are decent though one night in lower standard was very poor. Pool is decent though music choice at pool poor

A good hotel. They are responsive and no surprises. A nice pool are. The restaurants a little pricier than they should be, but they are convenient. I slept well.

Caribe is generally good, but watch out for those who like excellent comfort. Most of the rooms have fixed a/c speed (very high) and temperature (about 60oF). I tried 4 rooms and none of them had thermostat working. I know there's only a bunch of rooms in the new section, with electronic thermostat. Another minor inconvenience: they no longer supply the minimar. Byo: bring your own (on the upside, it saves bucks$$ though).

This is a beautiful property with exceptionally helpful staff and a gorgeous pool. I was delighted and definitely would stay there again.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Cartagena at the Hotel Caribe. The location is perfect and close to everyhting. The room was wonderful, the free breakfast delicious and plentiful, the property outstanding and great for taking photos and the staff very helpful. The weekend was worth the rate. I want to go back. Be sure to take the horse-drawn carriage trip through the old town. The driver will fill you in on information about the area and the carriage gets to go places that other vehicles don't. Restaurants are close by and the food is wonderful. Be sure youe camera is charged so you can take many photos.

Classified as a historic monument in Colombia, this charming hotel is currently undergoing a major renovation. So you might be disturbed by some unwanted noise, but many areas are already restored to their original beauty. PROS: Rooms are nicely decorated and spacious. Free wi-fi. Pool area is great for both kids and adults. CONS: Hotel's location is not within walking distance to the walled city, so you might miss some of Cartagena's colonial charm. Nearby beach is definitely not the best one in Cartagena and it is full of vendors that will agressively try to get you to buy something from them. Beware!

This is the emblematic hotel in Cartagena, dating back to the forties. Well conserved and also has new premises. I like it very much and always stay there.

Everything is extra. Hotels.com indicated that breakfasts were included for children, but they were not. They did not have my reservation. I arrived on a Sunday and they had no way of retrieving it until Monday. They finally let me stay, but it was not a good experience. By the way the hotel says they are a 5 star hotel

I purposefully book my reservation to include breakfast (this is one of my main deciding factors when booking hotels), when we checked in at the hotel they said it didn't include breakfast for children in the room (not stated anywhere on the reservation) and that we would have to pay extra for our 7 year old daughter. They quality of the breakfast itself was very good. The housekeeping staff was very friendly, but the bathroom towels were very rough. I asked for different towels, but was told there were none available. We stayed at this hotel 2 different times during this trip to colombia, both rooms were in the Lagomar building, the first was great, the second had a really bad musty smell. Be prepared to pay extra for everything, printing a sheet of paper in the business center, extra breakfast charges for kids, and the food is ok, but very pricey. Oh and watch out, if you don't return your towel to the pool attendant by 9:00pm you are charged a fee. We went to the public beach accross the street twice, but it was a horrible experience with the vendors. We found alternate beach options after that, which was much more inconvenient, but worth it to avoid being hassled.

I thought it was a great hotel. I knew to ask for a new room on a high floor. Only problem was they try o charge an "insurance fee" for each day at the Hotel. As you check-in tell them you are not interested and don't want it. (They will tell you it is not optional) but, it is 100% and they will take it off. They also try to sneak in a donation charge for unicef on the check-out bill, but tell them to take that off also. Other than that, it is a reall ygreat Hotel. (Great jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, masage, juices etc. I wouldstay there again.

the Hotel Caribe is going through a renovation - the work did not disturb my stay but the hotel will benefit from an update the staff was extremely gracious and welcoming

The pool is big and nice.. The staff is helpfull. The rooms are clean..it does not have facilities to hang wet clothes.. Most of the guests were families with kids and poeple above 50.. so dont stay there if you look for party! The hotel have private tents! on the beach but starting from the moment you step on the sand, the message ladies and sellers start disturbing you.. Also the beach and see is not that nice.. Take a tour to near by islands to enjoy the beach and sea!..

Nice hotel with helpful staff. There was loud construction going on our entire stay and we were put in a room with 6 twin beds instead of the king bed we had requested. We were able to switch to a room with a queen bed and 4 twins but would have preferred to be in the other part of the hotel with nicer rooms where other guests in our group were placed.

not worth more than 3 stars. Hotel is not maintained well. breakfast is very poor rooms are reasonable

The overall maintenance of the Hotel is a litlle below my espectations for a 5 stars hotel. The room was really nice and very clean. The tour indications given by the Hotel staff were not the best

The Caribe is arguably the best hotel in Bocagrande; it is also one of the oldest and is showing its age. The staff at the Caribe was terrific and oveall the place is quite nice. There is a garden area with some interesting animals and the pool is quite pleasant. However, the hotel was built in 1940 and the rooms and the infrastructure need refreshing. The HVAC in our room was adequate but cranky and the lighting needs work. Nonetheless, it is probably the place to stay if you want to be in Bocagrande (but bear in mind the hotel does not have its own beach and the beaches in Bocagrande are not great).

