This was only a 2 night stay but we utilised some of the hotel facilities. The hotel location was outstanding, 15 minutes walk to the Petronas Towers, 5 minutes to the nightlife and if shopping is your thing then 2 minutes to the shops. The room we had was a club room which came with a lounge and second loo. Way beyond our requirements. The actual room was a great size although a CRT TV was a bit old-fashioned. The bathroom had a bath and an excellent shower and the cleanliness of the whole facility was great. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the concierge had a good knowledge of what was where. Overall, the Istana is thoroughly recommended.

Hotel is close to shops both Pavillion and Petronas towers shopping centre are within walking distance. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel.

W e enjoyed our stay at the Istana. It was clean and room was spacious although bathroom was a little dated. There was a great outdoor pool. The hotel was close to the monorail and good shopping.

Very rude reception staff not friendly we were supposed to have free breakfast at reception they said breakfast is not included if we have it we have to pay for it or it will be deducted from our credit card very old tv in the room not clear pictures very very bad never ever again

Probably the cheapest 5 star hotels around KL. But if you're expecting 5 star treatment, you'll be quite disappointed. We had to wait almost an hour to have someone come fix our safe box, and some channels on the TV were fuzzy (not LCD). Overall for the price we paid, it was ok.

Chose this hotel for overall value after assessing reports on various hotels in KL. Situated virtually half way between KLCC twin towers and Bukit Bingtang shopping & nightlife and only a short walk to either as well as being directly opposite the monorail station makes it an ideal base to explore KL. Comfort, facilities and staff well up to standard for this type of hotel.

We spent 5 nights at this hotel. Staff are super polite and pleasant. Room a good size. Supplies of coffee and tea minimal - have to request every day. TV old fashioned with minimal channels; Vision Four channels are a joke with constant repeats. Internet outrageously expensive - free WiFi in the lobby is a must in today's modern technology. Check-in and check-out smooth and quick. Will stay there again when there is a "sale" on again.

Throughout our stay at the Hotel Istana we were very impressed with the positive attitude of all staff. The room was quite spacious and the bathroom was the best we had encountered on our holiday. The breakfast was pretty impressive with a wide range of options for all cultures. Overall, we were very happy and will look to return to this venue on our next trip to Kuala Lumpur.

We stayed here for 4 nights. It was a very comfortable hotel. The staff were very pleasant & friendly. It was in a great location close to main attractions & shopping centres. The lobby & restaurants were fantastic. The food was varied & delicious. The only problem we had was when we checked in, we went up to our room only to be informed by "the man in the room" that it was not ready for entry as it had problems with the phone lines. We then had to go back downstairs and get another room allocated. Not a major issue, but not something that you would expect from a 5* hotel. The hotel is currently renovating the rooms floor by floor. We had a room that needed an update but was by no means shabby. All up a very good spot to stay.

We spent our first two nights i Malaysia here and we enjoyed every second, even though it gets some time to get used to the Aircon :) we stayed in one of the clubsuites and had exellent service. Our kids loved the breakfast buffé and the pool.

The staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment we checked in to the moment we left. Our fridge was not cold enough so within 10 mins they bought up a new fridge and as we didn't want mini bar they would deliver ice with 5 mins of me asking. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel as it right opposite the monorail so we were able to get anywhere very easily. Everything was very handy, shopping, restaurants, sights....

I lost my lingerie in the room. The manager promised to get back to me. But till today he didn't reply, poor service from him

Hotel Istana is the most value-for-money hotel in KL. Its location is excellent (just 2 blocks away from Pavilion, and a 5-min stroll to Bukit Bintang; the monorail station is just opposite the hotel). Room is relatively large and it comes with a decent bathtub. There's a lounge and restaurants within the hotel if you are too lazy to go out. However, our stay is tainted by the receptionist's refusal to extend our stay at the hotel, strangely rooms are available. Nevertheless, this hotel is highly recommended and we will go back again on our next trip.

The room has a very nice and spacious bathroom. The location is very central as well. I can walk to nearby shopping centres, food street and other areas of interest easily.

A pity the beds were too hard, my whole body was slowly hurting all over after a few days. Maybe it is an asian preference, but otherwise a very nice hotel. Good buffet breakfast and clean.

We stayed at the Istana with our 11 month old for 5 nights. We booked a club room as we got a good deal. The service was fantastic. The room was clean, although we got a twin room (when we requested a king - which was rectified and changed the next day). The cot was wooden and very sturdy, even for our very active child. Tea and coffee were complimentary in the club lounge most times of the day (unless it was a meal time of course). They had a fantastic cocktail snacks before dinner. The staff were very helpful and very obliging. Can say that we really enjoyed our stay. It is very close to the golden triangle (within walking distance) and the monorail is almost across the road (little walk across the road). Lots of shops and malls within walking distance. Petronas towers and KL towers close by. Walking distance to KL towers and free minibus at various times from hotel to Petronas towers (although you can walk). I would highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is regularly described as a five-star accomodation, and upon arrival in the truly spectacular high-ceilinged marble lobby (which befits the name "Istana," or "palace") you would be forgiven for assuming it would be. However, the rooms are simply not up to the same standard as the common areas. My room was large, strangely laid-out, and very sparsely furnished, with noticeable wear on the carpets, upholstery, and bathroom fixtures. It wasn't bad, but it was clearly showing its age, and it was nothing like as luxurious as I expect from a five-star hotel. Carpets in the halls, as well, were worn and dated. Finally, the cleaning service, while certainly daily, didn't pay the same kind of attention to detail that I expect in a high-end hotel. Of couse, the room rates were also much more affordable than a five-star hotel's would be, so this may explain some of the shortcomings. The staff were extremely gracious, the breakfast buffet was palatable although not all that fancy, and the common areas, once again, were beautiful. But until the rooms get a full remodel this will be nothing more than a 3.5 star hotel with a better-than-average-looking lobby.

