The staff was courteous and helpful. The hotel and room were clean. Two issues we had were the bed, although comfortable, made a terrible sound when moving around even slightly. My girlfriend could not sleep all night but I slept fine. The other issue was the water temperature in the shower would not stay constant for more than 20 seconds. The bed noise is bad but if you can tolerate, not bad for the price which is less than surrounding areas.

I wanted a "cheaper" hotel for the three days before our recent cruise. Although I did not seem to take into account the amount of cheap this hotel provided. Although the view from our room was great, the glass was dirty, which was just plain disappointing. The hotel staff seemed semi nice, but were unwilling to check us in three minutes before 2, forcing us to wait in a line of eight or nine people, once they finally opened. The resturant in the lobby was old and dated, and old fifties theme, but the cars were rusty and the presentation was terrible. The pool was very cold and full of sand, and the hours of the bar by the pool were random to say the least, we tried to go to a happy hour and found the bar closed, on a friday night, during spring break. The hotel overall is "doable" for the price, but dont expect extravigence. The Hotel could be sooo much nicer if they just put some effort into it.

We stayed one night prior to boarding a cruise and wouldn't reccommend this hotel for any longer. The highlight was the park next to it and a wonderful Venezuelan restaurant within walking distance. It helped us forget about the hair clogged shower that would back up with yellow water.

This hotel is popular on its location only I think. This bordered on filthy conditions.

Bad experience. Outdated and needs major improvement as to facility maintenance and services. The room stinks! Has to change because of unbearable smell. Ordered food in the bar and when the food came, we smelled the rice is spoiled and the amount of food is way expensive with the quality of food. The waitress urged us to reorder forsomething else with frustrated facial reaction. To our dissappointment we left. Although the guy that took care of us in the front desk is nice and accepted our complain to be forwarded to management. Overall the hotel needs major overhauling and come down to price as what they asking. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

Great beach location. Free shuttle bus to South Beach and local tours. Hotel does need updated. Lots of cab services available, 15-20 min. to South Beach and 30 minutes to Port where lots of boat tours are available, shopping, and restaurants (Bayfront Harbor Marina---highly recommened must see.) Downfall--cash only accepted in restaurant when we were there????

Very cost effective and exactly what I needed, but not in the centre of the action ... long beautiful beach without the huge crowds. Great decor with veteran cars and '60's art. The room was 'basic' but spacious and comfortable. Very helpful staff

While on Miami Beach this hotel is at least 16 blocks from any restuarants or shops. Some of the staff were wonderful but several were almost surly. We arrived off a cruise ship at 10:30 Am adn were advised that early check in was not available-we would have to wait until 3PM. At 3 pm about 25 peaople in the lobby jumped up to register. I was first in line but was advised that my room would not be available for another 5 minutes. 15 minutes later I checked back and was told it would not be ready for another 10 minutes. Finally at 4 PM when I checked back again and it was still not ready another staff member found us another room. The door to this room looked to havebeen breached with a crowbar and they had left the battered door on and only added new locks - a litle disconcerting. The restuarant that you are more or less forced to use unless you came be car and want to take a taxi is styled like a 50's dinner with the seats looking likethe back end of a 1956 Chev. Belair. Food was okay but nothing to write home about and we were a little disconcerted to note that an 18% gratuity had been added to our party of two.. Nice pool and access to the beach but we will not returen.

great location easy to get aroud to site see, beach is great . unfourtunately the condition of the room I stayed in was not what I expected. I have stayed here several times and it seems the condition is being let go by the wayside. The hotel needs some major TLC. pool floor is chipping and breakfast area is not what it should be, they really need to take some time and clean up the place, I will say housekeeping did a great job when it came to cleaning up the room, but the condition of the actual room (bathroom especially ) was not what I expected from them.

The picture of the hotel makes it look like it has been updated and when you get there it's another thing. Will not be staying in this one again

The pictures are blatant lies or at least exaggerations and the service was horrendous. They wouldn't do dry cleaning for us and every time we spoke with an employee they were just trying to get you away from them as quickly as possible (if they even spoke English). The beach nearby is terrible and the location was way out of the way of anything cool. The ONLY positive was that the HoJo has now become big joke sarcastically saying "Well this place is nice but it is no Howard Johnson". I absolutely urge you to stay away from this place.

Service sucked, the hotel that is displayed in the pictures is not the hotel that actually exists. The only good thing about this hotel is the beach. Besides that it is absolutely worthless and should be demolished.

Hotel parking lot always full, had to park in the road, and the hotel charged a hideen fee of $11.00 per day. Total ripoff. Coffee machine broken in room, hairdryer broken, burned up in room. Girl at desk unfriendly, Hotel old and dirty.

Not a very good hotel at all. Dirty rooms, very outdated, ice machine on 2 floors out of order. Pop and candy machine on 3 floors not working.

NEGATIVES...Hotel stinks! Old sunken mattresses! Creepy looking hallway! Outdated, smelly, dirty rooms and bathroom! Dirty linen! Unfriendly staff! Worst hotel ever! POSITIVES...Right on the beach, restaurant was nice and relaxing Overpriced cheap motel!!!!

Front Desk staff inept at confirming a pre-booked reservation at the time of checkin. In general all staff members less than friendly. Service in restaurant pitiful - waited an hour to have order served. Given the excuse they were buzy which was not true !

Completely different from photos of the hotel. The hotel is very old and needs fundamental renovation... Besides, our room was not properly cleaned! I will never go back to this hotel!!!

