Beautiful castle, staff was pleasant and the food was fantastic

Absolutely Fantastic.Very unique place.

the staff is amazing, very friendly and helpful. and for the price, you get breakfast, afternoon tea, a champagne reception every evening, and a substantial discount on dinner (still a bit expensive but some of the best food i have had). there isn't a lot to do in the area without a car, but it is a really pretty area if you are up for walking. the decor is a little dated and worn (the carpet and curtains in some areas are a bit threadbare) and the beds are old, but it is still beautiful. a great place to relax for a few days.

We wanted to stay in a castle in Ireland and picked the perfect place to do it! Amazing service and wonderful stay. Had a fabulous time and will definitely be back!

Someone was smoking in the room below ours. We smelled the smoke the entire night; the smell was on our sheets. Some of the other guest were shouting and laughing, it woke us up. The food was good. The hotel service we received was good.

Enjoyed our stay! Great room, excellent view, comfortable bed, fireplace, and clean bathroom! Enjoyed dinner at the hotel. Would stay there again!

This was just an overnight break, but boy, with a difference. Friendliness, complimentary Coffee & Scones on arrival, comfort, great service, great staff, hands on Owner, excellent food for our meal, they even sang Happy Birthday to me after with a lovely meringue nest c/w sparklers. Now what more could a body ask for. Well yes, of course not to forget the talking Parrot in the Lobby. Also Very Friendly :-))) What a Fab place this is to Stay. We Will Be BACK. Many Thanks to you all in Abbeyglen.

though I have to agree with other Trip Advisor posters both that it is hard to imagine how it gets a 4 star rating, that the decorator gets very low grades, and everything could use a spruce up. Our room was very comfortable - including the beds and shower pressure - and relaxing by the peat fire in our sitting room was HEAVENLY. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home, the evening champagne gathering on two of our three evenings in the otherwise dreary bar was very convivial, and the poached salmon I had as a main one eve was I think the best I have ever had. The breakfasts were excellent too. The location - off the main drag of the town but within an easy walk to the charming village.

The hotel owner and staff was extremely friendly. The interior of the hotel is not 4star standard to our opinion and a little worn out. Overall we had a pleasant stay.

We were offered dessert and tea/coffee, but when leaving we were charged.not very clear on charges. Maybe could be clearer, but otherwise excellent.

Lovely castle setting hotel-Staff was very friendly and there to please -Fantastic breakfast and nice dinner in the hotel-Sky Road leaves right from Hotel entrance and is a must see if you like coastal ocean views and clean cool breezes-staff makes you feel like family

Tremedous service. Brian, "the Struggling Hotelier" works very hard to make your stay a memorable one. Dinning room very good and excellent service. Evenings in the bar with singing sisters was fantastic. Would stay again.

The staff was excellent. Our room was very nice. This is a low key and very relaxing hotel. It was great to sit by the fireplace on a damp rainy day! Good breakfast.

We loved our stay at Abbeyglen Castle, staff was very pleasant and went out of there way to make you feel comfortable. Rooms were large and very comfortable, grounds were lovely. Stayed on a Tuesday night, we were invited for champagne around 530, and then went for supper, everything was delicious. In spite of some reviews, I found dining not as dressy as some people expressed, which was nice if you are travelling. I would definitely go back to this lovely hotel, but if you have time stay two nights.

Wonderful weekend at Abbeyglen Castle in the heart of Clifden, Friendly and professional service in charming surroundings. Weather was sunny which helped. Music in bar was excellent many thanks to Brian and Roger .

We were more than pleased with our all-too-brief overnight stay at the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel and wished with all our might we could have stayed longer. We were met with warm and gracious hospitality and made to feel as if we were the most special people on earth. I will tell everyone that and hope to go back again. Lovely accommodations, delicious food, inviting indoors and out, great views (and Irish coffee!) and the best all-around staff one could wish.

I was very much looking forward to my stay at Abbeyglen during a dream trip to Ireland. The receptionist was not very friendly upon our arrival, which was out of the ordinary in Ireland. The information book in the room had a page about room service and stated it was served until 11PM. We tried to order something around 8:30. I was told the chef would need to be consulted. When they called back we practicaly had to beg to get them to send up something. They very quickly sent up two trays of breads and desserts, not exactly what we were looking for and not the sandwiches and soup on the room service menu in the info book. I was appalled when I checked out that we were charged 33 Euros. The shower in the room was terrible, barely a trickle came out and the toilet ran for about 10 minutes after flushing. The hotel info states there are acres of grounds to explore, we did not find them. There was a nice garden, but it took about 3 minutes to see it. It was a nice experience but not worth what we paid.

