The hotel area we stayed in is in the middle of renovation. They have a sign that says beware of the temperature in the shower. This sign was greatly appreciated! It switched from hot to cold and then again to hot in a matter of seconds. The room was tiny. However, it was a great location and if you can live with the down-side it's marginally worth the cost.

Rooms are small but very comfortable. The restaurant is one of San Antonios best kept secrets. It was excellent.

We were excited to stay at the Menger because of it's history and location in downtown San Antonio.My husband and son went ghost-hunting, but did not experience any paranormal activity! Thank goodness.Lovely room, although a tad small.

We have desired to stay at this hotel for some time now. Older staff very cordial inside hotel. The younger staff involved in the room service status not as friendly. Valet staff was most helpful.

I really enjoyed my stay at the historical Menger. I have stayed with you once before and was pleased then too. This time the room was not what I had requested but they took care of it right away. So pleased with the location to all the sights I wanted to see and could walk to all of them. The hotel staff were excellent and made me feel welcome.

Guests need to be able to choose the size of the bad when making reservations. At 6'3", the small bed we were given in our room was barely big enough for me, let alone my 5'10" tall lady.

Not happy at all! The room was very small as well as the bed! The water from the shower could not be regulated!! It was either too hot or too cold!! My wifes birthday getaway and we did not sleep at all!! We both agreed, never to stay there again!! We arrived around lunch time and called the hotel before there. We advised the front desk if we could get our room and they said Yes. When we got to the hotel, they said our room was not ready! We came back at 3PM and we still had to wait. A worker at the front desk said it would be about 30 minutes more, that they would call me on my cell phone, he never did. After my wife went up to the front desk 3times to ask, we finally got into the room after 4PM!! The embarrasing park of the waiting was waiting in the lobby with all out bags and clothes!!

Bed was small for 2 people. The location was great. Easy walk to everything. Hotel had lots of amenities. I loved the antiques and history of ghosts.

The hotel was fine. However, the pricing was misleading. as the valet parking was not optional. This should have been reflected in the advertised cost. Great location next to the Alamo and the mall yet within two minutes of the Riverwalk

The hotel itself was all that was expected of an historic hotel situated across from the Alamo. What was not perfect was the air conditioning in the room did not work, the was only a ceiling fan for comfort. the water in the shower cycled between scalding hot and frigid cold even when you adjusted the temperature manually. The hotel offered apologies, but nothing else. Seems to me a hotel with that star rating would care a little more about their facilities.

The hotel made the business trip so much nicer. Love that "old" Hotel!

Check in took along time. Water was in the room but was charged $8.00 a bottle if u opened it. Also did not have a flat screen TV. Ask for a room close to the elevator but was at the end of the hall. The bathroom was cvery small an towels were kept underneath the sink. On the day of check out went down to get a cart to carry the baggage down to the car an eas told that they could not let us bring it but they would hav to come up an get them for us.So for the price felt that we would have been better staying at another hotel.

No parking spots. Hotel will charge you 2O per day to park your car. But other than that it was a great experiance to stay therel. It's a historic hotel and if it gets remodeled then it will loose it's reputation as a historic place. I would go there again.

The service was incredible as was the location, pool and history of the Hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom however was much to be desired and was EXTREMELY OUT DATED The shower head sprayed water everywhere and the tub would not drain... Very pleased with our stay other than the bathroom

VERY close to Riverwalk!!

Our stay was wonderful even though we didn't get the room we booked online. When we checked ikon we were told that our king size want available and that they could put us in a queen. I wasn't happy because I really wanted that room. We didn't get a price adjustment or anything the room was smaller. I could have just thrown a fit because this is not how I wanted to spend my birthday. But it turned out to be a great weekend despite the room change.

The Menger hotel is a very classy place to stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful . The hotel is in very good condition for being built in 1859. It is located in the middle of all the action with easy access to the Alamo , the mall , and the riverwalk . I would definitely stay again .

It's usual for an old hotel to show signs of age but in the case of the Menger it's a little more than I like to see. Most of the carpets are stained, the TVs are awfully outdated and there were plaster chips missing from the walls of our rooms. Plumbing is extremely loud and very disturbing at night. The hotel charges a premium that in my opinion it no longer can justify.

What a beautiful hotel! And if you're planning to do sightseeing, you couldn't ask for a better location. Our room was totally quiet (we faced the inside courtyard, not the street; I don't know if that made a difference) and everything was clean and well cared for. I don't know if I'd choose this place if I was looking for "family fun" or a place to "party" (it's a bit more upscale and sophisticated), but for our needs, it was perfect.

Everything was great with the exception of the maid staff not leaving enough linens. Renee, the bartender in the Menger bar was awesome!! Gave us great places to eat, and could answers questions about the local buildings the cab drivers couldn't even answer. Would recommend this historic hotel to anyone. We will definitely go back! Very romantic weekend getaway.

Close to Alamo, Riverwalk, shopping, public transportation. The heated swimming pool was great. Bed was very comfortable. Lobby, Courtyard, Historic Bar and Restaurant had great ambiance.

Wish all hotels were like the Menger. All amenities and conviniences made this stay wonderful. Room was spacious for double bed with outdoor accessible balcony. We even had breakfast 'al fresco' which was a special treat. Room service was timely and convenient. Not afraid to roam at night due to its proximity to nightlife attractions. Outdoor pool was gorgeous. Staff was professional and courteous. One complaint will be lack of writing utensils in the room which I thought was odd. None the matter, room service took care of that in five minutes. Good service. Price was well worth it.

