Waterfront Hotel, a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel - أوكلاند

The perfect location in Jack London Square. 1 Block to Yoshi's. Plenty of restaurants, jazz clubs and a short walk to the ferry to the baseball park in SF.

The front desk and bellmen were excellent. The room was adequate but fairly outdated in terms of decor. In light of that and the proximity to active freight train tracks, I thought the price point should have been lower. The location was very convenient for my purposes.

It was great!

Great location; tired hotel; could use some updating......staff was nice and helpful. Coffee and clean towels...no other amenities. Be forewarned--$25 per day parking!

35 $ car parking charge was not dislosed

Hotel has a great overall feel. The only reason for 4 stars is that the doors to the hallway are very thin. Everything else was very nice and well made. We found it almost hilarious how the door seemed to be made of paper.

Big room and very comfortable. Free Wi-Fi & pets allowed. It is very good choice for stay in with family vacation.

My mom, son and I loved this spot. Great service and great food. Only downer was the forced, costly valet parking. I would stay here again!

No problem with the friendliness of the hotel staff and location. However the hotel is in desperate need of upgrades. WiFi is slower than dial-up (even the paid upgrade is very slow. The 3G phone's internet is truly faster. No Joke.) Would be nice if they offered ethernet connectivity for alternative internet access. The air conditioner broke down every day of my stay. Breakfast bagel was very expensive and the small bagel delivered to my room was very hard. Sound proofing of the room was also poor. The sound of the loud train passing by is heard loudly even on the water side.

Great place, nice people and wonderful location. A quick jaunt to the ferry to get us to AT&T park, and then dropped off right at the gate.

Customer service rocks! Employees were courteous ad friendly. Location was great not bad. I think they would've been a much better experience if they had upgraded to today's modern needs. The WiFi they offered free or paid are the SLOWEST I'e experienced. The 3G on my iPhone was so much faster! You'd imagine that I would have an option to use the ethernet to plug on my notebook for a faster connection, but they don't even have that option. WiFi only. The air condition in my upgraded waterfront room was broken everyday. My room was a hot 77 degrees daily. Perhaps they could've moved me to a different suite, but moving for the second time was such a hassle after unpacking for a 4 day stay. They sent the engineer to fix it but would break again the next day. Found a mouse trap under my bed. That FREAKED me out! Room service food quality was nasty. A high priced bagel for some creme cheese and a very small portion of the salmon, not to mention the VERY hard smurf sized bagel. Don't think I would be coming back anytime soon. Very disapointed.

LOVED LOVED this hotel!!! Located right in Jack London Square, footsteps to everything! Beautiful scenery, great places to eat and also if you are looking to have a cocktail, many places in walking distance. Plan on making this my place of choice when staying in Oakland.

I was upgraded to a balcony, which was very nice. It was a sunny morning, so we enjoyed breakfast out on the balcony overlooking the dock. We saw some large ships go by. Front desk staff were very pleasant. We had a bad experience with room service. We ordered breakfast, but they lost our order and one hour later we called and they had no record of the order. The room service is through the cafe, which is a separate entity, but the front desk staff still intervened and tried to get our order straightened out. Food finally arrived over an hour after the order was placed. Otherwise, a wonderful little place on the docks of Jack London Square. Will definitely stay there again.

I was very happy with my stay at the Waterfront. I had read reviews about the train noise and the srrounding area and I was a bit weary. I came to Oakland to see several shows at Yoshi's and I could not have picked a better place. Upon check in I had asked for a quiet room and the desk person told me the quieter rooms are sea side and they were booked up. She told me to call anytime if I wanted to change rooms if any noise bothered me as the front desk is available 24/7. She also assured me the rooms have triple panedglass windows. When I got to my room I was surprised how nice it was. It looked newly refurbished and was very clean. The bed was great and the sheets high quality. Even the toiletries in the bath room smelled nice. Yoshi's is across the street so it was very easy to jump back and forth from my room to the venure all weekend (I had tickets for 4 shows). I am a light sleeper but the noise from the street or the train did not bother me at all, in fact I could barely hear any of it. There are lots of restaurants you can walk to right in the harbor area. The BART is about 8 blocks away, so it is like a 10 min walk or less. I jumped the BART and hit San Fran during my stay and it was very easy. love the fact this place free happy hour during the week (nice cheese and wine) and free coffee in the mornings. I HIGHLY recommend staying at the Waterfront. I will the next time I am in Oakland.

Second time here. Staff very helpful in relocating our room away from elevator and ice machine. Upgraded us without charge. Only problem: We invited friends to our room to watch "Life of Pi" and computerized movie system was broken. Never did get it fixed. Second thought: the hallway rugs -- at least on the 5th floor -- look a little old and worn. Your staff were very professional and friendly.