The hotel was in decent shape. Hotel has appeared as if it hadn't been renovated in quite some time. The check-in and check-out process was very easy, but this may be due to the impersonalization of the staff. The one staff member that we did find helpful was the staff in charge of calling us a cab. The restaurant is about as run down as the hotel, which was to be expected. The continental breakfast is nothing more than bread and water. The buffet food was okay but is overpriced for what you get. Keep in mind that gratuity is included in the bill for the buffet, although you do all of the work. The hotel is right on the beach, however. The surrounding area/neighborhood is okay. Probably not ideal for most tourists because it is far from the main shopping centers and restaurants.

All I can say, the price was almost right. But then again may be too much. It is extremely noisy. No carpets in rooms or hall ways. So just imagine people dragging their suitecases or cleaners opushing their carts on tiles... Feels like trying to sleep in train NY Grand Station near the tracks.... Plus the walls must be raisor thin. As you could hear all your neughbours breath. Not to mention all their conversations almost in HD quality....What can I say.. next time we know better.....

Really good beds

Its an ok hotel. The beach is really nice and right outside the back of the hotel. It has a nice pool. The rooms are clean enough to stay a night or two. I never saw the restaurant open there. It is a 30 minute walk to Surfside where the nearest restaurants are. It is pretty quiet in the rooms and all the rooms have different names.

The hotel room was very interesting. No carpet on the floor and the walls are paper thin. Also, the bathrooms need to be remodeled, where there were holes around the tub, sick etc., they were just patched with no real skill put into it. Last, realy need to have people working that knows something about Miami. I asked for directions to the James L. Knight center upon arrival and before I was leaving for the event. No one could tell me how to get there.

The location is great, as well as the service. The hotel needs some updates. The beach is clean and nice. Not bad for the price.

All good except the Bold dude at the lobby...ceck in time

I felt like I got a heck of a deal from this reservation!! This Howard Johnson was a really nice one, with great amenities. Not to mention all of the cool cars and amazing pool/deck area with the beach steps away. My only complaint would be that the staff were not very friendly, all about business and that there was a mix up with my reservations, but that was handled (not as quickly as I would have liked)! Overall.....great choice!!

Had been upgraded in a bedroom facing the ocean. Pleasant stay of one night, nice swinnig pool with jaccuzzi and old car decorating the restaurant. I would be plesaed to return.

I had stayed here twice previously but the bathroom in this room we got this last time was aweful. Looked as if they tried doing some remodeling to the bathroom and that is was done by a 5 yr old. The bathroom and the rooms need updating ASAP and a lot of fixing up mainly to the bathrooms. Other than that the lobby area and the back area and the pool area are nice.

Customer service was poor and cleanliness left alot to be desired. Location was great and the surrounding neighborhood was good.

Too expensive for the kind of accomodation

We've stayed at this hotel several times, even before it was a Howard Johnson. It's not fancy, and the property is getting old, but they are trying to maintain things, with new paint here and there, and you can tell they are indeed making efforts. The location is great, right on the beach, right on the bus route, and the hotel shuttle is nice too, even though they cut back the schedule this year. The daily resort fee includes chairs for the beach, and towels for the beach and/or pool area. They are a little too quick to close up shop for the chairs if the weather turns, but otherwise it's nice to have. The hot tub was great, and I used it every night. English is definitely a second language here, so be prepared for that. Everyone understands it, but they don't all speak it very well. Front desk staff was wonderful, even when we had special requests on our room. Every year, we talk about finding another spot for the next year, yet we keep coming back anyway!

Hotel not near restaurants from walking distance. No air conditioning in elevators and especially the lower basement laundry room (no windows or close to an exit) service elevator is the only access and it was snail crawling slow. Rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable and view of ocean beautiful.

Arrived at 1 pm - early, I know. "No we don't have any of your type rooms available - how about upgrade for a charge" No thanks - off to work. Back after 6, still pushing upgrade. Staff seemed bothered by guests. I have stayed before and it is convenient, but a little attention would change the whole experience. Clean room, quiet, all else good value

From the moment I waled in to check in....I had to wait over 30 minutes...The girl at front desk told me to have a seat while she talked on the phone.....Then another couple walked in and she forgot that I was there and checked them in ahead of me. Oce I was finally able to get some service, the room wasn't ready and had to wait another 30 minutes, even though it was already an hour past the advertised check in time. Pool was closed and I was never informed. Overall, I wouldn't pay motel prices for a stay at this hotel!

We asked for a fridge as we checked in and were upgraded to a larger room with a balcony :) that was great. They have the beach right in the back and they provide beach chairs and umbrellas. They also walk food and drinks from the restaurant out to the beach for their guests. We had a great experience and loved the hotel it is huge and has great space. All that is needed is a good marketing team! Almost forgot I love the spa I am a local and I use their spa all the time.

This was by far the worst experience I've had at a hotel. The elevators in the front did not work and our room was on the 7th floor. As a result the entire building as well as the workers and their cleaning carts all had to use one elevator located in the back. We usually had to wait around 10 minutes. The staff was not very friendly and the manager was not in and could not take complains. There was no internet in the room,key cards didn't work.

my overall stay was horrible. first lets talk about comfort of the room, although the a/c was on high and set at 60 degrees the room still felt hot. the water flow in the shower was weak and the hardware around the tub were loose. i also requested a microwave be put in the room and i never recieved it. on our last day there housekeeping never touched the room, trash was pileing up.. the only good feature the room had to offer was a view of the ocean. parking was horrible, it felt like black friday at walmart trying to find a spot.. i can go on and on about how disappointed i was with this hotel but i wint waste anymore of my time!!

It was not a good experience. The hotel staff was rude, maid service was lacking and the accommodations were not accessible for my husband in his wheel chair.
