dining room staff and food were excellent,. Room view was out onto to adjoining room balcony and bathroom was a little smelly, for the price expected a nicer room. The lounge and gardens were beautiful.

I have stayed at a number of highly ranked hotels in my travels. However, The American Colony Hotel ranks on the top of my list with a place to stay that has flavor and charm. Hotel personnel are courteous, food is elegantly displayed, and the surroundings are choice. Just a quick 20 minute walk from old Jerusalem.

The hotel has a real colonial vibe with a lot of history. It is really charming but in need of a little touch up. The rooms could be a little cleaner and the sheets changed more often. However, I enjoyed the variety of guests staying at the hotel and met some great people. I was able to organize some trips to the Old City and by the end of my stay, I had made some new friends. I would stay there again but maybe in one of the newer remodeled rooms. Breakfast was wonderful.

Even though the American Colony does deliver on its colonial old world charm, the rooms are in need of some doing up and the service needs to step up a notch. This is indeed a good choice for your stay in Jerusalem, but if you expect a Leading Hotel of the World, you're bound to be disappointed.

Nice hotel with good atmosphere, with a beautiful garden and pool area. The grade was a bit lower due to that the bread and pastries in the breakfast buffe where not fresh,. there was also staff who were wacum cleaning outside our room at 7.30 in the morning, very disturbing. The total impression is not a 5 star hotel rather 4 star.

Beautiful courtyard and great interior, helpful staff and good sized rooms.

One of the oldeast-one of the best-make sure you book 'the old rooms in the old hotel'(there are four buildings) This might cost more but...

I stayed at the hotel for 3 days on my own, and though the rooms are pricey, they are absolutely stunning and extremely comfortable. The bed is so comfortable you don't ever want to get up! And the breakfast is huge and very tasty. Good location, a ten minute walk to the Old City. Delicious food, amazing garden and a very nice pool. Wifi is free and the overall atmosphere is very pleasant, especially in the garden. A hotel I would definitely recommend to others and come back to myself!

The American Colony Hotel has it all. Its buildings, rooms, restaurants and pool are beautifully and carefully designed with a lot of attention to small details, beautiful art and furniture. The rooms are spacious, clean and have the most comfortable beds! The food is absolutely delicious and you can spend hours with a book in the beautiful outdoor café/restaurant. It's a place where you feel spoiled and pampered but at the same time at home. A very unique atmosphere and a place you will definitely be coming back to!

I cannot say enough about the incredible stay that I had at the American Colony. The service was unbelievable. As an example, I discovered that I had forgotten to pack the charger for my cell phone. When I inquired at the main desk where I might go to purchase one, they asked to see the phone. They had a bunch of various chargers and offered to charge the phone for me and then deliver it to my room fully charged! That's service.

Although I love this hotel, I chose it because it was once a palace, and, too, because it's only a nine minute walk to the Damascus Gate. That said, I was led to believe that my room was almost twice what I was getting it for. Then I redeived a confirmation that my price was for only one guest (I had telephoned hotels.com). I protested, told the represntative that I didn't want the room if I had to pay extra for my partner. That's when I was put on hold after being told that the represntative would call The American Colony to see if I could get the rate for two people. "Yes," was the answer a received minutes later. So I booked it. However, when I checked in, I was told I 'd have to pay an extra fee per day for the second person. Also, when I went to my room, I found that the rate for the room, as listed on a sheet on the wardrobe door, was what I had 'bargained' for! Fortunately, the General Manager, a classy exec, waived the extra charge. The food and the ambience was spectacular. Service couldn't have been better. Since I had a rental car, parking was sometimes difficult. Still, the hotel is deinitely five star!

This is an amazing place with perfect location attentive and friendly staff. It is quite,with heart warming history and character. An island within the city. Will stay here again!

The American Colony is a nice hotel with a big amount of history and interesting surroundings (10 minutes walk from the Old City). But to pay big $$$ for one night at this hotel it is some kind of crazy considering the options you have. Frankly, I would rather stay in a hotel in Bethlehem, Palestine, that would be 50% cheaper, better customer service and 10 minutes by car to Jerusalem.

