Friendly and helpful staff

Overall this hotel is a good place to arrive from the continent since the flights often arrive late in the evening, it is very near the airport and easy to get to. I can't recommend this hotel for longer stays. The parking lot is crowded and hard to manage. Late arrivals will have a hard time. The room was clean, but old, and musty. As other reviewers mentioned, the walls are thin, including out to the common areas. You can hear every conversation within 50 feet. I have not tried other hotels in Hilo, so I can't compare.

Very convenient from airport. Nice large koi pond in front. Across the street from Reeds Bay Beach County Park. Not many eating locations nearby, except Ken's House of Pancakes, a local treasure for anytime. Parking is tight in the evening.

Nice place. I would have given a 5 rating except for some historical issues such as lack of elevator and non-free internet. Not serious unless you're in a wheelchair or have lots of heavy luggage. This hotel is designed in the "old Hilo" fashion. It's well kept up. The lobby is very nice & at times a bit breezy. Our room looked out over the koy pond. If you can, ask for such a room. Other rooms on the south side (pool) are probably noisy due to the heavily used road nearby. However, on the northern side (pond), it's not noisy at all. We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean and quite nice. There are several good restaurants in walking distance. The "Pond" is pricy but excellent. The free breakfast is great. Internet service will cost $$$ except in the lobby. That sucks, but not unusual.

Accomodation and quality are consistent with price. Room was very basic and the bed was a bit soft. Room has functioning ceiling fan and window AC. Close proximity to airport, Hilo Bay, and Hilo attractions. Used as base for Volcano National Park (45 min drive). Did not use hotel's facilities. Large shopping mall about 5 miles away on Hwy 11 with fast food, restaurants, and shopping available.

We recently stayed at the Hilo Seaside Hotel. This hotel is very old and outdated with the exception of the flat screen TV’s. It lacks sufficient parking and looks like a junkyard when viewed from the rear entrance. The hotel is not really seaside so do not upgrade to the ocean view as it looks over a pond, a road and a then lagoon that is connected to the ocean. Also, the front desk staff lacked hospitality and were unable to give recommendations to local sites or restaurants. By far this is the poorest quality hotel I have booked from Hotels.com.

Nice if you like it quite. Don't stay if you want to party. Very thin walls, you canhear everything in the rooms around you. Budget hotel that could use some updates. Wi-Fi in rooms at no charge would be nice and should be included at the price they charge. It's not on the ocean, it's on a small inlet off of Hilo Bay. Staff is very nice. Good location for exploring the Volcano and the Hilo Farmers Market. Could be an excellent hotel if they either update it or lower the cost.

Nice place for the money, close to the airport. I had read on previous reviews that this place was dirty and had bugs, I think that people just like to complain. We had a good experience at this hotel and will stay again, Great place for the money!!! Oh and go to the resturant in the hotel and get their banana bread BEST in Hawaii

It was the most beautifully laid out and 'landscaped' hotel we stayed in. Unfortunately, our time was too short to fully enjoy it.

The night staff was beyond what we could expect. We arrived later and had requested cribs and a spare bed. They were not there but the two ladies at the desk went on a quest to locate them in a very friendly manner. Thanks again. The morning staff was just as helpful. Great place to stay.

Close to many things on Wikiki. The beach, restaurants and lots of stores are within close range. The parking was terrible. We weren't the only ones struggling to fit a mini van into a smart-car-sized parking space! The Parking was difficult to find in the first place, located under the hotel. Lots of the noises you find in a major city can be heard most of the night, which Isn't the hotels fault.

The hotel has a very tropical feel and is very close to beaches, restaurants, shops, etc. Its location outside of the downtown area keeps it quiet. The rooms were very comfortable and include refrigerators. This is a great place to stay to have access to all if Hill at an affordable price.

I always enjoy the friendly staff and find the Hotel to be very adequate for my needs while working in the Hilo area.

