Very nice hotel in the centre. nice staff and clean rooms.

Perfect location in the middle of it all, walking distance from train station, old city, new city. Out room was pretty small and not much light, but it was on the less expensive end if the rooms in the hotel. Breakfast is a buffet, eggs, brownies, sausages, etc, cereals, juice. At night the bar is open with a wide selection of scotch and a knowledgable bartender. Polite and helpful staff.

Reception Staff are not friendly or helpful . the hotel is in the city centre ,therefore it is very noisy.

Rooms very comfortable and spacious: bar and lounge also good. However, breakfast rather basic and expensive for what you get. Overall the staff are very friendly and are anxious to please. An excellent location for visiting Edinburgh City Centre. Close to the National Portrait Gallery (definitely worth a vist), the National Gallery and National Museum. Also extremely well-placed for Waverley Station and Airlink Bus Service. Excellent value for money.

we could not be put up in the hotel but were directed to the holyrood apartments which filled all the boxes above.It was like a home from home handy for all the amenities .I will drfinately book i n there again and in facy hope to book in the end of September for at least 2/3 nites

Hotel was small but comfortable, great location close to Waverly Bridge, up Cockburn Street (on which you can find great Indian-Nepalese restaurant Gurkha) to pedestrian walkway to castle and shops , friendly & helpful staff. Great value. Parking off-site, but discount given and just a short walk between parking garage and hotel. Would recommend.

will hotels stop charging for wi-fi its old hat move on

Along the main street, close to rail and bus station( short walk). Museum, shops and eats very close. Not to neglect Rose Street rounsd corner from hotel, a vehicle free street with eats and drinks at an arms length, plenty of shops and very idylic surrundings, lovely, lovely little street.

I liked this hotel. It was close to Old Town, easy access to everything, and was nice for an older hotel. The room was really warm though. We open the windows but there was a smell coming in from outside. They did provide us with a small fan that we had to repair, though. Breakfast was not that great. I have had better full English breakfasts at other hotels.

Overall it was a good value. Great location, clean and fairly basic. But no compaliants.

The hotel has an ambient atmosphere and is perfectly sited in the heart of Edinburgh.

This hotel is in a perfect location for us. The room was great as well. The only real complaint I have is that I was deceived about WIFI. All the advertisements specify that the Old Waverley has WIFI, however, they don't tell you that you have to pay for it. I was deceived. Other then that all is good. I did NOT pay for the WIFI and went to the department store next door and got WIFI for free.

This hotel is easy to get to by rail or from the airport by the Airlink bus service. A fine traditional hotel which has all the modern facilties of Wi-Fi etc. The rooms are tastefully updated and very comfortable. Service is good and food generally of a high standard. Ideal for business meeting and well linked to the Edinburgh business centre, the Old Waverly is a good central location for tourists

Found it difficult to get in door with large heavy suitcase and could not manage stairs on my own, but otherwise very good. Would recommend it.

The Good - Staff friendly, location great. The Bad - Hotel room very noisy, my partner thought it noisier than Bangkok. 1) The porthole windows don't fit the frames, and let traffic/construction noise in. 2) Water pumps running and buzzing all night long. 3) Paper thin walls. The shower on full was no more than a dribble, and the room was very small.

For business I stay in Edinburgh most weeks and tend to shop around-I have stayed in a lot of Edinburgh Hotels. My visit to OWH was not a happy one; noises from adjacent rooms;the lift;the stairwell;the hallway;traffic outside. The bed was the most uncomfortable I have slept in (i did see new beds arriving as I hastily exited in the morning). To complete my misery, my morning wake up call was 40 mins late. There are better hotels in this category that are also centrally located.

Hotel is very conveniently located for both new and old town. Did not have Breakfast or Evening Meal in hotel as there were hidden extras which made it quiet expensive. Hotel was very clean and we were happy with our two single rooms. Staff were friendly apart from one exception. Did not like the fact that 100 STL was kept as a deposit until we checked out as both rooms were prepaid several weeks before arrival. Would recommend this hotel though.

