Overall stay was very nice, very quiet

Hotel location was easy to get in and out of to see the surrounding sights

lovely location on the bay, but a fair distance from downtown San Diego, although we found that not to be a problem as we preferred the by area. Hotel itself is very pleasant with large rooms and nice pools. The Wave Bar restuarant is very very good and has nice views across the marina. You could easily spend a lot of your time here.

Spent just two days in S.D. and had never stayed at this Best Western before. We were very pleased with a quiet location in front of the harbor, a clean and comfortable room, and a large screen TV with great quality image. I was also pleased that they do not charge for parking as other hotels in San Diego do. I would definitely stay there again.

The staff is very friendly. The hotel is on the marina, so it is fun to watch boats come and go while dining in the restaurant (excellent clam chowder). Try to get a room that is not next to the outside wooden staircase because you will hear everyone's coversation as they tromp up or down. Also, there must not be any soundproofing between floors -- the person above us clomped around until 4 am.

I booked this based on other reviews and wasn't disappointed. We booked 2 Queens but got a King which wasn't a deal breaker and receptionist apologised profusely for not being able to supply our preference. The rooms all seemed to have parking directly outside (motel syle) which was great and the room was large with a fab shower cubicle, all marble which reminded me of the Westin Palace (Milan) but actually better! We had Microwave hidden away along with a fridge and coffee machine with decent coffee despite the powdered milk. The cleaning staff were thorough and good towels were provided in abundance around the pool. The pool overlooked the Marina which was lovely and the restuarant/bar sat alongside with indoor/outdoor seating. My only disappointment was we didnt stay longer and I would absolutely return!!

The Best Western Island Palms is GORGEOUS!!! The staff is was friendly, pleasant, and always smiling. They allowed us to check in 3 hours early :) The view on either side of the hotel is BREATHTAKING! The food is delicious, BEST breakfast!!! The price could not be beat! I will def be back to book in the future.

Had a wonderful time at the hotel. It ticked most boxes as we hadn't been to San Diego before and had three full days of sightseeing. The hotel is location is quiet and on the edge of the main town overlooking one of the marina areas. The airport shuttle works and there are two buses, one to the Old Town and the other direct to Downtown but ths is quite a walk (40 minutes). There is also a tourist bus which stops at all major attractions and you can get on and off at these but it is expensive ($36/person). we found the buses ran on time and the hotel can give directions. Warning that the cost of the ATM is expensive and if travelling from the UK inform your bank before travelling - I didn't and struggled get money out of any ATM's whilst there!! Also there are additional charges in the hotel for sharing an Entree between 2. Great place to go is happy hour in the Humphreys Backstage Live bar where they have live music most nights and half price food and drink between 5 & 7pm. We were lucky as there was a superb blues band on one night. Do your research to make sure it fits the bill. Can't fault the hotel as in a lovely location.

clean, friendly, quiet, great food

Everything is OK but swimmig pool. There 're two swimmin pool. But both of them didn't reach my expectation. But I like the fire place next the pool.

I enjoyed the pool area very much, the bar/lounge area could be larger- I found it very crowded and obviously hard for the wait staff to move around in. I also purpose that the fine dining area be closed off with frosted windows from the bar/lounge, those folks come in for a more refined eating experience not to see us finger food, beer slugging type cheering for our favorite teams on the television. Overall, it was a pleasant, calm, clean hotel and I will recommend highly to many.

Had a wonderful stay at Best Western Plus Island Palms and Marina. My kids enjoyed the pool despite of the cool weather. The service was great and the room was cleaned and supplies were replenished everyday. The location was also quiet and peaceful. We stayed at Casa Marina building and the room we got had a beautiful view of the marina. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is located in a very nice area - not in the downdotw, but in the quiet Marina in a very nice location.... Driving to the city is easy - I would say 10 minutes. Main disadvantage I had is that my room was w/o breakfast - if you add 40$ for family breakfast in one of the surranding places or in the hotel, it might be a bit expensive.... Anyway it is recommanded hotel to stay

My daughter and I traveled here for two days for a fun break. I upgraded to one of the Marina view suites, so that we could have separate bedrooms and a nice rest. While the staff was incredibly helpful with all of my inquiries and requests, I found that the hotel was fairly loud. It could have been that it was Spring Break and there were a lot of families with children, but I think it was the general construction of the buildings.

The picture on Internet made the room look bigger than it was in person. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. You had a dry cleaning service available which came in handy. I loved the Marina view. The security guard was helpful when I couldn't get the card to work. I wish your shuttle was available for later hours. Really enjoyed the stay.

This was one of 3 Best Western properties my wife and I stayed at on a short 5 day holiday. This property had the most uncomfortable room, even inmates get more room than this. For the price we really felt duped with this room especially compared to the BW in Encinita and in LA which were about 1/3 less in price, had twice the amenities and services.

Free parking, good restaurant, HOT jacuzzi, and good internet connection. Highly recommended!

this hotel was very nice. The view of the harbor was great. There was a park right across the street. It was very convenient. Easy driving to Old Town, the Cabrillo Monument and close to the airport. The food was delicious. I would definitely stay here again.

The microwave stove and refrigerator are handy when you travel with family. The harbor view is priceless at night. It also advised to walk along the coastline in the morning. The stores and restaurants near the island are economic for family trip.

