Serrano Hotel, a Kimpton Hotel - سان فرانسيسكو

The hotel sits on the corner of Post & O'Farrell so you definitely get the "downtown SF" feel (including the questionable looking characters on the sidewalks of O'Farrell, but then Post is "nice.") I was greeted by a friendly Valet, which was a little pricey, but I would not have wanted to park at one of several lots near by for less. (Besides the Valet allows you to go in & out.) When we went to dinner the Valet hailed the taxi & even told my boyfriend our restaurant was only a few blocks (but he didn't want me to have to walk up the hill in my stilettos). The lobby was beautiful inside, a bit of a "historic" feel, good restaurants & night life nearby, there was a restaurant/bar connected to the lobby too. Our "Deluxe King" room was supposed to come with a complimentary wine reception that was not offered at check-in, though we arrived at 8:00pm, so maybe it was too late? I was not impressed about that, but otherwise the customer service was very friendly and accommodating at check-in & check-out. We brought a bottle of wine & there was a wine opener in the room (even available for purchase) along with other pricey minibar items, similar to Vegas. The room was very clean, upscale feel & cozy. The bathroom was small, but there were two small shelves near the sink where I was able to lay out my things. Room came with iPod docking player & hotel offered complimentary items if you forgot anything. Overall we were pleased and would recommend it!

If you have to suffer through Union Square, this is one of the better places to do it. Older building but nicely kept, in the classy Kimpton style. Across from the dramatically more expensive Hilton, and far enough away from Geary so you don't have to put up with Hotel Frank's labor dispute. Internet works great.

It was so great to come back from touring the city to a hosted wine reception! After a long day of walking around this was such a nice treat. The service was great here as well. Ginger was great about pointing out some local places to eat, and giving us a coupon for a free appetizer. The only downside was the Tenderloin was a few blocks away but Ginger was great about pointing this area out so it was easy to avoid. Great hotel, great service, comfy rooms, I'd definitely come here again when visiting SF!

great location to downtown and a short walking distance to Warfield theatre. Would definitely stay again, although wouldn't pay the $42 for valet, when we could have parked in the nearby garage for $28. Plus the valet broke our cup holder. overall good hotel, clean, friendly, with great wine reception!!!!

Great value for the price! The room was very clean and the service was friendly, professional and very helpful. Location was close to the BART, for airport transportation and also for downtown shopping. Very great hotel, intricately beautiful lobby in detail. I would stay here again!

Service was great and staff members are very friendly -- which goes a long way for me. I picked this hotel because of its unique character which I definitely got. The only discomfort that we (travelling with hubby and toddler) experienced was the bathroom. It was SMALL and had no counter space. No big deal for our one night stay, but we were so glad to have moved to the traditional "chain" type hotel where we had the comfortable space. [The hotel switch was just due to plans falling thru and not Serrano.]

We enjoyed our stay in SF. The Curran and Geary theaters were less than a block away and we were able to purchase rush seats for a discounted price 2 hours before the performances. We use the public transit which was about 4 - 5 blocks from the hotel. Shopping in Union Square was about a 10 min walk from the hotel.

The Serrano Hotel is ideally located for shopping, dining and access to the great public transportation in San Francisco. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The room, although small, was more than adequate and clean. The Happy Hour in the lobby is a lovely touch and fun to chat with other guests. Overall, a very pleasant experience. Looking forward to my stay next year!

Staff was very friendly and helpful. they provided free dog treats for my puppy. the room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Awesome staff. I wil be staying here again the next time im in the city. Great location in heart of Union square near cable car stop.

This hotel was really fun! They had great entertainment in the room and in the gym. The wine reception was great and so was the location of the hotel. The bed was also really comfortable.

We visit San Francisco every 2 months for medical appointments. We stay lots of places, This one is in my top 5. Easy location, easy to find. Great service and nice staff. Wine reception and coffee service in lobby were excellent. It took a while to get our car in the morning, so they creditted me a night. Nice room with lots of extras.

Walking distance of Union Square, very convenient for visit the city for shopping or tourism. Hotel Service is fantastic and has a very nice and popular bar.

The service is good, the breakfast is little bit overpriced and they added 20% gratitude automatically. Pretty close to Union square and China Town, but first couple blocks are not very friendly.

Am falling out of love for this hotel, despite staying here many times and being a Kimpton member. Cons this visit: Two sheet soy Kleenex left in the box? Who wants to all down stairs for more Kleenex at 11 pm? Bed a bit lumpy. Internet signal intermittent, causing LARGE frustrations when trying to get work and emails out. Pros this visit: Staff always cordial and welcoming. Stephan the bellman always pleasant and accommodating. Great food and sensational burger in the adjacent dining room, Jaspers. Free NY Times and SF Chronicle in the lobby early in the morning. Great location. Good parking next door.

