Relatively small hotel (40-50 rooms?) with plenty-big rooms. I had a very comfy king-size bed. Very convenient walk to Columbus Circle. Friendly staff. Rooms stylishly designed and recently remodeled. Great shower! My room was off the street, so very quiet! Nice lounge on 2nd floor to grab some coffee and wait for friends. Very happy, and would definitely stay here again.

What a delight to find this hotel! The location is perfect. You are steps away from Times Square but being the hotel is located on a side street, you don't have the hussle & bussle of the all the people. This is my first time staying in a boutique hotel and the customer service was excellent! The hotel is definitely has a hip feel to it and being it was a girls night out, the hotel was a perfect fit! I picked the loft suite after looking at some of the reviews and was not disappointed. Parking was so conveinent as it's right next door and they even have a special rate if you are a hotel guest. Next time I have to stay overnight in the city, this is where I am staying!

We don't heard street voices at night at all.

I selected this hotel b/c it had mostly positive ratings. Overall, I think it was a bit overrated. The rooms were small and not very clean. Sheets seemed like they hadn't been washed - blood stains and large hairs all over both beds. The service was fine - admittedly, I didn't use/need any services. The location is excellent - close to several tourist attractions. Look for a room on a higher floor, as my 1st floor room had a view of scaffolding and a brick wall - not even worth opening the blinds.

My wife and I just spent a week in New York and stayed vat the Moderne. It is fabulous if you are looking for comfort, decor and friendly efficient staff. It is quite small and provides fruit, coffee and tea all the time with cake for breakfast. The beds are superb, about 7ft wide with memory foam mattresses and lovely squidgy pillows. There are only about a dozen people working there, and they are all friendly, whilst Victoria on Reception is a treasure!

The Moderne is a small (8 floors x 4-5 rooms per floor) hotel in midtown, convenient to everything. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are well-appointed and fairly large (for Manhattan standards). Definitely gets my recommendation!

The room was a bit dark with the only window facing a brick wall. However, it is contemporary setting more than made up for this; in any case when in New York all I do is sleep in the room so I was happy. Complimentary coffee in the morning was a nice touch and the hotel provides a good free wifi service. Would stay here again!

-great location/everything is accessible! -amazing/knowledgeable/personable staff members -free wine & cheese in the lounge (middle of the road on both accounts but it is FREE)! -adorable boutique hotel -the parking garage literally next door gives you a ridiculous discount for having stayed at the moderne!!!!!

Very nice hotel, extremly friendly and helpful staff (Thank you Teddy and CJ), and great location. I had an issue with housekeeping upon arrival (my top bed sheet was missing) but once I let the front desk know, it was resolved quickly. I will consider staying at this hotel again!

Be careful here because their basic rooms have very little natural light. If you like sleeping in a dark hole then you're fine, but I need some sunlight. We checked in to find out our room was just too dark for me - the one window looks out into a dark breezeway. We upgraded to a "studio suite" with a ton of windows (of course for an additional fee). Other than this gripe, the hotel was inflexible with my requests for early check in/out, though we were able to check in early when we arrived. The room was modern, clean, and comfortable. The building has a super old elevator that is really slow and I imagine that if the hotel had been at full occupancy, waiting for it would have really annoyed me. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They do not have a fitness center on site - they give you passes to Gold's Gym - I was not prepared for this and didn't bring a lock. gym bag etc...Overall this hotel was fine. Not excellent, but fine.

Great front desk staff. Super location with access to Central Park, Theater District and more. Only negative was the weak continental breakfast offering....

We got a fantastic price through hotels.com on this amazingly convenient hotel between Times Square and Columbus Circle (Midtown West - just south of Central Park West). Close to Lincoln Center and multiple subway lines. Granted, we visited in late January, which is probably not a banner tourism time of year, which is probably why the price was so good -- but in Manhattan one usually expects thin walls and bed-bugs at prices like this. The room was very clean and comfortable, the free wifi was excellent quality, and we didn't hear a *PEEP* from other guests. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Absolutely no complaints: extremely satisfied :)

I've stayed in a lot of hotels in NYC. Most feel like hotels. This one feels like staying in a piece of art. Even if you don't like modern design aesthetics, I still highly recommend it. On top of being very comfortable and clean, it is a feast for the senses.

The decor will put a smile on your face and we couldn't get over how friendly the whole staff was. The room was ready early and the evening wine and cheese was a nice plus before our short walk to the theater. Would go back again.

Great Staff!

Stayed one night in a king room at the Moderne when visiting NYC to go to a play. The room was on the smallish size, but who spends time in their room when you are in NYC. They have free coffee and breads in the AM and wine & cheese in the PM in their 2nd floor lounge. The room was clean and the bathroom looked like it had been recently updated. Again a little on the small size, but nice open stall, tiled shower with two heads. The staff was very nice and made a great recommendation for dinner and happily made reservations on our behalf. Overall, great value for the price.

