Americana Inn - نيويورك

I did not realize until I entered my room that there was no bathroom attached; the bathroom was down the hall. It compares well to the types of tourist hotels and B&B's I used to stay in in Europe; it is not in the same league as the other nearby hotels in NYC. However, having said that, it was cheap (for NYC) and convenient to the conference I was attending.

I found the location good for getting to everything in Midtown. I thought the room was very clean and comfortable. I felt very safe in the hotel and walking too and from the hotel even after an evening broadway show. I did not however like the shared bathroom arrangement the wait was longer than I liked and the bathroom wasn't always in the cleanest condidtion. I will add that it wasn't entirely the fault of the hotel staff.

Great location, Best room I had in New York over two weeks, but the room was 85 deg F and the airconditioner did not work and there was a diesel generator outside running on high revolutions and I got 2 hours sleep...

NYC - all the excitement should be happening *outside* so why worry about the inside?Rooms were clean, located close to Penn Station which suited our needs. However, they did inadvertenly double charge me - which they informed me about so i appreciate their honesty. Tough to find in this town!

this was a bare bones accomodation, but it suited my needsl No complaint.

I missed the small print (my fault) that stated shared bath. The room was small but clean. The noise was UNBEARABLE. I was on the fifth floor and I felt like I was on the sidewalk. There was no barrier.

This was a very nice hotel to stay in. Room was very clean and comfortable. The location was very central to Times Square etc. Only gripe would be the bathrooms/toilet are shared which I don't like but that said they were amazingly clean.

this hour should charge per hour. I didn't even sleep in my room I was so unsatisfied.

The location was great, so for the money, we can't complain too much. This appeared to be a regular hotel room, but it is single rooms with shared bathrooms (not a deal-breaker if the price is low enough, but the main website was a little misleading) We had a 5th floor room - the windows were poorly insulated, with broken blinds - it made it really difficult to sleep. Would have loved to bring earplugs.

The Americana Inn is in a most convenient location. The staff is friendly and the cleanliness of the rooms is great. It turned cold during my recent stay and this prevented me from opening the window. With the heat coming from the floor I was suffocating and woke up with a headache. Air conditioning would save the day. The TV also was old and fuzzy with very limited channels.

Clean, spartan: noisy outside but I slept as well as usual anyway. Okay for travelers who are fine with hostelling and would rather spend money on other things.

The rooms do not have their own bathrooms or showers!! Everything is common...we had a bed, a nightstand, and a sink, and that was it! Floors were linoleum and A/C was a window unit - which was barely sealed and very LOUD. It was more like a hostel than a hotel room. Thankfully the sheets were clean, but we left hoping that the smell of the hotel didn't leave with us -- it did. This is fine if you're there for one night and just need a bed, but don't expect anything else. You barely get soap. No alarm clock.

location is great! room was small and shared bathroom was not.price was right!

I'm not too picky when it comes to comfort and I try to find decent places for cheap prices. I will never again stay at Americana Inn even though I knew what I was in for. I didn't think I would mind the fact that I would have to share a bathroom with others on my floor, but when I got there, I realized that I did mind. It lacks privacy and is annoying if you need to use a shower and someone else is in it. Maybe it was just my room, but I was extremely uncomfortable with the fact the the blinds didn't fit the whole window. So as I walked around naked in my room after a shower, all of 38th street could see me if they bothered to look. Peep show! Lastly, my window wouldn't close. I tried to fix it, but it kept opening. Lucky me. Try sleeping in a busy city with an open window while, of course, the head of the bed is practically IN the window. I might as well have slept on the sidewalk as loud as it was. I will say it is nice that each floor has a kitchen. That's cool. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend staying there unless you absolutely have no choice.

Clean room and clean bathrooms, nice and friendly staff. Just a couple blocks from times square. Quiet at night even with window open. Great price. Con-bring a fan during the summer, it was a little hot throughout building I'd open window and it cooled off fast.

I have stayed in some real cheap hotels in NYC, and this one was comparable to those bare-bones place, but it did have the advantage of being clean. There are no carpets in the hotel, just tiled floor. This seems to be cleaned regularly and there are no ratty carpets which are a hallmark of the NYC flophouses. And really that's what this is--a flophouse. Somewhere to put your stuff during the day and sleep at night. If you don't expect anything more you won't be disappointed.

Unbeatable rate and location. But, some residents are not guests but long-term renters who use the shared bathroom and kitchen like their own home. They were annoying.

For the budget minded traveller who's not planning to stay in, this is a good option. Ideal for a single or couple looking to explore mid-town Manhattan. This is not the Peninsula but is better than a hostel.

Good location, but the tiny room was very basic and small. No headboard on the bed, and only a wooden chair, so no comfortable place to sit and read or watch tv. Bathroom was very basic and dorm-like. Bathroom floor was wet, and there was no shelf or bench to place things. Window shade did not block light well, and there was light coming in at night. OK if you just need a place to sleep.

- If you manage to lie down on the really shaky, creaky bed, the really, really loud air conditioning unit will be roaring 3 inches from your skull, behind the headboard. Conversations will be a problem. - Bathrooms ARE SHARED. They do mention this in the hotel description, but it's easy to miss it. - Bathtubs/showers in the shared bathrooms don't drain well. - The room is small. Not its-not-larger-than-my-apartment small, it's about 80 square feet in size, and very hard to drag your suitcase through. - The basin in the room is about 4 inches from the bed. - Front desk staff alternate between a friendly youth and a sour man who treats you like an annoyance.

