Exeter Inn - إكسيتر

Phillips Exeter Academy built the Inn in 1932 for family and guests of the students. Picture the families taking the train from Boston, walking the several blocks to the Inn, gathering with the student in one of the parlors or eating in the dining room. The Academy is several blocks up the street. The Exeter inn's rooms are the size of a small but comfortable and functional dorm room containing a full bahroom and closet. They are modernized in keeping with he '30s but have luxurious ammenities like nice soap, thick robes, generous bedding and pillows and flat screen tv. We loved the room and slept soundly. Excellent price for the breakfast. Easy access to the rest of Exeter as well as highway. Quinticential New England town with prestigious high school, period architecture down town with all the chains near the highway. Perfect for a destination.

Clean, convenient, pleasant, inexpensive

Clean, comfortable, quiet, convenient access to Exeter Academy. What else would ask for in such a remote small town?

room was small and so was the bed

only stayed one night as we were visiting friends, very comfortable and relaxing feeling, didn't get to check out the bar, but breakfast was nice having choice of continetal or standard breakfast fare, very reasonable and polite staff. Chocolate chip cookies were great.

Most on the stay was great despite the hotel pipes being frozen, but the bartender/restaurant staff seem to be on a power trip--they need to realize that they are there as part of the hotel, and not as part of a beach bar. Cater to the client, fellas!

I loved it. I wish I could have enjoyed the facilities longer (checked in at midnight and left at 7:30am). The cookies were great; the robe was nice and soft; the bed was perfect; and I really appreciated the Gilchrist & Soames bath products.Nice job trying to modernize a very old building (lots of plugs and lighting was pretty good). The restaurant/bar looked great. Coffee was excellent. Very good location and lots of parking. I will definitely stay there again instead of the chain hotels.

It is a classic small hotel that was recently updated. They don’t build them like this anymore. Though it only has 42 rooms, there is a great restaurant and bar. It is near the center of town and surrounded by historic houses. I have stayed here many times, including before the renovations. It is a nice change from the chain hotels.

We stayed at the Exeter Inn to be near family, who live in the area. The room was over-crowed with a king bed and large desk. (We booked a queen bed) We hit the desk every time we went around the bed. Not much room to put your luggage. The bathroom had mildew on the walls & ceiling. No screen in the bathroom window. So could not open the window, to let the humidity out from the shower.

Enjoyed our dinner and overnight stay. Room was a little small but comfort able.

We have been staying here every summer for a multi day horse show. It is clean, quaint and charming. Excellent food and nice to get a warm cookie in the evening. Walking distance to town with lots of shops and restaurants. Highly recommend.

Great older inn; staff were fabulous both on the phone when making a reservation and in person during our stay. Front desk staff came right up and helped us when the cable TV wasn't working and immediately moved us to another room when it couldn't be repaired quickly. One complaint - the shower with the half glass wall does not work at all. No matter how you angle the showerhead, the water gets sprayed to the outside floor. We went through at least one extra bath towel per shower to dry the floor off. Also, the window in the bathroom was stuck or painted shut - couldn't open it. Given this old inn doesn't have fans in the bathroom, having that window open would have been nice - it becomes like a humid icky sauna. Otherwise, we loved the stay. The bed was great; the cookies and turn down service each night very nice! We will stay here again if in Exeter.

In one word my stay at The Exeter Inn was DREADFUL!!!!! My daughter and I were returning from a weekend with family in Massachusetts. We decided to stay in NH an extra night on our way home to Maine to race in a half marathon the following morning in Hampton Falls, NH. Although the hotel is beautiful, the night we stayed there was a wedding at the hotel. The music was very loud and directly outside our room. Additionally, in the room directly next to our room there was a very drunk, very loud guest screaming about the wedding he had just attended. It went on ALL NIGHT LONG. Needless to say, we did not sleep at all. We went to the half marathon and because we were so tired we did not race and only ran the course. The price of the hotel and $140 for the half marathon wasted. Perhaps The Exeter Inn should keep all wedding guests on one floor away from all other guests. I will never stay at The Exeter Inn again.

