Chancellor Hotel on Union Square - سان فرانسيسكو

We were greeted warmly and all the staff were helpful and obliging. The room was comfortable and convenient. We liked being reasonably near Lampini Park, a place of tranquility after the hustle and bustle of the city. We would stay here again if we find ourselves in Bangkok in the future!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Chancellor Hotel. It provided a nostalgic flair with modern comforts. Our favourite things about our experience: 1. It was super close to the Powell BART station which made it easy to get around (The Mission District is super hip and fun). 2. It was directly on the street car line which made it super easy to get to Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz. 3. It was close to all of the major shopping including Macy's, HM and our personal favourite: All Saints :) 4. Geary and Post are loaded with awesome restaurants. We especially loved Honey Honey for delicious brunch. 5. Free WiFi. Always amazing and very helpful when wanting to do a quick search. 6. THE BEST PART: The Chancellor offers cookies, cucumber water, candy in the room and…wait for it…you can choose the type of pillow you want! This was such a nice perk and made us feel right at home. 7. The only downfall was that the room had no Air Con, but a ceiling fan did the trick. We highly recommend you stay here on your next visit to San Fran :)

Just spent 4 nights at the Chancellor Hotel - really enjoyed it thoroughly. Room was clean, comfortable, well appointed and although a little dated - still very charming. The location is superb for all that San Francisco has to offer - We would stay at the Chancellor again - great job ! Close to everything like all the buses, cable cars, shops. Ferry Building is a short F train away from bliss of salads, coffee, soups and Alcatraz tour ... missing it already

Staff were courteous. Rooms very clean. There was no noise disturbance though rarely we could hear the residents in the next room through the walls. All the plus points mentioned n the reviews were true. Would come back here for sure.

Excellent location, very clean rooms, nice restaurant, free cookies and apples every day; the only drawback was the front desk service was a little dodgey. But overall it was a great stay!

I loved the hotel. Great location, you can walk to everything. I took the BART in from the airport and never had to worry about transportation. Only a ten minute walk from the station to the hotel. Great staff and the room was better then expected. My only concern would be staying here during the warmer months since there was no AC. The windows opened and there was a ceiling fan. I would definately stay here again in the cooler months.

I stayed one night at the Chancellor Hotel on Union Square and found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. I have been to San Francisco many times before and knew what to expect in terms of room size. Yes, the room was small, but that is to be expected with most older building in this city. The location, however, really can't be beat. If you are planning a short stay or weekend trip, this is a great place to stay.

I stay at the Chancellor whenever I get to SF (if it's available). It truly is Union Square's best kept secret--right on the cable car line, close to buses which take you to Chinatown and North Beach, within steps of the finest shopping SF has to offer, and within walking distance of amazing restaurants and theaters. The personnel there have been there for years--they remember you and welcome you by name. There is complimentary coffee, tea, water, cookies and apples 24/7. The rooms are a tad small--but typical for hotel rooms of classic hotels in SF. I love this hotel!

We just finished a 5 night stay a the Chancellor Hotel. The room was great, location just opposite Union Square was fantastic. Cable car runs up and down powell street frequently, and you catch a bus almost anywhere within 2 minutes from the hotel. From airport catch the BART, as the Powell street station is a short walk from hotel. Overall the Chancellor Hotel for a city hotel is perfect. Rooms are relatively quiet, smallish but a great walk in robe which is good for your suitcases. We would stay again if in Sanfrancisco . WELL DONE CHANCELLOR HOTEL

I tried several hotels in this area, but the Chancellor was by far the best and best value. I cannot rste the restaurant, but the rooms are clean and nice, a but small maybe, but that's ok, it's a really historical building, and the service is perfect. I will be back!

Great location. Safe. Transportation easy with MUNI pass can get anywhere. Hotel clean and well maintained, and friendly.

The only complaint was the cold room – but that's a problem with overall city temperature, and most of the hotels don't have central heating. There was a small heater though, so this could be fixed somehow.

Great Location. In the heart of Union Square. Easy Access to transportation. Great Staff; Very knowledgeable of restaurants/bars in surrounding area. Only negative-we were on the second floor and early morning street noise was heard in our room.

I'm a frequent traveler to San Francisco and every time I visit for work or leisure, I always stay here! The staff is helpful and the rooms and hotel are always clean and quiet! Members of the staff have worked at this hotel for decades, which helps explain why they are all professional and really care about the quality of your stay. It is a couple buildings down from Union Square and close to the trolley car stops. Prefect location!

Really nice hotel in the centre of San Francisco. Hotel price came with car parking which was located less than a few hundred yards away. Quiet room with a lovely deep bath which came in handy after all the walking that I tend to do. Only 2 lifts but never really that busy. Very close to the best of SF, Cable car stops outside and all the best stores in SF are literally just around the corner from Macy's, Louis Vuitton and all the other quality shops on union square. We used taxi's a lot as they were so easy to grab as they went past. Would stay again when I next go to SF.

We stayed at the Chancellor while on vacation this past week...Best words to describe it: Quaint, clean, real SF feel. We loved staying here, great price and perfect location.

The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful. There was complimentary tea and coffee always available. We liked being near Union Square and it was convenient for transport and walking to places of interest, cinema etc Would recommend as a comfortable, friendly, well situated hotel that was reasonable priced for its location.

