Best Western Plus Carriage Inn - سان فرانسيسكو

We read the reviews about the area before booking the hotel, and people are right that it is a sketchy place to stay. We are from NYC and we are used to homelessness and a little bit of roughness around the edges. However, we were incredibly surprised by the number of homeless/crazy/drug addicts in the area. We were told to walk on Market St when we travelled anywhere but Market St is also rough. The hotel itself is cute and the rooms are beautiful but be prepared to travel far to see the San Francisco that you are expecting. Make sure you ask for a quiet room away from the street. The front desk does provide ear plugs. If you stay below the top floor, you will hear the people above you. They also provide breakfast but the restaurant is a block away from the hotel.

My family and I had a great stay at the Best Western Carriage Inn. Parking is almost impossible in this city, I was grateful that this hotel offers an onsite, self park garage for about $25.00 a night. (which is not bad after you read the fine print on all the other hotel pages) I am very picky when it comes to my room's decor (I just can't stand a hotel with green carpet and brightly patterned bedding) Our room was modern, clean and very comfortable. The famous people and typewriter theme is very cute. The neighborhood is average. Not the prettiest, but the hotel definitely is (and very safe). I would make this hotel my go to hotel every time i visit San Francisco.

the hotel was fine except for internet does not work. Too many people logging on the hotel needs to address this. I have reports to send in but was not possible.!!!!

room and employees were courteous except for the valet parking person called room when I was a sleep wanting me to move vehicle across the street to make more room for other guest. Duh wasn't I a guest and deserved to park my car in the parking garage too. valet person needs better responsibilty than waking up guest for no reason.

Located in an area with a lot of social problems. Started of and continued with problems with keys. They mixed up constantly, and we had to change/reformat keys 4 times. The rooms had a really strange smell, and the kids complained. We had to extend our stay 1 day, and this resulted in problems when checking out. The lady at the front desk, and the hotel owner, used a long time to sort this out, and they constantly blamed this on other employees. Not very professional. One good thing: OK beds og quit rooms..

Stayed here with my teenage daughter who was auditioning with Lines Ballet just down the street. Very well located, within easy walking distance of the many stores and restaurants in Union Square. Very nicely decorated. Comfy bed and pillows, and nice bath towels. Very helpful personnel at the front desk. Stored our luggage for the day at no charge. We would definitely stay at the hotel again.

I would recommend this hotel for those having to conduct business downtown, an Stat and Federal building are within a mile. Hotel costs can be high in the Downtown area, and the Carriage House is well priced for a good hotel. The neighborhood is very rough, especially at night.

Very clean, comfortable and friendly staff at this hotel. Was a great place to stay, only negative feedback is that the hotel is situated in a less desirable part of town, although good proximity to the city!

This hotel was so great!-- very clean and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The decor was also really cool. There were a few places to eat within very close walking distance. The surrounding neighborhood was ok, but the 2 block walk to the bus and trolley line was a little unsettling and not exceptionally safe to do alone at night, particularly as a woman. Call a taxi. But overall, we had a wonderful time, and I would definitely stay here again.

A jewel nestled in the one of the less desirable areas of SF. The hotel has wonderful staff, lovely rooms and is perfectly situated for the BART/MUNI etc etc. The themed rooms are wonderful and the decor is perfect. I love the shower gel/shampoo/conditioner pumps in the shower. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would stay again!

Loved the character of each room. Decor and cleanliness were great. Decent location, much better than some of the Tenderloin hotels I have stayed in. Worth the money. Lowest parking rate in town. AC unit in room was noisy, but really it's my only complaint.

The room had obviously been recently redone and was SUPER cute!!! Very retro/SF/Chinatown... very clean... very nice. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were obviously new, the sheets were soft, and the comforter was light weight but warm! I was comfortable enough booking the room because of all the positive reviews, but don't let the complaints about the area get you down! It is a very comparable area to many major cities. There were a few homeless people, but nothing to get our dander up. We never felt unsafe. The only two small complaints we had are: #1 - The towels were paper thin, old, stained, and there were no washcloths. #2 - We could hear the people in the room above us the entire time they were in their room... if they moved, we heard it. Next time I'll remember to ask for a room on the top floor...

We came for 2 night games and found the Carriage Best Western to be the quietest SF hotel we have ever stay in. Aside from the sidewalk sleeper outside our window, we loved the hotel. It is close to the street cars, bus, the muni and the Cable Cars. We even walked one night to the game, so it is doable for ole folks! No breakfast, but tastey coffee and sweet rolls were available, a bit pricey for us, yes, we would stay again!

Very clean and nice room--all staff very nice--great location in regard to easy walk to public transportation and also to sites if you enjoy walking. Just a couple of blocks away is not the best place to be wandering alone at night. Looks like drug deals going on just a few blocks away. But I was told by friends that that's true in many areas of the city. Feel bad for the many homeless lying about. New York City is in much better shape in this regard.

The room was clean and the hotel is in a decent location located close to a restaurant. Parking was always available in the garage which was convenient. Keep in mind parking in SF is expensive so you may want to call them to confirm the daily parking rate. One really cool feature of the Hotel is that each room is named after a famous person. We stayed in "Cheech Marin". The name is right on the door and there are pictures of the person in the room. The hotel also has a neat decor. There was an old typewriter in the room. The wallpaper in the hallways had a bit of a "Shining" feel to it but was not so creepy as to make me afraid.

Good: 1 block from BART Civic Center station. Free Internet access in lobby w/ printer Nice theme Complimentary pastry & coffee/tea for breakfast. Felt secure for area (key required for elevator use) Blackout curtains blocked the giant neon sign next door. Bad: It was a convenient location, but not the best neighborhood.This is to be expected of practically any big city. No Comedy Central on cable. Spotty Wi-Fi. Thin walls/floors. I had to call the front desk a couple of times because it sounded like the people above me were running laps.

