Macdonald Holyrood Hotel - إدنبرة

The hotel was very comfortable with good size bedrooms and ensuites. It was well placed for the "Hop on/Hop-off' bus and Holyrod Castle, but it was difficult to locate, as the street runs under South Bridge and not off it, as is indicated on Google. The staff, conceirge and restuarant staff in particular, were very accommodating, with only one female receptionist (on arrival) being rude. Would recommend it.

Lovely hotel, good location staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was lovely, large comfortable with nice hot showers. Only criticism was the mattress on the bed, I don't normally have a problem with sleeping in different beds however the mattress was old and lumpy you could feel the springs when led down. Hotel would definitely benefit from renewing them !

Hotel location is excellent for all the highlights of the city. The service was good and the reception staff helpful.

Macdonald Holyrood Hotel was exactly what it promised to be: it was a four-star hotel with clean rooms, comfortable beds (with extra pillow!), good TV, relatively quiet surroundings and room and good (but expensive) breakfast. The best thing was the very helpful and friendly staff! There was only one minus: it was a bit chilly in the room and using the controls did not help.

This hotel is great, just behind the Scottish Parliament, a stones throw from the Royal mile and away from any traffic or noise. I got a fantastic deal for this hotel so I feel like I can't really justify having a gripe about it. The room was huge (HUGE!), great bathroom, lovely powerful shower. Unfortunately the bed was so soft that I tossed and turned all night and woke up with an aching back both nights. At the end of the day, the firmness of a bed is personal preference and I felt that I couldn't complain on this count. This is really the only bad thing I could possibly say as everything else was top notch. It wouldn't put me off going back but I would perhaps ask for a room with a newer mattress if one was available.

First stayed here five years ago and may have expected more. It appears a little tired but is good value for the special rate we secured. Breakfast was disappointing in that it was served with half a mushroom and fried bread dripping in fat. Would have preferred a buffet to see the food first. Needless to say we ate out on subsequent mornings. location is great as it is in a quiet area but easily walkable to the main attractions.

Nice hotel, excellent location , friendly staff , charming concierge, bed was a little worn and shower leaked , but extremely clean which I appreciated. I will likely be comig back to scotland and will likely stay there.

We use this hotel regularly because we have business nearby. We have never been let down by the service and welcome received by the staff.

This hotel was fantastic. The room was very comfortable and the staff could do no more. They made you feel very welcome and nothing was to much trouble. I would reccomend this and will hopefully return soon.

Every single service besides sleeping seemed to have a service charge. The charge for a 40 second local call was laughable. Good location, room was fine.

Great hotel with friendly staff. Location a little out of the way, but close to lots of restaurants and pubs. About a 15 minute walk to Waverley train station. The breakfast was great but at £17.50 you need to get your monies worth. The drinks are a little pricey. The room was a nice size and comfortable and the bathroom was spacious, clean and grand. Would stay again and recommend to others.

The overall stay at the hotel was good, it looks good, is clean and comfortable and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The cost of the valet parking is a bit on an issue - although it is quick and convenient Breakfast was a disappointment for the cost !!

Whilst the staff were very friendly, there were a number of things that were poor for a four star hotel. The state of the spa was one. I was charged two pounds more for the same wine on second night. Breakfast was not included and when booking online it failed to mention that I had to pay twenty pounds parking per night!!!! The surrounding area is very noisy at night too. My shower was freezing cold on second day.

Hotel is lovely, Staff were good. With the room, certainly not value for money. I don't think I would choose this hotel again. I have stayed in nicer for cheaper.

Everything was fine with this hotel. The only minus could be that the partition walls seem quite thin.

A luxurious hotel with large, comfortable rooms that is well worth the few extra dollars / nightly rate. Location at the end of Old Town in the quiet middle of all nearby attractions, especially the Holyrood Palace & the scenic cliffs. Only drawback - parking is expensive so book online in advance and save $15/night.

Very comfortable medium size hotel. Very well located far enough of the crowd from down town. At 7mn walking from main touristic areas.

I stayed at the Macdonald Holyrood Hotel in late August, when several festivals were going on and Edinburgh was full of tourists. I appreciated the fact that it was away from the crowds in a fairly quiet area near the Scottish Parliament. The hotel was one of the most beautiful (if pricey) hotels I've ever stayed in, and the service was exemplary. The concierage was especially helpful. I arrived in town without a ticket to the Military Tattoo (which was sold out), and he somehow obtained a ticket for me the same day. The waiters in the hotel restaurant were also very attentive and courteous. They couldn't do enough for you. The room was very quiet and peaceful, a real plus after experiencing the huge noisy crowds at the Fringe. On three occasions I needed a taxi, and they called one right away. I can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

Large room and bath room, very nice stay. Only gripe is wedding reception - music was loud and it went on until 12:30am. Location is very good too.

Lovely hotel, very clean and bright, close to Royal Mile. Room was clean and large, very comfortable beds. Pool and sauna relaxing. Didn't have any meals here, but close to Tesco express for croissants on a morning ! Would definitely stay again.

