I loved that staff and the ambiance of the Hotel. ...the vintage furniture and the look was amazing. I will definitely be coming back

The hotel was once a beautiful and classic one but today it's still classic but a little worn. The shower was not working properly, toilet seat had paint worn off as did some of the furniture, the bed was very soft and uncomfortable. Overall the place seemed very old and not maintained. But I still I liked the small quaintness of the hotel. And the staff was wonderful. I would stay there again but I hope management will spend some money maintaining it as it deserves to be.

The hotel is beautiful but it really needs some cleaning up, the driveway needs to be pressure washed and have more curb appeal, the rooms need repairs (doors don't close or lock), new carpet or tile and repainting. Service was okay but very shorthanded. Coffee in lobby is $1.00, should be free for guests. Bar in hotel is nice but bartenders have zero customer service. Very disappointed since we live in San Antonio and this is what tourist leave SA thinking of our city.

HORRIBLE STAY WITH FILTHY AMENITIES. TOILET BARELY FLUSHED AND HAD DOOR THAT CLOSES ONLY HALFWAY BEFORE GETTING STUCK DUE TO ALIGNMENT ISSUE. TORN WALLPAPER THAT WAS PUT TOGETHER WITH TAPE. CARPET HAD NASTY STAINS. IT IS RATED 4 STARS, BUT FAR FROM IT. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK HERE EXPECTING A 4 STAR HOTEL.

Everyone was very friendly and accomodating. We asked for a possible upgrade and was given one!!

We were making our way from Florida to California and stopping at cool cities along the way. I had mistakenly thought this hotel was a part of The Fairmont Hotels and Resort Group, but unfortunately, this is just a one-off very old and poorly maintained hotel. Yes, it has history in New Orleans as it was moved off of the Riverwalk a long time ago and it was a huge endeavor to move it, but, I've stayed at plenty of historic hotels that offer clean carpet and decent lighting. When you walk into a room and immediately see stained (big time stains), the first thing you think is that the room is not clean. Plus, we could not see to get ready in the morning because the lighting was so poor. It would be good to have at least one spot in the room that had proper lighting. There are absolutely no amenities onsite including no vending machines. We wanted a bottle of water and were directed to walk two blocks to the Westin since it was closer than a convenient store. We ended up paying $5.00 per bottle for water. I have stayed at two other hotels in New Orleans and the Fairmount was a real disappointment in comparison.

We were very disappointed by this hotel, especially given the price we paid. It was old and dirty. It might have been something 50 years ago, but not now. It was the only place available near the Riverwalk during the Fiesta weekend. After staying here I am completely amazed that it scores so well by reviewers. The pictures do not represent the reality of this hotel. Look elsewhere.

I enjoyed the hospitality and comfort of the Farmount hotel. The Jr. Suite was very comfortable, and the location was perfect for walking to the convention center and exploring downtown.

I was extremely disappointed. I had hoped to stay and a lovely historic hotel. I found it run down, the rooms not clean or updated. Wish that Luke (the yellow lab mascot) was still alive. He might have made up for a for disappointing experience.

For $205 a night plus valet it was not worth the money. We stayed in room 115, and to say the least we were surprised at the condition of the room. The beige carpet had black stains all over it, there were screws sticking out of the wall, but the icing on the cake was the bathroom. The bathroom wallpaper was bleached near the toilet and peeling off the wall, there was a large vanity light missing on one side of the mirror, and my favorite part was the ugly black plunger next to the toilet. I needed ice to remove a stain from my dress and we had to go to the restaurant next door, we got lucky though because they let us have two free bottles of water when they are typically $3 a piece. The photos online were nothing like what we saw when we were there. Had I know I would have paid a little extra and stayed at a hotel directly on the riverwalk. If you just want an expensive bed to sleep in stay here, but if you want to feel like you are staying in a quality 4 star hotel skip this place.

The room was very classy and well kept. I would definitely stay here again.

I really liked the location close to everything. It is an old building had a lot of charm . Very clean and comfortable beds. Very close to boardwalk we walked to dinner.

This hotel is in a great location, right next to La Villita and across the street from Hemisfair park. The rooms walk the line between being "antique chic" and "just old", but I liked the layout. I had drapes leading into a little sitting area and a balcony beyond that looking out into the interior courtyard. I also liked that the "key" was an actual key. All in all it was a pretty nice room. The only sour spot during my trip was with the shower head in the bathroom. It had crusted over with lime, and I asked the staff at the front desk in the morning to have it either, sprayed with CLR or replaced. But when I returned that evening it was still the same. I was disappointed and upset about that, but the very nice young lady at the front desk (part of evening staff) came to my room personally and did everything she could to clean the shower head. Overall, I enjoyed my time.

Pros: location, romantic atmosphere (balcony, inner yard, furniture, decoration), very helpful staff. Cons: unexpected valet charge of $21 (although I parked the car myself on the hotel's lot), coffee(?) spots on carpet, lipstick on a glass. We did not care much for the cons, so for us it was a wonderful stay, but other people may be not so forgiving.

Hotel is located minutes from the river walk. It's a nice old/historic hotel so don't expect fancy lobby or rooms. Clean rooms and restrooms and the staff were friendly!

Save your money Not a four star hotel Ac worked very little and no hot water during my stay ...

