beautiful hotel, incredible room! the location was fantastic, everything is right there. the staff were super friendly. i will definitely go back there!

Would go back every time I need to stay in Norfolk!

I enjoyed the stay. The staff was very polite and catered to my needs. Just has too many steps.

Very accommodating. Love the character of a historic hotel.

The hotel could use some needed maintenance. Two examples are: First, water from shower was barely warm, but hot from sink. Secondly, the curtains didn't come close to keeping out light..The rods were too short and the curtains were very worn and needed to be replaced. With the exception of those two major items, I would have been satisfied with my stay. The hotel is in a great location.

I wish that there were more hotels like this available in America. Centrally located, comfortable, clean, and no frills. The building itself is older and the rooms do show some of their age, but in a way that does more to add character than detract from comfort. If you want a posh, modern, and sleek hotel in downtown Norfolk, you should look at one of the other options. If you want a nice hotel that is more than sufficient for a short stay and won't empty the wallet, you can't go wrong with the Tazewell. I'll certainly use it again if I find myself back in Norfolk.

My stay at this hotel was extremely enjoyable and I would definitely stay there again . I originally booked a room with 2 double beds for myself and my mom, but when I checked in they gave us a king bed. Since the price was the same I didn't bother to switch rooms. I requested and received a fridge and microwave in the room at no extra charge. The building itself is old but our bathroom was recently renovated and quite large. My mother is extremely picky about hotels, especially bed cleanliness and was very impressed with the accomodations. We both agreed that the bed was easily one of the most comfortable hotel beds we had ever slept on. Guests had to pay $15/day for parking but that seemed reasonable given that we were in downtown Norfolk.

Dirty linens, creaky elevator and loud bars outside should steer people away from this place. Wireless was free which was a plus though. I would not stay here again.

The room was nice and clean. No problems.

The stay was overall pleasant. I especially like the location of the hotel, which is very close to the hospital where I had an interview the next day. If you are arriving on the weekend, there are plenty of street parking around hotel which are free on weekends. I love the historic look and feel of the hotel, and pleasantly surprised by how large the room was. If you have trouble sleeping with noise, the A/C and heater noise is fairly loud and turns on and off very frequently. Sadly no breakfast is offered, so do plan ahead for that. On the whole, I was very glad to have picked this hotel for my stay in Norfolk.

Hotel is convenient, well kept, but shows some wear.

Special rate ended up not so special. Thought ok so no breakfast we can go get that but then we either had to pay 15 a day for parking or park on the street if you can find a space. Lucky for us we were there on Saturday night and street parking was free on Sunday otherwise we would have to move the car or put money in meter by 6 am. Bathroom needed more lighting and a hook or two, no where to put anything down. Sink counter very small. Beds were comfortable, but room was cold and no way to adjust. Knobs taken of unit.

I'm afraid it's just plain tired out. Carpets are stained, the bathroom is worn out, the windows don't quite close, the heat is noisy . . . It's time for a big renovation at the Tazewell. The people at the front desk and the maintenance man were wonderful and helpful, and the location is excellent. But the hotel itself is getting pretty worn down. Norfolk would do well to help get it fixed, as the bones of this place are good. The potential is there to turn it into a gem. Please, bring it back to where it should be!!

A great location Walking distance to all the local restaurants and bars. The hotel was very old and took you back to the colonial days. But for the room it was a little dated for the price. The floors creaked when you walked over them and the curtains didn't fit the width of the window. And the heater made some noises throughout the night. The staff was very nice and courteous and will probably stay there again sometime

○This hotel itself seems old, but well maintained, I guess. Good access to shopping center, restaurants, and other sightseeing spots. Cheap price. There are different type of rooms, mine was large enough. Hotel staffs were friendly.×Stair lift for wheel chair equipped, but hard access for strollers.

The hotel is historic, so it feels like it needs a little rehab but otherwise it is very nice. The bed was great and the room was clean. The staff was very helpful.

Great location, but older rooms and lots of street noise in the morning.

I'd recommend the Tazewell to anyone looking for a decent priced room with a great downtown location--close to good restaurants and shopping. The MacArthur Center Mall is a block away and the batteship Wisconsin and Nauticus (naval and aquatic museum) are only a few blocks walk. The staff is very helpful and kind from the front desk to the maids. The hotel is old, needs some updating, but the beds are comfortable and the rooms clean-esp. the bathroom. Skip the hotel's "bagged" continental breakfast and go to the Granby Bistro just down the street from the hotel. Yum! The hotel's restaurant Snapper's is good too and reasonably priced---love their fish tacos!