As someone who has traveled all over the world and stayed in everything from makeshift "hostels" (a pull-out couch in an apartment near a train station) and 5 star resorts, I found that the Moderne Hotel fit nicely into the category of small friendly European style hotel. The decor aside (you get the gist from the pictures), the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The rooms were what I expected (small, not tiny, but comfortable), and the location was just right for someone who plans to catch a show on Broadway, hit up a comedy club, or catch any of the major tourist attractions.

Very happy with our choice. We travel frequently and usually stay at the same place. This will be our new favorite place. Very clean. Great decor. Location was perfect to travel midtown. Front of house was very friendly every single time we entered or left the building. Our heater was not working correctly and in no time, maintenance came to our room and realized the problem was in the basement. We have no complaints...every single detail was nailed. We will tell all of our friends and family. Thanks for such an amazing experience!

The room was very small and the low level of the bed made it uncomfortable to get in & out of not to mention the bed legs that stuck out and stubbed both our toes. Their ads clearly state a $33 parking fee which is actually $51! We looked at their price list and an honest mistake is not possible, it's unquestionably not the price! OTOH the bathroom was great!

We had a great experience at The Moderne! The rooms were very clean and beds very comfortable! This was our first stay here and we will return!! The hotel is within walking distance to lots of major attractions! We are hard critics of hotels but, this was a great stay and will recommend to family and friends!

We stayed for one night to visit family and go to a Ranger hockey game at MSG. Great location, terrific staff, superb bedding, pillows, towels, EXTREMELY CLEAN THROUGHOUT, discounted parking next door, safe neighborhood, close to subway, walk to theaters, unlimited dining options within walking distance. Room was quiet and beautifully decorated. Nice second floor lounge with wine, cheese, coffee, ice. This hotel was beautiful, very clean, great staff. Bottom line: I will definitely stay here again (and I am a tough customer). I enthusiastically recommend this property without hesitation.

Hotel was in a great location and the staff were great. However, for the price of the room it was a little small for a "suite" and the bathroom had a couple areas on the wall and ceiling that had sheetrock missing where you could see into the wall space and crawl space above the ceiling. Not sure if they were doing work in the walls and just didn't have time to patch up the voids or if during contruction someone forgot to close up the walls - Either way like i said, for the money it would have been nice to not be able to see into the walls.

After attending meetings all day in NYC, I arrived at the hotel at 7 PM. I had a suite booked. Upon my arrival, I was told that there was NO suite for me, as it was under construction and they would have to move me to thier sister hotel on the next block, the Ameritania Hotel. From the moment I arrived at the Ameritania, things went from bad to worse. NEVER EVER EVER AM I STAYING AT EITHER OF THERE HOTELS AGAIN. I travel frequently for business and have NEVER had as bad an experience as on this trip! Let's just say the final straw was when BOTH elevators were non-functional and there was no service elevator to take. I had to carry my luggage down TWELVE floors down a steep stairwell with broken or non existent railings to the lobby. I couldn't t wait to get out of there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great hotel. Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. Great location. Rooms were spotless and a lot of fun. We would definitely return.

I booked this room at the last minute to stay overnight in the city after seeing a show at Carnege Hall and could not have been more pleased. The location is great - an easy walk to Carnege Hall, Radio City and Broadway. Excellent restaurants are also nearby. While they do not have parking, there is a parking garage next door with a Moderne discount. The small room sizes are compensated for with a wonderful common area that provided snacks and drinks with more than ample seating. Best of the was the service. From the front desk to the maids, everyone was freindly, helpful and eager to please.

Very friendly hotel, close to MoMA and more. Has been recently renovated and the rooms are very nice. Meets my criteria; glass glasses (not plastic), good (great) shower and big towels. The bed was comfortable, wi-fi easy to get to, I'll go back.

We loved our stay at the Moderne. The staff was very friendly and gave us no grief when we requested a late checkout at the last minute. The room was small but very clean and well-appointed. Our only gripe is that my poor husband kept hitting his ankle on the corner of the leather platform bed. The bed was very comfortable though! The bathroom was very small but nice, with very nice products. The shower didn't get hot enough for us unfortunately. The midtown location is super convenient and removed from the uber-touristy Times Square. While it's not the most picturesque part of town it's a great place to stay to be close to everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay here again and recommend to friends!

Its a really nice little hotel. Rooms are nice and remodeled and bathrooms are great. My only issues were the problems getting hot water and channel selection is really bad. Literally only like 8 relevant channels and had to go across to McGee's (nice bar by the way) to watch a game. Would stay here again

I would highly recommend The Moderne. The location is great, the rooms kept clean, and the best part: the front desk staff is very helpful. The staff gladly shared their knowledge about good restaurants, bars and places to go, and helped with reservations. Allways with a smile.

