We arrived late in the evening and had been allocated a smoking room which smelt - to change to a non- smoking room cost an extra 20 euros. We had requested a non - smoking room and staff were indifferent to this and unhelpful. We tried a snack in the bar , very hard stale bread rolls and ages to get served. Not a great welcome. The hotel is advertised as having a shuttle service to the airport - this is a private taxi which costs 35 euros. The location is excellent and the rooms are clean and comfortable but overall it was very disappointing especially as it's rated four star and recommended in some guide books. We did not enjoy our stay there and would not use the hotel again.

Hotel was convenient to main tourist attractions. Clean and easy to get to. Very close to the metro.

There is no way another hotel will be better located than this one in Madrid if you are going to walk around the historic center of Madrid. Minutes away from the Palace, the Cathedral, Puerta del Sol, Mercado San Miguel, etc. The rooms were clean and nice. A bit old the furniture but in great shape. The people on the front desk were so nice and they always wanted to make our stay great. The internet was sufficient to receive/send e-mails and connect iPad, Blackberry, and Laptop. Not super fast, but decent.

We were hoping to get a hotel close to Sol. The hotel is at least 10 minutes walk from Sol. While it is close to Metro, it is not on any main street.

This is a nice, older hotel in an awesome position in Madrid. Close to 3 Metro stations - get anywhere easily! Large rooms with good service - unfortunately no jug - but this seems to be common in Europe.

My second stay in this hotel in the past few months. Conveniently located, a short walk from the centre and good public transport. I arrived into my room and there was a bad odour which seemed to come from the drains. I advise reception and they immediately proposed a change of room and had their maintenance check out the problem. I accepted the offer of a change of room which was fresh and well aired. The wifi did not work well in my room though elsewhere in the hotel it was fine.

central location, comfortable room. Service so-so, but can be very noisy on a weekend with a pub and traffic esp during early hours like 2 to 5am,

It was an amazing dream trip to Spain and was even lovelier with the marvelous services of TRYP Madrid Ambassador Hotel ... the staff was so friendly and professional and they offered as welcoming amenities and free breakfast on the first morning and they upgraded our room for free when they knew it was our honeymoon trip ... and everything else was just great ... I would recommend this hotel to everyone who thinks about having a Romantic vacation in Madrid.

Great hotel and all the staff were friendly. The breakfasts were good value and excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Very comfortable, friendly staff and very good location near to all the major attractions in Madrid.

We loved this hotel, from all the hotels we have stayed at in Spain over the past month this one was our favourite. A grand old hotel, in a great location - we had a very comfortable bed and pillows and regretted that we had booked an apartment for 6nights for our return trip to Madrid as we would have preferred to go back to this hotel....Would definitely recommend it and would stay there again!!!

The high level of noise is mostly coming from inside the hotel...cleaning, moving furniture etc...

This hotel is in a great location. Convenient to take the Metro from the airport to the hotel. Walking distance to everything. Only drawback...noisy in the room in the morning. Heard lots of slamming doors and other noises in the hallways.

Good hotel, the area was OK but a little edgy, close to centre of Madrid, staff were OK but not very helpful, didn't offer to help with bags etc. Also not very helpful when asked about trains out of Madrid

This hotel was the best hotel of my Europe trip this time!Great staff,especially the woman who speak English and work late night.She is very friendly,gave us great advice. I stayed with my mom and she loved it too. Room was HUGE.Nice hardwood floor.Sunny room.Good size bathroom.desk,couch,table and there is still more space. Breakfast was the best too(we stayed in 5 different hotels on this trip)!So many different bread,yogurt,fruit.Everybody was friendly.I'll stay here again!!!

Hotel is very convenient to major sites in the old town center and Plaza Mayor. Hotel was well appointed. Would recommend this hotel. Staff very professional and helpful.

Second time staying in this hotel - excellent. Very clean, excellent location close to all central sights and very polite and attentive staff. Plan to use this hotel on future trips to Madrid.

Very close to central area, helpful staff, clean room

The room was quite nice, but the airconditioner woke me out of a sound sleep whenever it kicked on. The staff was friendly and polite. The hotel is on a steep hill, which may be problamatic for some. The location is very good, a short walk to the center and about a 30-minute easy walk across town to the Prado museum. The hotel needs refurbishing, so I would recommend it only at a discounted price. I did not use any service other than the wake-up call, which was automated but still could only ring once, so don't oversleep!