A truly wonderful experience. Lovely, friendly management and staff that are so welcoming. I didnt want to go home and cannot wait to get back there. Really very special.

While it was a bit of a sturuggle finding it as with everything in Ireland it was worth it. The setting was wonderful as were the service and facilities. The only place on our trip we would go back to and spend a few days

Beautiful large room and large bathroom. We were located at the end of the hall in a corner room and the views of the hillside were great. The fireplace was very cozy. Bed was a little hard. We enjoyed talking with Freda the bartender. Easy walk to downtown Clifden where we enjoyed traditional Irish music. Front desk staff was nice but didn't seem to know much about the tourist attractions. We would definetly stay here again.

Great location , breakfast good but pity they used tinned fruit in the morning. Good bar facilities and game room. Checking out very confused - nearly charged again for an American couple with the same surname -rescued by female member of staff at reception after I read the details at the top of bill ( already prepaid!). A short walk in to the town where there are numerous eating places to suit all types.

The Abbeyglen had a lot of old world charm and a great lobby African Grey parrot named Gilbert! We had difficulty figuring out how to work the gas fireplace in our room and it is one of the few hotels I've been in that has old doors with skeleton key locks (which we also had trouble working). The staff was very friendly and helpful. The owner was charming, the food very good, the location lovely. I would say, though, that this hotel is more for the older crowd.

Abbeyglen has all the basic right - beautiful hotel in great surroundings, only a short walk into Clifden, and so much to see and do in the general area. But its the little extras that make the Abbeyglen stand out. Each day free afternoon tea and scones were served in the hotel. On the Saturday night, there was a free champagne reception in the bar. While we were enjoying a drink, the hotel owner was wandering around taking photos. When we went to dinner that night, there was a photo of myself and the girlfriend printed and placed on the table for us. These small touches are not necessary, but each of them gives the impression that you are a valued customer and makes the hotel that bit more special than most. An excellent hotel, highly recommended!

We were very happy with the Abbyglen and even though we only stayed one night it was very relaxing and very comfortable. We felt a genuine care for the guests from the staff at the same time they wre professional and discrete.

This property has been well refurbished from its past as a large abandoned estate. Maintained nicely, but still with an air of the old country house. The rooms we enjoyed looked out over the immediate grounds and small golf facility, with the far view of old central Clifden. The atmosphere is comfortable with a toned-down dignity we enjoyed. Plan evening dinners in the hotel, which are good with very attentive service. In all, a nice refuge from travels in more crowded venues.

Excellent room with old world charm. Bathroom large and elegant. Restaurant a high standard. Overall, we were impressed with the hotel and would recommend it.

Nur der angrenzende Golfplatz und die zwei Hubschrauberlandeplätze zeugen noch von dem Glanz vergangener Zeiten. Im Inneren dagegen ist dieser im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes von einer dicken Staubschicht überzogen. So war unserer Zimmer alles andere als sauber: staubige Lampenschirme, hinter den Nachttischen wurde wohl schon lange nicht mehr sauber gemacht und in der Badewanne lagen noch die Fußnägel von vorherigen Gästen. Das Personal ist zwar bemüht, die Gäste bei Laune zu halten, allerdings war der Service vor allem im Restaurant meist langsam und unaufmerksam. Das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis halte ich für sehr schlecht, auch im Restaurant entsprechen die sehr gehobenen Preise keinesfalls der Qualität des Menüs. Um das Gesamtbild unseres Aufenthaltes abzurunden tauchten dann beim CheckOut noch zwei Posten auf der Rechnung auf, die nachweislich falsch waren. Anstatt einer höflichen Entschuldigung mussten wir uns auf eine Diskussion einlassen. Mein Eindruck war, dass hier ganz gezielt versucht wurde, noch ein paar Euros mehr rauszuholen.