We had a suite, and it was really nice, clean, and comfortable. I was surprised it how spacious it was considering that it's an older hotel. The location is terrific and the front desk service was great. My only problem was the lack of room service and limited breakfast options, which was a bagged breakfast.

It was fun staying in a hotel where we could walk to everything, and the surrounding area was open even late at night. Downside is that it is an older hotel and the rooms are not large enough for the furniture. I would have given up the chest of drawers and the microwave and fridge to have room for another chair or to just walk around the room. Not arranged well,

Nice place at a reasonable price. Two bars attached, great food and $3/drinks at happy hour ! Area has nice places to eat.

It was horrible, The lobby smelled like mold, the elevator is like a death trap, continential breakfast was a joke in a bag, they swipe your card for accidentials, but there rooms are accidents, you better hope you don"t hurt yourself entering. The drawers were missing from the dresser. The only thing I half way liked, was the space in the bathroom. I had to wipe the room down with sanitizer before I could try to get comfortable. Never again will I ever stay there. Lesson learned.

This is an old building, so it has a lot of character. I believe most everyone can translate that to cracking paint on ceiling corners, uneven sloping floors in hallways, and that dingy smell of a hotel that used to live in the age of no-such-thing as "non-smoking." Although the cleanliness and general upkeep of the place is left wanting, the overall atmosphere was robust and quaint at the same time. The little Norfolk night life that exist happens to be right off the strip in which the hotel sits. There was everything from a deli to sushi bar to pharmacy in a few block radius. Above all, the staff at the lobby desk, as well as the housekeeping staff were some of the most polite, helpful and eager-to-help group of people I have ever ( this includes 4 star hotels ) witnessed in the hotel industry. Lobby folks impressed me, but then again perhaps I came on a good weekend.

First I'ld like to say The Tazewell was nothing like the bad reviews I read before staying. There was no smells, no low water pressure,and no out dated decor. The service was above and beyond. The decor was that of a historic hotel should be. The lobby was quite and very comfortable to just chat or read a paper! The room itself was very roomy with 12' ceilings. The bathroom was very updated with granite sink-top and new shower enclosure. Yes..the water-pressure was very strong. Oh and as far as parking they do offer you a spot next door parking garage for a small fee. We will be staying there again the next time we visit Norfolk,VA

This is a great hotel for the nightly rate. Clean, updated and has character. Staff was very friendly and the location was convenient. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel, like most historic hotels, had some quirks and tattered edges where old-time elegance meets modern needs, but it was clean and the staff was attentive. We had a minor issue at check in and with a towel in our room and they upgraded us to a suite. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and is an easy walk to food, shopping, the arts and sporting venues. If you enjoy historic buildings this is a must stay destination.

Pleasant but a little dated. It could use a little renovation.

This is a great place to stay before heading to the airport..Walking distance to the nice HUGE shopping mall, and the movie theater..Great restaurants within walking distance also..The hotel is a fun "old world" feeling place. I love the old wooden stairs..Very clean and well kept!

It's an old hotel, which has been kept up nicely. The staff is friendly, and the room was cool. There is a $15/day parking fee, but it's convenient to downtown. It's walking distance from The Norva and a great restaurant called The Jewish Mother.

We found the location and the amenities inside our room to be pleasant and adequate, but this hotel has clearly seen better days and is in need of a major renovation. It looks very run down and smells mildewy.

First, there was paying 15 dollars to park overnight in the parking garage next door, which incidentally has no pedestrian access since the grocery store below it closed, thus requiring to walk up the drive-in area, disregarding the several large signs indicating pedestrian traffic was prohibited. It does however, have pedestrian access to get out of the garage. Second was that the cover of the AC wall-unit was half-falling off, and it didn't seem like a good idea to try to change it's settings in that condition. Third, and most important, is that the tub faucet would turn on to hot and cold water, but no matter which way I twisted and turned the knob, would not turn on the shower itself. The faded pictogram seemed to indicate others had the same problem (thus requiring a pictogram in the shower). I saved half the cost of the larger hotels down the street by staying there, but I was extremely disappointed by my stay there. Oh yeah, and sometimes the somewhat scary 1920's elevators require you to press the "down" button to call them to go "up". On the positive, the staff were very friendly, the bed was very comfortable, and offered to try to resolve the shower issue when I was checking out, but at that point I just wanted to leave.

We stayed there 2 years ago, and compared to our first stay there, it is showing quite a bit of wear. The staff went our of their way to make our stay pleasant. We love the location, however due to the economy I guess, the place wasn't hopping like it was a couple of years ago.

was very convenient to anything you wanted to do, shopping, conference, eating, music. I was very impressed considering the age of the hotel.

Right in the middle of everything -- great prices, good service.
