Awesome place to stay. Clean, quiet, peaceful views from rooms, excellent service everytime

They need to replace the toilet seat. Yellow stains look nasty. Bathroom fan not working. Otherwise nice room and very comfortable king bed. And friendly employees.

the room was clean, but outdated, the Bed was comfy. The hotel was quiet and had nice landscaping with pretty views and a pleasant sounding fountain. The biggest downfall was the lack of hot water. I only stayed one night, and let them know on checkout. The man at the desk told let the maintenance know right away, so hopefully the next guest did not have the same problem. The free hot breakfast was good, but not a lot of choices.

It was very nice, we'll stay there again on future visits to Portland and will looke for other Shilo Inns when travelling.

We had a center court room. nice view but I thought it was too noisy with the water fountain going all the time. hotel could use updating but it was clean and comfortable. the restaurant service was very slow.

The cons: outdated carpet, located near a "gentlemen's" club, the hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was inedible. The pros: super friendly staff, spacious room and bathroom, comfortable bed, good breakfast, balcony view adds a nice extra touch.

awesome service. fast and easy check in and out. very helpful staff.the hotel was clean and quiet...very peaceful setting. the location is extremely convenient and easy to locate.The view was amazing!!The courtyard was like an island paradise. it was so comfortable like a home away from home. we had a great time. wish we never had to leave.

I thought that the staff was very friendly. The room was above expectations, and the free breakfast was outstanding. I would definitely recommend staying here. Great bang for your buck!!!

This location has an interesting layout as it is built onto a hilly area. Becuase of this, even though I had a 3rd floor room, I could park in back and walk on the same level to my 3rd floor room. Others could part at a different part of the hill and easily walk to their 1st floor room. Little things could make this a lot better. The bathroom had a few hairs behind the faucet. The water glasses are covered with strech plastic wrap. The ice bucket had what looked like a piece of corn chip in it. I had to move the nightstand to plug in a CPAP machine and found lots of dirt and grime behind it. This was a piece of furniture that a maid could easily clean behind. It's too bad. The place is close to do it right and with a little work this could be a really nice place. Staff in the restuarant at breakfast were great. Reception desk was great.

Excellent experience with wonderful lobby of dark stained wood, knowledgeable staff, and central courtyard with two large fountains patterned after a sunken Japanese garden. Restaurant in the hotel was very good, but a coupon covering the partial cost of a full breakfast. Room has sliding glass doors leading to the Japanese style central court yard. Would go out of my way to stay there again.

The staff was very friendly. The room was clean. I liked the old-fashioned room keys. The service was slow in therestaurant during breakfast, but it was because they were understaffed. The food was good though.

Very nice for the price

The people were somewhat friendly. My room had a spider. Customer service was very poor, could not find my room. The food was cold. Not likely to go back. The worst hotel I ever been to. Dissappointed!

Both the building and interior of the room look old. It still uses real metal key not the card. The carpet looks dirty although it maybe clean. I do not feel comfortable inside the room. Other than those, the service and the staff are good. Breakfast tastes good. But it is not free, it has 3 dollar off coupon if you stay in the hotel. Considering the old building, passionate waitress, and cheap price, it is overall a good hotel to stay.

Older hotel, nice landscaping, convenient to freeway

Kind of rundown decor and appliances. Tub was bumpy and moved around as you stepped around while taking a shower. Fridge shelves were broken and taped together and missing parts. Beds were ok. We had to skip the free breakfast when they said it would be 30-45 wait to get food and we needed to get on on the road. All in all, an average stay at an average motel.

The hotel really needs updating. It was quiet, but the room was needing some TLC, toilet not working properly and the bed was one of the worst I have ever slept on. Probably won't stay there again

Other than the high school kids that were there on their senior trip loitering in the hallways and hot tub (the usual drama that brings), and the fountain having blue color added to the water it was pretty nice and at a reasonable price.

We were surprisingly happy with out stay. This Shilo Inn was cozy and had some personality. They even gave us an old fashioned key for our room! Breakfast was the best comp breakfast I've ever had a hotel/motel. I would definitely stay here again. I'm interested to stay in a different Shilo Inn to see if they are all up to this standard.

The staff was great, the hotel accommodations were very good and quiet.

The room we were supposed to have they didn't have the keys to so they put us in another room then told us the could move us the next day to the right room. The second room had a bird in the wall that we heard all night.

This is probably one of the most outdated hotels I have stayed at in quite some time. I heard that some rooms are nice and they must have been in other buildings. I stayed in the King Room building and everything was extremely dated, I felt like I stepped into 1980. When I checked in, the person that checked me in had no idea when breakfast started or ended, didn't give us vouchers for free breakfast and when I did get breakfast, we had terrible service and didn't get what we ordered. Overall very disappointing experience considering all the other places I have reserved on hotels.com.

This hotel is a blast from the past. While everything, such as the decor and electronics, were older, it added to the feeling of being transported back in time. It was very comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly and the lobby is very nice. The classy bar and restaurant also earn this place bonus points. Perfect for a little rendezvous. The complimentary breakfast was delicious.