Older hotel but nicely maintained. Room was clean and quiet. Nice garden atmosphere and pool area. Efficient, friendly, and helpful staff. Near downtown Hilo at the beginning of Banyan Drive and close to airport. Restaurants, drive-in food within walking distance. No bugs, lots of hot water. Parking lot was always full, but street parking available.

Very satisfied. Included breakfast was good.

It was a really nice place.clean friendly staff.

Nice clean rooms. Super location. Very nice staff. Worth more than they charge for a room. great area for an evening walk. Love the fish pond too!!

Overall It was very good, the hotel was v.nice.Older facility but very well looked after, clean, quiet. Fern garden rooms excellent. Staff excellent. Adjoining restaurant the coconut grill v.g. Busy place with customers coming and going. Parking in their lots is sometimes hard to find space. The only one draw back is it is located in line of airport landing & take off, so don"t expect to sleep past 6 AM. I solved this problem by wearing ear plugs. Overall this Seaside at Hilo is a great value. We would stay there again.

I had a good experience staying in this hotel. Just one thing: they are trying to save, so no plastic bag covering the garbage bin. No new shampoo if I haven't finish the old one...don't really sure if the house keeping forget to put a new one or they just simply wanted to save... Other than that, eveything was good.

Seventies style hotel in a sleepy seventies style town. Neither of which are bad whatsoever. Only complaint was minimal WiFi. Good bargain, but don't expect much more.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hilo Seaside Hotel. The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was close to a number of attractions, shopping and restaurants.

the water was close and a couple other hotels were close that was nice. but i could not find a grocery store and service in cocnut grill was'nt friendly and to walk into downtown took about 25 minutes to walk to. i had friends staying at another hotel for only 20 bucks a night more and it was a lot nicer.

both me and wife enjoyed our stay.the hotel may be old but the stay was worth the age.the staff was very freindly.the hotel restraute was very reasonable

It's very old hotel.They said that it was free upgrade but room did not say that.location is good.If you are checking in late night then it's hard to find parking spot.Room is very small.But we stayed there for 2 nights.

The room provided was the best we have had at Hilo Seaside. It was very neat, clean and a great location looking out over the pond. The entire stay was very nice indeed!

Friendly, welcoming hotel perfect location for visiting the sites of the area.Rooms can be a little noisy as with all the other hotels in the same area after all you are at the end of a runway.

classic "old hawaii" (60s?) feel, nice open courtyards and grounds, great base for hilo's sights and volcano NP (~30 miles)

The hotel is definately dated, time seems to have stopped right around the late 70s as far as furnishings and decor are concerned. But, the beds were comfortable, the shower adequate, the food o.k. Location-wise it's pretty good, the "seaside" is across the street, surrounded by a sidewalk. A decent park is kiddie-corner with a botanical garden. The airport is just a few minutes away - with the helicopter flights being much cheaper thatn the Kona side. For what you get, the price seems steep, but choices are few.

This place is an old DUMP!. The place is very old, not updated at all, wood rotting all over the place and the room stinks like mold. My wife went down to the restaurant to ask for cream for her coffee and they charged her .25 cents for the cream. You can only print your boarding passes from the lobby business center printers and nothing else. Also, the in-room internet is $8.95 per day, parking was terrible and the back of the hotel is up against a car junkyard. This place was pathetic and by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff was SO cheap and you basically had to pay for everything ala carte....like the cream for the coffee at .25 cents each. I would not reccommend this hotel to anybody.

I stayed one night fr work. The hotel is in much better shape than it use to be. The room was clean and the best part it did'nt smell like mold.

The Hotel was built in the 1950s and is fairly well maintained. The adjoining restaurant was the only real downside. The food was good... the service in the morning was terrible with the exception of one server... Ask for Starr if you want fast friendly service.

Our flight was in the morning and we only stayed here for a night after coming back from Kona. It's close to the other hotels, but it's closer to the main roads. Parking is horrible. I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you're only here for a short night and on a budget.