The Carriage Inn is located just far enough away from Union Square to avoid the noise late at night, but not so far away that it is inconvenient for shopping or looking around. The hotel is very high quality with comfortable furnishings. Have stayed there before. Will stay there again!

Nothing bad to say, Clean and reasonably priced- for SF. Was told it was a 10 minute walk to ATT Park, it was closer to 40 minutes. Would stay again if closer hotels were unavailable or significantly higher in price.

The hotel is small and in an older downtown location. But don't let that get in the way of comparing the quality and comfort of the rooms with the relatively low cost stay. Sure, the breakfast is limited and restaurant is across the street. Sure, if you drive a truck or SUV you'll be make a 5-point turn to get to the underground parking. Sure, if you have zero street sense you might feel uncomfortable walking outside at night. But the room rates are extremely reasonable. The location is in close proximity to several attractions. The beds are super comfortable. The rooms are spacious. The staff I met were all very friendly. One front desk clerk I had not met greeted me by name when I told him my room number. That is a testament to the pride of ownership that these employees all seem to share. I'll definitely be back at this hotel. For the money, you can't beat a great night's sleep, easy parking, and central location. Thank you!

Could have had black tea in the room as well as the coffee and green tea. Teas used were not replaced each day. Othewise it was the perfect place for ou needs.

This hotel may be reasonably priced but it is in a questionable neighborhood. I wish I had paid attention to the other reviews I read. When I checked in I was not told of any of the ammenities. The restaurant and lounge are across the street in the Americanna BW. I went there one night and waited for 10 minutes. Bartender wasn't busy and a server looked at me 3 times. I never was waited on and I left. The couch and chairs in my room were very uncomfortable. The room seemed clean enough although I came back at 4 pm my last day and it had not been cleaned yet. I told the maid who was still cleaning a room down the hall, to forget it as I was tired. The hot tub worked pretty well but there were grains of sand or something in the water. On the whole, if all you do is sleep - stay here and drive or cab everywhere. If you want to spend time in your room, the hot tub or the neighborhood - don't.

Stayed here despite a couple of reviews that said the neighborhood wasn’t nice and I have to say it was NOT bad at all. We (myself, husband & 2 sons) walked back from AT & T park at 10:00 and felt really safe. Room was clean and we really enjoyed the décor. Parking lot and area around the hotel felt safe and the front desk guy was super friendly. There are many restaurants close by, really enjoyed our quite stay. The only thing I wasn’t so happy with was the pillows. Other than that it was a great place to stay and a great price for a family of 4 on a budget. We will be back for sure. Thank you.

I didn't expect too much...just a place to stay for the evening. I wound up in the "Robin Williams" room! What a pleasant surprise to see how retro-neo and classy the room was designed. The bed, the wall, the old fashion typewriter with a 1944 fashion magazine on the desk! Wow! It was clean and comfortable as well! My only regret?... I only stayed one night! Believe me, anytime I need to go to San Francisco I will stay at the Best Western Carriage Inn!

We used the hotel as a base for week of walking the city and visiting friends and family. The location was perfect for us, convenient to Muni and just-fine local eats and coffee. There were some maintenance problems: the clockradio in the room was broken, replaced by an alarm without radio, and the treadmill in the exercise room across the street was also damaged. But the room was very clean and comfortable, staff very nice and responsive. We've stayed here before and will again.

Quite a walk from the convention center through some seedy areas.

Very helpful and accommodating personnel - quickly resolved heating problem Hotel is well furnished and comfortable Internet is free - however slow to nonexistent once someone else uses the internet - which is the case 95% of the time - there is a computer in the lobby, but only one.. I'd say if you don't need internet - this is a great hotel.

Clean, convenient, and comfortable. Bad area of town at night. You must go to Custom Burger across the street -- excellent burgers and fries!

Location is not great (not the nicest neighbourhood), but the hotel itself is quite nice. Booked a room with a king size bed; got a room with two doubles, but didn't bother me too much since I was alone. There was a tree in front of the window so it was quite dark. Nice decoration. Large room and bathroom.

Hotel was in the SOMA district only blocks off Market Street on 7th. If you know San Francisco then you know what to expect along Market and Mission and the surrounding neighborhoods in terms of homeless and drug users who hang out there. Never a problem for us. SOMA itself has been undergoing many changes and renovations into a residential community of upscale urban types. There are some beautiful condos and apartments now where once there were empty office buildings or warehouses. The hotel was clean, very well maintained except for the hot tub which was full of sand for some reason. The place is a bit pricey considering there is another regular Best Western just across the street for $50/less per night.

This is not a classical hotel from the point of view of the lobby (which is smaller than a room) but offers almost everything in good quality. The complimentary breakfast is coffee/tea and muffins (different every day). The neighbourhood is just south of market street (with almost everything that one would like to do being north of it) and safe but some bums were around. The walls were not the thickest I have experienced but not as bad as I expected from other reviews here. The staff at the front desk was constantly changing and all but one were very friendly.

The hotel is sufficient for those on a budget who just require a clean, comfortable room. The location, while fairly close to the city centre, does not appear to be the safest after dark- although we did not have any trouble walking to our hotel late at night I would not have felt comfortable doing so if I was alone. That said, the front desk clerk was very knowledgeable about how to get around the city and very helpful in providing tourist information. As far as I am aware, most city tours provide free pickup from the hotel which is a bonus. All in all I would recommend it if you're in the city for a short stay.