The hotel is very elegant and in a great location. Just a few minute walk to the Royal Palace and all of the busy streets. The hotel is actually on a quiet street and is great for peaceful sleeping, except for the two beds pushed together for a "double".

This is an oldish hotel in a great location. Unfortunately that is where the good stops. The room I was in stunk and was noisey. The bed had no matresss cover and one stuck to the matress. The air conditioning sounded like a 747, cycling on and off. Oh yes the internet was weak and did not work in the room. I did not have breakfast because the deal doesn't give you a room with breakfast even though sometimes it is cheaper to get the same rate at the hotel with breakfast.

Great Location. Size of the room is reasonable for European standards (old building) and a decent breakfast. You might have problems with the acustic isolation and hear people in the room next door.

The room and hotel was very clean. The beds were comfortable and had nice linens. The room itself was very specious and modern. Great location to sites. Wireless internet was very fast. All in all the hotel experience was great. Except for the female receptionist was very rude and unhelpful.

Excellant location, for the Metro, with surrounding sights, sounds or just people watch, close by. Hotel bathroom looked a little tired, paint wise, but very spacious as well as the room. Staff was very helpful and the breakfast was great!

-- location was great - 1 block from the Royal Theatre, 3 blocks from the Royal Palace, a few short blocks to the Plaza Mayor, 3-4 blocks from the busy Gran Via - all good walking distances. -- close to bus and Metro routes. -- 3 blocks from the Tour Bus company, for excursions -- hotel's included breakfast & restaurant were very good -- close to many restaurants -- very helpful and pleasant staff -- very clean & well-presented 4* hotel

We could not control room temp.

My husband and I had an overnight layover in Madrid on our way home from a weeklong stay in Italy. We needed something easily accessible by public transportation, within walking distance of food and main attractions, yet comfortable before a long trip home. This hotel fullfilled our needs beautifully. We couldn't have asked for a better locale, tons of pedestrian traffic and tons of tapas. San Miguel Market, Plaza Mayor about 16 gorgeous churches and not enough time to do it all. We got just a small taste of Spain, and are hungry for more. When we return, I'd like to stay at the Tryp ammbassador again. My one complaint (very common in Europe so take it with a grain of salt) is that our queen bed was actually two twins pushed up next to eachother.

This hotel is on a tiny street close to many tourist attractions. When you walk in it smells beautiful and the rooms are really nice. It is a great hotel and I would stay here again.

Good room and professional staff making it a good base for exploring the city. Free WiFi being a definite bonus as was the air conditioning. Avoid breakfast; it is very expensive for such basic offerings and of such low quality - cold baked beans and poor coffee being the particular highlights. Get off the Metro at Santo Domingo - the hotel is down hill from there which helps when arriving with suitcases.

Excellent location and outstanding customer-oriented staff... never seen anything like it.

Nice old fashion hotel with very good breakfast. The Wi-Fi comes and goes, the beds are extra firm. Ask twice about the prices at the bar, some items are not updated.

This was a great location- one block from the Royal Palace and short walk to Plaza Mayor. They gave us the family room we requested which was comfortable for 3 or 4. The only problem was we couldn't get the a/c as low as we would have liked since it was an old hotel, but we managed since it was April and not July. A nice European ambiance with pleasant bar and dining room. Highly recommended!

The hotel staff was completely accomodating. The location is perfect. Madrid is a great walking city and this is the perfect location to start. In addition, the excellent metro system has a number of stops to get you around the city. Exceptional.

Lovely hotel in a quiet street in central Madrid close to all sights and shopping. Very nice and helpful hotel personnel. Lovely breakfast. The only complaint I have is a very hard bed in our room.

The hotel staff was very kind and helpful, despite our language barrier. The hotel's location is ideal. Close enough to the commotion to walk to easily, but far enough to not be loud at night. Across from hotel is a really nice cafe with good food and the metro stop is super-close. The rooms were cute and the mini balconies are nice. The only problem was too thin of walls--we kept hearing our neighbors conversations word for word.

This location is terrific for getting around Madrid either on foot or by Metro. It is convenient and in a great neighborhood. We enjoyed exploring, particularly via the pedestrian malls. Exceptional for the money.

This hotel is very central and it's proximity to the subway makes other parts of the city easily accessible. The bedroom was sapacious with lovely wooden floors. My only criticism is that the bathrooms are very dated (we are talking peach 70's bathroom fittings and a shower curtain).