This hotel was absolutely incredible! ! U loved everything from the moment I walked in! Staff were excellent, valet parked my car, wouldn't let me lift a finger to get any of my bags, walked me up to my room which was gorgeous! I felt like royalty there, room was designed so beautiful, bed was so luxurious I wished I could take it home with me! A+ for cleanliness & decor, had a balcony as well, the historical beauty of the entire hotel was magnificent & the restaurant & bar let me come down as they were closing to have a drink, great staff of people, would love to stay there again!!

Very nice older hotel from 1909. Great rooms very period, and in a nice area very close to riverwalk and the Alamo.

Well for starters check in was to be at 3. I was delayed arriving and arrived at 6. I was told then I had to wait because my room was not ready. So thirty minutes later and a bar tab to pay I checked in to my room. Elevator got stuck going up for about two minutes! Once I arrived to room it was somewhat clean. However upon entering the bathroom, they had not bothered to discard the previous guest soap and they left no new soap. Room was extremely hot so I turned down the ac. I left to go explore San Antonio and when I returned the room was still hot. I slept with balcony door open. I will not be returning to this hotel. Miserable night!

Hotel was in a great location and was very unique. Older and needing new carpet but otherwise wonderful. Will stay there again when in San Antonio.

Excellent location but the room smelled like mold. The wall paper was coming loose from the wall in the bathroom. All renovations appeared to be done by very poorly skilled tradesmen.

Great location, the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are older but they're also bigger and add to the ambiance of the historical part of town. I'll definitely stay here again.

Room 203. This was kind of like staying at your elderly grandmother's house. I am betting it was beautiful at an earlier time when the paint was not chipped, the wallpaper in the bathroom was not peeling, the walls were not gouged, the carpet was clean (even near the walls and in the corners), the toilet flushed and took care of the business the first time, etc. BUT - it was comfortable enough, clean enough, priced right, premium location, and a FANTASTIC front desk staff that gave directions and recommendations for local restaurants and transportation! Our room was fairly quiet (could hear the train whistle at night) and we had a small balcony with a courtyard view. The history of this hotel is magnificent. Would I stay here again? If the price remained significantly lower than other hotels in the area, yes. If the prices were within $20, maybe not.

enjoyed our stay the hotel needs some up keeping and some repair work that would enhance the experience.

Got in really late front desk clerk was very helpful. Took our bags up for us and since there was not a store open that late he got us drinks from employee lounge. Very large room as well.

I provided 4's for condition/maintenance and cleanliness because everything there is an antique! Can't expect it to have that "new car smell." Gorgeous hotel! Very friendly staff. Every room is different. Super cozy. Bed was very comfortable. I will be staying there every time I visit the city. Would recommend to anyone.

Could use updating, redecorating, and a thorough cleaning

The reviews from this and other sites are all over the map, and now I understand why: We arrived in San Antonio after 1 a.m. Lost (There is a North and South Alamo—something our GPS didn't quite understand), we called the hotel to get directions. "What is your name? Do you have a reservation? When did you make it? What is your name? (He asked multiple times.) Despite the clerk saying he didn’t know the area (we stopped police officers for directions), we arrived—only to have the clerk meet us outside the hotel with our room key—which he tried to thrust into my hand as I was still trying to get luggage out of the trunk. (Uh, how about asking for some ID?) ••• Some "senior" friends arrived much earlier. Anxious to see the sites around town, they asked where the Riverwalk was (a major attraction, literally across the street through a park), but the desk clerk shrugged his shoulders. ••• Yet, the weekend day staff was quite helpful and courteous. And strangely, two piles of local maps—including the Riverwalk—were available on the counter. ••• The hotel furnishings are a bit run down—beyond "shabby chic" (The rug in my room was well-worn with the edges a filthy black. Ick.), but the rooms are spacious—especially the suites—and “could be” charming. BOTTOM LINE: Would I stay there again? Probably not. For not much more money there are hotels with better amenities. Perhaps The Fairmont was once the "Jewel of San Antonio," but now it needs a good cleaning—and some staff training.

Greatly enjoyed staying at the Fairmount Hotel in San Antonio. It is in a great location within walking distance from everything in downtown San Antonio. Rooms were very cozy and the perfect size! Will definitely consider staying there again!

This hotel is really old and has no wifi.

Sleeping on the mattress was like sleeping on a hill. There was a significant slope. The hotel should flip their mattresses to avoid this problem. Bathroom could use a daily spray of bleach to avoid mold. It was great to be at a small hotel, but the staff should really pay attention to the cleanliness and appearance of the hotel, common areas and rooms.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the The Fairmount Hotel. Everyone was very friendly and the service was very good.

Our hotel was super conveinent to the convention center and very comfortable. My only comment is that there are restaurants nearby for dinner but nothing at the hotel or nearby for breakfast. The only thing is a coffee pot in the room. Doesn't cut it for me if I am going to stand up all day at a trade show. The hotel staff was extremely accomodating. I would definetly stay there and recommend it to others.

PROS: Great location, very friendly staff, clean for an older hotel (shower curtain could've been cleaner), comfy beds and quiet. CONS: Shower head made it very hard to rinse anything and it wasn't adjustable, expensive to park per night (not listed anywhere beforehand), and no type of continental breakfast
