Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort - تاوران

this is a gorgeous hotel. we had a room in the ocean wing with the balcony bath tub - this was incredible!! when it got too hot to be down near the pool, we headed back to the room, switched on the ceiling fan on the balcony, filled the bath with cold water and relaxed up there!! the location is great - it's about 45-60mins from the airport and it feels so nice and isolated and lovely. the nature reserve is gorgeous - definitely do the orangutan walk - incredible. if i had to fault anything about this resort, it would be that there was not enough natural shade at the pool. but there are heaps of shelters and umbrellas, so for most people this wont be an issue. i am just a bit of a sook in the heat!! the restaurants are incredible. i particularly like makan street - such delicious food in a great setting! the staff are friendly and welcoming and lovely. we also stayed at the Tanjung Aru, which was really gorgeous. they are both worth staying at, but if you are trying to decide between the two, stay at the Rasa Ria if you are more into nature and outdoor activities and want to be away from the world. stay at the Tanjung Aru if you want to be next to a really shady pool for a few days and want to head into town. but both equally lovely. regardless of which property you choose, you'll be happy and not regret your choice to stay with the shangri-la.

This hotel deserves 3 stars instead of 5 starts that Shagri'la would normally receive. The hotel had the following short-comings: -Overall impression of the hotel: cheap and outdated -Really dated interior and bathrooms -The bed is below Shagri'la quality -The rooms in Garden Wing still uses CRT TVs (that's old) -Food and beverages (including cocktails and beers) were one of the worst I had in all restaurants that we have tried (the cafe, japanese, outdoor buffet and in-room dining) -This is a family-oriented resort (kids kids kids with almost no single, couple or young crowds - most of the activities and events are family oriented) -Due to sand-flies, tanning or resting on the beach is not an option (the reason you will find all guests tanning on the grass or pool side) -Everytime we made housekeeping or room-service requests, the hotel staffs will forget to bring one or two items -Check-out process was uncomfortable due to long wait by the counter (funny because check-in is done at the lounge table to make guest feel more comfortable) What was good about the hotel: -mmmm....not sure....but if you are traveling with kids as a large family, I guess this hotel cater better since most food are tasteless but with ample choices (kids don't care anyway) and activities geared towards families... I would never return to this hotel and I certainly do not recommend to anyone traveling alone, with friends or as couple since this place is filled with family crowds with family oriented activities (meaning no night-time events and good luck getting drinks after 10:30PM)

It is a fantastic resort. Not no many people, great relaxation, good food. However the rooms need an upgrade.

The service was generally very good at the Rasa Ria. The girl at check-in, Olga, was extremely helpful and friendly. She knew our kids were tired as it was past their bedtime, and suggested we do the check-in paperwork in our room so the kids could wash up for bed. The hotel grounds and beach are expansive and it did not feel overcrowded nor claustrophobic even though it occupancy was full. The orang utan reserve in the hotel was a big treat for the family. The Old wing needs to be renovated though-the rooms are old, tired and not very clean in general. One thing which irked me was that the new wing has a pool which is not accessible to the old wing occupants, but the new wing residents can use the old wing facilities. Why have both wings on the same grounds if they have such discriminatory practises?

We stayed in the Ocean Wing Premier room and it was above and beyond any expectation that I had. The room was extremely spacious and the warm bath with rose petals was AMAZING. Add to that a complete view of the entire private beach and the question remains....why would you leave the room? Well, if you do I can highly recommend the buffet in the Coffee Terrace....the most amazing dessert selection I have seen. Also, a visit to the nature sanctuary is a must. This is definitely one to return to!!

Although the location is a distance from town (about an hour's drive), it's a wonderful resort and certainly worth the trouble of travelling there. The hotel offers scenic lush green view from the nature reserve as well as a beautiful generous stretch of beach. The hotel room is spacious with a sunken lounge and the provision of the day bed was comfortable for the third person. The staff from the front desk, restaurant and even the recreation club along the beach front were always attentive to our request. Excellent service indeed! My family enjoyed our holiday tremendously and would love to plan future holiday stay in Shangrila.

We stayed here for our honeymoon so decided to come back from a couple of nights whilst in Borneo. It is beautifully presented, gorgeous beach and the highlight of the orangutans - we saw 2 this time and it was fab! Coast restaurant is very good too as well as the Sampan beach bar. Prices are a little steeper than we remember though!

Nice hotel rooms, quite expensive but its worth it. Friendly and very helpful staffs. Food is great! Beach is not that nice, light brown sand, but nice swimming pool.

We were dissappointed with the room - musty smell and bathroom not clean on arrival - not good for a 5 star. Location not great at all being about 40 mins from town. We stayed in the sister hotel of Tanjung Aru at the end of our trip - it was fantastic. Perfectly clean, lovely pools - much better then in the Rasa Ria. Location is perfect being 5 mins from town with own jetty to get out to islands etc. You are much less isolated and free to explore Kota Kinabalu.

可能是我的期望值太高了，比起兰卡威的五星级酒店，这家只能说还可以吧。游泳池不算特别大，沙滩不算是最美。 酒店的设施更适合带小朋友的家庭。 还有就是中国人挺多。。

広いプライベートビーチが目の前に広がっており、プールもいくつもあってよかった。オラウータン保護区にも近く、キナバル公園ツアーにも近かったので便利でした。 日本人スタッフも常駐しているので、いろいろなことに日本語で対応してもらえるので安心！ ホテル内でたくさんのオプショナルツアーを企画しているのでいろいろなものに参加して楽しめると思う。

家族で3泊滞在しました。街までは遠いですが、プール、ビーチ、オランウータン見学ツアー、ゴルフと飽きる事なく過ごす事ができました。

Vi havde 3 dejlige dage på Shangri-La Rasa Ria, inden vi skulle videre på vores Borneo rundrejse. Super betjening, lækkert værelse, masser af god mad at vælge i mellem. Fremfor alt dejlig afslapning

Hôtel très agréable qui bénéficie surtout d'un emplacement exceptionnel, entre plage superbe et forêt. Depuis la plage, le Mont Kinabalu au loin entre les 2 ailes de l'hôtel !