I stay at a lot of hotels. This place is excellent. The service could not have been better .. So friendly. Room quality excellent. Fantastic old world luxurious hotel lobby area. These people obviously know what they are doing. Lovely wine reception at night too .. But stick to the red .. The white is too sweet.

The lobby was classy, but not stuffy. The elevators are tiny and slow, but the room was spacious and nice. The queen size bed was more comfortable than any hotel I can remember staying in. The bathroom was bigger than I expected and my girlfriend loved the Aveda toiletries. The hotel staff was very accommodating and provided me with a razor at no charge. Parking was a bit pricey, but it is directly next to the hotel and the rates were similar at other garages. The hotel is near some nice areas, but also close to some sketchy areas so make sure you know where you are going. The wine reception was a touch and perfect before a dinner.

Really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Great location (only a short walk from the Civic Center as well as Nob Hill), beautiful lobby, very nice and comfortable room with an excellently stocked minibar. (The only amenity that was lacking was a coffeemaker.) Fast and reliable room service with good food as well, including healthy menu options for both breakfast and dinner. The staff was unfailing courteous and helpful. Very impressed, would definitely recommend if you can get a good rate.

This hotel is great! Its centrally located. Close to the BART at Powell, close to the cable cars and union square. The fitness center although small had state of the art machinery that allow you to watch your own personal TV. There were lots of local restaurants near by and the hotel. The restaurant in the hotel was good as well. I would recommend this place and stay here again!

This is a great hotel. Wonderful service, quality throughout. And the free wine service in the early evening brings out the guests to mingle with each other. Very highly recommend.

The hotel is located on a corner street and if you blink you might miss the front entrance altogether. You can either valet your car or self park on the lot next to it. The lobby has an old world charm and the elevators are pretty fast for such an old building. The rooms were a bit small and dated. I understand that this is a older hotel but the toilet was so close to the wall even I had trouble maneuvering in there and I'm only 5'1. We had a bit of an issue getting our car valet at 11 o'clock at night. We had to leave the car and go to the front desk for service. The surrounding neighborhood at night is less to be desired. Luckily we only had to spend one night there.

My mom and I stayed at the Serrano for her 70th birthday. We couldn't have been happier with our accommodations. When the staff found out it was my mother's b'day, they upgraded our hotel room and sent a bottle of wine and a couple of fabulous desserts to our room, gratis. They also all signed a card to her. It made a wonderful experience all that much more special. The hotel is well-located near Union Square and BART stations, though it is in the Tenderloin, meaning there are a few dubious characters wandering around. But this is San Francisco, folks -- if you can't handle a few dubious characters, don't come here.

We came for a weekend to see family and sightsee. The hotel is very convenient to transportation, restaurants and shopping. We very much enjoyed the morning coffee and evening wine receptions. Our room was clean and quiet, so we felt very comfortable and slept well. Although the location was great for getting around, it might not suit people who are not familiar with the tenderloin.

We'll be back. . .this was such a pleasant surprise. From the unique lobby to the stylish rooms with comfy beds and cool robes--there were many features we appreciated. The coffee served in the morning was some of the best I've had! Thanks for a great stay--we'll be back.

The staff made our stay even better. Knew us by name the moment we arrived! Very close to Union Square and the Powell Street cable cars. Great coffee in the morning and a very nice room with lots of space.

Kimpton I love you but the Serrano is a little nutty. It's more Tenderloin than Union Square and you should have knocked down some walls to expand the rooms. I'm sure you would still have enough to be profitable. Thanks to all the staff, you guys rock!

I have nothing but positive comments for this hotel. First off, you cannot beat the location. We were able to walk everywhere, take public transportation, cable car, all within walking distance. And the one cab ride we took was less than $7. The wine reception alone is worth it, especially after a full day of sight-seeing and you've come home to rest before dinner. They served a well know winery wine in both red and white and the lobby is just lovely with plenty of room to enjoy the wine. King room was confortable, good selection of snacks and beverages in mini bar with reasonable prices, great ammenities in the bathroom. We did get a kick out of the leopard skin print bathrobes, however, still trying to figure that one out. The staff was super freindly and informative. We were always greeted with a friendly hello, or "have a great day", etc as we entered and left the hotel. I would definately stay here again. I've stayed at otehr boutique hotels in the area and I would say this is much nicer than the ones I have stayed at before. I would definately recommend it to friends.