Great location, friendly staff, room not that fancy but it satisfied my need. Love the marina view in the back of the hotel. Lovely sidewalk in front of the hotel. Wifi Internet is extremely fast.

The kids and I were there for two nights. The staff was so nice. We got a free room upgrade. We had a balcony and a view of the marina. I would reccommend it to family and friends.

Loved our stay - great location - excellent service - very nice staff - lovely view. Only complaint is there was only 1 smal mirror in bath only - no full length or mirror located outside of bath which would be nice to use when someone else is in shower. Our rooms were recently renovated so many the mirrors are on order or something. Otherswise - lovely stay.

Clean, quiet, and nice. Close to downtown. Staff was very friendly, professional, and helpful.

Can't beat the location and views. The hotel rooms were on the small side but staff and service were great, friendly and very accomodating. Nice little lounge with cheap drinks and appies at happy hour. Food in the restaurant was also very good.

Hotel is in great central location on Shelter Island. Close to everything. Good hotel for young kids. 2 pools and lots of grassy area and playground across the street for them to play and run around. Casa Marina bldg was great with view of marina from balcony on second floor. Very quiet location. Restaurant on site was good. Only downside was the energy efficient refrigerators in the room. One in room did not work. Had to get replaced by maintenance. But the one that worked wasn't too cold...only acted more like a cooler. Other than that, staff was very helpful and nice and cleaning staff did great job in the five nights we stayed there.

loved being on the bay

Clean, quiet, great location, good views, friendly staff. You don't need much more than that.

Beautiful location and wonderful views. The service by front desk went out of their. The restaurant was reasonable and the food was very good. The room was comfortable but there was not a bathtub which was fine with us; for some people this might not be to their liking. The weatherstripping around the doors was lacking which for much of the year would be acceptable but when we were there it was very wet and windy... Despite these negatives the location and vistas were worth it!!!

We hit San Diego in a storm in March - the room was quite cold due to the weather and unfortunately the roof leaked under the deluge - the room was very comfortable once we warmed it up and would be ideal under "normal" SoCal weather - we missed the weather so we didn't get to use the pool area, the deck sitting area or even walk on the oceanside trails - we will come back another time

Our room was in Casa Marina. A new addition to the hotel. It was lovely. Comfortable, modern, clean. Beds really comfortable:) As a family of 4 traveling with 2 small kids, loved having our own mini fridge & microwave so we could make our own breakfast, lunch, snacks. Location is beautiful. Unfortunately for us, our stay was rainy:( had a balcony with table & chairs. Would have loved to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine while watching the boats in the harbour. Swimming pools location beautiful as well. Along boardwalk with great view. Offered free bike use too. Nice park for kids across street on the other side of island. So much to see with Naval base across water, airport. We will be back. B/c location was beautiful. Close to attractions. Only did sea world (5min away) cause of storm. Los Americas outlet (30 min away) one of the better outlets. We wanted something by water, not in the city/ noise of hwy. Scenery to enjoy and this was perfect for our price. It was a shame about our weather. We did not eat at their restaurant. We had our rental car. B/C at this point in our holiday, we were done with eating out. So we brought Trader Joe's back to the room.

If you just get a regular room, this place is nothing to be excited about. The surrounding view is nice but the rooms itself is basic with poor space planning of the furniture.

It was an awesome hotel very clean and the customer service was great! I would defiately stay here again!

Great location great staff the best of the best

The location is great, and with all the plants you feel like in that island environment. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Would return.

The room had a nice, clean feel to it, we had a view of the ocean from our room, which was not expected. The staff was very friendly, all with the hotel, bar, and restaurant. A very memorable weekend. Will definitely book at this hotel again.

I loved this hotel! I haven't stayed at this type of Best Western before and was very pleased. The room was very clean and quiet. The grounds and location were very nice, and landscaping around my room was lush and tropical. I was very impressed by the courteous staff, from front desk to wait staff in the restaurant and bar, and even housekeeping staff were pleasant and helpful. Food and service at the restaurant is very good. I had been directed to a local landmark steak/seafood restaurant by several people, and thought the hotel's food was better. Their happy hour and happy hour food is also worth it, and the view of the Marina from the bar is lovely. The only suggestions: my shower head was an old water pike style and a wimpy way to start the day. The other suggestion is that they upgrade their laundry detergent. The scent on clean towels was very hospital /institutional sanitary smelling. Neither of those detracted from my stay and I will stay there again if ever back in San Diego!

Hard to beat the location being on a narrow strip with water on two sides but in the rooms themselves you can hear everything your neighbors are doing and if you are on the first floor and want to walk from your porch to your car you to walk through plants - done by many prior guests - AEB the stomped down ivy, etc. - so you'd think management would have caved and put in mini walkways but it hasn't happened. Breakfast was a good deal and price included coffee but other meals were typically overpriced.

We arrived a little late, the Staff was very nice but very professinal, we went to the room and were really surprised at how clean and nice it was . We were going to leave and go to dinner but elected to stay and eat dinner at the resturant on the grounds. It to was good . If I had any complaint at all it would be the bed, not bad but a little to soft for me. I would and will stay at this hotel again.

I would higly recommend. Hotel was better suited than expected.