Great service from the the moment we walked in On our 2nd night there was a wedding going on. We were on the 2nd floor and above the party - the noise was awful, it felt like we were at the wedding itself. We spoke to Adam, the deputy manager, and he immediately said theyd move us to a suite on the 6th floor. This was 10.30pm but they were aware that a lot of the wedding party were staying on our floor and would make a lot of noise on their return. The location is almost in front of the Scottish Parliament - although we'd not realised it was also in front of a large, ugly council estate too. However, everything else more than made up for this and we had a great time. Thoroughly recommended.

Despite a few somewhat tired-looking items in the room, this was a very nice value hotel. Excellent staff and location.

At the far end of the main street, away from the castle but close to Hollyroad Palace & Parliament. Inside the hotel was a bit worn but quiet, fairly spacious & comfortable. Staff was helpful, transportation convenient, never tried their restaurant.

This was my first trip abroad and I am so happy to say that the hotel was absolutely perfect. The location was close enough to walk everywhere but not congested. Good pubs and restaurants. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful! My daughter and I were very comfortable.

We enjoyed a lovely three night stay from 17th March. The hotel is at the Holyrood Palace end of the Royal mile (just off the actual mile), so a very short walk to the palace and the scottish parliament. Also, very near is Canongate Kirk, where Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall will be wed later this year. Not far to walk to start your ascent to Arthur's seat - if that's your thing. My only gripes would be the very firm bed, which wasn't as comfortable as it could have been and the TV could do with replacing with a flat screen that isn't below the level of the bed. The restaurant in the hotel we only used once and for dinner, was very good

We had a lovely four night stay in clean room with extremely comfy beds. Spa and gym facilities were a lovely added bonus. Small walk from all the local sites but far enough away that we were not disturbed by the late night revellers or early morning tourists. Have never slept so well in a hotel before.

The MacDonald is a clean and comfortable lodging for a couple of nights; is situated in a very good location -- one block from a major tourist attraction, but is off on a side street away from the fray of the tourist hotels. Room was surprisingly large (for UK) and very clean, bathroom large and clean with working air conditioning as Americans expect it (real air, not just a fan). Only 5 minutes walk to everything interesting. Staff were cheerful and very helpful. The only minor complaints were that they have a relatively old fashion (and tiny) television in each room, we got a wake up call that was not requested, the restaurant was pricey for what it offered and the food of mixed quality, and the mattress on the bed was a bit lumpy. All tolerable given the good location, short stay (3 nights), and other alternatives for dining.

This hotel was in an excellent location, especially for dynamic earth which was just across the road. Staff were friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. There was no jacuzzi in the leisure facilities which would have been good.

arrived late, room not ready, smell of smoke in bedroom, shower changed temp hot to scalding. Couldn't view antique telly from bed!

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the hotel was great for a one night stay, very centrally located and fab quality.

After scanning various websites for a good value quality hotel I decided upon the MacDonald Holyrood because of its excellent position at the foot of the Royal Mile and its close proximity to Arthurs Seat amongst other attractions. Now I'm not the suited and booted type, but like to think of myself as pretty presentable, so the snobbish welcome I received after a 6 hour drive from Birmingham was most unwelcome. The hotel and its facilities are good enough, but the problems I encountered were as follows: Checked online for parking charges when making my booking, which I read at £10 per night (potentially an error on my part). On check in I was told parking had never been £10, but always £20 so I reluctantly swallowed that bitter pill. However on checkout I was presented with a bill for £25 per night BECAUSE I HAD BOOKED A SPACE IN ADVANCE!!! When booking the space I was not told at any time about this additional charge. Spent part of an afternoon in the Health Club and my partner and I were given a filthy look when we each took a COMPLIMENTARY towel to use. Facilities were good, but we were again made to feel like second class citizens on what was our first weekend away together. These may seem like petty incidents, but they went a long way towards spoiling my stay in Edinburgh. The hotel really needs to look at its customer service in my opinion.

Hotellets faciliteter var gode og servicen var perfekt. Dog var hotellet lettere nedslidt især ved svimming pool området. Placeringen er perfekt, hvis man gerne vil bo tæt på byen med samtidig vil snuse til det lokale. Det ligger placeret ved det skotske parlament, som ligger op af smukke bjerge og i et område med lokale arbejdspladser.

Et minutt fra hovedgaten royal mile. Nabo til parlamentet, utsikt og tre minutters gange fra "highlands" med flotte turstier og rett og slett en topp opplevelse. Trivelig rolig område og helt fantastisk god service på hotellet. Her skal vi bo igjen!

El hotel es perfecto para una escapada urbana ya que se encuentra a sólo 15 min. andando del centro de Edimburgo así como de sus principales atracciones turísticas. La relación calidad-precio es excelente. Habitación limpia, cómoda y con todos los servicios básicos. El personal encantador, aunque eso en Escocia es lo normal. Lo recomendaría, sin duda.