Tres bon hotel. Des notre accueil une personne qui parle français nous a conseillé une petite promenade a faire autour de l'hotel. Puis nous avons été convié à un apéritif offert par la maison (avec petit four et coupe de champagne) pendant lequel le maître d'hotel est venu nous parler de l'histoire de la ville et des environs. Restaurant très bon sans non plus aller dans la grande cuisine (le soda bread home made est tres tres bon). Service impécable et sans chichi. Bref, un personnel très accueillant ce qui est assez rare dans ce genre d'hotel qui est parfois très neutre. Les chambre sont impécables, spacieuse avec le cachet de l'ancien (même la TV est un peu ancienne ;) ). A noter que l'hotel est assez éloigné du centre de la ville de Clifden, mais sur la "sky road" qui est la route offrant des vues superbe sur la ville.

We stayed one night but our room was really big with a chimney, couch, big table and a nice view. We wanted to stay in a luxury hotel and we go one.

Wir haben vier Tage unseres heurigen Irlandurlaubes im Abbeyglen Castle Hotel - gebucht über Hotels.com - verbracht und können das Hotel nur bestens weiterempfehlen! Das Hotel liegt sehr ruhig abseits vom Ortszentrum (ca. 10 Minuten Fußweg) am Beginn der Sky Road an einem zum Hotel gehörigen großen Park, der als Pitch and Put 9-Loch Golfkurs angelegt worden ist (der – soweit wir das beobachten konnten – allerdings nicht sehr intensiv genutzt wurde). Das Hotel ist leicht zu finden, die Abfahrt von der Sky Road ist gut beschildert, es gibt einen ausreichend großen Parkplatz. Von außen wirkt das Hotel nicht unfreundlich aber etwas eigenartig – eine Reihe von Verzierungen wurden an dem Gebäude angebracht, die den Eindruck erwecken sollen, dass es sich um eine ehemalige Burg handelt, was insgesamt unserer Meinung nach aber nicht sehr gelungen ist. Der Empfang war freundlich, kompetent und rasch. Durch das offene Feuer im Kamin fühlt man sich sofort heimisch. Wenn man Glück hat, ist auch Gilbert gut aufgelegt und spricht ein paar Worte (wer Gilbert ist, findet man bei einem Besuch am besten selbst heraus ;-) Unser Zimmer war sehr groß. Ein Wohnzimmer und ein gleich großes Schlafzimmer, mit einer Tür getrennt, beide mit Blick auf den großen Park. Neben dem Schlafzimmer das Badezimmer mit Badewanne und WC und baulich etwas abgeteilt einem Waschbecken. Einziger kleiner Wermutstropfen: Der Wasserzulauf zum WC war sehr langsam und trotz geschlossener Türe zum Schlafzimmer sehr laut zu hören – nach der zweiten Nacht habe ich das dann selbst behoben. Am Anreisetag gab es am Abend in der Bar einen Willkommensabend, bei dem einer der beiden Hausherren sogar selbst Klavier spielte und sang und dann Roger, the barman, sehr kompetent und unterhaltsam die wichtigsten Ausflugsmöglichkeiten der näheren Umgebung erläuterte. Man erhält (sogar mehrmals) eine kleine Karte der Umgebung mit Kurzbeschreibung der lokalen Highlights. Weiters erhält man jeden Tag die Speisekarte (es gibt à la car

Hôtel château à l'ambiance surannée: boiseries, cheminées... on pourrait se croire dans le décor d'un roman d'Agatha Christie! Un peu vieillot donc mais avec une excellente ambiance: thé entre 3 et 5PM offert, tout comme le "champagne" à 7pm. Excellent petit déjeuner et un bon accueil. Chambre confortable avec lit à baldaquin et cheminée.

El hotel es una pasada, sobre todo la habitación, provisto de una salón con su propia chimenea, una habitación con una cama de reyes y el baño con bañera de hidromasaje que más se puede pedir? La decoración interior del castillo no es como esparabamos porque es más como un hotel rural, pero en resumidas cuentas es impresionante. En el restaurante se puede cenar por menu o a la carta, platos muy elaborados y nada caro una media de 30€ por comensal.

Ein Landhotel, wie man es sich in England bzw. Irland vorstellt. Schwere Teppiche, dunkles Holz, Kaminfeuer. Und das alles in idyllischer Atmosphäre. Sehr empfehlenswert ist auch das hoteleigene Restaurant mit lokalen Spezialitäten, wie z.B. verschiedenen Lachsvariationen. Für einen romantischen Aufenthalt zu zweit nur zu empfehlen.