The Chancellor Hotel was on of the best hotels I've ever stayed. It was better than expected. When I'm ready to book a hotel, I read the reviews and so forth. I'm glad I stayed at the Chancellor. Excellent location at Union Square.

Small hotel..intimate...two terrific women at front desk..mever a wait for service. They knew my name after 24 hrs. Union Sq is half a block away, very visible from the hotel. Rooms immaculate. great views. We visit a son in San Francisco and we'll ALWAYS stay at the Chancellor in our frequent visits.

-Check-in & out was the easiest ever - Hotel has charm - Cute little rubber ducky in the bathroom: nice touch - Decent toiletries - Building must be old; some minor eyesores as far as moldings and things like that. Nothing major. - NO complaints whatsoever as far as service. Quite the contrary. - Small room, but really cozy. Bag caddy in the closet. - Can't beat having a place to park the car at all times (i chose the rate that included parking). - AWESOME location half a block from union square.

It is very close to the Union Square, heart of SF. Building was very old but very clean. I guess interior was newly renovated. People in the hotel was very kind. One bad thing was breakfast...but you have many option for breakfast around.

Very good location, a street across the Union Square. I emailed to the hotel asking for place my luggage for a few days before check-in since I had schedule to go to Yosemite with light luggage. I received quick response from them. Room is good although it is a little bit small. There are complimentary water/tea/coffee at the lobby.

staff was nice we arrived early so we went to the hotel to see if they would hold our bags but before we could ask they told us the room was ready this was at 12 three hours before check-in. free cookies coffee and apples in lobby was a nice touch. room was clean i liked the decor nice view of cable car and union square from the fire escape outside our window. pillows were very comfortable and they gave the option of ordering about 6 other pillows for free like real down or the audio pillow. i will be staying here again

This hotel was right off of Union Square, walking distance to all of the downtown shopping, dinning and attractions. It was a nice, eclectic little spot. Our room was very clean, the staff friendly. Great alternative to staying in one of the high priced mega chain hotels.

Great people on staff! Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. Had great communication with Kevin on packages arriving before I checked in so there were zero mess-ups. You need a larger bar area because the hotel is a nice place to relax before and after each day. Nice and cozy. Only complaint I and the others in my party mentioned was the height of the shower heads. Get some of the elevated extensions in there so us tall people don't need to hunch over to shower. A super stay. I'll be back.

We were very, very pleased with our stay at the Chancellor! Would recommend this to anyone planning to visit SF. The hotel was very cozy, clean and great service. The location was right in Union Square so it was very convenient for walking everywhere. Even the cablecar turnaround is very close. For anyone wanting to stay in the city this is a great choice!

Been to San Francisco several times and wish I had discovered this hotel before , it's great a wonderful location , charming character and great staff . Rooms are lovely it beats more pricey hotels I have stated in the city hands down . Definitely be back

Location was great, hotel was clean, staff was incredibly nice. Beds were tiny, but we had twin beds so that might not be an issue for couples.

The Chancellor is a small but well-appointed hotel in a prime location near Union Square. You are welcomed with cookies and apples upon your arrival. The rooms are small but very comfortable. The staff is courteous and very helpful. Its location is one of the best...you can walk to everything.

I read the reviews on this place before coming and thought the small size was no big deal (I've stayed in NYC a few times and it's also notorious for small rooms). Also, I'm the type of person who often stays in Motel 6 to save a buck. But, it's a really small room! We had double occupancy. Our room had 2 twin beds about 2 ft apart. If you have bed by window, you are either squished on one side b/c the other bed is so close or squished on window side b/c there's a chair and table too close. The other bed is almost against the room wall so no space. They wasted a ton of space on a walk-in closet. You could fit another twin bed in there - the closet was so big. My friend and I bumped into each other many times. The bed was also very uncomfortable. I think Motel 6 has a better mattress. Location is really good - right in Union Square and a trolley comes by regularly. Also very close to Chinatown. For location, great but this is a one night hotel at best.

Perfect location for our short stay. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Short walks to shopping, BART, restaurants and cabs. Love to stand out front and watch the daily activity plus the cable cars.

Like many hotels in downtown/Union Square area of San Francisco, the Chancellor has very small, dark rooms with some older fixtures. They are perfectly comfortable, though, with good beds. I recall the bathroom being slightly rundown, but acceptable. The lobby staff were very welcoming and the lobby has a fun, bustling environment. The location can't be beat--it's close to the Powell BART station, Union Square, and all the shops.

I stayed at this hotel at the recommendation of a colleague. I enjoy hotels with character, but the rooms I were put in had extremely small bathrooms (with very limited counter space. The first room I was placed in had a fire door that opened into my door, making the entryway not large enough and the second room (since I asked to be moved) had open windows onto a fire escape. Besides that, the location was great and the staff were very willing to help. I would recommend the hotel solely on that, but I wouldn't stay there again.

We’ve stayed at the Chancellor at least 10 times in the last 5 years. It’s a great place and much nicer than the other 3 star hotels in Union Square. We’ve always been satisfied both with the service and condition of the hotel, however this time we stayed in Room 304. It was an inside room with a window that opened to a concrete wall 10 feet away. We felt like we were living in a tunnel. Avoid the inside rooms, and lower floors can be a little noisy. Other than that, great family owned place.

This is a friendly small hotel with excellent service just off Union Square. It is not as updated or chic as some of its newly renovated, much costlier neighbors but it is very clean and attractive and extremely well located. It was our third stay and we will be back...highly recommended.
