This hotel is an ideal place for a couple for a short stay, the setting is what you are paying for being right on the Thames with breath taking scenery. Food was well too expensive for even the cheapest thing on the menu and as for breakfast well over priced . Nice little pub up the road did serve A1 food for a much better price, Rooms are clean and ok for size but directly outside my window was an air handling unit running until nearly midnight and starting up at 6am. Ask for a room that overlooks the Thames not the car park.

This hotel has a lovely setting, backing on to the river, and the surrounding area is peaceful and relaxing. I was a little disappointed with the hotel aitself, I feel that it needs a little updating for a 4 star hotel. I was also disappointed with the service in the main restaurant, it was not busy and took 2 hours for us to be served a 3 course meal. Small details we disappoint as well, we were given the menu and asked if we wanted to see the wine list, which then turned up 10 minutes later - should have been presented to us at the samne time. On a plus, the starter and main course were lovely, disappointed with the choice of dessert, my sticky toffee pudding was very dry, and tasted like it had been heated in the microwave and I was not prepared to pay a £5.50 supplement, per person, for cheese board. The bar staff seemed quite unhappy, and prepared to talk to me about how badly their employment was, not presenting a good image for the hotel. A hotel that has the potential to be so much more, but sadly let me down in areas on this occasion.

The floor boards made so much noise and the shower in the room I stayed in was very dated. I arrived late at night and left early so I cannot comment on meals, service or any other facilities because I did not use any.

Great location and excellent dining, however hotel is tired and in need of upgrading internally.

This hotel is good value for money. I stayed in one of their single rooms. Although small it was not too cramped, and although 'tired' it was very clean and had everything you needed. I found it a bit annoying that althogh there was a tv there wasn't anywhere you could sit and watch it - it was too low to view from the bed so it would have been more sensible to wall mount it. Excellent gym. Very accomodating staff. If I hadn't been there on business I would have taken advantage of the spa but it closes for treatments at 5.30. Would stay again.

The swan is an out-of-the-way kind of hotel, situated on the Thames river which flows between the villages of Goring and Streatley. It is a quiet respite in the lolling hillsides of the Goring gap, and is a great place to enjoy the quietudes of English countryside. Goring has a few shops and restaurants that are an easy walk across the bridge, though the restaurant and bar at the Swan are both very good. The train station at Goring is about 15 minutes walk through the idyllic village of Goring. This is a great place to stay quietly out in the country, but it is by no means the most convenient location for people visiting London, Reading, Oxford, or similar large towns if they are in a hurry. Instead, if you can take some time to slow down and enjoy the evenings, then consider the short train ride to Goring and a brief walk to the Swan -- it is historic, lovely, and worth the bit of extra effort.
