The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan - كارولينا

Hotel was clean and the staff was helpful and courteous. But too pricey for what you get.

It's a Ritz-Carlton, so the hotel was good overall. But when you are staying at a Ritz-Carlton and paying top rates you expect a LOT more than good. This location pales in comparison to other Ritz-Carltons that we have stayed at, mostly due to the facilities upkeep (needs a lot of work) and food. A few notes: 1) The Junior suite is NOT a suite. It's just a room with a few extra square feet. We fell for this and had to pay an additional several hundred dollars/night+++ to get upgraded to an actual suite to accommodate our family (traveling with 2 small kids). 2) We ended up staying in three different rooms, mostly due to ongoing room maintenance issues (A/C, showers, door locks not working in various rooms). 3) The food (outside of the two good restaurants) was horribly disappointing for a Ritz-Carlton, particularly considering the price premium. Think Holiday Inn food quality. On the upside, the beach was great (best in San Juan), the pool is great, and the staff is overall very helpful and friendly. They just need to invest some time and money getting the facilities up-to-date and borrowing some recipes and/or cooks from the other Ritz-Carlton's.

great interior and of course amazing ritz service. not a great location for those who want to go back/forth into old san juan as its costly each trip in taxis. room was in excellent condition but of course not very large, as is normal.

Nice hotel but rug in lobby needed to be cleaned. My biggest issue was the cleanup. Towels & cups everywhere by the pool. 2 days I had to call to have my room cleaned. The area surrounding was not so great.

great hotel!! restaurents over priced n the food was just ok . staff and room great - food outside in the neighborhood must better , drinking and eatting with locals much more fun! location was right by airport not a problem did not go into old san juan heard it was dirty and not safe to go along , some police carry "machine guns" , taxi very high . mall was good most of the stores we have in u.s. but for a day out and away from hotel for lunch and a movie was great

Everything was great except the food in San Juan was poor or very expensive. I visit Las Vegas often and that was the biggest thing that I noticed. Food in Vegas was very good and cheap.

We recently took advantage of the Ritz's 4 for 3 promotion and had one of the best family vacation in recent memory. We are a family of 4 with two kids (5 and 2) - kids love the hotel so much they asked to stay there forever because they did not want to go back to "the USA". The highlights of the hotel are the private beach and the swimming pool with 50 workers bringing you towels and setting up your chairs and what not. I accidentally ran into the Hotel's General Manager in the elevator. I could tell he worked for the hotel but did not know he was the GM as he looked perhaps too young to be in such a senior post. After a few nicety exchanges he gave me his card and asked me to contact him if I needed anything. I told him my wife and kids have been very excited to stay at a Ritz Hotel for the first time. Guess what! That night someone knocked on the door and there came a bottle of Moet champagne in an ice bucket, chocolate covered strawberries, nice bottle of wine, a box of expensive cookie trios. We were ecstatic and touched. A couple days later in the breakfast room, the lady manager just gave us two nice Ritz bags in which there were high quality T-shirts for our kids. Really, we thought they must have mistaken us for someone famous. The last time that happened was when I was in Lebanon and someone mistook me as a grandson of Chairman Mao and I got free food and booze for an entire week. Anyway, I can't recommend the Ritz in San Juan highly enough.

The best hotel experience i have ever had!

Our one day stay at the Ritz was absolutely wonderful. This was our last stop before heading home. Compared to other hotels on the Island, even the W in Viequez, the Ritz was the best when it came to customer service. All the employees were very attentive and helpful. My mother has never stayed at the Ritz before and she felt like a queen with all of the attention. Hotel amenities are nice, especially the spa & pool. Hotel is also 5 minutes away from the airport, so its convenient. there is also a restaurant by the name of "Made in Puerto Rico" which has authentic PR food and it's walking distance. Highly recommend this hotel.

The customer service at the hotel was great. The pool servers were great at setting everything up for us the moment we got there. The front desk was nice but messed up on our wake up call we asked for. Overall it was a nice location and the beds were great. We had a great time and would recommend the Ritz.

This is a very nice, comfortable hotels. The staff went out of their way to be friendly or helpful. It is a bit pricey but what so expect after all it is the Ritz Carlton. We absolutely loved the comfort of the beds.

Great old place. The beach and pool were awesome:) the lobby was lively, the staff courteous; we had a great time:)

My boyfriend and I went on this trip to celebrate our birthdays. We thought the hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. To be expected meals at the hotel were expensive but we walked down the street of the hotel and found some great authentic reasonably priced restaurants. There was also a Walgreens next door to the hotel that we revisited daily for water, snacks, and booze and brought back to the hotel. The hotel staff either didn't care or pretended not to notice. I do wish there was a little more going on here at night but instead we walked over to El San Juan hotel and went out in Old San Juan.