The only drawback to our stay was the size of the room. Very cozy though. The homeade cookies were delicious and such a personal touch.

This hotel served its purpose but that is all. Cold shower due to no warm water in the am. Very Very tiny room and noisy.

I can't see how this hotel can have a 3.5 star rating. I do a lot of business traveling and when I pay for a 3.5 to 4 star hotel I expect something a little nicer than a "motel". The room was notoriously small. It was like staying in a room the size of a large closet literally! Nothing is really included in the package other than the room and a couple of cookies on the room desk. It was just awful! The room I stayed in is classified "junior queen". It should be renamed "CLOSET converted to a room and given fancy name so we can book it out but it's still a closet". The front desk girl called it "cozy", I think she was just being nice or was instructed to say that. Bottom line? NEVER AGAIN!

There was a wet area on the rug in the room. Upon leaving the coffee was almost empty and little milk available. All the hannels for the tv did not appear until the evening.

I only stayed one night while visiting a family member but I would definitely stay there again. I had reserved a room with one queen bed for myself and my granddaughter. A grandson decided to go at the last minute and the inn upgraded me to a room containing two queen beds without an additional charge.

Our room was upgraded for free to a much larger room so after a long drive it was nice to be able to have the space to relax in. Yes as noted by some other reviewers the wall paper was coming off the walls but since it was only in the bathroom and I didn't have to sleep in there I couldn't care less. Lots of nice touches though were evident in the bathroom (loved the sinks they looked like two wash bowls, the thick glass wall of the shower was spotless) so the wall paper really didn't bother us. A little far removed from some things but close enough to the highway on ramp to get to where more action can be found. Overall I would stay there again and would gladly let my friends in on this nice little hotel.

Hotel was really nice and comfortable.

We were very unhappy. It seem expensive for what we were getting. Room was very small and you can hear the hair blower 3 rooms down the hallway. I would not recommended it.

Very cozy New England hotel with almost a B&B feel to it. We were very happy to stay at this property on our romantic night on the coast. I would strongly encourage anybody to give this place a try.

Only thing I did not like was that it was so comfortable I over slept!

It was very nice yet I noticed that the lamp shade on the light next to the bed was a mess on the underside. You would only notice it if you were lying down. It needs to be replaced.

The hotel was beautiful and charming but was in need of room repairs (at least the one I was in) Wallpaper pealing, not just a corner, and water was rusty even after running it for a long time. Generally clean just in need of repairs.The staff was fantastic and the drinks at the lounge were crafted works of art and plentiful! If they put a bit of TLC in the rooms the place would be perfect!

This was an especially lovely Inn. The room was absolutely beautiful and extremely clean. We were upgraded from a king to a king suite which was a very generous surprise! We tried the cocktail lounge, which was great and had some unusual house specialties. There were freshly baked cookies at the front desk. The Inn also offers an evening turndown service, which was another wonderful touch (again, fresh cookies). And, finally the complementary coffee in oversized mugs at the desk in the morning was a very welcome treat. We went to the Inn's brunch and it was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced! All in all, a real treat! We would definitely go back!

The Exeter Inn is a nice place, but the room we stayed at was almost comically small. It lacked a dresser and all but the smallest table. A queen-sized bed took up nearly the entire space. The bathroom was so small that you had to tuck yourself into the corner to close the door and the there was virtually no counter space in there. It's an old hotel, and my guess is there is little they can do on the size of some rooms, but they ought not to be renting those to two people.

We came here for my wife's birthday and loved it. 0 complaints or concerns. We were even upgraded to a suite so that we'd have a place to store our bicycles. Turn down service had chocolate chip cookies....better than chocolate. As a surprise, we hit town to find the Exeter UFO Festival there at the same time.......Take it where you will. Will (not "would"...WILL) stay there again. Couldn't be happier.

