My son wanted to visit the US Merchant Marine Academy; staying here was perfect for that and gave us easy access to Manhattan via the LIRR. There are several restaraunts withing walking distance. Hotel is not fancy, rooms are smallish but clean. This was the second time we have stayed there and if he ends up attending the academy, I will be there again when visiting him.

Tiny room with big tv & not much else going for it--very few available tv channels. Breakfast grossed me out--stale bagel chunks, watered orange juice & then I made the mistake of trying a mini-muffin only to find an ant crawling up my hand.......

I slept peacefully, and that is what is important when I stay at a hotel. The only problem I found was on the elevator. I was on the elevator, and the door was closing before my mother got on. I put my hand out to stop the door, but the door did not stop. Thankfully I moved my hand away, quickly enough. Most elevator doors have a sensor, and the doors stops closing, when you put your hand out. This did not happen on this elevator. So it makes me concerned. That's all. Everything else was fine.

Very nice hotel and beautiful room. Bayside is great location for restaurants and a nice friendly neighborhood!

My family and I had a lovely stay in this hotel. The room was spacious and extremely clean. I felt very attended to because whenever I called the office, no matter who answered the phone I was treated with care and concern. Thank you Anchor Inn.

I stayed two nights and the customer service was excellent. Rooms were clean and comfortable.

I stay often in this hotel for geographic reasons and because it is reasonably priced. Forget though about the complementary breakfast. Only bagels, toast and cereals. Is the only hotel I know that serves breakfast until 10 AM and you have to check out at 11 H. For early birds only.

We book a room with a couch that pulls out into a bed and then are informed that it will be extra, a lot extra, if we actually want sheets. This for an overpriced, dumpy room. I won't even start about the naked party down the hall. Oh and the fewest channels I have ever seen on a TV -- bring your DVD (or if they would even rent a system it is most likely a VHS). STAY AWAY!!

This hotel is not fancy or luxurious, but it is clean and comfortable and an excellent value. Notable is the free on-site parking and continental breakfast. Very convenient to Nassau County, Long Island.

the entire building was nasty, the carpet need to be change there was no tub, the bathroom was very small, needed new pillow, the breakfast area was nasty, dirty, microwave was dirty, overall that hotel was nasty. I would not want any one that I know to experience that.

front lobby people were friendly,but the condition of the hotel needed updating.room smelled like smoke.cost was too expensive for this location and the condition of hotel

This hotel was good for the area we had to be in. I had mixed feelings about it. It's pretty old, and the lobby, elvator, and hallways needed some updating. Once insde the room, things were updated and ok. The room had a large flat screen, updated and clean bathroom, and the beds were good. It also had a frig, free parking, and was close to lots of restaurants, and shopping. Loved Cupcake in High Heels, a bakery, just across from the White Castle. The free breakfast was ok, with bagels, waffles, cereal and muffins. The people at the front dest were great, and we had no real complaints.

Then i was move to a room that smelled like urine the second nite. not good...

We needed to stay near SUNY Maritime for a sailing race that started early in the morning, and this was a less expensive option than others. All in all, I was underwhelmed by the hotel. It is a bit cramped, very worn down, and we found a prior guest's things hanging in a bag on the back of the bathroom door. We did manage to get a good night's sleep, so we accomplished the basic goal. The place has character, but overall in hindsight I might have selected something closer to LaGuardia that is newer and in better condition.

Good service at very fair rates

night manager help get me a driver to the airport that save me 25%.

The hotel itself was pretty good and the staff was helpful. The only real complaint I have is that when we tried to go to Manhattan by subway, we needed to take a bus to a subway station. There is a LIRR station nearby, but not good if you're looking to save money.

The hotel was outside New York city but only 20 mins by Long Island Railroad train (just around corner). Excellent eateries nearby and very safe neighbourhood. Free breakfast and internet, added benefits.

rooms and interior of hotel could use a little pickmeup but there is a convenience store, subways, starbucks just across the street and small but underground parking was a plus. bed was spring mattress so if you are a princess, you may be sore in the am. the front desk was nice as they let me checkout @ 12 instead of 11 no extra charge since I checked in late the night before. overall, I would still come back again.

Hotel was decent and near the train. Convenient to the college we were visiting. Overall it was good

Have been a few times in this hotel. You get a lot for your money and in 20 min you can be on Manhattan with LIRR train. The receptionist John was very helpful and accomodating. A shame that breakfast finish early at 10 AM

My son and I stayed at the Anchor Inn in connection with his introduction to the US Merchant Marine Academy. The location for this was great and it is very close to numerous local restaurants. The front desk staff was helpful in giving guidance on where to go. Rooms are small but sufficient. Only one elevator so sometimes the wait is a few minutes just to go up one floor. Parking (free) in underground garage was nice to have.

Our room was supposed to be ready by noon. we arrived a little early and it wasn't. Told the clerk we would be back late afternoon they said "good". Then called an hour later to check in and the room wasn't ready. They need more house staff. But the room was clean and everything else in the room was pleasant...the large king bed was very comfortable and clean, large screen tv was very nice. And, the restaurant across the street was fabulous, Pier 25A. Breakfast was also included, but the breakfast room could be made a little cuter, the food was good and a nice selection.

Although renovated from its original condition, the structure is old feeling in the hallways and public areas. The room was clean and fine, the bathroom completely updated and clean. The single elevator is similar to those found in public housing. The desk staff are new to this hemisphere and are still trying to play catch up ball to 1st world service demeanor. If you need a place to spend a night in this area, it is satisfactory. The neighborhood is good and the car is safe; however, the underground garage is not inviting. Better to park outside or on street unless concerned over spouse seeing vehicle present at a location that could not be interpreted as home or business.

Staff was friendly and very helpful at check in. It was perfect for our overnight stay. The neighborhood was safe and fun to walk around shops, eateries and a nice park on the water. Walking distance to subway and short 20 min. or so ride to Manhatten on a Sat. evening. An economical way to visit the city.

Quiet and comfortable. Enjoyed our stay.

Check-in was simple as was finding my room. The hotel and my room were both very clean. The area was nice safe. There are small shops and restaurants around within walking distance...(northern and bell blvd). Train to manhattan was only a short walk away as well. Affordable way to get into Penn station. Also a very good restaurant next door called Pier 25. Definitely would stay here again.

Very basic.

Good value for rate. I slept ok, my wife complained of some noise due to pipes. Rates and personnnel OK. Room is cleaned once a day only in the morning, so if you sleep late, your room willl not be made.

As we drove up we were worried about the surrounding area but the hotel was located in a nice neighborhood and had plenty of good eating options close by, staff were excellent and the hotel was well maintained.

Hotel Room condition was not upto the mark. Toilet was in a mess. The sink was leaking. The tap water did seem a bit muddy and not potable. Although service by the staff was very nice. They are very helpful and even help you arrange for other things like meals, travel to NYC, etc ...

The Anchor Inn was an okay stay, but I can only rate it two stars due to a couple of problems. The biggest problem was that the room was so dirty when we arrived. The floor was filthy, with bits of visible dirt and debris all about. They vacuumed on our second day, but isn't it Hotels 101 that a room should be vacuumed prior to guest check-in? My other complaints are that the wireless internet was the slowest and least reliable connection I've ever experienced in a hotel and that the room generally was in poor condition. Some of the furniture was broken and splintered.