There was a bad chemical smell in the room that permeated my clothes. The other residents were very lax in cleaning up after themselves in the common bath - and we aren't talking towels on the floor either. You couldn't have just one small light on for reading - you had to turn on all lights or no lights - and the switch was across the room from the bed - good luck getting back. I felt unclean after I left the place.

I recently stayed at the Americana Inn for the second time (my last visit was the summer of 2010) - there was no questions as to my choice because this budget hotel is in the ideal location (38th and 6th, just 4 streets from Times Sq and Herald Sq), and for the price it really is a winner - nothing fancy, but rooms are comfortable and bathrooms clean. I stayed in a single room for 4 nights before moving to a double twin for a further 3 nights when a friend joined me - the first room was small but fine for my needs, the bathroom down the corridor was clean and I only witnessed 1 incident of a bit of a gross toilet (but there is always another bathroom close by). You could even pick up good wifi from the Pret on the corner (thrid floor room). Even though I stayed in Feb, it wasn't very cold but the heating in the rooms is centrally controlled and was really very warm, nothing opening the window for a bit couldn't fix though. The bigger room was up on the 5th floor and again was perfect for our needs. It was also ready early so I could easily move my stuff from one room to the other at 10am. This room had an air con system which was useful to turn on at night too. Both rooms were cleaned every day. Hotel staff were friendly and always said good morning - the only downside was that the elevator was out of use for 2 days (one of which was a day when I was checking out so would have to lug my suitcase down 5 flights of stairs), but after 2 flights, a hotel worker insisted on carrying it for me and made very light work of it :-) There is a great deli across the street on the Avenue of the Americas, a Pret on the corner for a morning coffee, a really good noodle house which does takeaway too, and loads of places to pick up a quick sandwich or breakfast. The Americana Inn is also within a 4 minute walk of Bryant Park subway and also 34th St Herald Sq in the other direction so well connected. Clean and very well located, although the room wasn't warm enough. Perfect for a budget trip.

If you're in the city for a few days and need a central, inexpensive place to crash, this is your best bet. This is not the Taj Mahal but the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Here is the deal. This place is NOT for family. You get a small room with a TV, bed, and a sink. If you want to use the bathroom there are 5 bathrooms (1 sink, toilet, shower) on each floor. You have to share these. Your rooms do lock and they're secure. I'd say if you're in NYC on business or you and a friend just looking for a place to put your crap while you see the city this place is amazing. But, it's not anything to write home about... It's like a 5 minute walk to Time Square. So really you can't complain. If you're looking for a 5 star be ready to pay. but me being a single dude I'd stay here again... But, if I had a chick with me I'd spring the cash for an actual bathroom because I'm a gentleman like that....

I needed a room for the night and I needed a local room near my travel and this was just what I needed. the room was just the basics but that was what I needed. It was in walking distance all of the places I needed or wanted. the room itself was comfortable and clean. I had no complaints or recommendations. What I paid in NYC I expected. All in all I was satisfied and would recommend to others.

Location, neighbourhood, maintainance, comfort and cleanliness was good. Only One drawback is the use of common restrooms. Single guys can adjust with this facility but not family members. We hardly stayed for 5-6 hours per day to sleep during nights. Good place at the heart of all attractions. We loved the walk towards Times Square and other POI nearby.

This hotel is close to Times Square. There is a great deli across the street for early morning and late night hunger. The rooms are extremely small but who stays in their room while in the city. I would stay here again.

I liked the general condition of the hotel. Its centrally located, clean and fairly compares well with NYC downtown hotels. Its a good place to be especially for those wishing to visit offices in the City

Though it took time to get hot water from shower, the bed was big enogh for comfortable sleep. It wouldve been better if there was a coffee maker in the room. Nice staff, good location, definitely worth money. I would come back again. Thanx a lot, Americana Inn!

great location for good price.. worth staying here. heat was not enough and we didn't have control of it.

The Americana couldn't be in a better location to see Times Square, Broadway, Herald Square, Bryant Park/Fashion District. The rooms are small, but clean and comfy. The bathroom is shared (so your towel, soap, TP, etc. is located in a nice basket in your room), but is also very clean. I would describe the Americana as staying in an incredibly posh hostel with all private rooms. The linens were hotel quality--you just have to share a bathroom, which is also hotel quality. The front desk staff were all very kind and helpful. You can check your bag in early, or leave it behind if you check out before you actually leave NYC. You're very near restaurants, and every kind of button/trimming store you'll ever need. I highly recommend!

If your looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Manhattan and you don't mind a small room, this is your place. Like everyone says, there is no bathroom in the room and the room is pretty small, but the hotel is within walking distance of many major attractions. I didn't mind the small room because I was only there for 2 nights and the room was fairly nice. I had a good experience there.

This is really a bargain-basement place, though it's not nearly as cheap as it should have been. My room was closet-sized. Just enough space to set a bag down at the foot of the twin bed and to walk around the sink. No table or desk or chair to set up a laptop. The worst thing, for me, was that there wasn't even a lamp over the bed or beside the bed. I wanted to read for a while before I went to sleep, but the only light was the main overhead light and the switch for that lay on the opposite side of the room. With the shared bathrooms and the total lack of any amenities whatsoever, I felt it was quite overpriced, even for Manhattan.