This is an older hotel that they have done a good job renovating. The room was clean and comfortable even though it was a bit on the small side. The staff was very professional. My only complaints would be the noise - hallway noise transferred into the rooms so every time someone walked down the hallway you would hear them. I kept our room fan on to help drown that out. And you have to go through a very industrial type neighborhood to get to the hotel which I would not want to do late at night. Once you reach the hotel you would never know that neighborhood is near by. The hotel has a wonderful restaurant as well.

The hotel and staff were great. The locations was perfect for our needs. I had read reviews that the train noise was terrible so I paid extra for waterfront rooms and didn't have any issues. Some of the carpets in the hallways were stained, but the rooms and bathrooms were perfect!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Waterfront Hotel, Jack London Square (a Joir de Vivre Boutique Hotel) that I extended my stay another night! The Front desk staff were VERY pleasant, courteous and provided me excellent customer service! I was however VERY disappointed that I paid extra for premium internet speed for both days and the internet connection speed was a nightmare. Was also disappointed in the loudness of the trains that passes by quite a bit. The rooms could use an upgrade with better sound proofing.

A straightforward hotel with nothing fancy. Plain but adequate buffet breakfast. Helpful shuttle to Amtrak station. Glass of wine on offer in lobby every evening. Well worth a stay.

I loved this little hotel. I stayed here for the weekend to attend a seminar downtown. I didn't want to stay right downtown, so I chose this place, which was only a mile from my seminar. Good move. The staff was very friendly. Make sure you book a waterfront room. The rooms on the front side face the railroad tracks, and the train blows it's whistle as it passes. The waterfront is on the other side of the hotel. You look out over a harbor full of sailboats. You can still hear the train, but it is muffled. The restaurants around the hotel are really great and a very short walk. Yoshi's is right across the street, too.

I loved my room. I had a view of the room that was incredible .......service was great!

We had a wonderful nights stay, very cozy.

The wife and I wanted to get away for the night and we ended up staying at the Waterfront Hotel in Jack London Square. It was a nice little treat. The hotel is well kept, staff was very friendly and the location was great! Upgraded to a ocean view for a few bucks more was worth the sunset and the sunrise (although we slept through the sunrise). Jack London Square has plenty of good places to eat and things to see for a simple night away.

The hotel was great and the area was alive with people from all walks of life. The hotel convently placed across the street from a awesome jazz/blues club and in the middle of several quality restaurants. Bypass San Francisco and stay at the jewel for half the price and twice the fun.

The suite with balcany overlooking water was perfect. Although the heater was loud, the room otherwise was well appointed and clean. The locale is good for Jack London Square events, shows at Yoshi's, wine tasting at local tasting rooms. The pool, patio and restaurant are inviting and make it fun place to hang out ... especially on a sunny day.

Excelent

The staff was very professional and pleasant both during my stay and also on the phone. The hotel is a bit older so the wallpaper and decor is dated but it is a cute hotel. It's in a perfect location for live music and great restaurants. It's a fun area and I had a great time. I also want to note that I left a personal item in the room and I received a follow-up call that my item(s) were waiting for me. I was so, so pleased with the staff.

Loved this hotel. I liked the view of harbor from the pool area and that pool was heated so my son could swim during a winter month. Spacious rooms were nice and beds were very comfy. Glad we could bring our dog and liked the walking areas around the hotel.

It was wonderful. The staff were very caring of us and the hotel itself is charming and sweet. Decor was warm, room very clean. The lovely fragrance of the essential oils used in the cleaning products wafted through the halls. It is located right on the bay by the ferry to San Francisco, so the location was perfect. I have already recommended this hotel to family members.

There is an active, noisy railroad near this hotel and trains run all night.

Room was spacious and clean; staff was friendly. 2 big issues: noise from adjoining rooms was distracting and contributed to poor night's sleep. I don't believe anyone was behaving loudly - simply talking and walking across the room. But, we could here constant chatter, and stomping so the noise carries very easily. This is a HUGE deal for a hotel. Second issue was lack of vending machines. Room service ceases at 9pm and there are NO vending machines on the floors. I found out the next day that there is one in the lobby, but you'd have to get dressed and go outside to reach the lobby. Again - such a simple thing that makes a huge difference. I want more than tap water after 9pm. The common area next to the lobby is quite nice with a fireplace and coffee/tea in the morning.

We stayed at the hotel because we went to a basketball game at the Arena. We liked it so much we are definitely coming back to just enjoy the hotel and the surroundings.

the only downside was that i did not like paying a separate charge for parking in the hotel lot. i think this should be included. there is no place else to park! plus, of course you had to pay tips to the valet coming and going, plus the fee to park. i thought this was a bit much in such a relatively desolate location.

Very nice stay. Very close to Yoshi's Jazz club for our dinner and concert. Would definitely stay again.