My wife and I stayed here during our very first visit to Jerusalem, in the off season (first week in February). Consequently, the hotel was relatively empty and a good value despite the (successful) attempt at check-in by front desk staff to persuade us to upgrade to a better room; the upgraded room was still a good value and extremely spacious and atmospheric, furnished with antique middle eastern pieces, rugs, tile floor, etc.. The standard room looked like it would have been fine also, just not as big. The hotel is a former Pasha's estate that has long been a hangout for diplomats, movie stars, and other Illuminati, as documented in a ledger displayed in the lobby. This hotel is special and part of history, not a sanitized, streamlined, super-modern but bland luxury tower. The buffet breakfast was excellent; the restaurants served great food and the service was exceptional. Not much in the way of other places to eat outside of the hotel that were close by. The hotel is in a gated enclave not located in the most modern part of Jerusalem, but walking to the old city (about 15 minutes south of the hotel) seemed safe and relatively convenient. We walked to the sites in west Jerusalem as well (Israel Museum, Yad Vashem) but these were lengthy treks and most tourists would probably rather take a taxi. Overall, a memorable experience and we would stay here again.

This hotel was everything it said it would be! The staff were friendly and helpful and always available. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. I appreciated the variety of places to relax and enjoy a drink, light snack or a meal. The garden areas were lovely, even in February! I was very impressed with the gardening staff after a storm that blew threw the area; the entire hotel was cleaned, inside and out, within hours; no one would have known there had been any disruption. My only complaint was the street noise I experienced my first night (I was originally in the Palm House); the manager was very quick to offer me another room in the main building, where I never had another complaint. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will most definately return myself!

The American Colony is one of my favorite hotels in the world, and I have stayed there every year for years. The lobby, restaurant and bar and just fantastic, and I like that the neighborhood is full of bustling activity. But this time it really seemed like the hotel is beginning to fade. First, the rooms are just awful. That has been a problem since 1975, the last they were updated, but the service and beauty of the hotel have always made up for it. But what somehow what used to be quaint outdatedness has become simply old. The beds are pretty uncomfortable and the bathrooms straight out of pre-1989 Eastern Europe. My toilet would not flush half the time. There's no A/C. If the room gets hot you have no recourse but to open a window which can be loud if you're in a street-facing room, and very, VERY loud if you're in a street facing room that is next to the automotive repair/audio installation shop that is across the street from the hotel. Maintenance could also use a little pepping up. For example, when I first used the shower the showerhead popped of spraying water everywhere. It needed a plumber to fix it. But during four nights I stayed there a plumber never arrived and I was stuck using the bath instead of the shower. Food is still good in the restaurant, especially if you need a break from shawarma and falafel. Ask for a room in the main hotel building

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the American Colony. It was our first trip to Jerusalem and were looking for a base in which we would feel comfortable. The hotel certainly provided that. The wonderful breakfast buffet served in the beautiful garden courtyard was the perfect moment to plan the day ahead: the experience will remain an integral part of our memories of the city. The only drawback is the location: the hotel is about 15 mins walk to the Damascus Gate, along the Nablus Road, which those new to Jerusalem might find threatening the first time (although there appears to be no reason to do so in hindsight). There is no public transport, but taxis are always available at the hotel. They are not expensive, and the Palestinian drivers can be a great source of local knowledge.

Our stay at the American Colony was very nice. We arrived while one of the final games for the World Cup was in progress, the staff quickly checked us in and showed to to the closest tv so that we could watch the end of the match. The rooms are well appointed, the location is quite convenient to the Old City, the outdoor bar is delightful and the breakfast buffet has a good variety and it was lovely to have the option to sit outside in the morning. A day after checking out, we realized that my husband left his sport coat in the closet, we called the hotel and they indeed had the coat and we picked it up the following day. They were very welcoming and accommodating - I would recoomend this hotel and absolutely stay there again.

