We like Holiday Inn Express Hotels...as usual, our stay was comfortable and quiet...the staff especially helpful with a personal need...we would definitely stay again!

Great location, comfy beds and good breakfast. Very clean and modern. Will stay again.

Good quality hotel but it was difficult sleeping because there were no heavy curtains to actually cover the windows. Light comes in from outside!

Unless you know what you're looking for, the hotel isn't easy to spot on the road which I like in the sense that it's not super flashy. It's also within walking distance to the BART to go to San Fran and there are so many great places to eat near by or you can even walk to Berkeley University. Or it's a short drive from the highway.

Staff really takes care of me on my weekly visits. Its convenient convenient convenient

Very satisfied with all aspects of the stay. However there is construction going on next door, was woken at 7 am by hammering that was literally 15 feet from our heads. The hotel seemed pretty full, so it's possible they could not have situated us elsewhere. Did not contact the front desk as I was already up and moving rooms would not have helped, I just went out for the day. The construction noise is not something they control, but travelers should be aware it is happening and maybe call to ask if it's still ongoing. Stay was around 2/15/2013

The hotel is very nice and clean. It feels safe. The breakfast was awesome!

Holiday Inn service and amenities were totally as expected - clean, comfortable room, with good facilities ( fridge and microwave), and helpful service on the front desk. The location is a little way out of downtown Berkeley, but is near to BART, nad can walk to the lakeside.

Similar to most Holiday Inn Expresses we have stayed in. The overall cleaniness of the rooms could have been better and the front desk staff were not very personable. The location was great considering we were visiting UCal Berkeley.

Stayed here for three nights while in Oakland for business. Didn't have an opportunity to check out the surrounding neighborhood, but didn't find the area at all toubling, certainly far better than options within Oakland proper. Have had questionable expeinces in Oakland previously. Service at hotel was as expected, rooms were clean, and parking was ample, safe, as well as free. Construction on the lot to the west may limit future views, but noise was not an issue during our stay.

Good location with lots of restaurants within walking distance. Perfect location for UC Berkeley visits and the free breakfast is just icing on the cake. Would definitely stay here again!

Better than other choices in price range. 10 minute walk to BART. Late, after sunset walk slightly edgy thru neighborhood.

Hotel was very clean, good breakfast . I would stay here again but I would ask for a room away from lobby area.

it was great place to stop, clean and a nice size room. the breakfast was great, much better than i expected. the neighborhood was very busy but the hotel sits back and there is plenty of free parking

Nice hotel, convenient location a littel overpriced. We checked about 1 am in the morning, our first impression was, very cooperative Front desk service, even after midnight. Since we checked in verry late, we had to sleep longer on our first day, the cleaning team didn't show up after 12:30 pm that day. the second day and third day they just cleaned the bathroom and didn't even changed the bedsheat. After all we decided to stay five more days in the hotel, but they gave us higher price and we had to move to different rooms, which mad us to leave the hotel and found a better hotel for about the same price.

Bathroom needs a fan. TV remote was not user friendly. Location of this hotel is very convenient.

The complimentary breakfast is good. The location is not bad - close to UC Berkeley and a bunch of resturants around. The hotel is a little bit overpriced.

Great experience. The cleanest hotel I have been in some time. The staff was great. Light and airy. Breakfast had something for everyone. Good value for your $.

I have stayed in a number of hotels throughout the city of Berkeley and found this Holiday Express to be much too expensive for what it is. Security and breakfast are second to none, but a double occupancy room is much too expensive compared to other neighborhood hotels.

The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Free breakfast too.

Good location in Berkeley, convenient to I80. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast buffet, with cereal, bananas, yogurt, bagels, croissants. Some of the hot food, like the bacon, sausage and egg thing were not so good, but I was surprised they even offered them. I did not try the pancakes but they are probably OK. There are some restaurants within walking distance. Nice parking lot. Overall, it's a good value.

The hotel was clean, comfortable. The staff was helpful.

I took 8 college students to a competition at UC Berkeley, and we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. I don't know Berkeley well, so I picked the hotel based mostly on price and location. I ended up being very pleased. It was very clean and in great shape (I have no idea when it was built, but it looks brand new). As we were driving down University Avenue, I saw several other comparable hotels that looked pretty run down, so I was pleased when we got to the Holiday Inn. When I travel with students, free parking, free breakfast, and free wifi are all absolutely necessary (otherwise the whining is unbearable). There is ample parking and a surprisingly good free breakfast. (The food is mass produced / industrial, but it's ample, it's free, and there's a wide variety of items--not just Danishes and OJ.) One minor complaint: I thought the wifi was quite slow; I was streaming a movie from Netflix, and it paused several times for a couple of minutes. (Maybe that was Netflix, but I haven't had that problem elsewhere.) If you're hardy, you could walk to UC Berkeley from the hotel (and save yourself a bunch of money paying to park near the university). Otherwise, it's a 5-minute drive. There are also a few decent (not outstanding) restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. All in all, if my students go to this competition again next year, I'd probably stay at the Holiday Inn again.