This hotel was a little better than average but nothing too special about it. Do not plan on eating at the hotel because the food prices are triple what the are on the street. The beach is just across the street.

We stayed at the hotel for a family event, although the hotel was clean and nice it wasn't what we expected. Very difficult to enjoy the beach accross the street as it is not a private beach, therefore you have vendors harrassing you nonstop. Next time we will stay the at Hilton, more of the amenities we are used to and a private beach. Don't bother eating at the restaurant on site, not very good.

5 star hotel and experience at a 3 star price! Staying at the Hotel Caribe was a wonderful and pleasurable time culminating our month long trip in Colombia. The staff was professional and very helpful-every single person working for the hotel greeted us with a "buenas dias". The room, which we stayed in the newest building, was up-to-date with all the amenities needed to make our stay that more enjoyable. The surrounding premises of the hotel was grand, had a spectacular pool area, and grounds that included large parrots, monkeys, sloths, large iguanas, and roaming deer. Just a short 10 minute, 3 dollar cab ride to the heart of the walled city in Cartagena makes this location a must visit for all travelers looking for that elegant hotel experience at a very reasonable price..right on the beach!

Beware of what they give you and what you pay for.

The hotel was beautiful and the service was excellent. The hotel was close to banks, restaurants and supermarkets as well as to shopping. We always try to make friends with the staff because we feel we get better service and this was completely the case. The maids were very attentive and the groundkeepers were eager to show us around and show us the macaws, the deer and the sloth who reside in the hotel compound.

Hotel Caribe is a very comfortable hotel for the North American traveller but is definitely a Colombian hotel. The rooms are quite nice, comfortable, and well air conditioned. The grounds contains a large pool (which is too warm for my tastes but I guess a lot of people like their swimming pools to feel like a hot tub) and several different restaurants. The food in the restaurants was a little pricey I thought but not outrageous. The outdoor restaurant under the palapa has a mini-zoo at one end with monkeys and parrots. The lobby is very nice. I have stayed here twice and enjoyed it.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the hotel. Which it makes it hard to write a review. There is another property from a world wide brand not far away, which I could see lacked the overall ambience and character of the Caribe, and at a dearer price. So what are Caribe's 3 best features. For sure, the half Olympic-size swimming pool. And natural shade from the sun, if needed, in the way of trees round the pool. And the superb breakfasts. A downside - OK and it's not the fault of Caribe. The neighbourhood is good enough but a little down-market. The old town can be easily reached by taxi or a keen walker. The beaches, and Caribe has its own bit, are not quite Copacabana, but close. Would I choose a different hotel the next time. No way!

The food there is awful and there is no airconditioned restaurant so you must sweat it out under the hot sun for breakfast.. You need another shower right after breakfast. It is extremely basic for the money and the only thing it has going for it, is its proximity to the beach and a large lap pool for swimmers

Lovely Colonial style hotel on the beach. Our room with a view of the beach was superb. The pool area is spectacular. Service, cleanliness, breakfast buffet... virtually everything was wonderful. Front desk staff were very accommodating and helpful. We felt safe and pampered! The only unpleasant aspect of the stay at this hotel location was the incessant harassment on the beach by vendors. I doubt the hotel can remedy this, since most of the vendors wore an official license to operate. Highly recommend this hotel. I will definitely return.

I loved this hotel but the only minor issue were the pillows. They need to get down pillows for a hotel of this class. Otherwise, I had no complaints. It was fun, comfortable, clean and their food was delicious.

Great place to stay, the rooms were clean, updated, fantastic help. The price was a little high, however; the quality was worth it. Chris V

All the employees of the hotel are great and freandly very profesionals, needs a little improing in the beds.

Fuimos por 5 dias y nos la pasamos super bien, la gente del hotel nos atendio de maravilla, los empleados super amables, la habitacion super comoda, el desayuno completo y muy rico :) esta muy bien ubicado en una zona muy agradable, cerca dee tiendas y de un mercadito muy mono para comprar los souvenirs, la vista desde nuestra habitacion muy padre. No tengo mas que buenos comentarios respecto a este hotel... Muy recomendable :) El precio algo caro pero entendimos que era por la temporada de fin de año.

Dette hotellet er det eldste i Boca Grande. Det gir vitnesbyrd om en svunnen tid. Flotte områder. Store rom. Fint bassengområde. God service. Men det er dyrt i høysesongen når colombianske rikmenn skal vise seg fram. De har nylig fått en god internettforbindelse (2011). Anbefales!

Es un hotel que esta en mantenimiento. La torre colonial es hermosa pero la estan reformando. La torre del laguito le falta mantenimiento. El desyuno es bueno y la atencion tambien.