The only thing wrong with this hotel are the hours the pool is open. It closes at 9 pm for everyone. This is just when we were winding down from the day and returning from a day of sight seeing and the river walk. It would have been nice to be in the pool to cool down or the hot tub to relax. Perhaps they should consider leaving it open til 11 even if just for adults. They could impose a noise restriction.

This is an old hotel but in very good condition. The service was very good although I only stayed one night. The only thing I noticed is the rooms are a little outdated but they are comfortable. No refrigerator, safety box and TV was old. If you have a car, be ready to pay valet prices (I did not mind). Overall, it is a very nice hotel for a weekend getaway.

This hotel was in the center of everything. It also was an interesting stay with a historical touch. The hotel had a very homey feel n it felt as if u were in the past. The was furnishes with antiques all over the hotel. It also had lots of pictures from the 1865-1950s it's was awesome. They had rooms suits were famous people like T. Roosevelt stayed. I really feel in love with hotel it had everything a tourist could ask for and more.

This hotel is really nice and historical...great for history buffs!! The outdoor garden area is beautiful and quiet. The pool area is nice but I didn't use the pool. The hotel sits right in the middle between the Alamo and the Rivercenter mall. A few things did bother me but didn't ruin my trip.... The shower water would get extremely cold and then hot during the shower. The room was alot smaller than I expected and it was always either too cold or too hot in the room either way the thermastat was adjusted it would get too cold or too hot. And the vallet quoated us one price for parking per day and we got charged alot more!! Other than that everything was ok... I would recommend it but I personally would rather try another hotel if I go back... I like change.

My fiance and I were very impressed withthe hotel. The location was great, staff was awesome, it made us feel like big spenders on a budget. The only issue we had was the water temp in shower would switch from very cold to very hot as well as the mattress was a little to stiff. Other than that a great hotel with great staff.

I chose this hotel for a sisters' reunion and my sisters and I were all well pleased with the choice. This is a beautiful, historic hotel in the heart of San Antonio. The public areas of the hotel give one a feeling of the long history of the building. The rooms are quite comfortable and the staff friendly and eager to help. The restaurant is lovely and the food very good, although the service in that one area leaves something to be desired. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for an intriguing place to stay that is convenient to Alamo Plaza and the Riverwalk.

Great historic hotel! Clean rooms, fabulous pool, great breakfast and location was perfect! We could easily walk to riverwalk and the Alamo was next door. The hotel has been maintained beautifully, you feel like you are in a historic hotel, but not a run down hotel.

Really enjoyed our stay at the grand old hotel, The Menger. Close to everything...walking distance to most all the downtown attractions. Even walked to the Tower of the Americas for dinner and birdseye view of the city. The lobby, the historic pictures, all the presidents who have stayed there....truly so much better than those "chain motels on the interstate." Rates quite reasonable through hotels.com!!

Although the history surrounding the hotel was interesting, I would not recommend the Menger Hotel. The four rooms we reserved were nowhere near each other, and the customer service experience with the front desk was far less than pleasant. Checking in was most irritating . The layout of the floors is very confusing, making our trips between rooms difficult. The front desk was not responsive nor sensitive to the needs of our two elderly guests. In fact, half of our party left a day early due to the poor service and negative experience at this hotel. We were impressed by the valet service. The employees were very helpful and professional. I do not recommend the hotel restaurant. The food was cold and not very good. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. For our next San Antonio trip, we'll choose another hotel.

Great lobby and helpful personnel. The rooms are small and cozy but.....we know the the rooms are experienced but put a flat screen, preferably one that works. And in today's technology can you please fix the water. Hot to cold over and over. Time to upgrade. One more thing, the towels. They are Holiday in grade. Thin,old and small. I would stay again because of the location but people who can stay anywhere wount

Nice location, easy access to attractions. Lovely pool. the only thing is the staff did not have a lot of information about nightlife in the area, in particular places to see live music. There was a nice place on Houston, a block away from the hotel with live music..Moses Roses Hideaway.

Walking into the lobby felt like stepping back in time... in a good way. Wonderful service, incredible lobby, tasteful rooms with antique furniture. The creaky floors and mild fluctuating water temperatures only add to the charm and adventure of staying in a piece of history. It's great to feel like you're in a unique hotel and not in another cookie-cutter hotel in Anywhere, USA.

A comfortable clean hotel to stay in near the riverwalk and The Alamo. We enjoyed the shopping nearby. The only disappointment was not seeing a ghost!!! that I hoped would visit during our stay.

This hotel was very charming and was in a great location. It was comfortable and the rates were reasonable. My room was a little small, and my only complaint would be that the water in the shower would go from burning hot to freezing cold without warning. Other than that I really enjoyed my stay.

Ther rooms were very small. The beds were not good. They gave me the wrong room, single twin when paid for king, and did not want to switch it, almost had to leave the hotel. The roon was about 12' x 12' , it felt like a jail cell. The hot water did not work in the showers. Overall not a good stay, will not be back. Compaied to other hotels in the area, which friends were staying, The Menger was the worst, and cost the same if not more.

The reason for staying at The Menger Hotel is because of its historic background, and the historic/convenient location to The Alamo, and River Walk. I liked staying here even though it was short lived.

You can definitely tell the hotel was built when Americans were smaller than today, but the hotel has been updated and is very comfortable. Wife & I had a very pleasant stay & will do it again.

Beautiful old hotel except for the room we stayed in. It was noisy, small, and almost impossible to take a shower--the temperature fluctuated from hot to very cold. I would not stay there again.