The hotel and grounds are breathtaking! The first night we stayed in the least expensive room...and it was very large with wonderful view of gardens below. The next 2 nights we were supposed to stay in one of the historic Pasha rooms, but they upgraded us to a suite---which was HUGE with a balcony and bathroom with a seperate tub and shower. (I would have liked to see the other room --just to know what it was like.) The breakfasts were great with many choices...and eating in the courtyard was quite refreshing! Everyone was very helpful --the desk staff, the bell boys, the wait staff!! Our only problem was with the taxis outside...they will overcharge you -- so decide on a price before taking one. None of them used their meters, even if we asked! And we found that they did not know all the areas very well...if you are visiting friends, make sure you have directions. (This is not just an "American Colony Taxi" issue...we found it the same way throughout the country!) We did walk to the old city down Nablus Road through the Damascus Gate...not the prettiest walk, but we felt safe, and were able to buy water more cheapbefore we got into the city. I enjoyed the hotel and would recommend it to other travelers.

unforgettable

It was a nice hotel with a lot of history. The outside areas were great and the rooms fine. Close enough to the old city to walk, however you must go through East Jerusalem. It is a bit far of a walk from Ben Yahuda, Jaffa Road, Mamilla, etc. I'd stay here again.

Un service de grande qualité, une atmosphère délicieuse et authentique dans une demeure historique: nous avons prolongé notre séjour et y retournerons sans hésitation.Un souvenir marquant dans notre passage par cette ville berceau de tant de cultures et de croyances.Mention spéciale pour le bar.

Die ambiente ist sensationell! bedienung ebenfalls! die zimmer sind etwas alt... aber wir haben einen upgrade gemacht zu einer (teuren..) suite. die war top! restaurants sind ebenfalls top (v.a. die brasserie). auch die bar ist sehr angenehm und speziell.

The green courtyard and the intelligent architecture of the Arab mansion from 1800 something, which keep the rooms at a moderate temperature, and the privacy makes this hotel my favorite. Both suitable for business, party and a romantic getaway.

American Colony er meget charmerende, og hotellets historie rækker tilbage til 1865 (dog ikke som hotel). Beliggenheden på grænsen mellem Vest- og Øst-Jerusalem er god, og man kan gå til Damaskus-porten på 10 minutter. Hvis man er interesseret i håndmalet armensk keramik, ligger den bedste butik i Jerusalem kun 5 minutters gang fra hotellet på Nablus Road nr. 14. Butikken har ligget der siden 1922, og drives af familien Basilian, som har renoveret fliserne på Klippemoskéen. Hotellet er hyggeligt, og personalet venligt. Jeg har dog boet på hoteller, hvor rengøringsstandarden var højere. Håndklæder og sengetøj var rent, men slidt. Der er ikke kaffe/te udstyr på værelset. Fitness center og pool er af god standard, og morgenmadsbuffeten udmærket. Der er en glimrende souvenirbutik og boghandel på hotellets område, samt en hyggelig kælderbar. Kvarteret er roligt, men dog lejlighedsvis med en smule trafikstøj.

Eit spesielt hotell i ein spesiell by, Aust Jerusalem. Gamle historiske bygg med særpreg, kombinert med det ein kunne ønske av komfort og godt miljø. God representant for palestinsk gjestfrihet!

９０年代からのお付き合いで、久しぶりに宿泊しましたが、良い伝統は残っていました。歴史あるホテルで、昔から多くの有名人が宿泊しています。 エルサレム旧市街にも近く、観光にも最適です。食事がとてもおいしい。朝食付きで宿泊するのをお勧めします。この国では、めったに食べられない、豚肉のソーセージや、ハム、ベーコンもおいしいのが出てきます。これも有名なバーが営業していなかったのはちょっと残念。小さいけれど、書店があり、この地を知るのに必要な英語の本がそろっています。

An Oasis in a city that ocacionally makes you long for a place to rest. The service is professional. The atmosphaere is very good. The brakefast is a favorite

l'hôtel est situé dans un magnifique jardin mais un peu éloigné de la vieille cité. Personnel accueillant et efficace. Belle chambre sur un jardin fleuri. Restaurant agréable dans un beau patio.

Eine echte Oase im hektischen Jerusalem. Nur zu empfehlen. Schöner Innenhof, prima Pool, Restaurants sind etwas überteuert, super Personal, sehr hilfsbereit, Trip nach Bethlehem kann vom Hotel aus organisiert werden