This hotel is bit old but room was very clean. Service is good, location close to shopping mall, zoo and Kids museum. Will stay again.

free breakfast was beyond expectations

overall the hotel was great! Close to what we needed and convenient to lots of other things...shopping, OMSI, movies, etc. We had a room with 2 queen beds. One of the beds was so hard we could not use it...was like sleeping on a board....the other bed was perfect.....breakfast was great and our waitress was delightful and very helpful getting us directions we needed for our gymnastics meet. My son has food allergies and they made sure everything was perfect!!!! Would stay here again if I could guarentee better beds. My child loved the gazebo and fountains!!!!!

Wasn't awesome, I have stayed in other shilo's that were much more comfortable, the service was pretty good, bed was a little on the hard side, room was pretty clean, breakfast was good and bad, they don't have your normal buffet style breakfast, its a restaurant style, only 4 or 5 free items, you get three dollars off the remaining items

A cheap option for sure. Don't expect too much, however the complimentary breakfast was the best I've had in a hotel (5star or not) so far. Quiet, staff was nice enough, clean room, I'd stay again if I were in the area.

Hotel needs an makeover! Paint the outside of the building, bring the rooms decore up to 1990's, have working equipment if you have an exercise room (bike was 50 years old and broken), and free breakfast isn't free.

The rooms are older, but have been updated from the 70's look, although they can't seem to shake the 70's feel. For the money though, there are no complaints. The place was clean, the service great and the breakfast was 5 plus! They offer you a full, delicious, sit-down (no buffet in sight) breakfast complete with tea or coffee with your stay. Yes, we will return!

This hotel is older but reasonably clean and comfortable. But the complimentary breakfast was awful. Eggs were runny and potatoes bland. Brought my wife the wrong cereal. Worst of all was waitress. She took our order and then disappeared. When order finally came, she disappeared again. Guests were coming in and being ignored for up to 15 minutes. She never came back to see is breakfast was okay (wasn't-wife couldn't eat cereal as she's diabetic) and never refilled our coffee. Never go for breakfast here again.

yes, it's dated but if you don't need to spend a lot of time in your room, you can't beat the price. There is a "newer" building on the property that was updated about ten years ago according to the front desk staff. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean but needed soem minor maintenance such as replacing the caulking around the fixtures but they worked. The TV is an old style CRT and the text was a bit fuzzy. I will admit this is not my first choice for a hotel but I was on a bit of a budget. If I needed to I would stay at the same place.

My son, who stayed in the room, dictated to me for the review. He felt like the inside of the hotel and the rooms were much nicer than the outside. He felt the outside of the buliding needed some updating and repairs. He did feel his room was clean and comfortable.

it was OK. the only thing unexpected was the bill at Breakfast Time. It was not clear that complimentary one won't cover the whole Menu . Other than that it was good for the price.

The location was excellent, I rented the room for me to stay after NYE's party which took place 2 blocks away. The room was recently updated, had new TV, and the bed was comfortable, and everything in the room was in excellent condition. The breakfast which was complimentary was good. The restaurant need more servers to handle the flow of people wanting breakfast, one food server and about 10 tables at one time. They could have used a bus boy to furnish water, coffee, clean tables etc. The ambience of the restaurant was nice, old rustic look....

We had two families and booked two non-smoking rooms for one night on December 30, 2012. The hotel is spacious and clean. It's a very convenient place where we could go to Downtown Portland, the Groto and Woodburn stores easily. There is a restaurant inside the hotel and there are some restaurant nearby. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is wonderful. The only two things that I would mention are: in one of our rooms, room 206 (1) the heater, didn't turn off automatically after reaching the temperature, and so that we had to turn it off during the night and turn on in the next morning; (2)we were missing the coffee pot, and we had to just use cups instead. However, our stay was happy and we will definitely go back and recommend it to friends.

This hotel has been around awhile, so building and decor is a little dated, but the rooms are clean and spacious, and we'd definitely recommend it as a place to stay. Very reasonable. Not alot of other amenities immediately around the hotel, but plenty within a short drive. Grounds are nice with a large courtyard, fountain and pool area in the middle of the building complex. Front desk staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Room price includes a complimentary hot breakfast--you can choose from 3 different breakfasts off the regular dining room menu. If none of those appeal, you can choose another item, but will pay a small additional cost. Although we didn't eat any other meals in the dining room, we were very pleased and surprised at the quality of the breakfast--we chose one of the complimentary items, and everything was cooked perfectly and was tasty; the dishes were your basic breakfast fare (nothing too innovative), but we both agreed that it was one of the best-cooked breakfasts we've had in a restaurant, in that the dishes were well-executed (eggs cooked just right, etc.). We had a "family meeting" in the dining room on our second morning at the hotel, and the staff was very helpful in giving us a place to meet that was a little more private then being appropriately attentive while also giving us space to have the needed discussion with minimal interruption.

Definitely ask for a renovated room; we stayed in a double queen and it was fantastic. Toilet seat was loose, and we had to call staff to help fix our cable box which was making a static noise; other than that, top condition and very comfortable. Staff are extremely helpful, friendly, and responsive. We made good use of the mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker because we stayed for three nights and wanted to save on food costs. Will definitely stay again and recommend to friends!

The staff are very friendly & helpful. The security & safety of the hotel should be improved. Anyone off the street can enter the building 24/7 & rooms have keys (not electronic cards). Safety was a high concern when I returned to the hotel after dark.
