The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii - هاواي (ذا بيغ آيلاند)

Hotel staff were very accommodating. Our room was clean and very comfortable. Beautiful place all around!

The Fairmont Orchid is a great hotel on the Big Island. Comfortable rooms, lots of restaurant options, great pool and view of the ocean. It's fairly isolated, so renting a car is a good idea if you want to see the island (and car rentals are cheap). We tried a few restaurants in Kailau and were very pleased, especially Jackie Rey's and Kona Brewery. If you want to relax, enjoy the weather and take it easy you cannot go wrong here.

Overall I would give this hotel an excellent rating. Everyone was very pleasant, food was very good and valets were quick on their toes.

We had a great time at the Fairmont Orchid. Gold, views, food and drinks left us completely thrilled. This was the final and memorable day, morning and night of our trip to Hawaii

Exceptional service, friendly staff, beautifully maintained grounds, lots of great beachfront property adjacent and onsite to walk or jog along, lagoon was great for water activities staying close to the resort...definitely would recommend.

Beautiful resort, extremely quiet. Had the entire swimming pool to myself on more than one occasion. Staff could not be more friendly. Highly recommend!!!

This hotel is not for kids. Good for adults that want a quiet and relaxing stay. The shuttle service is the best! They take you next door to Maunalani, which we ate for Breakfast Buffet. They also take you to the small shopping center that had the greatest Japanese Restaurant and a grocery store that you can get cheaper food. The cove beach area is the nicest I have ever seen on the islands ( and I live here!) a really nice place to snorkel, paddle board, catch crabs and have fun with kids. We sat and watched the sun set and collected sea shells. I highly recommend if you want someplace quiet. It is close to Waimea (20min drive) but far from the airport and Kailua Kona town (45mins). I would go back there again

Expensive-but what isn't in Hawaii. Resort was great. Housekeeping did an excellent job every day. W/in a mile of small shopping w/ 5 restaurants, groecery store, coffee shop. About 2-3 miles south is much bigger shopping area.

The hotel was amazing. I am so glad that I joined the Fairmont President's Club before going (it's free) - there were all sorts of extra perks from that. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here on the last night of eight nights on the big island. Beautiful hotel and location. We are not big resort people (we spent most nights at B&Bs) and found it a nice change of pace. However, some things on site are quite expensive and they charge for basically every little incidental. Grocery stores are a short drive away.

Lovely hotel overall, wonderful setting snd scale. Food in the restaurants we tried was excelllent. Room was good not gorgeous. Unfortunate that one has to pay for parking and for wireless and it was annoying that the nicest section of the beach was closed one entire day for a private function.

Overall, our stay was wonderful. We did pay premium for an ocean view and ours was partial ocean view so somewhat disappointed about that. The hotel staff was very cordial and helpful. Concierge desk was very knowledgeable and helpful. Had some trouble with product purchased at the spa but it was cheerfully exchanged.

The Fairmont hotel chain has a reputation for quality that comes at a price. The Fairmont Orchid does not live up to this reputation. Here are three examples: 1) Instead of breezeways and Hawaiian-style architecture, the hotel felt more like a cheap motel, carpeted halls, cheaply made patio doors, holes in the sheets. 2) The hotel charges $17 a day for self-parking, which is like parking in a supermarket parking lot instead of a parking structure. The parking lot is almost at capacity, so you have to circle around a few times to find a space. You could pay $22 for valet service, but why charge for parking, what's the alternative? Park outside the hotel property? 3) The beach looks beautiful from the photos, crystal clear blue water, etc. but in reality, it is a tiny, dirty, crowded bay. The water gets stirred up and murky, and you can barely swim without getting run over by a paddle board or kayak. I could see this kind of experience if the hotel charged $150 a night, but it's the Fairmont, and I don't see how they can compete when you have an amazing hotel like the Hapuna Prince right down the road, on a better beach!

Great location and, generally, the amenities. Part of the Mauna Lani Resort, a major benefit. Gives you access to sports facilities, golf courses, Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and shopping nearby. Resort a bit faded.