We enjoyed the one night's stay while we were there for the Seafood Festival in Hampton beach. It was easy to get to, the bed was comfortable, the room was nice but small. I thought rates for the room was a little on the expensive side. Also there was only one robe and 1 pair of slippers, what about if there's two people staying in the room. Also slippers should be washed and changed from guest to guest, just a suggestion. Other than that we enjoyed our one night stay.

These rooms are very small. I am a thin guy, but I couldn't even sit at the desk without moving the bed backwards by 12". Also, be warned that the hotel uses hot water radiator heat. Great during the winter, I'm sure, but until they turn on their heating system, the rooms are cold during cool late summer/fall evenings.

Very nice Inn but the room was very small. Hardly had room to walk around the bed. This was a big negative in our eyes.

This is a great old hotel made new. Everything is renewed while keeping the good old bones. Almost across from the Phillips Exeter School is a great place to stay for visiting family. Rooms are on the small side (ours was a junior queen, requiring some tight navigation around the bed) but very well appointed with good quality furniture and flat screen TV plus free and fast wifi. Bathroom is modern with small but well utilized space and lots ot towels. There was even a good size table if one needed work space. The bar is a great space for meeting old locals and for a quick dinner and drinks. Breakfast, while not included was reasonably priced and of exceptional quality. Summary: highly recommended

We just got back from our stay at The Exeter Inn and can't wait to come back! We stayed in a junior suite (it was small) but it met all of our needs. We were greeted by very courteous staff at the front desk and the pleasantly surprised when we were given homemade cookies as part of turn down service!! We had breakfast on the beautiful patio at Epoch (restaurant on premises) the morning we checked out...big mistake because we wanted to stay even longer at The Exeter Inn afterwards! The Exeter Inn is just 25 min from Hampton Beach and 20 min from Kittery Outlet Malls and 15 min from Portsmouth. This is why we have to come back...we just did not have enough time to enjoy The Exeter Inn or the town of Exeter as much as we would like!

You will love this place as a get-away from the hustle of the owrld - Plenty of shops and plenty of art galleries abound- porstmouth nh is close by for music and more dining the inn is very comfortable and unique with the academy nearby for great walking paths

This hotel is clearly an old building, but it has all the modern conveniences (flat screen tv, free wi-fi, etc.). It's the little extra touches they do that make it so special. Such as a cozy terry robe and slippers in the closet and home-made cookies delivered to your room in the evening and turn-down service. Our room was quite small so I would probably upgrade when we go again. Since it was only my husband and myself and 2 nights, it was just fine though. I would recommend to family and friends!

We loved the inn. Our room was very nice, clean, bed super comfortable, digital thermostat, cookies waiting for us on arrival, really really nice. My only complaint is that we went to the restaurant for sunday brunch and it took so long that we decided to leave before we even had the chance to order (which was after about 15 minutes of sitting there, no exaggeration, while the waitress and hostess talked among themselves). they also did not even notice that we were leaving....other than that, it was excellent.

The place to stay in the biutiful city of Exeter, NH. The Jr Queen Room was a bit small but the charm of this historical (and hopefully renovated) hotel made it a great experience. We will come back!

A very nice hotel in a beautiful historic town. Very nice touches - bath robe, cookies in room in the evening. Enjoyed our stay immensely.

Sadly, I was very dissappointed with this hotel. The rooms were not clean (floors in bathroom were filthy, hair in shower drain). The hotel needs serious renovation. The carpets smell of mildew, there was very little counter space available in the bathroom, and there were no screens on three of the 4 windows in our room. Lastly, the wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom, and there was cracked and broken tiles in the shower. The hotel front desk/ and housekeeping service was lacking. We asked for towels and never received them (there was only one set of towels in the bathroom for two adults. There were a couple positive aspects about the hotel. One, the turndown service was a nice touch and included fresh baked cookies. Second, the hotel restaurant and bar were fantastic. Very contemporary in contrast to the rest of the hotel. We had dinner and brunch at the restaurant and the food was awesome!