Iniatially apprehensive about decor of hotel and rooms but was very pleased. Hotel had just gone through updating and was in very good condition. Colors and decor of rooms were very well coordinated and was very comfortable. The hotel staff was very professional and accomodating. Would highly recommend this hotel and would definetly stay there again.

We found out about the Moderne from Trip Advisor and booked our stay with not much expectation as this was our 2nd visit to NYC and we knew better than to expect much at the rates that we got the Moderne for. Boy were we wrong. The room was exactly what it looked like in the photos and the king size bed was heavenly. Yes closet space in the the room was a bit small but this is as expected so we didn't really mind the lack of space. My wife especially love the robes and the shower room. The staff was friendly and helpful and we especially recommend Teddy and Basheer. The lounge on the 2nd floor was simply inviting and we enjoyed the early morning coffee and cakes that filled us up before we go out on our trips around the city. The Moderne is also located near to all subway stations which made our journey around the city truly an easy one. The close proximity to Central Park and Times Square was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this hotel to visitors of the Big Apple. A definite value for money and an incredible bargain.

My wife and I stayed here on our 25th Anniversary. The hotel was very clean and the staff helpful. After hearing it was our anniversary a bottle of wine and a cupcake was waiting in the room for us. Hotel convienent to theaters and Times Sguare. Rooms ARE small but from what I've heard many are in Manhattan.

Just a block off Broadway, easily overlooked in a non-descript block of a cross-town street - but step in doors and what a find! What you don't get: a restaurant or bar. But how many food and drink options are there within blocks? Who needs one in the hotel. What you do get: a very very spacious room. Upscale contemporary furnishings. Clean as a whistle. Free WiFi. A guest lounge with coffee available anytime and light refreshment in the mornings and evenings. A very attentive staff: I needed a cab to Laguardia in the middle of rush hour. The hotel valet dashed down the street and before I got from the front desk to the door had ridden back in the taxi and had it waiting for me. I get to NY several times a year. I need a comfortable space to sleep and perhaps work a little, that is convenient to midtown on foot, and that doesn't feel like a cattle herding facility. This one goes to the top of my list.

For anyone who has tried to find accommodation in NYC you would know you usually have to pay a heap to get something that is just ok. The Moderne was amazing value for money. The room was super clean and the entire bathroom was scrubbed down every day. And they use white linen which doesn't hide anything so we knew the beds were clean too. Service was fantastic. Vicki at the front desk was so friendly and welcoming. She had great recommendations for food and if you needed help getting somewhere she would do all the research and print out instructions. Also she lent us hotel umbrellas during the rain. Location was great too with the hotel being within walking distance of many of the main attractions as well as having sub-way stops on either side of the hotel which could connect you to the rest of the city too. Tip: check out the soup man (made famous by Seinfeld) and the kareoke/japanese restaurant next door. Fabulous food for under $10 per person.

This is a very small boutique hotel but certainly worth a stop. My room was small was very well appointed and comfortable. The only problem was the lack of power strips next to the bed. The decor is unique and different (black/white/red). What I like the most was the staff-equally small--from the people at the front desk to the doorman to the cleaning supervisor, everyone was young, hip, friendly and responsive. I felt that I was a regular on my first stay there. Will definitelly consider again when staying in NYC.

The hotel was fine. The staff was very nice and helpful. Location was great. Unfortunately, when we went on hotels.com the most important thing for us was that the hotel had a movie rental channel. All we wanted to do was get food and watch a movie (relax and rest). We made sure on line that we could do that. We booked the room and not only did they not have a way to rent an in room movie, they had a very small amount of channels. No HBO...etc. So we were pretty disappointed and rented a room at a different hotel the next night.

I'm a big fan of boutiques hotels, and this one did not disappoint. From the cubism fixtures to the cleanliness of the room to the modern wallpaper and flooring, the modern was a great experience. Every floor had a different theme. The elevator is slow and I would have liked to have pay-per-view movies in the rooms, but I understand they're negotiating for an Apple iMovies product. Bathrooms are a little tight, but the rainshower head, marble surrounds, and strong water pressure made it a very enjoyable experience. Looking forward to next stay.

We loved our 6 night stay here. The location and staff were excellent. It is clean and newly remodeled. The rooms are small, but well designed and have everything. Our only complaint would be that the mattress on the king size bed was a bit hard for our liking, but when we talked to the staff they were very helpful in finding additional padding that helped very much.

Easy walk to Lincoln Center, Columbus Circle, Central Park, MOMA. Room very small but well kept and well appointed. Very good bathroom. Good lighting. Quiet.