We stay here because of the staff. Our daughter has special dietary needs and the chefs go above and beyond what is necessary to make her stay very pleasant and special. This is the only hotel we will stay at in San Juan.

Beautiful hotel, staff very friendly and they will accomodate your every need. The only thing is that they add a lot of taxes to your bill. Food is a little on the expensive side, we went to Don jose down the street for dinner and for breakfast to Dennys also right down the street, but then again it is the Ritz Carlton. Beautiful beach and the pool is open 24 hours.

This hotel makes discernible the difference between 4 and 5 stars. All the little extras and the very few and minor flaws make it a wonderful place to vacation

My room was dirty. Spoke with the cleaners supervisor, to the manager of the hotel, they cleaned it a little better but was still dirty. Pistachio shell's in the closet, forgotten rags in the closet, pieces of potato chips in the carpet besides my bed, sand on the bathtub and so on, not to mention that the windows were so dirty that you couldn't appreciate the view, you couldn't see outside, it was all blurry. The staff were not very interested on my complains, they didn't care. The restaurant BLT was extremely good, very attentive staff, a real 5 star establishment, what was a big contrast with the hotel, that to me was more like a 3 star hotel.

I liked it until I went to spa and steped on nail in sauna - my foot is still bothering me it was exposed through the floor board also the door was hard to open and whirlpool was cold.

People and beaches in Puerto Rico are fantastic; my expectations of the Ritz were not satisfactory. Upgraded to an Ocean View suite, windows were dirty and the worse I ever seen, showers dirty, sheets not in good condition, wood at the steam room were not secured and presented a hazard, walls black and not clean. Waited for over one hour for a server at the pool, worse service in a resort. ,Need to hire more people to attend guess. Their employees super nice, very apologetic but I guess Management is lacking service training and employees scheduling. Mares Restaurant was the best, not much variety of food but the service was excellent.

THE ENTIRE STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND PERSONABLE.

The Ritz carlton in san juan is a very good hotel,it is only about 5 minutes away from the airport,the staff are friendly and the resturants at the hotel are great,i had a ocean view room and the view was excellent

Will stay here each time in San Juan

everything about this hotel was first class

the hotel is a stone's throw from the airport, which makes things relaxed from the start as you step off the plane and into the hotel lobby to start vacationing. its located in the isla verde area of carolina, which includes the nearby san juan hotel with great dancing and live bands on the weekend, and plenty of other nearby restaurants and bars if you're feeling adventurous. the hotel, spa, pool and beach are just gorgeous, and there is little more satisfying then having a chair set just in front of the caribbean for your relaxing pleasure, while drinks and food are brought at your leisure. best dining experience: having arroz con pollo from the room service menu brought to the poolside. it is excellent! otherwise, a little disappointing that no real puerto rican dishes are available at the hotel restaurants. overall though, stay here and you will love it. enjoy PR!

Our stay was comfortable, the property immaculate and the staff very helpful. Our diner experience at the Il Mulino resturante was amazing.

Everything about this hotel was wonderful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to San Juan.

It was a trip with my 38 year old son. We have busy carreers and over the years have not taken the time to spend with one another. We did so in grand style at the Ritz Carlton Puerto Rico. The weather, the food, the people and the comfort of the hotel made incredible memories for both of us. Thank you all.

Staff is just wonderful, down to earth, super helpful. This hotel is luxuary, but mass hotel. However, it is comfortable because it is not classy like four season. Good for family. If you are looking for very romantic, intimate, first class, quiet beauty, this is not yours. We stayed for 4 nights and then moved to St. Regis. St. Regis is totally first class, but could be too quiet for fun. I loved my plan, 4 nights at Ritz Calton, 2 nights at St.Regis. I recommend to stay Ritz anyway. Also the beach itself, Ritz is much better than St. Regis. Ritz has a super tasty Italian restaurant from New York. Highly recommended.

the actual hotel and the grounds that the hotel is on is beautiful. however, the actual beach front and sand area is so sad. it is dirty and crowded. i expected a private beach for the ritz carlton. everyone is on the beach and has access. sort of scary.

Great hotel. Family had a wonderful time. The staff was extremely helpful and very courteous. Rooms were immaculate and comfortable. Kids loved the pool and the beach was steps away from the pool. I highly recommend this hotel and would not stay anywhere else when in San Juan. Note: the Ritz is normally out of our price range for vacation hotel, we got a good deal from hotel.com but since staying at the Ritz in San Juan I would not stay anywhere else.

Amazing Hotel! Friendly staff, very helpful. Hotel is on the beach great location, close to the airport and restaurants..great amenities.

The only thing I can mention is that the hotels beds are to hard, even with the pillow top.

I have stayed at the Ritz in Puerto Rico many, many times! It is exceptional. The employees are very friendly and professional. The service is great. The spa is very elegant and the staff there very professional as well. The pool attendants are very friendly. I will stay there again soon!