A really good hotel, although I was a bit disappointed to see my tiny window was facing dirty windows of another building about 5 feet away rather than more spacious landscape. Really good location to Royal Mile, Arthur's Seat, train station. Really nice and friendly staff, good whiskey at the bar! :) I still don't understand the exaggerated price of buffet cooked breakfast which was simply not worth having - you'll get at least half the price out in town if you're not in a hurry.

This was my first visit to Scotland and I was thrilled with the "old world" atmosphere of the hotel. There were some renovations going on so I was disappointed we could not sit in front of the fireplace, but the staff was friendly and the downtown location was convenient to transportation to the airport. I would love to go back and stay at this hotel.

went for breakfast first morning very poor did not go back food very cold some staff unpleasant tried dinner at night variety very poor could do with changing there menu for high tea and dinners would not recommend this hotel overall very disappointed would not stay again

The hotel allowed us to check in at 11:30 instead of 3 which is always a bonus! Surrounding area great. Bus line to airport is right across the street. We paid a little more for a room with a view and it was worth it. Hotel staff friendly. Wireless is not free and is a hit or miss. But a lot of the surrounding pubs have free wi-fi. Great place to stay and enjoy Scotland's city centre.

An ideally placed hotel within a couple of minutes walk from the waverley station. The location is also excellent for going anywhere in the city centre. The room was clean and well furnished the bathroom especially. The staff were polite and helpful. All in all a good hotel in a fabulous city. My only gripe was a fan under the room window which could have grown irritating if I had spent more time in the room.

Hotel fine. Location exceptionally fine. Food good. Unable to book in until 15.00 which is somewhat OTT, but are able to leave luggage before then.

I love this quirky hotel. The reception desk is on the 2nd floor so be prepared to climb a flight of stairs with your luggage. It is within walking distance of the train station, the best shopping in the city and the Royal Mile attractions. Staff is friendly and helpful. The room was plain but clean and bed comfortable.

The Old Waverley is ideally situated on Princes Street, just a few minutes from Waverley rail station and buses to/from the airport. You have easy access to shopping on Princes, Rose, and George Street, and a quick walk across the Waverley bridge will get you to the Royal Mile. The hotel was comfortable enough, although the room was a bit small, even for European standards. Everything we experienced in the hotel was perfectly clean, and the staff were quite friendly and helpful. The only drawback is the proximity to Princes and Rose streets, and late-night revelers can be heard on the streets below - nothing unusual for a weekend night in Edinburgh. We've been to Edinburgh many times, and the Old Waverley is certainly the most conveniently located hotel in which we've stayed. We would definitely stay there again.

Ideal Hotel for being in the centre of Edinburgh, lounge and bar looking onto Princess Street, which was very nice. Only problem with room was no window otherwise nice large room.

This hotel is the perfect place to stay for a short visit to Edinburgh. You get the airport bus to Waverley Bridge, this takes 30 mins, you can see the hotel just across the road from the bridge. It is so central and convenient for all Edinburgh's sights and highlights. The room was spotless and comfortable. From our window we could actually see the castle. Top marks.

The hotel had plenty of charm and was well maintained,I thought it was a perfect location near many attractions and train station a short five minute walk away. I had dinner in the bar area that overlooks Princess St. wonderful view from this spot. My only disappointment was that the mattress was too old.However I did observe mattresses were being replaced. Great location

We stayed for two nights. The staff were very helpful in every way in storing our bags and very polite. The room was ok. The noise from the street was terrible, however I would definitely stay here again.

As Americans, you're never sure how you're going to be treated. ALL the folks at the Waverley were wonderful, and the front-desk workers were exceptional, making us feel so comfortable and welcome. The room was more than adequate, and very clean. On top of all this is the fact that the location couldn't have been better. Highly recommended!!!!

As stated before, the central location couldn't be better - walking distance to the train station, airport bus drop-off, Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Calton Hill, etc. The hotel also had a lot of charm and FREE internet access. The bed was a little small (a full size versus queen, but our room was quite cozy, though not uncomfortable), and there are several sets of stairs to climb before reaching reception. The former was manageable, and the latter is something to keep in mind, especially if you're elderly and/or toting lots of luggage. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.