Hotel Istana is a great family friendly hotel. The club suites are nice and roomy and the club lounge is fantastic. The only down point is the rooms are a little dated. Other than that our stay was fantastic and the staff can't do enough to help you. The location is perfect as the mono rail is around the corner and the large shopping centres are in walking distance.

Booked and prepaid 2 non-smoking rooms some time ago. On arrival, one room was satisfactory, the other was on a smoking floor. Ultimately allocated a small rear room with view of a brick wall, by a very disinterested receptionist. Criteria for selection was location and a pool.The pool was green and 'murky' for all of our stay and mostly closed. Carpets were worn and stained and overall the hotel is in need of total refurbishment. Could certainly not grade the Istana above a 3 star rating.

Great Hotel, clean, friendly staff, very helpful. Delicious breakfast, great location, accommodates family of 4. Would stay there again.

Hotel Istana is in a great location if you are there for shopping. Also an easy 10-15 min walk to Petronas Towers. Staff also very friendly.

Went there on the 26 july...location of the hotel is good but the condition of the room needs to be renovate...the staff there is friendly but the only thing that is not that good about the hotel is the room..bathtub tap is spoilt,aircon not that cold and my biggest suprised is the tv...there are still using the ctr tv...i have tried a few hotel in that area and only istana that is still using ctr tv..ouh one more thing theres no iron board and iron we have to call them and asked before they gave us...will not recommend the hotel unless they revamp the room..

OK, lets start with the good things. Hotel is nice, rooms are very spacious and very clean. Staff is friendly. But at this price point I expect more then just fine. I have to be fair, I had stayed at the Shangri-La the week before but it was booked out so picked this one. So I am biased, nonetheless some immediate shortcomings. You will be charged USD $7 if you do not return your plastic door key at the end of your stay. Really? No Wi-Fi in room only WAN. I had a Macair which does only Wifi. Internet charges are $10 per day in the room or $3/hr in the lobby area. Again really? No flatscreen TV in room. Minibar was empty and hadn't been used in ages so it smelled when opened. You could order one of three "packages" of minibar options in which they bring you liquor and snacks. As with any hotel, prices are silly. Breakfast was not good. Wide selection of food but quality was subpar. No fresh OJ. I am staying for three weeks in KL and choose to leave as soom was available at another hotel.

We booked a Club floor room at the Istana - very good value at the price. The buffet breakfast offered a huge variety and the hotel is only a short distance away from the main shopping district of Bukit Bintang. The only negatives were that it took quite a long time for them to check us in although we were checked in the on the Club floor, would have probably been quicker if we'd gone through the normal check in. Also the pool was not cleaned and it was so green that my daughter didn't step into it! Despite this, I would still recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

Hotel rates of the hotel are reasonable for the services and the room that they served. Hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. Room Service are also quite efficient. Though its not located at the heart of Bukit Bintang but still a walking distance. Opposite the hotel is a monorial station already. Will go back to stay there again! :)

I booked a club room in the hotel for 2 nights when I travelled to Malaysia in March/April 2011. I don't have much to say about the hotel, but giving it 5/5 in each category can tell how good those 2 nights were. The price was very attractive for a 5-Star hotel, the room was big and quiet, everything is clean and tidy and they have complementary broadband internet connection. The only "bad" things (of course comparing to everything that was almost perfect) were the breakfast which wasn't up to the expectations in it's variety and quality, and the lack of LCD TV in the room (I like to plug my laptop to the TV using HDMI to watch my Films) Do I recommend it? Certainly. If I were you, I wouldn't go anywhere else in Kuala Lumpur.

Good location, nice lobby area. My room was very large with a huge bathroom with large bath and separate shower. However, the room was very plain and dated looking. For the price I would have liked more modern furnishings and design. From the room window I could see both the KL Tower and Petronas towers. The hotel staff were very good. Restaurants in the hotel are nice but over priced. Location is excellent, only a short walk to the towers and the shopping malls. I recommend always getting a taxi from the hotel if you are a tourist in KL.

hotel istana is in an excellent location, near to MRT, walking distance to bukit bintang, central market and other tourist destinations. front of house staff were welcoming and very friendly, atrium is beautiful. our room on the 6th floor required a slight update ie paint, iron mark on carpet, mold round shower silicone but it was large, quiet, provided everything that we needed. swimming pool was a nice oasis during the afternoon, gym, sauna, steam room and spa were also appreciated. great hotel for the price :)