We stayed on their Gold Floor, which, if you can afford it or find a deal, is 100% worth it – added SO much to an already-wonderful experience.

nice hotel lobby, restaurant, beach, and pool. The King Kam provided a nice luau, although it got a bit long and we left early. The rooms are a little dated in layout, but the hotel has had recent renovations. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If we were in this area, we would stay again.

My wife and I wanted to get away for a few days and have some romantic, quiet, down time. The Fairmont Orchid delivered on all fronts. We had great service, a great room and a great time. We will go back again as soon as we can get away.

We loved the staff, the location, the private beach/cove, the hiking trails and the restaurants. We also booked the Gold Club level which afforded us breakfast each morning, for d'ouerves and free sodas/water throughout our stay. We can't wait to return in a few years with our little one.

Lovely hotel, although a little isolated. Not much dining choice

this place rocked. Perfect setting great staff, beautiful accessible beach good food excellent service. Expensive but you do get what you pay for.

This was our first time to Hawaii, and we found the Fairmont to be very nice. Less than 30 minutes from Kona Airport, very close to many top golf courses - Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea, Waikiloa and the Four Seasons -- all highly recommended. We had friends staying at Four Seasons, which had some advantages over the Fairmont, but also some disadvantages, and we personally couldn't justify the price difference. We'd stay here again.

Great hotel. Only drawback is that it is a 40 minute drive to Kona. Plus is you are only 45 minutes from the North side which is magical.

We love this hotel and have stayed here several times. We have never been disappointed. As always, the staff and the hotel itself were wonderful. We came here to celebrate our tenth anniversary. We made reservations at Brown's Beach house for the night of our anniversary, but we were both disappointed in our experience. The waiter was wonderful, but the menu was lacking. I think for the price of our meal, we should have walked away satisfied. I had a fish sampler. It was just that, a sample. It was also over cooked. My wife had a pork chop. I have to admit, it was pretty good, but it was JUST a pork chop with Easy-Mac. Not what you expect from a hotel of this caliber. We still love this place, but the experience at the restaurant was not what we expected.

We had a great time at the Fairmont Ochid on the Big Island. The beach was great perfect for our 4 year old, it is very calm no waves at all. He even masted snorkling which can be done in 3 feet of water. This is a pricey resort but there is a grocery store, coffe shop and some resturants just up the street.

I had booked the partial ocean view room and I was not happy with the view. We called up the front desk to give us another room and while they were accomodating, the view in the second room wasnt great either. The ocean was too far and we had to crane our necks out on the patio above all the trees to catch a glimpse of the water. For the money that I paid for this room, I feel like I was cheated. The hotel is very big so be prepared to walk a good distance to get to the pool and laguna. Everything is very expensive especially food and drinks.

Luxury hotel, very nice and exactly what I expected. Only small problem was that the bed was a little old and sagged a bit.

For a hotel that is expensive charging for the parking is ridiculous, especially when they have such a large piece of property. Also the fees for beach rental equipment was higher than we expected. The first time in a few years at a nice hotel we did not have free wifi in our room. We felt we were nickeled and dimed, which has left a bad taste

People at hotel constantly we available to please. Super knowledge of what was available to do.

My wife and I and our 2 older children ages 24 and 20 spent last week at the Fairmont Orchid on the Kohala Coast on the Big Island. Our experience there was fantastic with great service, the outstanding food, and the views of the ocean were idilic. It looked like a picture postcard from our room. We had a oceanfront room with a view overlooking the beach, and the kids had an oceanview room overlooking the hotel. We did many day trips around the island to the top of Mauna Kea (90 minutes), Kona (40 minutes), Hilo (90 minutes), so having a car was invaluable and saved us a ton of money compared to paying companies to pick us up and take us around the island. The roads are excellent (except on the top of Mauna Kea where a 4-wheel drive is recommended but we still did it) and easy to navigate. We have been to all the Hawaiian islands, and this is our favorite one, and our favorite hotel.
